Tom Selleck always has been and will always be the only actor I would care to sit down and talk to face to face. From what I've learned about his background, he sounds as if he's part of my family. I have only seen the trailers for the new show, my reaction is pure Higgins in the attitude he always meant it, "Oh My God". Never quit Tom!

That’s what made the show so great, each episode wasn’t a “reset” like many tv shows are. Past story lines were acknowledged and characters were developed rather than playing the same role each week.

Tom Selleck is such a good actor that you just can't picture anybody else in his roles. He's Magnum, Jessie Stone, and of course any cowboy movie that he's ever done. Need I say more. I think they could have redone Magnum with Tom as an aging PI.
Tom is so awesome! His acting is very believable and that is what marks him as a great actor. The life he has led off the screen makes him a great man. I know he has flaws, but they are small and few. He has done a lot of good, for many people and is a great role model for the younger actors to follow. Yea Tom!!
The original, and only, Magnum was special because it reached into your soul. A lead character who drove a borrowed Ferrari, had money issues and had incredible good looks but was terrible and unpolished with women was such a great touch of humility that made him like the rest of us. The new Magnum is nothing more then a superficial adrenalin rush that nobody will be talking about in 30 years....guaranteed. Magnum PI and Raiders of the Lost Ark got me through teenage depression and probably saved my life. I'm glad we had our very own Magnum PI and when it was done we where done. We ALL moved on together.

I am 45 now and still watch everything he as been in from crappy movies to great ones I have followed Tom's career all my life. So as my mom lol. P. S I refuse to watch the new Magnum
Magnum PI was successful because of its sense of humour and sense of humanity. No competent drama can be complete without these. Shakespeare knew that and it is true today. Please, please, don't remake this. It's just fine as it is.
One of my favorite western lines Quigly referring to a pistol; "I said I didn't much use for them. Never said I didn't know how." Marsden was also one of my favorite Allen Rickman characters.

