This is unique. Paul and Mondays really made it okay for me n my mates to form band in 1990 - in The same way pistols inspired bands back in 76 We used to do a version of WFL❤
I seriously am so glad these tapes exist. Always wanted to feel as close to Paul as I did Shaun (with all his books and interviews), this is quite the awesome series in his honor!
Excellent as always. The Mondays have been part of my identity for 30 years + and its lovely to hear Paul's story. Beautiful guy, so glad you got him to do this. You're a great interviewer, these are quality and deserve an award.
Thanks for sharing it! We're relying on word of mouth as we don't have a promotions budget for the show so any help spreading the word is much appreciated! xx
Started looking for Paul Ryder music a bit late I no but really liking it thanks for putting them on at the end of the tapes. Looking forward for the next how many there are. ✌️❤️😎
Paul was exceptionally talented. He wasn't like a Jaco or Pino virtuoso type - but what Paul did possess was an amazing ability to create amazing hooks and also he knew when *not* to play and where to leave space for the song. I would describe his sound as Joy Division meets Sly & the Family Stone. Thank you for making this and sharing it. I've been a fan for more than thirty years but knew very little about Paul.
Another great episode and lovely to hear it from an alternative side of Paul, which was rarely heard prior to these Tapes being produced. I’ve always loved the songs Paul mentioned from their first gig, Delightful always been one of my favourites, I still have a pristine vinyl 12” with tracks Delightful, This Feeling and Oasis (another of my fave tunes), along with a 7” vinyl I still have in A1 condition with Freaky Dancin’ (Top Tune) and The Egg, all belting tunes!!
Listening to Paul talk about what music meant to him brings a tear to my eye, his music literally symbolised how I felt at times in my life. These interviews are top notch and I for one appreciate them so much. Rip Paul x
LOVING THIS!!! Can't get enough of it! Angela you area BRILLIANT interviewer and the content and production is outstanding. Lovely, kind Paul - miss him!
I've only just found this channel Angie. Seems like I tuned in just in time. This is the most profound gift, and it's a miracle that Paul did these interviews, and felt them for us. And that you put these interviews together. You seem an extremely kind and lovely person, and it will be a pleasure to walk on this journey with you. I'm from Accrington btw., so not far away.
met Horseman at the Irish centre when the Mondays supported James at the Irish centre in Birmngham in '89 - Shaun and Bez were there to but Paul was the easiest to chat to
Moments like 20:4637:41 and 38:06 are really inspiring for young creatives like myself. Absolutely loving this series, yourself and your team have done a brilliant job of telling Paul's story.
Such a great series and such a shame Paul Past too soon! His bass lines are the back bone of the Mondays. Simple but precise and always on point! He will get his recognition no doubt!
Talking to some mates yesterday at a day in Accrington park and one mentions Happy Mondays playing at The Top Hat in Blackburn. I jumped in and said `you went to that gig`. Two of them had at age 14 or something, both punks and said after 2 songs they knew they were shit and could tell they were wasted and even remembered they had won a battle of the bands and these two were glue sniffers back then. I add they arn`t Mondays fans like me but was good to here them tell the tale.
I'm really enjoying and looking forward to these interviews, thank you for putting them together. I was lucky enough to see Paul play live a few times over the past few years, one of the best gigs I ever heared was the 25th anniversary of Bummed. He was a very cool and groovy bassist. I know what the motown track is was that he ripped the bass rundown off but I noticed that you cut around him naming it so I'll keep it to myself 😉 Cheers.
The Egg wasn't on the Debut, it was probably their best Produced Song it was the B Side to Freaky Dancin & it was great too, but i suppose it wouldn't have fitted in with the rest of Squirrel cos it sounded like it was Recorded in a Garage. I've always loved that lp, they never recorded a bad lp. ✌️
Bobby gillisby -Primal Scream said 10 years ago that the Mondays had the cloths and The roses had the Tunes and Ian brown the look as well ,that shirts nice he's wearing there .
50p to watch Man U still a ripoff to this day what a pair of beautiful people you two are love the love between you regardless of you’re split this whole thing makes me kinda understand why writing music will never die but will keep on evolving probably not to my liking but evolution is key and I will always support that
I remember selling Shaun Ryder’s wife 3 T-shirts for a fiver from my uncle Frank’s stall on Tib Street. The Mondays had just landed some huge gig worth 14 grand.
As a boy I watched many all the police series and films and loved the music without knowing that it was called funk. I always really liked Happy Mondays for the bass, it was that propulsion I related to, like my other favourite bass player Peter Hook. I didn’t like the culture surrounding Happy Mondays and felt alienated from them. I knew there was something there and I loved the music. Does that make sense?
@@jasonjerusalem of course not, you are right I was talking in terms of youth culture and the various scenes as it were. I was into squatting in Hackney in the early 80s and was more involved with Crass and also experimental music Portion Control, Throbbing Gristle, DAF and Einstürzende Neubauten amongst others.
@@glisteningstories He certainly did! I always thought the bass should have been more pronounced as it was in New Order, or my first great love 1970s 80s heavy dub.
This is compulsive viewing, it’s as well delivered, professional and slick as any of the expensively produced TV documentary’s from channel 4 etc
Thank you for sharing, it's beautiful to hear Paul tell his story. RIP Horse

Look forward to these every week :)))

You have such a warm soothing way of opening Paul up to talking, and that's whats making me relaxed too whilst enjoying these podcasts ❤

Caught up with these videos now. What a modest man, and spoke of his past recalling so much. Modest even tho’ he achieved so much.

brilliant interviewer... the best i've ever seen!

Hugely interesting to hear how Paul learned to play the Bass and explains how the Mondays sound is so unique
Living in Swinton all my life it's great hearing all these stories and knowing the places he's talking about.
The Run DMC gag floored me. 😂
🤣
I don't get it. Gaz might as well speak Japanese, I don't understand a single word from him

Which Marietta did he go to, I wonder? Was it mentioned? There are about 20 places called that in the US.
Murietta I think it was, close to Hemet in California
