What a man! Been a Mondays fan since the 80’s. Paul was the driving force behind the band and it’s good to see the truth come out. Great bass player and a true legend. Sorely missed. 👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Great work again Angela!I cannot wait for part 6 as that’s when I discovered the band when they released BUMMED in 1988!the birth of indie dance and my first experience of the love drug ecstasy!😜🤪😉
Another great episode. fantastic stories from amazing guests. some of these stories blow my mind, the whole Hooky meeting was serendipitous, Factory and Happy Mondays were a beautiful match. can't wait till next Sunday.
Thanks again for these. It's made me revisit their first 2 album.. Paul's bass just leaps out at you from the first track. Crazy he thought he was blagging it because he was self taught!! Music can teach you music. It's fair to say he's holds the band together on those first 2 albums. It wouldn't have been possible musically without him. First class bass player and evidently humble to.
So true on impostor syndrome - just do your best work and don't care about people's opinions on it. It's going to be alright as long as you personally believe in it!
Derek ‘Horseman’ is a true legend and was a top bloke! Years ago I worked as a Sound Technician at a rehearsal studio in Manchester,I answered the phone one day to Derek in a bit of a state saying “Can we get in the rooms urgently over next few days cos the stage wherever the Mondays had played the night before had collapsed and the gear had fallen down on top of some of the boys and needed to come in and test all the gear!” What a top man he was and a great driving force and support he was for The Monday’s.
I'm really enjoying these, I hope there are a fair few more to come. It's got me back into the Mondays again as well. 'Bummed' is still my favourite - it just about beats 'Pills 'n' Thrills And Bellyaches,' although it's a close run thing.
Great watching these interviews, brilliant stories. One of my favourite bands ever. Last time seen them live with Paul in the band was at Glasgow Academy 2019, band were great.
@@glisteningstories probably times out if there's not enough activity or summat. In any case, this week's episode was epic as ever. Really fascinating and interspersed with some proper deep and emotive moments, especially Bez's account of learning about Pauls' passing. Lookin forward to next Sunday's episode! :)
Paul is such a cool guy. Any of Shaun's solo material doesn't come near the Mondays. Big Arm is streets ahead as well!! Can't wait to hear the album....only thing is it just makes Paul's passing even harder - he had so much more to give. Quality series, thanks again!
Absolutely loving this series. Nice to see the guy that was always in the background tell his side of it. And the addition of the other people involved is a great bonus. Liked and Subscribed and I hope many more do too. They should.
I love how he says it’s GDA&E, even though it’s EAD&G. It just proves how it makes absolutely no difference when you’ve got your own style and you’re unique. Millions of classically trained musicians will never have what Paul had.
Nice job Angela, you done the man proud.obviously a lot of love/ respect for each other even though it didn’t work out for you . Love the detail( missing you) in opening credits!
The first line is very true. Those women should be on the big stage. Perhaps you could make a follow up some day on their lives. From outside loos to urine showers. :) Ive very much fallen in love with your voice. Looking forward to watching this episode with you.
Lovely episode, i managed to watch these through in full now.. just watched 24 hr party people agiain... Coogan did a belter, not a fan of T.Wilson but films brilliant 😂❤🎉 Big Love ❤🎉People
Angie would've made a great interrogator for the police. A lovely, soft, and seemingly unintrusive approach, yet goes deep inside and pulls out answers. She's very good.
Operation Julie was the millions of tiny lsd tabs being found and that being the main acid supply it ended up being a fiver for 1 tab in 1977 after the bust for a bit 45 £ ish in today's money .But the left overs from them tabs (ones the law didn't get ) must of been very strong.
Yeah another great episode. With shaun getting all the publicity never new that it was Paul's band n finding out that it's was him pushing for the band with the demo's n management great to here. Plus another great track from Paul big arm. Gutted never new ot about it until it's to late. Is there any gig footage or was it just studio stuff If anyone knows please drop us a comment ✌️❤️😎
We have a whole gig that was filmed so we will cut that together to make a live video - plus we're in the process of re-releasing the album and a few bonus tracks that have never been heard before! Thanks Lee - it's good to see you back here xx
@glisteningstories thanks for taking the time to reply to my comments on the Paul Ryder tapes. Looking forward to next release and seeing and hearing the big arm stuff. Thanks again Lee ✌️❤️😎
Oh I’m firmly against NOT knowing the letters of the strings!!! It’s like knowing your # or SS Id . Basic. Atleast know this one simple thing. Everything else here I’m hip to!!!
The microdots from operation Julie were meant to go into Frankley resevoir in northfield birmingham, i lived there, it wouldnt of made any difference to 80% of the population....the Clash also did the song Julies been working for the drug squad!
Paul seemed the most level headed, if that was possible in the Mondays. Sad loss, these interviews are gold. Thanx.
❤
That blows my mind that horse did the sound engineering for the band live .Wonder if he knew the ins and outs a bit from his singing days
Yes Derek (Horseman) knew his way round a music tech setup for sure!@@waynesilverman3048
5 in, it's the best podcasts I've got into. Probably because my era/age/E band! Rip mate!😢

I'm loving this series. Paul was definitely a silent maverick. He had a charisma of shyness yet got what he wanted.

I'm glad he wasn't trained in music. His baselines were tremendous and pretty original. And he intuited that.
