Seeing the giant crater on the continent sort of makes the landmass resemble the general appearance of a fetus, with the crater as its huge unblinking eye, I’m not sure if that was intentional but it’s super cool nonetheless!
the huge crater adds so much mystery to the world. in my head i called it "the eye of the world" and people shunned it, taking a wide berth when traveling by, staying well clear of the ever still waters :D the big, swirling mass of clouds adds mystery too, but knowing what is hidden underneath makes it even cooler. love it :D
The shape language is so readable and clear, I can easily understand how the topography would geographically make sense and the people that would settle there! It's like a Master Class in world building and you didnt even say a word !!😱
Amazing map one small thing I would’ve done differently is putting the desert area. The area you chose is traversed by a multitude of rivers which should make the area more likely to grow trees. On the other hand to the ouest of the map there is an area with very few river going through it that could take the role of a desert instead. (Just a small detail I thought might be cool)
Actually that kind of phenomenon is pretty common. Even if there is an abundance of water sources in the desert, it doesn't mean it'll have soil, or even be fertile. Deserts are more formed by geological processes and then built upon by climate changes and environmental circumstances. For instance, the fact that the desert was placed right behind a mountain range is very realistic, as wind and atmospheric patterns often cause mountains to be the junctions between two distinct geological biomes. And, also, it's still sand. Even if there's water, there's not going to be a ton of flora there.
@@parallax256 Indeed. I might also add that the water isn't necessarily that drinkable. When the west of the U.S. was being surveyed and explored, rivers or water sources that were drinkable were labeled "sweet water". 😅
I loved this fetus-shaped map. I would love to be able to zoom in and get to know every corner, with information on roads, hunting routes, rivers, lakes, towns, villages, fields and everything else... I love fantastic cartography!

The map looks great and I would love to hear the world building. It makes me question the story behind every detail. Is there a reason there is few cites on the coasts, like are there sea monster? Is there a magical reason the desert is a desert with so many rivers? The map makes me want to hear all about this world and sparks my curiosity. Your an amazing artist and I hope you have fun in your creative journey. I already know you will do great.
My question as well, but it does make sense, since cosstal citoes used to need an estuary or some sort of spring water close at hand to be able to flourish as an occasional stop for mercantile ships. Considering the great river that flows parallel to the coastline it would make sense for the mercantile efforts to develop there. The red sea coast of the Arab peninsula was not all that populater either, was it?
@@ReblazeGaming coastal cities are very common, especially in lower fantasy settings due to the ease of transport the waterways gibe ti any city situated close to one. Rivers are the first, and the seaside is second, but cities still need freshwater!
Judging by the size of the delta I suppose this is not a continent but a small island, in which case I don't see how there's such a drastic mountain range that deep, maybe the island sits in between two converging plates idk, but I would think in that case there would be a major fault crossing the island, I think that kind of mountain range should be following the form of the coast and be more close to it mimicking the Andes region in Colombia, Peru or Chile, that way, there could be a tectonic plate that roughly resembles the edge of the continent giving a reasonable explanation for the subduction zone and the creasing of the continents surface. The other thing is the scale, in case this is not meant to feel like an island but more like mainland of a continent I would suggest decreasing detail on rivers and river basins, deltas, etc. Really great content man, discovered your channel yesterday and I am on a binge, love your work.
looking at those lakes in the middle of the mountain ranges makes me think it's the product of two diverging plates that are still in the very early stages of rifting, like the East African Rift Valley and the mountains surrounding it
Man, I've spent so much time learning how to use real terrain data and manipulating it to make height maps and shading maps, using different software... erosion sims. But seeing the way you layered all that detail with just points and shading makes me want to try your process. Definitely giving it a go in my next map, great video!
Like that your rivers form realistic watersheds, with tributaries merging into larger rivers as they move to the ocean. So many fantasy creators get rivers wrong.
Hey, I'm fascinated by the world that you are putting together, having seen all of your videos now, and was wondering what made you go towards a "german" direction. I would assume Grimm's Fairy Tales and european folk lore would be huge inspirations for you, but was wondering if there was more to the story. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. 1. will there be a video mapping out the territory between Ram, Verussian and any other nations you plan on adding 2. Is this map only a continent of the world or is this the whole world overall 3. If you do plan on adding more nations to the world, will you be taking suggestion for the them of that/those nations
Man, this channel is awesome! Seeing all this incredible worldbuilding gave me two ideas. First, I think this world would make an amazing setting for a tabletop role-playing game! I'm not sure what you want to do with this world once it is built, but that would be an incredible direction to go with it and I would 1000% support a crowd-funded and/or traditional launch of such a project. Second, I want to write stories in this world. I want to explore the lives of characters scrounging for a living in the nooks and crannies, to watch the historical figures leave their mark -- good or bad -- on the fate of the world, to observe the awe-inspiring landscapes and cultures, to experience encounters with the new races and creatures. Whatever you do with this world, I'm here for the ride!
