Neat! This is going to be extra useful tutorial when i get to make the wings for my own character! Thank you for creating this! Not going to lie, just by skimming through video it look a little bit intimidating. I'm even more grateful that this exist!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for all the work, wouldn't have been able to figure this out on my own. Anyone else having problems selecting the bone during weight painting (maybe with Blender 4.0x?), try Shift + Crtl + LMB.
Hi Nice tut, it helped me a lot! I notice you haven't tuts about Blenrig in your channel... Is this tool more difficult to learn that Rigify or Auto rig pro? Please, keep sharing more tuts :) !!!
I don't have videos about Blenrig ... yet :) That doesn't mean anything. I just haven't had the time to try Blenrig. Also videos take a long time to make, often I can't make one even if I like something. I am getting a lot of questions and requests about Blenrig so I'll try to make a video soon!
Great tutorials of course. @12.12 in this video, with the Bind to Mesh operation, in Blender 3.6, I get a popup question from ARP -- about whether or not to "remove vertex groups" (the default option). I went with the default option. Is this correct for this tutorial?
Thank you so much! This is a life saving tutorial! Just a quick question to make sure. Would it be possible to transfer this rig and animations to unreal engine 5 afterwards?
I don't think so because I did render animations of the bird when I was working on it. The model is provided for the rigging exercise so it is not something I will be fixing. Check the materials, etc.
Yes, you can do it like in the other tutorial and in fact that is what the Auto-Rig Pro developer recommends. The only difference is the process. The result should be the same. If the result is good it doesn't matter that much how you get there. Do whatever works best for you!
Hey I was curious, I did a custom version of this for a character with a bird skeleton, but did no feathers and gave hands instead, everything else is the bird skeleton, There aren't any unreal animations I could use for this character so I'm going to make my own animations, Would I have any trouble getting this rig and animations into Unreal? Are there steps I should do, to get good results? I noticed there's an export specifically for auto rig to unreal and a human and universal option, would I need to do any of that?
No, that's entering animation territory and the tutorial is long and complex as it is. Flapping is not complex as far as the feather behavior is concerned so you have to watch footage of birds and animate the arm/wing as in the reference.
I was waiting sooo long for this tutorial. Thanks so much. sad thing is that you used AutoRigPro which I dont have and as hobbyist, I wont buy it. I hoped this tutorial would be done using rigify.
I'm having some issues with this bird, when I open they looks fine, but after start working and hide the particle system and start rigging the poly mesh on the head appear some holes, but the mesh are there, but look transparent, I check the normals and looks fine, don't see any fliped faces, I just ignore and try to keep following the video but this model make my Blender 3.4 crash, the others models still working great, the only problem is with this bird. I also take the starting point to check if there something I could do to fix, and the blender crash before start the rigging process.
@@CGDive And your are making a great job, I remove all material attached to the body and create just one with the color painted into the legs, and beak, restart again and now everything is working fine, hope to finish this bird and keep following your awesome tutorials.
Thank you for doing tutorials like this! Barely ANYONE does tutorials for animals or anything that's not a human.
Yep! Just working on a bunch of vids about animals and custom rigs :)
@@CGDive custom rigs with ARP ?
@@Tertion yeah, you can start from an Empty rig and add "Limbs" and build your rigs that way.

Thanks! If you take the time to learn how it works, the wing system is great and easy to work with.
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for all the work, wouldn't have been able to figure this out on my own. Anyone else having problems selecting the bone during weight painting (maybe with Blender 4.0x?), try Shift + Crtl + LMB.
oh my god learning is too borning 😭😭😭😭
This is amazing! Thank you so much! I'm currently working on a gryphon rig, this is very helpful! Can't wait for part 2 :D
Awesome!
Great tutorial
Nice work 🎉
ohhhhh!JUST IN NEED

So how would you rig a wing that isn't made from multiple parts/meshes?
Hey mate super helpful! Is part 2 up on your gumroad?
Yes it is :)
As well as one more unrleased chapter and a few more in the works.
You should try with "BlenRig 6" tutorial.
Thinking about it :)
how about bird that have long neck like goose or ostrich ? can i get away with 1 neck bone or should i subdived the neck bone ?
You should probably subdivide it.
Can u provide this riged model plz plz plz i req you pleaseeeeeeeee even i dont have money to buy ARP🥺🥺🥺
can you do to us a tutoriel of how to character a bird
Thank you so much! This is a life saving tutorial! Just a quick question to make sure. Would it be possible to transfer this rig and animations to unreal engine 5 afterwards?
Probably, although I haven't tested it personally and I am not an expert on the ARP export settings as of now.
@@CGDive thanks. I'll try.
I can't render the bird's legs of the provided model for some reason, did it happen to you too?
I don't think so because I did render animations of the bird when I was working on it. The model is provided for the rigging exercise so it is not something I will be fixing. Check the materials, etc.
can i paint the feather weight by the way you show in the video "Auto-Rig Pro: Wing Rig Tutorial [Blender]"? It's much easier. What's the difference?
Yes, you can do it like in the other tutorial and in fact that is what the Auto-Rig Pro developer recommends. The only difference is the process. The result should be the same. If the result is good it doesn't matter that much how you get there. Do whatever works best for you!

Yeah, you should use the dedicated export options. I haven't tested them extensivly yet so refer to the manual about that.
Do you also include how to have the bird wings flap to fly?
No, that's entering animation territory and the tutorial is long and complex as it is. Flapping is not complex as far as the feather behavior is concerned so you have to watch footage of birds and animate the arm/wing as in the reference.
@@CGDive Okay, thank you very much for the quick reply. Still love all your courses!

I am still planning on a Rigify or Manaul wing rigging tut :)

Sorry to hear that. I am not sure why it happens. I just provided the model as it was and it worked fine for me.

@@BlueSpinach3D hi, im currently working with the model and got the same problem. Cant fix it tho :/
