I’ve been a member at Rivermont for 28 years. My family for 42 years. Grew up playing it and still enjoying it to this day. This is an awesome tribute to Mark Hoban and Rivermont Golf Club. The course truly is incredible and one of a kind.
A course like this needs more attention for sure. I guess the natural look is more of an acquired taste, but I think the market for sustainable courses is definitely there. Especially for the younger generation who want to prioritize those sorts of things. I personally find this course incredible. The colors and textures are unreal!
On behalf of all Atlanta residents and viewers, we appreciate this 1,000 percent. Thank you for showcasing Rivermont and the masterpiece that is Mark Hoban.
Just a beautiful moment when the pro tells you his feelings about Mark and the job he does for the course. Great job bringing that moment out in the video! Begins at 12:05 mark.
This is my home course during the summers and I can say it is by far one of the coolest golf courses I’ve played in my life. I feel like there’s not a bad hole out there. The greens are a great challenge and the course itself is a great balance of easy and hard. Recommend playing it any chance you get
Man whoever picks the music to the videos has such great taste. The song at the end (BRAVERY- JONNY DYLAN HUGHES) is amazing and fits this video perfectly. You truly know how to evoke raw emotion through all of your videos whether it be Adventure or RGC, what you do is truly inspiring to me
Song is amazing at the end. Truly appreciate these videos. The cinematography, the courses, the people, and the greatness of the sport. These videos show that this can really be the greatest game in the world and it’s to the credit of people like the ones in this video.
This was my favorite episode of the EAL show, if you haven’t listened to it you should. Super interesting to hear about just how involved golf course maintenance can be!
This is amazing and hopefully more begin to follow. It benefits so many from the club (costs) to the landscape (sustainability). I always find myself in a hard place being that I make my living from sustainability development and planning, but loving golf and spending 7 years in the industry. So, really, really love and adore this concept and seeing it gather traction.
If you ask me, all those different browns and greens, contrasting against each other, is just as (if not more) beautiful than any overseeded course I've seen.
Great video, highlighting an outstanding golf course and naturalist/superintendent. Mark has done a great job with Rivermont and his implementation of natural nutrients (using kitchen scraps to generate worm compost/castings and compost teas for instance) and advanced approaches (nanobubble oxygen, humic acid carbon, Air2G2) helps keep this process moving forward. Mark is always finding new approaches to support this work and I'm blessed to work with him and know him as a good friend. A kindred spirit might be a better description. Mark has conducted multiple field days at Rivermont to invite researchers, vendors, and other superintendents to learn from his work and take the lessons learned back to their courses. I hope he can continue to share his work and knowledge. He's an amazing leader in this field. RIP Berkeley.
I really like your videos because they often begin super peaceful and calming. This one though, I got chills multiple times throughout the video due to the stunning scenic shots. I look forward to every one of your videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for another great episode. We are spoiled here in Johns Creek with the number of great golf courses that are within our city limits. Mark mentions the Standard Club which also has a wonderful course full of native grasses and interesting greens (I'm sure thanks, in part, to the foundation he laid there), not to mention both Atlanta Athletic Club courses. Come on back any time and we'll share more of our great little suburban city.
Always great to see the RUclips notification pop up to say Eric has uploaded another video. Love your work, gives an entirely different perspective on golf.
Michael Bazik it’s a beautiful course that’s different than any course I’ve ever played. Don’t just play it once. You have to learn the course to really enjoy it to it’s full potential.
As an assistant at GSGC,I applaud Mark's management practices. It is extremely difficult to lower your pesticide use and still produce a good playing surface.
I run Twin Oaks golf course in Covington Ky and this video hits home. We have Bermuda fairways and 4 years ago we introduced acres of natural areas. Today I was presented with our first of many homemade Mallard Duck homes. My Super and I are heading down the same path with mother nature and I couldn't be happier. Lets make a video Eric
Fantastic to see a beautiful working example of how things could be. Responsibility weighs heavily on the people who actually tune in to the short slice of life we are privileged to have. Im trying to convert a sports club, and stuff the begrudgers.
Like everything else you do, this was awesome. The course I play had a guy that tried to implement the natural look and unfortunately most of the people hated it. I loved it. And this approach is not only environment friendly but it’s financially efficient as well. I live in North Carolina and people freaked the hell out when Pinehurst #2 went natural. I went to the latest US Women’s Open that was held at #2 and to me the course was beautiful and had much more character than it did before.
This was a great video. Really enjoyed learning about the sustainability of courses like this one. Would love to learn more through even more videos on clubs like this Eric. Please keep sharing!
