Kansas was big back in the day and shared the airways with groups like Rush, Styx. Boston. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Queen just to name a few. The late 70s was a great time to be a teen. As far as progressive rock goes the band "Yes" was the leader in that genre.

Steve Walsh was a superior vocalist and I was a super fan of Robby Steinhardt (RIP) on violin. To me, it was a signature sound. I love this kind of progressive rock, and I got to see them in the spring of 1981 at KU in Allen Fieldhouse. It was truly a great concert. Lover Boy opened for them.

Ribby Steinhardt was ridiculously gifted. At age 65, I still imagine myself playing violin to this.

"The guy" who is singing is Steve Walsh...harmonizing with him is Robbie Steinhardt... KILLER band. I saw them in 2010 live just before Steve retired from the band 😒😒🥲 I believe that all the band members went to college together...you'll have to scope that out for yourself. Just tryin' to say that Kansas is one of the best bands ever...

Sure, most bands have their guitars, drums, and keyboards, but this is the band I think of when Rock violin gets mentioned! (Chicago for Rock brass and Jethro Tull for Rock flute!) Great reaction, Man!

Steve Walsh obviously had a great voice, but he was also a good musician playing keyboards and some percussions. Catch some of their Live concert footage and you will see him running around, playing different instruments while doing vocals. Kerry Livgren was a great songwriter and musician. This LP has "Dust In The Wind" on it and let's not forget the late Robby Steinhardt on Strings and Vocals.

If you like Steve Walsh's vocals then check out "Journey from Mariabronn" from their first album in 1974. That same year they opened for Queen. Kansas was my favorite band until last year and I would be remiss if I didn't suggest my new favorite Rock band that you did react to once before on the suggestion of your daughter. BAND-MAID just released their new MV for their instrumental FROM NOW ON. Rock isn't dead it just moved to another part of the world. Peace.

When I lived in Detroit, I won a radio quiz on WRIF fm. They mailed me a copy of this album. I won a lot of stuff from radio stations...even after moving to Lansing. At one time, I lived next to a station and would just walk over to get albums, cassettes, mugs and a gift certificate to a tattoo parlor. Never got the tattoo. Gifted it to a friend.

Those are their three biggest 70s singles, but because they're an album-oriented band with a progressive bent, most of their best songs weren't radio hits. A list of some key album tracks:
      Apercu/Death Of Mother Suite
      Song for America
      The Pinnacle
      Miracles out of Nowhere
      Cheyenne Anthem
      Closet Chronicles
      Portrait (He Knew) remix
Journey from Mariabronn (live from "Two for the Show")
Icarus-Borne On Wings Of Steel (live TftS)
      Paradox (live TftS)
Mysteries and Mayhem/Excerpt from Lamplight Symphony/The Wall (medley live TftS)
      On the Other Side
To quote a critic, "Kansas always stood apart ... They belonged to no scene."

First, it is " Know ", not " No "
A top ten(or a bit more) song list from a longtime(1975) Kansas fan
    The Wall
    On The Other Side
    Hopelessly Human
Journey From Mariabronn(the live version from " Two For The Show "
    Cheyenne Anthem
    Song For America
Mysteries and Mayhem/The Pinnacle(two songs meant to be one)
Apercu/Death Of Mother Suite(two songs meant to be one)
    Curtain Of Iron
    Incommudro-Hymn To the Atman
    Miracles Out Of Nowhere
    Icarus-Borne On Wings Of Steel
Like Point Of Know Return, all prog rock, powerful guitars, superb keyboards, and violin solos/riffs mixed in, plus powerful vocals with thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics...they sometimes sound like Rush, they sometimes have a bit of a Yes vibe too(the other band Harri may be thinking of)
    RIP Robby Steinhardt
