I was honestly expecting THAT to be part of their conclusion. To make it fair, make it a single-blind experiment: Sam (or whomever is available) assembles and presents the best/worst burgers, unlabeled, to Mat and Santi. Granted, when they feel the Hardee's hockey puck of a bun they'll KNOW, but the effort should be made anyway.
Tbh I thought they would have categorised each burger topping, like patty, bun, veg, pickled, sauce etc. and then taking the item that reoccurs the most and combining them. Eg. Majority of burgers had steamed bun + majority had ketchup + majority had pickles etc. I also thought they would’ve gotten the best seller burgers rather than the same from everywhere
With another Category of "Synergy": Some burgers have better overall synergy that makes the toppings more than the sum of its parts. But then there can be burgers that could have excellent toppings but 0 synergy
Just curious. For any of the food theory episodes including this one, is it ever considered how the more you eat, the less tasty it would be? Could be a theory on its own. For example: eat the burgers blindly and rank them, next day eat them in reverse order and see if the ranking changes.
You should really take these results and make the ultimate fast food burger. Find the best patty, the best bun, the best toppings and condiments to make the best fast food burger
I can see, as Santi takes over the channel, his inadvertent innuendos becoming a running gag, like matpat's dad jokes. please please please that would be so much fun
Gotta love how there was an argument for In and Out’s fries and your “need” to find your customization, but no similar argument for Wendy’s burger needing you to season it.
They said in the beginning that they didn’t go to in ‘n out. I don’t even know if I want to finish this video because of that. Your comment is confusing because you acted as if they went there.
There's something about MatPat laughing maniacally after taking a bite of something that just cracks me up... Not sure if it's genuinely funny or a nervous laughter...
I really love the editing on this channel. The sound effects when they eat, the explosion when they cheer their foods together, just, the pure whimsy and borderline cursed moments. So different from the other channels and yet I love it so much.
I'm with MatPat on the bag fries from Five Guys, they're the best part! When you're done the fries from the container, then you look in the bag, and there's more!
Now you have to do it again, and this time take the best ingredient from each burger and build the burger of your dreams! This is a recipe for a great episode!
I like how Mat started just laughing randomly. Eating that much fast food will make you go crazy for sure. Knowing the Dragon Ball “fusion” means that you’re old?! 🍔👏😋
I definitely thought you guys were actually just going to choose the best of each ingredient to make the ultimate fast food burger lol I was super confused for a minute.
I think a really cool idea you guys could do would be trying out several kids meals from different restaurants and seeing which one is the healthiest for kids
I remember seeing a Hardees commercial when I was younger that straight up said "We don't do kids meals." as a way to advertise how big their burgers were.
Your comments on culvers are correct. I worked there on fryers and i dabbled with our grill. Everything is hand pressed for burgers and made fresh. Props to yall for realizing that.
I wanna see an episode on what's actually the HAPPIEST happy meal What foods provide the average person with the most dopamine, and can you combine them into a viable meal within the calorie range of a real life happy meal? If so, how does the new meal stack up against the original?
I think it'd be different for everyone, and it wouldn't remain the same. If you have your favourite meal every week, eventually it'll lose a little of its appeal.
@thisplatformsucks Well a fruit affects your brain differently than meat. Maybe the apple slices actually make our brains happier than the salty fries as a side, and who's to say apples are the happiest fruit on average? And perhaps fish or poultry might be better than beef, in which case the McNugget meal could provide more dopamine release, meaning they'd need a main meal that surpasses even NUGGIES. Chocolate releases dopamine, would nuts and dark chocolate make for a dessert just as dopamine producing as a milkshake? I know taste preferences are highly subjective, but just because someone doesn't like asparagus doesn't mean asparagus isn't healthy. Maybe in a similar way, dopamine response to certain foods could be based on what the body wants/needs regardless of taste, like someone switching to salads and feeling happier and healthier or in the way a starving person will get nutrients from stuff like fish eyes I think there's definitely something here worth making an episode about
@@gnarledcox How would you even quantify the dopamine response? Plus if you don't like the taste of something, it doesn't matter whether it's healthy- the positive feeling you get from a taste you like is the dopamine being released. If it tastes bad to you, little to no dopamine response.
