the adults looking the same but the kids looking different is probably a legal rights issue. The original actors would all have to consent to their likeness being resembled, CC probably thought it would be easier to just make all the kids look different. But for the adults, they could all consent because they're literally reprising their roles for the show. It all checks out.
The adults don’t all look the same as their actors, tho! For example, Tisha Campbell returns as Peaches but the design looks nothing like her. And some of the original kids characters from the 2000s show are actually producers on this version, including TJW who plays Chris.
To be honest, I think the designs were polished before the voices were selected because they probably didn’t know who was gonna reject or reprise and mostly likely legal issues as well.
Fun fact: Tichina Arnold, Rochelle's actress, travels to Brazil constantly back in the day. Because up here, her character performance resonated with so many brazilian families, she is treated like a super star (as she should). Rochelle is basically an Brazilian Mother respectfully adapted in an sitcom, and that's awesome. Love from Brazil!
And there’s an episode where one of the cut scene jokes was Chris switching families with someone. The dude was Latino and he was as the dinner table with them requesting different food and she started sternly speaking to him in Spanish? I forgot. But yeah they referenced her in the show having Latino connections a lot.
So Brazilians have bad mothers? Bc Rochelle was not a great mother at all as the show thinks she intended to be, but she was entertaining. They did made her give credit to Julius in this first episode which was satisfying.
I was surprised by this show. It is actually funny. I just hope it doesn’t fall into the modern adult animation trope and be vulgar, crass and violent for absolutely no reason. The tone it has now is fine.
For me it's as similar as you could expect an animated remake or spinoff to be. The main difference to me is the children (the actors are sooo grown now). And it's actually good, not like that "good times" crime against God.
Everybody Hates Chris is my favorite 2000s sitcom, so I was cautiously optimistic for this new show but I am beyond happy with the results. I actually had a discussion with one of my college homies who wasn't as enthusiastic about the pilot episode as I was, and the consistency of Crhis's character was my primary reason why I enjoyed it. Based on how Chris is written in the original show, this is EXACTLY how he would have handled things, and if this is the kind of energy they got in the writers' room, then this show is in good hands. And yeah, I definitely clocked Mr. Omar's design. Of all the less-accurate adaptations of the characters, Mr. Omar is by far the most jarring. Hell, I'm pretty sure that by the end of the series, Chris and Mr. Omar were the same height. TJW did get tall as hell by the end. Lastly, it's a shame that we don't have a theme song or the classic music cues. If they had finally adapted the original full theme song Tichina Arnold wrote, but at least she still sings the little music stinger!
It's hilarious that Tichina Arnold is the one singing the "Everybody ha-ates Chris" song. It feels like Rochelle called all her friends to drop a diss track on her own son.

Why did I have a feeling you was doing this video I wasn't thinking today tho. Ngl it feels really refreshing to watch an adult show that isn't so crap
Now I can't help but want to watch the show due to how Chris is treated by his family showing the different dynamics that leads to them understanding his situation when he tried to do it himself but realizing his family can help, too.
I think this is a great way to do a reboot/continuation if as the series goes on there aren't too many inconsistencies or continuity issues. Also congrats on breaking 100k views in only a day 👏
Honey debated on this show since reboots of sitcoms really haven't done a lot for me.
This kinda sold me on it.
Also good edit of the theme song at the end. Felt like a proof of concept for bringing the theme song back into the show.
I gotta be honesty, when I first heard of this show I was just like "Ok, cool." But now that you reccomended it, maybe I'll check it out. I always did enjoy the original show, and this seems like a good extension of the og show.
Winner Winner chicken dinner! Good job on that cartoon dude! I hope it does Well! I will be watching it for the sake of Bob burgers vibes!
Ive seen this the other day and I loved it do much. I honestly wasnt expecting them to bring back Everybody Hates Chris Reboot and honestly i love it and I love how it literally feels like the original show butnin animated form. I also love how Tanya is even more vicious then ever before. Also i loved how she said ima slap you into animation. It does throw you off when Chris's voice actor changes once the animation begins but the smooth transition was well... so smooth.