Even when I watch Blue Bloods he'll do a face or do something that reminds me of Magnum I'll say wow that was so Magnum last year he did the line it's funny the things you remember I about fell off my chair I can't believe you actually said that line...
Interesting how Tom's not alone in disliking the reboot of his show with the way Richard Dean Anderson feels about the new MacGyver, and I'm sure if any of the cast of the real Hawaii Five-O were alive they'd probably be the same way. Tom Selleck defined that role and only he is truly the one who anybody is gonna remember. He just WAS that character in the charm, toughness, goofy sense of humor yet intelligence and sharpness. They don't make men like Selleck or Magnum anymore
He was PERFECT as Magnum PI. As mentioned so many key elements worked well together. Which is more than I can say for the reboot..which looks to be on shaky ground. What other show EVER does a few episodes then disappears for a few weeks and returns. Then isn't around for another few weeks...into March 2020. Even the Hawaii FIVE-O reboot has been consistent. They've been around every week. It's like they have a different team behind the show....better writers. The new Magnum PI reboot--too many aspects work against it. The characters aren't well written. Every one is "combat ready". No one really is showing any vulnerability..which Selleck's Magnum did. He 'd look into the camera and grin. :) Something never done. Worked. :) He was also one of the taller cast members as it should be. I think Selleck is 6'4...looks great in a navy uniform. In the reboot the new Magnum is the shortest guy...never a good move. The hero should be the most outstanding (as is the case in casing for the Man of Steel...bad move there...being shorter than Batman-Afleck)> The original show had well written characters. Johnathan Higgins...bumbling "major domo" of the estate but loyal. Not combat ready. Had his famous one liner "O MY GOD!!" :) The "lads" were characters. :) Oddly the "lads" disappeared I think in the 1st season of the reboot. Also missing were the helicopter fly-bys. Good flying and camera work...rememinecent of Tog Gun I thought. So many first and aspects WORKED in the original. Missing in the reboot. Where does the cast keep getting so well armed in almost every episode?? :) In the original all they had was Magnum and his 1911 (Colt 45) and Johnathan's shotgun. Thats it. Every cast member had their function. Not every one was combat ready or able. Had Agatha Chumley. The lieutenant's character was original too I felt. Didn't h ave to be a tough rugged street cop to play that role. Was a baseball fan. :)
MPI was a fun show and although I don't know him personally, Selleck's a stand up guy as far as I could ever tell. Watch how he keeps his cool while being interviewed by idiots the caliber of Rosey O'Donnell and Barbara Walters.
Of course, Jeff Mackay returned, this time as the weaselly Jim Bonnick, who would remind Magnum P.I. viewers of the equally weaselly Angel Martin on The Rockford Files. Higgins didn't care for Jim and T.C., at one time, deposited him in the drink at the end of one episode!!!
Ironically when the subject of Selleck not getting the Indiana Jones role,Harrison Ford was reportedly had said you're disrespecting Tom on his choice of taking the Magnum P.I.role & defended his decision. To Mr.Ford's credit he was very happy for Tom & his success onward.
I really dug this vid, thank you. And yeah, there is only *one* Magnum. Tom deserves every kudo he gets for the character, because he made Thomas Magnum a real character.
The reason Magnum PI went over, I’m thinking, is because he didn’t have all the answers and he wasn’t so macho. We could identify with his problems. I liked him before my wife did.
It's the same with most iconic shows. David Hasselhoff will always be Michael Knight. Richard Dean Anderson will always be MacGyver. Jean-Michael Vincent will always be Stringfellow Hawk. Mr.T will always be B.A Baraccus. I could go on but you get my point.:P Damn I miss the good "old" tv-shows, they were actually awesome.
There is only one "Magnum P.I.=Tom Selleck".The only movie to make is with the original cast. Tom Selleck is a wonderful actor and has a great sense of humour. Such a gentleman, lots of class.
There’s only one magnum. And the sad part is that a revival of a classic once again is destroyed! Why can’t Hollywood bring back the original magic? Or at least close to it!
I liked him as Lance White on Rockford files. However, Tom Selleck was perfect as Magnum PI, and I wish we had another show like this. Does anyone remember the opening credits that came out of the shape of the Navy Cross ring? I thought it was cool. Also, let me say Higgins, T.C., and Rick were great co-stars? And I believe he stills owes them money and use of the tennis courts!!!
wait..wait..don't say it..didn't Higgins agree to a deal about the guest house and other stuff?the intro with the ring shape wAS just several first episodes..they had different music too.i never watched Magnum at all until 1994 ,I missed the whole series .but when I discovered it on reruns it inspired to to fly to Oahu-and the first place I went was robbins nest and yes I did swim in the tidal pool.
Here in Spain only know 3 things of hawai , japanese atack in 41 inffamy day, hawai 5-0 and Magnum pi jajajajajaja I love the way of Thomas ,no responsability , no compromise, a ferrari , have a good friends and a good home whith higgins and 2 doberman, sun and hawai, and ever have a prety girl .......and is a army man, never have wrong ideas , only sorry for my english,
I totally agree with the title, there is only one Magnum p.i. : Tom Selleck! I just saw a trailer of the new one: it's an insult to Tom Selleck, the co-stars acting with him and all the creators involved in the real Magnum p.i TV series!
Absolutely only ONE Magum! I'm now sick to my stomach reading all the little girls reactions to the new cbs GARBAGE they are calling Magnum PI and the girls reply "Oh the guy just looks so yummy!"....Sickening!
I agree. Magnum is one of the most classic shows, in fact it was more than a tv show. The new movie is tragical. WHY?? Money of course. But the fans of the show are not interested.
Actually, I watched episode 1 (obviously a pilot) and thought, like new Star Trek and Hawaii 5O it was too "fast and furious" and the cast had little chemistry and bad direction relying too much on glorious explosions. Surprisingly I did like only the new Higgins. I watched episode 2 as I recall the original series chemistry didn't really emerge till episode 2-5 in 1980. Episode 2 was OK. More subdued. Only one car crash, not the Ferrari(s....) this time. Better ensemble chemistry, and the writing was Magnum. The car driving scenes with him thinking aloud, the Tom Vs Higgins petty arguments. Cases that become larger than they seemed. Magnum explaining his overall drive to just help people, despite the lack of profit. Still waiting for TC and Rick to really emerge, but the two principals have. If you like the writing of the 80s series, this is close. Hawaii 5O is not even the same thing at all. It may be OK, but that is just a repurposing of the old series name.
The re-boot looks action-adventure driven rather than character-driven. The original Magnum P.I. succeeded, I think, because of the character. I'm not certain explosions and a female Higgins are going to work.
@Terry Callow Or maybe the problem isn't having a woman action lead but changing an iconic character just to have the corny will they\won't they thing and to try to appear politically correct. Though ironically what would've been the much better idea was having the show being centered on Magnum's adult daughter with maybe recurring appearances by Tom and the other three guys. Now that actually would've been progressive and win over fans of the original series instead of alienating them.
Tom Selleck always has been and will always be the only actor I would care to sit down and talk to face to face. From what I've learned about his background, he sounds as if he's part of my family.
The hero should be the most outstanding (as is the case in casing for the Man of Steel...bad move there...being shorter than Batman-Afleck)>
The original show had well written characters.
Thank you Mr selleck, I grew up watching magnum pi and have many fond memories watching your show with my parents. It was a great show! Thank you.
MPI was a fun show and although I don't know him personally, Selleck's a stand up guy as far as I could ever tell. Watch how he keeps his cool while being interviewed by idiots the caliber of Rosey O'Donnell and Barbara Walters.
magnum pi and miami vice was just the best shows of 80s and 90s !!!!! and still is i think...
The clip they show.....with Ivan.....was the best 2 part episode hands down. It had it all. Mac was killed, and Magnum avenges him.
Both men are class acts and excellent actors!
Of course you did, he drove a ferrari, hehe!
I agree. He was kind of a slicker version of Rockford.
@Dalton Jones Your Mom just yelled down "supper's ready"!
C L actually, if it isn’t a Porsche, I wouldn’t turn my head to see it.
@Dalton Jones Did she also serve Aunt Jemima maple syrup?
Glad he went with Magnum PI 👍
If there ever is a Magnum Pi Movie led by Tom obviously, they would do well by paying tribute to John Hillerman and the Higgy-Baby character.
3:00 How was Magnum "the private investigator for the yuppie generation" while being full of Viet Nam and military references?
Yeah, we called them queers back then.
+Marvin Harrison Smith II You don't know what you are saying.
Marvin Harrison Smith II
HAHA! You win the best comment on the internet!
I thought the same thing
@American Patriot
What is snowflakes?
I watched the new one and I do not know.