No golf channel/media/content/etc is able to better show the human side of golf. Golf's not stuffy (for the most part); it's a bunch of social people that love the sport, love people, and love to have fun. Love me some EAL!!
Probably one of your most interesting videos yet. Not all golf courses should/can be Augusta. If I could buy a course I would most definitely try to make it as natural as possible.
Pretty well what pature golf on the amateur side of things is all about, or as I've heard it said, "We give the dog a haircut, but we don't shave the poor pup's butt." It's the original way of making a golf course. No earth-moving, no seeding, the clouds are the sprinklers. Cut a few holes and give the grass a mow occasionally.
Erik could you please answer a question about cost? I would think saving money on over seeding (love playing on dormmate grass) , but worm casting not being mass produced has to be expensive. So is his method at this point more or less expensive?
Tremendous idea to go more natural...I’ve been trying to get our club to think along those lines but to many members think along that PGA Tour line of all green is the only way to go!! It’s just not sustainable for most clubs. Great video Erik!
Does anyone know the song at the end of the video?? I have tried everything to find it but no luck. Awesome video btw EAL. Always tell such awesome stories.
I'm not a golfer, Erik, but every video of yours makes me wish I was. Nevertheless, I learn so much from the stories and anecdotes of your guests, and I'll be grateful for that the day I do pick up the club.
Lots of courses and driving ranges will rent clubs. Call up your local ones to see what's available. A place called Topgolf is great if you are near one, they provide clubs for no additional charge if you don't bring them, it's a great place for beginners. You can get into the game cheaply if you ask around and scour Craigslist for used clubs. I just hooked up a friend with a 10 year old starter set that was $600, he offered me $50 and I said "sold" then hooked him up with some balls and other accessories to get started. Good Luck! Hell just get a putter, a wedge and some practice balls that you can screw around with anywhere. Whatever gets you in the game man. Cheers!
I’m in California and would love to play with you Erik! There’s a course near my place called hidden valley golf course and it’s awesome! It’s in between some hills and it’s a beautiful course
Hey Eric. Check out what the folks are doing at A.L. Gustin G.C./U of Missouri golf course in Columbia, Mo. one of the first golf courses in the country certified by the National Audubon Society.
Just a Brilliant Golf course with an excellent ethos. I'm happy to watch Augusta once a year on tv, but I would prefer to play at courses like Rivermont with their respect for nature and sustainability.
4 days of Augusta on tv a year is so far from enough..I see what your trying to say..and comprehend it 100% but. Just wanted to make it clear..I am not content with watching the masters for a week. I.need.more. With that said..well done rivermont..setting a great example for everyone....except augusta
@@gtaylor9218 Yes Augusta National is an amazing place, but I prefer to play on courses that are less manicured and more natural (give me nature every time). Plus I am never likely to get an invitation to play Augusta anyway and I am not sure that I would want to as I detest elitist BS most. But each to their own, take care Sam and happy Golfing
Mannn I would love to get Mark out to my course and educate our team and see how his practises could be applied to the course. We are a small private club fighting for every member and £ we can get while trying to deliver the best product we can for the severely lacking budget.
To be fair, the American image of what golf is, is very different that what golf originally was and still is in Scotland and Ireland. We have an innate need for green everything, with perfect lines, colors, sand, ridges, etc. Most of that is due to the PGA. We see the gorgeous world class courses in their most perfect conditions on tv and want that at home. I mean even cheap muni's near my home try to meet those standards and it's making golf damn near unaffordable.
Erik, he's not a mad scientist, he's a mad naturalist ! He loves the earth, nature, wildlife, he just loves the environment. If only more did. He no doubt keeps the costs down too ! His course is beautiful, a tribute to years of his work. I'm from England and when I play in the US I play in the New England area and most of those courses are so much more manicured than the courses in the UK. I want to visit Augusta but I am prepared to find it too over manicured, too many changes, too many unnatural parts and the result is something that looks artificial. Does that make scene ?
If you want to talk environmental science of golf reach out to Dr. Hurdzan, he designed Erin Hills and a whole bunch of other courses and preaches sustainable and natural golf course design
Fairways always seemed like a waste to me. I try to play from them, but amongst friends, we play “winter rules” all year long. Move your ball, usually within a scorecard length, and find some grass or a playable lie. As long as a course has decent greens, I’m going to have a good time. Love the vids on stuff we usually don’t talk about. Anyone know the song from the end?
This is how golf courses should be. They should be natural reserves with the ability to play. Thanks for showing this off
Aiden Hutcheson well said. Could not agree more.
This is how golf should be. Minimal impact, maximum enjoyment.
Spotting a CubFan in the wild. Makes me happy to see your comment on a video like this. We wont tell the C.C.C.C.

