- Did you know this was a thing? I don't know why I didn't think about it before, but now that I've ventured down this lane, I may never go back! AND BONUS TIKTOK HACK for boiled eggs (have you see that spoon trick, I tried it, does it work?). Seriously, why has no one told me about this before? If you have an immersion circulator, you simply MUST do your eggs like this!!
185°F for 25 minutes. 5 minute ice bath. Peel like a dream.

That sound you hear when tapping the egg with a spoon is the shell (slightly) cracking. Simple.
I think the yolks are greyish because you dropped them before the water came to temp. Even though it was below 185, it still extended the cooking time. Just guessing, though.
I think that’s a wise assessment!
Happy Birthday Heather!! Hope you had a great one!
Thank you!! :) It was a great day!
The sound of cracked shell. New/ fresh eggs will not separate from shell well. Older eggs, over a week will come out from the shell perfectly.
Yah, after doing this method a couple of times, I realized that is all it's doing. I've stopped. And I still feel as though the Instant Pot method is the best for hard boiling. Perfect every time. Maybe I'll do a comparison video.
I have never cared about the gray on the yolk. I never even noticed it till today lol. I will try it. I have the Pampered Chef Multi Cooker so I will try it in that.
It should turn out fantastic in the Multi Cooker!! :)
You chill boiled eggs in an icebath so that they dont continue to cook
Standing the eggs in cold water until they go cold stops the grey around the yolk.
I put my eggs in ice water every time and still get grey yolks! But, this was the least grey I've gotten in a while.
Your eggs didn't leak because the membrane wasn't broken. Also you should probably delete Tik Tok :P
I agree. LOL