Now I want an episode about a kids menu conspiracy of why fast foods sell toys with select kids menu items and then compare each restaurants against each other
There are 3 potential ways that the toys get chosen. 1. The company want to bump sales so they're willing to pay a licencing fee. The toys are attractive to kids so something popular like a Disney movie will have a licencing fee but they will inevitably get bigger sales of kids meals. 2. The property is attractive but are kids really going to go wild for new land before time toys because it's like the 30th anniversary or something? Probably not so they only have to promote the product and they can use the property to bump their sales. 3. The property want to receive easy advertising from a 3rd party so they pay the company to put their toys in kids meals. It's a cheap alternative to have McDonald's slap "bibble bobbles bubbly boo adventure" over their happy meal boxes, on poster on their walls and potentially shown on TV than it would to buy the TV spot yourself. It's not that your product is necessarily bad but it's a new IP from a small studio like Shrek was (Shrek was literally sent out to die and came back a hero) so you might not have the money to invest like Disney do. It's a business deal that benefits both sides either financially or economically at the end of the day. It gets toys in a kid's hand and makes them want to know more especially if your toy can be made into something cool.
THANK YOU FOOD THEORY! I am a picky eater and have been told all my life that I can just "scrape off" whatever when my burger is made wrong, but you guys proved at 18:07 that tastes can linger. You can taste the pickle on Mcd's burger even though they for sure do not brine it in pickle juice. Literally sent this video to my sister for that exact reason
My sister can taste tomatoes even when they've been picked off even when the rest of the family can't. Some things can definitely be taken off with little consequence, but not a lot of things. Especially not sauces. No matter how much you try to wipe the mayo off of a bun (or shredded lettuce *good luck* doing anything about that), it's still in there. Now the bun just tastes like mayo and like paper towel if you tried to dig in hard enough to even get any out of the bun lol
I think it would be interesting to see an episode about food ads directed at children, and what they're implying. If you took the ads of my childhood literally, the food they're advertising is like a drug - ended boredom, solved all your problems, added a few super powers, and possibly caused hallucinations too. Kind of an odd message to send to children.
Love the Culver’s appreciation, honestly it’s my new favorite fast food place because it’s not like everything is covered in grease and it’s actually made fresh
A fun video, even if it wasn't what I expected (I'd assumed you were going to take the best of each category). Regardless, I'm totally down to seeing this revisited. I think chicken sandwiches makes the most sense.
I thought you were going to take the top tasting of each place and make a burger that way. Like a bun from McDonals, the meat from Wendy's, the pickles from Burger King, etc and end up with the ultimate drive through burger. That would have been interesting and make the individual taste testing's actually mean something.
Actually Matt, Five Guys does not give you extra fries. Their website states the nutrition facts of the fries including their serving size, which is the same amount of fries you get in the bag. They use smaller cups to make you think you are getting free fries, when most of the time you are actually getting less.
Ngl I thought that was where they were going with the Frankenburger. What was the point of tasting each element if they were just gonna mash em all together? 😂
When you talked about the five guys fries, I’ve actually heard that it’s calculated in the price of the fries that they dump in the bag. So even though you think you’re getting a ton of free extra fries, they charged you for that amount to begin with
How? Cause at my local five guys a small is like 2 dollars, but they gave me enough for a medium cause i had enough i could fill the small cup twice and still had like 1 or 2 stragglers leftover.
Kind of a meaningless statement, isn't it? Fast food fries are marked up hundreds of percentage from their manufacturing costs anyways. Unless Five Guys fries are actually more expensive
This reminded me of Kevin's Big Mac idea from the office, where he saves an ingredient each day and at the end of the week he has a free bonus burger. I wonder what the optimal order of ingredients would be, like what would be best to be fresh and what would keep.
I would like to personally thank whoever edited this to have the yoshi nom sounds whenever they bite into the burgers. That made me smile. Needed that today lol.
I definitely think they should take this same idea and apply it to the chicken sandwiches. I think it's be fitting since they also did a chicken sandwich video over which fast food place has the best chicken sandwich.
I would have liked to have seen you make a new burger using the best overall ingredient from each category and another burger using the worst. That would probably be interesting for a future video!
Hey Matt! This was one of those videos that Santi actually had showcased an extensive food knowledge. The "Santi suffers" kind of videos are just hilarious, but I love this kind of content.
I would love to see what the best milkshake and French fry combination is. My personal favorite is McDonald's strawberry milkshake with Wendy's fries. I think that McDonald's shake is just watery enough that Wendy's fries are able to absorb a good amount of it . The fries are also perfectly salted and definitely add a salty aftertaste that is great.
I would enjoy seeing this style of video again with cheese burgers. As in burgers with no toppings and just cheese. To see how the cheese changes the equation
Thats pretty much how i used to eat burgers. I hated vegetables, pickles, mayo and mustard. So it would be meat and cheese, plus i would add ketchup or bbq sauce. And bacon if they had it. For health reasons i had to change my diet and actually eat veggies now (still no pickle or mustard tho). I love getting grilled onions and mushrooms at five guys. It makes it so good. With their crispy bacon. Yum.
This reminds me of a video I once saw where they took twelve flavors of cola, taste tested them, and then combined them together to see what would happen. The result was almost similar to what happened with the burgers here. Despite the overwhelming combination of scents from the colas mixed together, it ended up tasting really good.