I love the idea and philosophy and I wish all golf courses had the same values.

By far my favorite course vlog to date! So educational and inspiring, keep spreading the good word mark!

Great story and thanks for bringing this to a broader audience....it's the future, but people need educating
What a great episode! Love the look of this course, the different colours make it look so dynamic!
stunning photography as always
well done Rivermont!!
Everything u do is pure gold. Thanks for everything Erik
How cool is this guy and the science behind his "madness". The course looks immaculate, and fun.
i love your videos they way they are edited to show of the beauty of each golf course is amazing !

The local municipal courses I play call this "we got no other option sustainability".
Always great to see the RUclips notification pop up to say Eric has uploaded another video. Love your work, gives an entirely different perspective on golf.
Love the shout out for Tobacco Road. To anyone who hasn’t ever been to Tobacco Road in Sanford NC, put it on your golf bucket list.
I've lived here my whole life and still have not played it. I REALLY REALLY want to tho. Never realized how big of a deal it was.
It’s a “play it once” course. It’s like an amusement park.
FPC after you play it a few times It’s no longer an amusement and it becomes a legitimate test of your golf game.
Michael Bazik it’s a beautiful course that’s different than any course I’ve ever played. Don’t just play it once. You have to learn the course to really enjoy it to it’s full potential.
Praise to people like Mark & the course owner !!! More of this style course would be naturally beautiful & help *Mother Earth*.
Truly a beautiful course and an outstanding neighborhood. We are lucky to have lived on the 18th fairway for 30 years! 💕
This is excellent storytelling, thank for doing this. Every course super needs to learn from Mark.
This is a great little video Erik, thank you for sharing
i enjoy hearing about the science of creating and sustaining the natural habitat of a golf course
Nice video...... I've been a member for 15 years and didn't understand all this. Educational and makes me proud to be a member!
As an assistant at GSGC,I applaud Mark's management practices. It is extremely difficult to lower your pesticide use and still produce a good playing surface.
very good overview of course, not to mention educational video. Looking forward to coming down there later this year.

Golf needs more supers like this guy. Great video.
You’re truly the best videographer and storyteller in golf EAL. Keep doing what you do.

This might be the prettiest American golf course I've seen so far. If it wasn't for New Zealand or Iceland I'd say it's the prettiest period.
It's a wonderful course and a total gem for the area.
This was a great video. Really enjoyed learning about the sustainability of courses like this one. Would love to learn more through even more videos on clubs like this Eric. Please keep sharing!
Love this, Marks passion for what he does is really inspiring.
Love it. Thinking about it as a cycle, not a dead end.
I need to check that place out when I go see my dad in GA. Thanks for the video!

This is really cool because I am a member there and I love Erik and had no idea this was happening I’m so happy right now. R.I.P Berkeley
Word of the day, "inputs".
Probably one of your most interesting videos yet. Not all golf courses should/can be Augusta. If I could buy a course I would most definitely try to make it as natural as possible.
Wow this course looks STUNNING
One of the best Erik.
Me: “oh like at TPC Scott’s-“
Video: “like at TPC Scottsdale, the fairways are green but the rough is dormant”
Me: “that was weird”
Tremendous film, excellent editing and very accurate.
truly astonishing, love it
I hope there is a podcast coming with Mark?
Such a great thing he is doing. Great video!
what an amazing concept, we need to evangelize this guy!!
Really cool video. More of this please
Stunning video, beautiful golf course the way of the future.
Started watching you on skratch TV and still watching every video - Love your Videos - Greets from Germany
Enjoyed video.. what is the song at the end??
Awesome, thanks Erik!
Deadly filming colt. Nice work my dudes
Great video as always! 👍👍👍

what's the song at the end? (doesn't come up on shazam...)

Love the look and quality of your videos mate 👌⛳❤🏴
You shot the hell out of that course, it looked rugged and handsome AF!
I'm not a golfer, Erik, but every video of yours makes me wish I was. Nevertheless, I learn so much from the stories and anecdotes of your guests, and I'll be grateful for that the day I do pick up the club.

Amazing as always. Come to california and play at Oak Quarry with me!
That’s where Stuart has his best round! Love the views there.
A beautiful course, loved the pod with Mark. Need more people like him running small courses! Anyone know the song at the end?!

We have same issue at our club, where everyone wants August conditons for the muni price.
