- I had some old xTool D1 10W laser parts left over after converting my original D1 into a Pro Model. Here is what I did with all of the left over parts.

Superb... I have been looking for this as have just purchased the 40W extended version with the RA2 ,,,and have a spare 20W laser...and bars...so this will be first project in the build...

@@BusterBeagle3D are there any basic forums that you would recommend regarding laser use - I am looking at ways to etch glass on this new setup - could use some pointers - aka speed vs. power levels. Also, etching inside the glass vs. outside the glass? Any advise is appreciated!
@@AlsterJW Best place for that kind of thing is the facebook groups dedicated to the specific machines you are interested in. There is a ton of great stuff on there and plenty of settings your get you at least started.

Great idea. I upgraded my 10w d1 pro to a 40w and extension kit. I have almost a whole machine in spare parts. I wonder why it is so hard to get the missing parts to build a second machine.

We could also totally do this without cutting the X axis shorter, right? So we could still do long things like mini baseball bats and such?
You could make the same thing without cutting it. I just wanted it smaller plus I wanted to be able to make the entire thing using the D1 as the tool to cut it so of course it would need to have been smaller then the gantry.

Hello. Yes those settings in the Lightburn file were for the 40W I used on the 5mm plywood. Glad you liked the other upgrade as well!
I'd love to see the creative process; how you went from concept to cutting and everything in between.
I didn't go too far into it because I'm a little different as I am a 3D modeler by trade but not for CAD but for VFX. I use a program called Maya for all of my modeling which is not something the typical person will have. The basic workflow was I used that website I list in the video for the basic box pattern and then output a SVG that I then opened in TinkerCAD to generate geo from it. I then exported that as an .STL into Maya and made all of my changes modeling wise adding holes, doors, etc. I then exported all of the panels as .STL from Maya and imported them back into TinkerCAD to convert them into usable .SVG files. Then I import those into Lightburn for their final setups. Again it's all a little wacky as I'm much better in Maya then I am in something like Fusion360 since I have been modeling for over 20 years in non-CAD programs.
Might be a good reason for me to design something in F360. I've yet to actually design anything 2D other than test cards lol

It came with an xTool material pack I had. It's called laser marking paper. xTool sells it but it's not exactly cheap.

I don't know the dimensions off of the top of my head but if you check out the video description there are files in there with all of the svg files that you can easily get the dimensions from.
What parts are required exactly? I have a 40w upgrade coming and want to know if I'll have enough parts from the original 20w
You need the gantry, control board, laser, and the associated wires you take off of your Pro to add the 40W kit. However do keep in mind that your 20W would still work on you new 40W machine so it may or may not be something you want to alter. Also if you do happen to want to make the enclosure you need to make sure the gantry placement will work for the 20W module. The 20W is larger then the 10W that I was using so you just need to make sure you are giving yourself enough clearance. Also my original D1 didn't have any limit switch wiring on it so you would have to figure that out before cutting the gantry like I did.
@@BusterBeagle3D I don't think I'd go so far as to cutting the gantry. I do realize that its unnecessary space but I'd rather keep it intact. Thanks for your input! I'm going to build one of these but for the full gantry :D
@@addohm Yeah I get that. This was more a build for me and sort of a show and tell more then something I felt like many people would do. If you are thinking of just converting your old gantry to a rotary build you can take a look at the Geeks at Large website. @@BusterBeagle3D only downside is by not cutting the gantry shorter, I can't cut the X dimension in a single piece.
