Thank you! Just did the front brakes on my cobalt yesterday with the assistance of your video. It was so simple of a procedure though, that now I feel like an ass for all those previous times i have been paying $100+ for this same service I did in under an hour lol. I will never be paying someone to do the front brakes on this car again, and that makes me happy. Thanks again!
Thank you for this video. It was spot on! I was looking at a $190 bill for the front brake pads to be replaced. Instead, I watched this video, followed the instructions and spent about $20!
Hi, I watched your video 2-3 times got all the tools I needed plus the replacement parts. I helped my friend replace pads and rotors based on your video. Success ! Thank you very much. It only took one hour too. Thank you. Appreciated.
Thanks so much for the video! I was able to change the front brakes on my 2005 Chevy Cobalt with ease, after following your directions. Saved me $175!!!

Dont forget if you want it to be perfectly in the middle or cant do the screw driver method. Autozone loans tools for free that act like a clamp to push the piston back. Super easy. You put a deposit but you get all of it back when yiu return it. Courtesy by cleaning it.
Thanks Mike, just changed the pads and rotors for the 1st time on my cobalt today. Had the car for 40K, wouldn't suprise me if they were the pads from the car when it already had 40K at purchase. About to test them out.
You sure can! Here's a link to them on our website. They're in with the Camaro stuff but do not say Camaro anywhere on them. They look just like the shirts in our videos. Thanks for watching. www.1aauto.com/search?words=t+shirt?VideoReply&RUclips&ATony
Possible correction. My Chilton manual says: 85 ft-lbs for the caliper mounting bracket bolts (front). You said 80 ft-lbs. The caliper guide pin bolts (front and rear) 25ft-lbs not 20 ft-lbs. Thanks for the video.
I completely agree. Many other videos as well say 85ft lbs for caliper bracket mounts and 25ft lbs for guide pin bolts/caliper. 85lbs as well on hub bolts, 35ft lbs for brake banjo bolt, and 155 lbs for axle nut, 100lbs for wheel lugs. I actually did my bolts to 80lbs with my 3.8 ratchet fitting and new bolts snapping off on torque. Also went thru 2 banjo bolts and reverted to the old bolt I sanded lightly on inner surface, wire brushed and reused because it was steel and not aluminum junk. Also I even called dealership with my vin# You are correct!
If it's giving you a hard time and is stuck in place. You could try to hit the backside of it with a sledge hammer to break it free. Always wear safety glasses while doing this.
Just got my pad and rotor kit for my 2006 Saturn Ion from you guys. Other DIY vids or write-ups I've looked at say to put brake grease or anti-seize grease on the back and/or metal ends of the brake pads before putting them in the calipers. I noticed he doesn't do this in the 1aauto brake vids I've watched. Do you not recommend this? Why or why not? Thanks! Your videos are great.

@@1AAuto I notice you have a nicely inexpensive deal on brake pads and rotors. Might just pick this one up: Front and Rear Premium Posi Metallic Disc Brake Pads & Rotor Kit for 2005-2008 Chevy Cobalt 2007-2008 Pontiac G5 www.amazon.com/dp/B07VHRNXMW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qTQEDb8F0RJA9
It sounds like you may be referring to the steering knuckle. I'm not sure of the year make and model of the car that your working on, If you have a Haynes or Chiltons manual it should tell you the exact nut size and what type of a socket you'll need. We carry many different steering components on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Ok video, you should also lubricate all metal to metal surfaces, not the rotor though obviously, a different camera angle would have been nice too. My Cobalt's driver side disc brake is rattling loudly, I'm trying to figure out what's causing it. Have had them apart 3 times now & it actually got louder after the last time. Any suggestions?
+ManikMekanik Make sure that all the bolts are tight and the proper brake pad clips are installed. Then double check that you have the proper fitting parts. Then of course always check that the rattling is not coming from another part of the suspension. Check for worn sway bar links, ball joints and bushings.
My brake pad on the inside of of the rotor was gone and the caliper piston is all the way out . Any ideas how to get it back in. I’ve tried a c clamp but it won’t budge
I bought my cobalt new in 2009 and it now has 167,000 miles and it still has the original brakes. should I go ahead and change the brakes even though it still stops?

If you're c-lever, you can do the job without having to bug your neighbor for a C-clamp. Just don't be a dumbass like me and put your screwdriver between the pad and the rotor. Unless of course you already intend to replace the rotors.

You don't have to, you could add some of the anti-squeek to the backside of the pads to help prevent any squeeking noises.

I'll be doing this tomorrow haha can't wait
It should be about 20 FT LBS. You may want to snug them up with a socket wrench and then torque them down with a torque wrench.
You guys are the best. keep doing what you're doing!

Yes, caliper grease on the end of the boot and also on outside of piston. tips of brake pads, back part of rotor. sides of push pins. smh.
My brake pad on the inside of of the rotor was gone and the caliper piston is all the way out . Any ideas how to get it back in. I’ve tried a c clamp but it won’t budge

Hi guys, hey do u have any video about how to replace a Catalytic converter in a Chevy Cobalt 2005 2.2
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this particular repair. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Well, thanks for the answer
When I squeezed the caliper - piston- some brake - fluid came out of the master cylinder! Why?
my disk is jammed out so I have to give him a "little shake" with a sledge hammer
are all brakes universal, or what type i need for cobalt 2006 LT 4door?

Well done.

Does it make any difference if it is a manual transmission? Do I need to bleed the brakes or anything?
+Em Burke Thank you for your inquiry! There will be no difference depending on the engine being a manual or automatic. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you!
Thanks man
Why do you not need to bleed brakes?
I bet the dislikes is from the people who had to use the jack and jack stands instead of this comfy lift.
If you're c-lever, you can do the job without having to bug your neighbor for a C-clamp. Just don't be a dumbass like me and put your screwdriver between the pad and the rotor. Unless of course you already intend to replace the rotors.
THANKS
I know that feeling!
Specs are off on the bolts for this vehicle!
didn't have to bleed the brakes?
Not if the brake lines are not removed.
hmmmm my 2008 Cobalt SS T/C has Brembo front brakes and this does not apply
Umm, okay? Go find a vid for that. This video was uploaded years ago.
lol looks exactly like my cobalt color n all