Let me know when there’s an episode where Julius goes on The Price Is Right.
Glad to see you on my algorithm again
see THIS is how you do a good reboot Netflix's Good Times needs to take notes
I Thank Brazilians are the biggest factor for this show coming back
This is how to make a GOOD black show reboot as a cartoon. Good Times on Netflix could take a lesson from this!
Nice video and I can't wait to see how the rest of the episodes are really enjoyed checking out the episode
Dog when Francine goes “black” might be my most favorite running gag in that show😂
BEHIND RICKY SPANISH FFS RICKY DONT KILL ME!!!!!!
This cartoon just makes me want to watch the original
It will always hold a special place in my heart. Lil dude from across the street ✌🏼
I loved watching Everybody Hates Chris as a kid and I kinda forgot there was an animated reboot/continuation.
And I enjoy you talking about this, ngl if you made a video talking about EHC, I’d watch the whole thing.
Idk, when you talk about things, even if it’s something I don’t care much for, I just enjoy it all.
I didn't even know the cartoon was real till ur vid! Finna go watch now!!!❤❤❤
It actually felt like I was watching an episode of everybody hates Chris
Incredible video, please continue to make more
I was so confused when i saw it, and i still am, like damn, how did i not know about this. And they started when the first show ended so thats just great.
RIP Chris dude got eaten alive during the zombie apocalypse
Great Vid. I was disappointed at how easily this show was written off because of both the artstyle and the scene around these kind of revivals, so I'm so glad you genuinely enjoy what they're doing. Hopefully this gets people to click thinking you're bashing on the whole thing just to come out thinking "huh, I should give this a chance"
Oh get this. Apparently Vincent Martella is in this show. But he only does minor roles like background characters. So if they wanted to they could’ve asked him to go Greg but they chose not to.
8:30 got me rolling 😭😭😭
LMFAO WITH THE EDITING AND COMMENTARY!
After all this time, they STILL hate Chris?
They never stopped!
@@ToonrificTariqI would make a reference to diddy saying that they don't stop if he wasn't a piece of shit trafficker and pedophile
I think this is a great way to do a reboot/continuation if as the series goes on there aren't too many inconsistencies or continuity issues. It's always a huge pet peeve when networks reboot a show either messing up the continuity, being a complete shell of it's former self or being a spit in the face to the source material. I hope for good things for this series
I was today years old when I learned one of the hood staples was also a staple in Brazil? Lol. You just got a whole new section of supporters over here 😂
I’ve been just as shocked as you lmfao
Love this show! Started watching in 2019 when I was 13 and loved it since grew up with in during high school glad it’s back. This is the reason I say stupid one liners and repeated shit they would say 😂 maybe not the best jokes in 2020
I've always thought that Chris was abused by his family
Why?
@@johnwerner69 The way the women in the family treat him, especially the mom. Asking Chris to do something that they are perfectly capable of doing is lazy, hypocritical and mean.
@@the1magageneral323 how is that abuse?
@@johnwerner69 Verbal abuses can have mental effects on a person.
@@johnwerner69 It's not. Ignore the BS.
10:15 you don't know HOW this connection blew my fucking mind. back in the day, when vincent would do promotion for the phineas and ferb, there's this faint feeling i had as a kid that was like "he's so familiar, but i just don't know from where?" BROOOOOO
Remakes are always doomed to fail. Because the og was a hit. But honestly I loved this. I was cracking up
1:10 Hey, it's HOTDAMNiROCK!!!
I was decently surprised by it. There were a few really funny jokes in the pilot. Gives me hope for the rest of the season
Spoiler:
In the future Chris becomes a comedian who makes a tv show about his youth
I was so suprised by how much I enjoyed the pilot!!! I wish the animation quality was higher, but besides that, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
Thanks for doing this review! Loved Everybody Hates Chris when I was a kid (never saw the finale but had to look up Rock's life) so appreciate that before I watch it
I saw the first episode on RUclips, on the comedy central channel, I think they couldn't possibly have done it better.
I took 2 bus to school, sometime I used to get stuck coming back home.
