Got the AB4.7c. Since I did the proper setup I'm loving it. Need to change the strings tho, it comes with .0085 strings, very light tension.

The tech wood fretboard material is similar to the resinator material used on Hagstrom's. It's nice to see on a budget priced guitar.I wish more makers used it. Much more stable. Feels like ebony.

Great review man. I have to of the S by Solar V’s. They both needed the typical set up and intonation. The pickups are very
bass-y in my rig. Much more so than any of my other guitars.
I’m all for keeping pickup if they sound good but these in my V’s will be getting swapped.

@@newmexicosaint thanks dude! Their V models are sick, I'll have to get one eventually. I've noticed the high bass response on mine too, I'll be doing another video soon comparing this one and my Solar with the Solar Duncans

@@mitchavedon subscribed and I’ll be looking for that one. Keep up the great content. I especially like that you talked about not changing the strings. With every gear review I ALWAYS wonder…did they adjust the truss rod, change strings and set action/intonation? Or how was it out of the box and what did it lack out of the box. Again great job

I think that the modern manufacturing process used to make guitars has vastly changed the quality that one can expect from sub-brand and house-brand instruments that are entry level or "budget friendly". The sole differences tend to come by the quality of the hardware, electronic components, and finishes that are incorporated in the build.
In this pricepoint if someone is expecting to get a 4A flame maple cap, or a quarter sawn muli-piece flame maple neck they are delusional. Stainless fretwire is not that expensive of an upgrade as most custom neck builders generally only charge an extra 10 to 15 dollar premium for them over the nickel frets. I truthfully feel that stainless should be standard equipment anymore unless restoring a vintage instrument to its former glory. Charge 259 for the unit and supply it with stainless jumbos.
I work in the guitar retail industry and find that the gap between the premium line and sub-brand models of the same instrument as far as the luthiery is concerned has been all but closed. It is the finishes and the hardware appointments that differentiate the quality and playability. Gloss versus satin or nitro on the necks and bodies, Grover versus generic diecast, Evertune, Wilkinson, or Floyd Rose versus generic. CTS full size versus generic dime size pots, and the pickups SD, DiMarzio, Fishman, EMG versus generic or house wound ceramic magnet low output.
The grade of wood or even the type of wood is not nearly as determinate on the tone as much as the quality of the components that are attached to those woods. Heck Fender used to use poplar and pine to make bodies for American made premium guitars, so a poplar body and a one piece maple neck are not signs of inferiority but rather a means of cutting down the time spent in the manufacturing process and material expense.

It kind of removes some of the versatility when you take away the tone knob. And I also play jazz so it’d be great to have a neck pickup as well. And those two additions would easily take it up another $100 to $150 at least. But still, for learning and playing metal, rock and blues, this would be by far one of the best choices, I think.
