Thanks for the nice words. I'm afraid I get a lot more "teachy" as the series progresses as there is so much info to get across, but I try my best to stay on point throughout.
Everything works fine! I've finished the 101 series last night and wanted to inform "my fellow students" that the tutorial is still working. (Unity 2019.1.9f1 / UMA 2.8.1) Sometiimes 2 year old tutorials are outdated - but not this series of videos! I have tried all the examples and everything still works as it should. Thank you Secret Anorak!
Glad everything worked for you. The UMA team tend to be very careful about backwards compatibility. Although many things have been added to UMA since I started this series, the fundamentals should always work the same way. Thanks for your support :)
Thanks for the update. Was worried when I saw the age of the video. Nothing worse than finding an amazing introduction to something , only to find out its outdated and not working.
I have watched all of the videos in this playlist, and they are totally great. One question I have is what is the purpose of the body sliders in UMA at runtime, if you cannot save them? Is there something I am missing here? I mean, it's fun to change how they look, but I want to be able to save those changes until the next time I use that UMA Character. Any help will be appreciated!
im super stoked to watch all of this, im busy trying to get it working in maya LT atm, havent had much success though but im sure it can be done. im not expert though so i might be doing something wrong haha
Hi Tyramath. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the intro. I'm not too familiar with MAYA but I have managed to get working UMA assets out of it while experimenting. I'll try to make sure that when we get to making content, I cover Max, Maya and Blender.
I'm hoping for some instruction into making uma clothing using blender. Even following the UMA DCS manual & FAQ I still have issues getting the meshes to show up properly.
UMA certainly is. It's a long journey, but well worth it. If you have any questions, dive into the forum and talk to the development team. Enjoy. forum.unity.com/threads/uma-unity-multipurpose-avatar-on-the-asset-store.219175/page-144
Totally excited about your planned series. Joined your patreon. Keep up the good and interesting work ! Saw you also joined the Discord Server for uMMORPG.
Hi Torsten, I'd like to say a big thanks for your support on Patreon. I eventually plan to give practical examples of integrating UMA with many common unity assets, uMMORPG being one of them.
A lot of it still applies, however, the new DCS system makes things so much easier and once you see how it works, you won't go back to the old methods. I'll be taking the old videos down shortly as they don't really show the best way to use UMA, and I think the whole thing breaks down when we start to attach a character controller. That will be the first thing I tackle in this weekends release. :)
I wish there was a tutorial on how to use uma on your own meshes / own modelized character, i make all kind of 3d characters and know how to separate their hairs, clothes, body parts etc in 3ds max, i'll even learn blender to do this, just... i wish there was a tutorial on how to do your very own uma library from your own characters / 3d models... i'm still stuck on this..
Trying to use UMA on a game project, and I've watched through most of your UMA videos but I can't find anything explaining how to actually do the Atlas function. Anytime I try to atlas a character and outfit, it only places one texture over the base mesh and all clothing pieces. Wasn't sure where else to ask for help - so I'm hoping you see this! Thanks!
Hi there, by default UMA builds a single atlas for every character (to reduce draw calls per character). This perhaps isn't what you want if you have lots characters on screen. This can be overridden however. The best place to find help is my discord: discord.gg/KdteVKd The UMA devs are always in there and there are lots of helpful people who should be able to answer any questions you have.
I wonder where the example scene in the locker room (1:33) came from. Freely available demo asset somewhere? I've checked all the comments below and did not find anyone mentioning the room and UI set up.
Absolutely you can. Maybe not by default but UMA is just a very clever way of combining models. have a chat with the community on my discord, someone far cleverer than me will be able to guide you..... discord.gg/KdteVKd
Hi Alessandro. It certainly does, however, not out of the box. Have a chat with some of the real experts on my discord. discord.gg/KdteVKd I'm a bit behind the times these days.
Is it normal for a UMA 2 avatar to take 1gb ram? How do I decrease the atlas size? I need about 50 networked players and that is quite high ram useage lol
@@unaxeptable1550 I'd love to answer in a 3 line post, but what you're asking is quite ambiguous and is the exact reason I recorded a series of videos. Watch through them for all the answers :)
I tried using UMA back in 2012. (Very much a novice then) & I ended up in a different direction.
This video made me wish to revisit it.
Thanks
Great intro to UMA. The combination of sly humor and insight into UMA is a perfect combination. Thank you!