I agree with Mat here, i don’t like having to customize my food just for it to be good. I like the option but it shouldn’t be the default. It’s not my problem that it’s bad to begin with and I have specifically say what to do with it for it to be good. That’s too much of a hassle i’d rather go elsewhere.
Fun fact about five guys, the employees are trained to overfill the cup in the bag so it feels like you're getting more when really the fries are so inexpensive to make you're almost getting ripped off
As someone who works at hardees I can just say they grabbed our basic cheese burger which of course makes sense for the video but the other burgers are usually better, I don't cook but I can confirm about the cooking style. Also hardees chili dogs are where it's at
I was thinking the same everytime they dissed Hardees, "Like what burger did they get?" That McD's burger was in a box so i know it was up there, but Hardee's didnt even have its potato bun
@@ShadowNerd92 that's the junior cheeseburger which is a typical kids burger small buns cheese pickles ketchup ect. But the famous star would be hsrdees signature cheeseburger

I love all the camera action we’ve been getting lately. I like the typical format but seeing Team Theorist on camera is so fun!
I've never truly appreciated how much of a cryptid Santi is.
Hey mat I think it would be very interesting to try and make the best and worst combinations with the parts you got from the burgers
Big brain🧠
I would enjoy seeing this style of video again with cheese burgers. As in burgers with no toppings and just cheese. To see how the cheese changes the equation
Thats pretty much how i used to eat burgers. I hated vegetables, pickles, mayo and mustard. So it would be meat and cheese, plus i would add ketchup or bbq sauce. And bacon if they had it.
For health reasons i had to change my diet and actually eat veggies now (still no pickle or mustard tho). I love getting grilled onions and mushrooms at five guys. It makes it so good. With their crispy bacon. Yum.
I would love to see this again with all the more special burgers in each fastfood places
So thats why Santi was so implicated in this video... This aged well...
This reminds me of a video I once saw where they took twelve flavors of cola, taste tested them, and then combined them together to see what would happen. The result was almost similar to what happened with the burgers here. Despite the overwhelming combination of scents from the colas mixed together, it ended up tasting really good.
Cartman's Gas
My dad used to do this, his favorite combo was cola and hi-c or orange fanta. Resulted in something less sweet than pure fanta, but still tasty.
Santi and Mat euphemisms will never get old. I feel like Santi would be the best person on Team Theorist to have a drink with
Love MatPat and Santi's interactions in this episode! The amount of times Mat bust out laughing was golden
Yeah their banter is great, I like how when they're together they kinda devolve into 7th grade teenage boys (in the best possible way)
Amen!!
When Matt left Santi on read with the fusion dance, I felt that.
A Random Person: "Why would you do this to yourself?!"
Matpat: "FOR SCIENCE!!"
@PatronaSara-mb9nnspam for onlyfans on a children's channel. That is disgusting
I would love to see a follow up with the best components from each restaurant to make the ultimate fast food burger.
“We can’t be friends” proceeds to take over food theory
Fr lol
With all the rankings I was honestly expecting the creation of the best and worst hybrid burgers.
21:24 The moment we've all been waiting for.
I don't know where you found Santi, but he's an absolute gem.
Your entire team is phenomenal but holy heck, Santi may be my mvp this year.
I love their mushroom and swiss so it should have been that lol
Western bacon cheeseburger for the win
@@weirdperson9406 my location stopped serving the western in June:(
14:17 MatPat is so real for this, In n Out is mid. Just straight up middle, not bad but also not great.
Mat somehow never fails to get condiments in the corner of his lips 😂
I love the yoshi sound effect that played when you took a bite. Can you please make that a food theory constant?
Bro he is leaving this wont be a constant
@@Josiah-fm4pg I know that
I was asking the whole team. Just because MP will be gone doesn't mean food theory will be gone.
The MatPat x Santi bromance continues! Love these two being foodie nerds together ❤️
10:10 matpat gets springlocked
19:24 Oh my gosh, can you imagine having a mushroom allergy and having a reaction to a Sonic burger because it’s not well known that they have mushrooms in it???? And it’s something that you wouldn’t think to check like hey, do you grind up mushrooms in your patty mixture? That SUCKS. Scary tbh 😅 when you don’t know what’s in it…
8:42 gotta agree with Matt, the additional fries in the bottom are one of the absolute best parts of Five Guys.
The accidental innuendos combined with Matt's "remember, this is an all ages show" facial expression are my favorite parts of these videos
Santi my man you are my favorite person on Team Theorist. 5:18 Thank you for the Big Mac sauce recipe. I will be making it at home.❤
20:40 Fuse them together, Super Saiyan style?
When he said the kids might not get the dragon ball reference I felt sad
