From an earlier era in Hollywood history, we have one about acting greats, Charles Laughton and Alec Guinness. Laughton revealed that he was offered the role of the colonel, in "The Bridge on the River Kwai"; but repeatedly turned it down. Alec Guinness inherited the role and won an Oscar for it. Much later, Laughton was quoted as saying he never could understand the character, so he kept turning down the part. Saying an actor 'turned down' a role doesn't always mean he would have for certain gotten the role if he had wanted it. Rather it often just means they were offered the opportunity to audition along with several other actors, and turned the audition down. I'm pretty certain Burt Reynolds never had a lock on James Bond - he was offered the chance to audition and declined because he didn't think he would get the part since he wasn't British.
Even though the role of Forest Gump has now been immortalised by Tom Hanks, I've always felt that Jim Carrey or Robin Williams would've done it justice as well.

When he was king of the box office , films available at that time was only comedy films but he would get a good semi action film like the Longest yard , Deliverance and my favorite of his , Sharkys Machine .
@@speedracer1945 My god! Hardly anybody discusses, "Sharkey's Machine"! Great film!
@@milescoburn1845 I just watched it two days ago on bluray.
I use to have. BiG Love Crush I n Tom wen I was in high school, so 😍 cute. Sweet Classy man. Haha 😂
Tom Selleck starred in more than three Jesse Stone TV movie series. You can rent them on prime.
The narrator mentions three more Jesse Stone TV movies a bit further in the video. The narration was badly written. Should have just said six movies in one sentence instead of breaking it up into three and three.
Poor Sean. Expected to fly to New Zealand. First class I assume.
For a reversal of rejected parts, MGM rejected W.C. Fields for "The Wizard of Oz", because he wanted too much money for the title role.
Marlon Brando was excellent as the godfather but I wonder if Anthony Quinn would have been a more natural choice in the role ?
I think he would have made a great Luca Brazzi
Even though the role of Forest Gump has now been immortalised by Tom Hanks, I've always felt that Jim Carrey or Robin Williams would've done it justice as well.
Thanks for the input! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Christopher Walken stars in my two most favorite movies: "The Dead Zone" and "Brainstorm," Natalie Wood's last movie because her jealous, egotistical husband decided to kill her and make it look like an accident.
Thank you for sharing! What other types of videos would you like to see?
Supposedly Walken was on the yacht that fateful night.
Read that Cubby Brocoli thought Reynolds was too short.
Loads of actors have claimed to have turned down Bond.
Tom Selleck in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Jesus. Unable to take a role due to prior contract obligations IS NOT THE SAME as "turning down a role".
Not a big role, but Al Pacino's biggest regret was turning down the role of Agent Kujan in The Usual Suspects. He had just finished filming Heat and didn't want to play another cop so soon after.
Great information, thank you for sharing!
Some movies would not have been as good . Had those actors accepted the roles.
Yes I can totally imagine Kurt Russell being Han Solo. Totally wish he had played the character. I was alive when the first original Star Wars films were out and I still think to this day Russell should have been Han.
Snake Plissken!
I can't imagine Jack playing Indiana Jones!
You're right. It wouldn't have worked at all.
I need for you all to do a special on Sidney Poitier
Imagine if Jack Hamill took the role of the Joker in the 1989 Batman movie or that in the 1989 Batman movie Robert Englund takes the role of Harvey Dent and he becomes Two Face?
Would Clint Eastwood have been so successful if Charles Bronson hadn't turned down not one, but all three movies in the 'Dollars'trilogy. Or if John Wayne, Robert Mirchum, William Holden and even Frank Sinatra had accepted the role of Dirty Harry Callahan when it was offered to each of them in turn. Clint was way down the list when it came to choosing actors for what became his most iconic role. But of course nearly every great actor owes their career to a twist of fate when lady luck smiled on them.
Travolta would have flopped as Gump.
Actor Halle Berry was offered & considered for the lead, Speed 1994 🎬 . Berry & her talent mgrs did not think the script was a big project. $$$. Sandra Bullock got the role!
Charleston Heston turned down the omen.
Selleck did not turn down IJ. He was under a binding pilot contract. Lucas and Spielberg could not get him released either. They both tried hard. Ford got the part by default at the last minute because they had waited too long for Selleck thinking his Magnum series would not be picked up.
Sean Connery in Still Game you are having a laugh
it only seems perfect because you haven't seen anyone else.think about a jock like Tom Selleck playing Indiana Jones, and it doesn't sound that crazy.
Burt Reynolds was NOT ever offered Star Wars. Tom Selleck did not turn down anything, he was FORCED to turn it down due to his tv show. Big difference.
Burt Reynolds was never offered the James Bond role. According to Tom Mankiewicz’s autobiography, producer Cubby Broccoli thought. Reynolds was too short and dismissed the idea outright.
Big Jim Langomussi is forgotten today but he was offered role of Mighty Ho Young
At least all of them were successful in their career even turning down mega movies hits.
1:98 .....excuse me, what the HELL did you say??? Tom Sellecks’ most substantive role was the on the wildly popular Magnum PI!! SEVEN seasons in the 80’s. Remember, most households only had THREE TV Networks to choose from, and Magnum PI was kicking ass in his time slot!! You must be a millennial or younger.....
Will Smith was offered thexlead role in the matrix which would Go to Keanu Reeves.
Matt Damon turned down the lead role of Avatar and 10 percent of the profits from Avatar.
That part went to Sam Worthington, who i'll be honest, there were so many times in Avator i couldn't understand what he was saying cause he has a bad accent. Matt Damon would have been much better in the movie.
I disagree. Matt is too puny and not an imposing physical presence.
Sean's alive, the hurricane had ppl believe he died
They all were in their best format in the roles they b aged. Harrison Ford's best role was in Age of Adaline
I heard that John Wayne was considered for Patton.
That would have been interesting.
@@nicoleknight9412 I love John Wayne, but George C. Scott can't be beat in that role!
Didn't hear that. Heard Lee Marvin turned it down.
John Wayne only played John Wayne.
John Wayne was also considered for……’Dirty Harry’. Imagine that!!
WHEN ANYONE I KNOW INCLUDING MYSELF THINKS OF TOM SELEK ?? ITS ALWAYS MAGNUM PI.
I believe that Sean Connery was offered a role in The Matrix
