🎂 Prime Cake Recipe:
The Cake
2 cups plain / all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
115g / 1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup whole milk
3 tsp vanilla extract if making regular cake. (Substitute with Prime Hydration sticks if not.)
The Icing
225g / 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
500g / 1 lb powdered sugar
3 tsp vanilla extract (for original, Prime if not)
2 - 4 tbsp milk

Mat and Santi are AMAZING as a duo. The "Pure uncut Colombian PRIME + Read between the lines" jokes were incredible. Was curious to see how far y'all would push it, and I'm so happy you guys went there and kept it in the final cut.

Tip if you want to make the icing's texture better, try blending the powder stick in a food processor or blender to make it into an actual powder. People make icing sugar from normal granulated sugar this way, so it'll at least help with the texture. Can't promise it'll help with the icing spliting tho. Maybe try making a regular butter cream with just butter, sugar and milk instead of adding egg? BUT THATS JUST A THEORY, A FOOD THEORY! THANKS FOR READING!

What about if they reduced the actual drink down to a syrup and made an Italian meringue style buttercream?

This needs a part 2, now that they know what Prim-e did to the mixture, could they make enough adjustments to make it more like a cake?, I'm also curious if it would be possible to swap out the sugar with honey and how you would get that to work, definitely one of the funniest videos so far

Personally, I suspect the substituted the prime wrong, it should have replaced the salt and part of the sugar, not the vanilla extract

First of all, this is the absolute funnest episode of Food Theory, the atmosphere was impecable and you can tell everyone was having a blast. Second of all, I think the cake would work a lot better if you replaced the salt and probably the sugar altogether with the prime stick, so you limit how much is actually making it into the cake. By making cake batter and then adding the prime, everything falls out of wack. Its like the sawdust cookies, by starting with a cookie bass and adding sawdust, you just have sad, dry mulch. By incorporating it in place of the actual base ingredients, you get a probably workable result.
Steph noticing the "PRIM" at the end and the entire theory team LOSING IT was truly the Prime icing on the cake

I can't explain how much I love MatPat's and Santi's dynamic. Mat is usually the straight man of a duo, but Santi brings out the super silly in Mat in the best way, and Santi is just hilarious, sassy and super knowledgable
I don't know what Mat and Santi were on when filming this episode but they need to take it more often, this is officially my favorite food theory episode

This is going up there as one of my favorites and not for the theory but for the video/filming. You and Santi have really really fun energy, where I feel like sometimes your crew can maybe try a little too hard, with Santi it doesn't feel that way and he really brings the fun outta you kinda like how ash does. This is one of my favorite food theory episodes, everyone seems so happy and even though the main "goal" wasn't met, everyone was having fun and enjoying the time and mistakes they had together while making a project. This really goes to show that sometimes the journey is way more important than the destination! Keep having fun and enjoying working together as a team to make these, please 🙏

I think making a jello cake with thickened prime wouldn't be awful. Would allow you to make a normal cake and then just work on making the prime act like jello
oh it'll be awful. But maybe it won't taste or look bad
I know Dylan Hollis did a few soda-jello salad recipes on his channel, and they were "interesting" to say the least. He did enjoy the jello poke cake he made.
That's a cool idea. I'd like a part two just to see how they might rebalance the cake, but I like the idea of a jello incorporation too
Or use the prime to make a simple syrup and soak the cake with it after the cake is done. No ideas for the frosting though? Make a super concentrated syrup and add to icing?

This is one of my favorite food theories- I was laughing so hard my face hurt! The chaotic energy is something I've missed since Steph took a step back from being in streams and videos. Ita not the same, but around Santi, Mat bring more of that silliness that kind of lessened for a bit. Hope everyone in Team Theorist is having a good holiday season!

So... if adding Prime to a cake recipe disrupted the emulsifying agent, I wonder if the fix for that would be to add more emulsifiers? I'd be down to seeing if this change would fix it to be more like an actual cake, and if it could work with other drink mixes.

Hey Mat, there exists a cake called Tres Leches which is veeeeery moist. At times almost drinking the cake. This is referencing what you said before about this being the first hydration cake. I dont think it's the same hydration, but I wanted to inform you.

I feel for Santi here. When I was in elementary school I tried to help my gramma make a grape flavored cake for my birthday (because I liked purple). I thought it would be a good idea to mix the icing with grape Koolaid mix to give it that lavender color. The cake itself turned out alright but the icing was WAY too tart, to the point where I don't think we ever finished eating it.

We are already getting into war crimes territory.
Some suggestions to make the cake mabye edible. Dont add any extra salt to the cake batter bc its in prime, and switch out all purpose flour to cake flour it might help a bit with the denseness. Finally to fix the grainy frosting mabye try a different type of frosting like a meringue frosting in hopes the prime powder mixes better.
And remove sugar
My thoughts were to use a grindstone/morter to break the powder down further.
What if you dissolve the prime into a sort of syrup beforehand? It's not going to help with the emulsion but it'll help with the grainy texture no?

The only thing that can be done with this Prime cake recipe is to lock it in a box, toss the box in the ocean, and throw away the ocean.

I think you can actually do something more edible with this by making a jello poke cake. You make yellow cake, poke wells into it, then pour liquid jello mix into the holes to make it soak into the cake. There has got to be a way to incorporate Prime powder into the jello so you get the flavor without killing the cake.