It's the same with most iconic shows.
David Hasselhoff will always be Michael Knight.
Richard Dean Anderson will always be MacGyver.
Jean-Michael Vincent will always be Stringfellow Hawk.
Mr.T will always be B.A Baraccus.
I could go on but you get my point.:P
Damn I miss the good "old" tv-shows, they were actually awesome.
There is only one "Magnum P.I.=Tom Selleck".The only movie to make is with the original cast. Tom Selleck is a wonderful actor and has a great sense of humour. Such a gentleman, lots of class.
I think it worked out perfectly for Selleck and Ford.
He is still Beautiful
Don't touch " Magnum PI and Miami Vice " ...
Tom Selleck doesn't seem like a big shot actor to me. I seems more like he is the kind of guy I'd want go bowling with.
you have to have old dusseldorf beer if you want him to go bowling
Higgins ,TC Rick Carol all the supporting cast were brilliant .
you ave to watch out for the lads zeus and Apollo ,they are pretty sneaky
there wont ever be a show like that.it was a once in a life time ..just Forever in time
Here in Spain only know 3 things of hawai , japanese atack in 41 inffamy day, hawai 5-0 and Magnum pi jajajajajaja I love the way of Thomas ,no responsability , no compromise, a ferrari , have a good friends and a good home whith higgins and 2 doberman, sun and hawai, and ever have a prety girl .......and is a army man, never have wrong ideas , only sorry for my english,
Ramon Fernandez yeah , he should retire in Javea or Denia jejejej
NAVY! not ARMY
Tom Sellck : one of the most charismatic man in the history of hollywood
Magnum P.I. for ever!!!
There is only one Magnum PI, I feel this new show doesn't do justice to the original. He is the best actor in everything he does.
The funniest episode was when he and Higgins played practical jokes on each other. The best episode overall was when he wasted Ivan!
Tom Selleck was my first little girl crush. My husband has a moustache, and I won't let him ever shave it off!
The sexist and classy....TOM SELLECK. THE BEST
The knid of man Gillette no longer wants as a man!!!
I totally agree with the title, there is only one Magnum p.i. : Tom Selleck! I just saw a trailer of the new one: it's an insult to Tom Selleck, the co-stars acting with him and all the creators involved in the real Magnum p.i TV series!
great show !!
And now Blue Bloods. No stoppin' him. I don't foresee the Magnum re-make lasting. The original is just too good.
i dont know how I got here, but I'm glad I watched it.. Thanks for posting..
"is that you Roy ?"
Quigly Lives!!!#
My favorite show as a young teenager. Good times...
He can not be replaced ever
If they do another "Indiana Jones" film, Tom Selleck should have a role. Hell, he could be a good villain.
THANKS FOR SHARING, ENJOYED YOUR TOUR OF THE MAGNUM PI AND ROBIN'S NEST PROPERTY.
I think I'm gonna grow a mustache right now!!
And? Did you do it? :'D
Why the hell try and "re-boot" perfection???
Absolutely only ONE Magum! I'm now sick to my stomach reading all the little girls reactions to the new cbs GARBAGE they are calling Magnum PI and the girls reply "Oh the guy just looks so yummy!"....Sickening!
I agree. Magnum is one of the most classic shows, in fact it was more than a tv show. The new movie is tragical. WHY?? Money of course. But the fans of the show are not interested.
Stuff the new magnum there's only one and Toms the best
And Higgins
why the hell did they make Higgins a woman???????
FOR SURE! And Tom's better looking- NOW!
It's gonna crash n burn brutal.
I don't understand why they make new series when 100% of the people would be happy to see the old one…
The re-boot looks action-adventure driven rather than character-driven. The original Magnum P.I. succeeded, I think, because of the character. I'm not certain explosions and a female Higgins are going to work.
Female Higgins... Haha ...what a joke. Leftist agenda is killing everything.
@@freyaaldrnari6086 I suppose you don't like women in the services too?
@Terry Callow Or maybe the problem isn't having a woman action lead but changing an iconic character just to have the corny will they\won't they thing and to try to appear politically correct. Though ironically what would've been the much better idea was having the show being centered on Magnum's adult daughter with maybe recurring appearances by Tom and the other three guys. Now that actually would've been progressive and win over fans of the original series instead of alienating them.