An absolutely fabulous intro into UMA. Very well done, this has me pumped for more and I can't wait :D
What an absolutely amazing product that is put together here! I am astonished that it is free.
Yo I love your style/voice/words with this video bro! You make it so cool! Thanks for this explanation 😁✌️😊
I was just watching this again, as it is pinned to the UMA2 store page. So awesome! :D
Just watch the series with my team, one who is integrating with our inventory, and two that are making content. Thanks. Helped a lot!
Thanks Laura. Lots more to come. 😁
how did i never heard of this before, i am amazed i strugle for so many time to make something like that
UMA really has come a long way.

This is relevant to my needs. Imma signing up to this UMA journey!
uma seems to have updated - maybe an updated video covering how epic it is...
Thanks. Been really looking forward to your UMA tutorials. Looking forward to the next ones....Don
Incredible...Thanks so much
Fantastic Asset! Loving it :)
This is great. Another supporter coming your way in the near future. 8)

im so glad to hear that you will be doing some maya aswell, im a better modeler in maya then max, aswell as max being more expensive.
Are there any updated tutorials? 2021 now and I'm struggling through loads of errors
me too
amazing! why is it not broadly known stuff?
I'm hoping for some instruction into making uma clothing using blender. Even following the UMA DCS manual & FAQ I still have issues getting the meshes to show up properly.
Hi dracon hawke. We're going to create new clothes and eventually races using Blender. Just hold tight. 😁
This is wonderful !!!!

Are your older UMA2 videos in your channel still applicable to the current UMA2 version, or have there been many changes ?

There is,....... Look at my playlists. UMA 201 talks about making new content,...UMA 301 talks about making your own races...... Have fun.
8:18 I thought this was going to be some sort of funny Thriller scene, then quickly realised it was some morbid Koolaid drinking simulator
Haha, I did originally have that particular clip set to music: ruclips.net/video/LGLvuYn2w2Y/видео.html
Really excellent thank you!
Any tutorials or example scenes on how to do the 'getting up from ragdoll' part?

Is there a way to export the created character model to FBX?
There are fbx exporters for unity
can i ask you something, can uma character be edited to make like zombie faces . please reply, i am about to start a project
Uma can works for proyect VR?
Does the texture combining work in HDRP?
I wonder where the example scene in the locker room (1:33) came from. Freely available demo asset somewhere? I've checked all the comments below and did not find anyone mentioning the room and UI set up.
That's one of my own projects. Not publicly available I'm afraid.
so, could i implement this in a game to use it as a character creator? i mean character creation like in any RPG
That's almost exactly what it was originally designed to do. 😁 Keep following the series to find out how.
@@SecretAnorak thank you. i liked your video, you have a good humor too haha. i will leave an abo and perhaps a patronage if your videos help me
hi SecretAnorak 8:10 what is this asset?

Link to the lead pirate UMA characters?
That particular piece is from the game Freeport and is not available to the public.
Hello, can we create low poly characters with that tool? Thank you
Hi there. You can use any model you like with UMA. Just remember, UMA doesn't create the models, it is a set of tools for modifying them.
@@SecretAnorak Thank you very much! Seems it didn't get it ahah but now I do!
where can I download that monster file?
You can download the raw non-UMA version here: www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/48933
how do i scale up an avatar properly?
By default, avatars are set to real human sizes, but you can adjust this with the "Height" value in the DNA.
@@SecretAnorak Thank you for helping me out so quick. How can i access dna?

@@SecretAnorak okay thanks will watch through.
I am no understood , I am froom mexico
Allah is on your Side!!!
this is a free asset on unity!?
now no game has the right to NOT have a character creator this advanced!
