i thought rachel said no makeup, no brushing hair or teeth, yet sydney is sitting at the table with her frosted eyeshadow and bottom liner….okay ma’am, if you stay ready you ain’t got to get ready!!!
It's a travesty that Amanda Bynes didn't manage to transition into adult romcoms. Iconic scenes of her walking to the giant steel fridge at night wearing an oversized football jersey or eating a giant plate of burger and frys over the typical salad! So Quirky! HAHA
I hate that on a planet of over 8 BILLION PEOPLE WTFH does that even mean anymore⁉️ There's NO WAY we cannot find 10,000's of people that think & act JUST like us at any given time SOMEWHERE on the planet. We all need to just GET OVER OURSELVES yet CELEBRATE 🥂🥳 OURSELVES & our unique combination of skills & experiences that make up us as a PERSON NOT A ♀️ GIRL OR ♂️ BOY‼️ OK 👍 THANKS EVERYONE 😅🍻🤣😆😍🥰😘🥂🥳🤩🎉💞💖🤗💋💯‼️
I don’t even know how you would classify popular in college, unless it’s measured by major and date of graduation. There were literal tens of thousands of students at my university.
I was an extra in this when they filmed at UCF. I think it was the scene where she met the prince guy. Not much to remember or say about the experience other than Amanda Bynes was really kind and polite to everyone on set (even the extras).
She's a queen!!! She's professional and respectful to service workers and makeup and hair people and everyone (so I've heard) 😩😭💕 so sad the stuff she's been through with creeps in the industry
Sad about her breakdown and mental health issues. I wish someone would’ve helped me better. I’m glad she’s better now but she was such a great star before her mental health deteriorated. Too bad hurtful people took that from her
It bothers me that this girl grew up on construction sites, yet when she moved into this dilapidated building she suggested...running for student council?
You can't just up and fix things in the dorms. My old landlord wouldn't let us repaint on our own dime, and the dorms wouldn't even let me change my own smoke alarm batteries.
@jc23 "My house is clean, my bills are paid, and I only destroy one family gathering a year." "Which one is that?" "Whatever one they take a chance on inviting me too."
Hey, didn't you take the How to be a Minority in Cinema class? Everyone knows you can't be more than one. That would give you too much depth and tear apart the very fabric of the movie's flaccid attempt at commentary on social constructs based entirely on one dimension attempts to understand non-hetero Christian white people! Someone, please think of the normies!!
"It goes back to this thing where it's always brave for an "average-sized person" to be seen eating a normal amount of food, but then larger people are subjected to fatphobia or unsolicited comments about what they're eating just when they're trying to live their life." THANK YOU. As a fat woman, it's so enraging to see this sort of thing in the media. Kind of aggravating how skinny "not like the other girls" characters get praised for eating cheeseburgers and pizza whereas you just know if a fat girl did the same thing in the story they would be the butt of the joke or it would end in their weight loss journey into fuckable status.
Right?! SAME. *Size 4 girl eats chip* "She's so awesome not like other girls." *Size 20 girl eats lettuce leaf* "You sure you want that? Didn't you eat, like, yesterday? You'll never be beautiful if you keep eating like that." ALL THE FORKING TIME
Yeah because men want you to be a big boobed, small waisted , big assed girl who watches football, drinks beer, eats pizza for breakfast, and still manages to look perfect at perfect at all times. They also want you to look perfect but not wear make up or do your hair it should all be natural. They hold us to the same standard that the girls who have plastic surgery assistance. They fail to acknowledge that if all a girl does is watch football eat pizza and drink beer you’re bound to gain weight and not have time to glam up every day. They also want you to make good money so they don’t have to support you but not too much money so their peepees don’t feel small
Damn, I was thinking about how much the stereotype of the “pretty popular girls don’t eat, weird quirky manly girls eat” and how much it effected me... and then I remembered how much that stereotype effected Amanda.
I mean Amanda kept getting these "not like other girls" roles because she's not a "traditional beauty" and she was a comedic actress. In the 2000s, that meant quirky girl roles.
@@cheesecake134 look at almost all the other girls in the movies, the ones considered to be the "pretty girls". They're literally all blond hair, blue eyes.
Legally Blonde but instead of girls uplifting each other in a world that constantly demeans and undermines them, it's "if you do enough things men approve of, you'll finally be worth something :)"
Tho as someone who played Barbies with my only friends the goats, I would have benefitted from both movies (pretending this one was good), because I've been both the only person in the room who owns a curler, and the only girl who didn't pack one to go camping
so this girl who has apprenticed in a trade her whole life is now going to university seemingly for the sole purpose of joining this sorority filled with nursing majors ? seems like a lot of money for "the experience" ...
The whole “first date the dude shows he’s a good man by taking her to do community service” plot is every start of every 20/20 episode where everyone is shocked the husband is a bad dude like run Sydney
or alexis rose's relationship with that guy named Mutt Schitt. they literally meet doing community service and "fall in love" while he's with another woman and then he drops off the face of the earth and nobody cared lol
As someone who was the secretary for their hillel (jew club lol) the scene where Sydney's at the club just shows how little the writers did their research. We literally ate bagels, did some crafts, and all of us wore...normal clothes. Some of us even had (gasp) straight and blonde hair! And some of us *harder gasp* weren't even white! god I hate it here
Same, can confirm. Not the secretary, but I have been regularly attending meetings every week for 3 years (except for the semester that the campus closed for covid). We have people from all over the world (I can think of people from China, the Netherlands, and South Africa off the top of my head). We range from religious to secular, Ashkenazi and Sefardi and yes, there are some who are not white!
you are SPOT ON with the fat-shaming/disordered eating content. Also I love how the way Sydney gets the other girls to start eating breakfast isnt by like, talking to them about their body image and food issues, it's just by eating in front of them. It's like they had never heard of food that wasn't raw vegetables before she came along.
Eating in front of people can make them feel more comfortable eating in a public setting. Some people are nervous to eat in public unless others are eating as well
@@livewiiiiire That's what happened with me and my friends. Until I started eating breakfast at school they hadn't even considered eating in the mornings! Sometimes a little change is enough, but not all the time.
These types of movies with their “cool girls eat” messaging are so toxic. They present this idea that eating healthy is basic and vapid but then shame women for being fat. I see it present itself even in my relationships where if I’m eating healthy my bf will be like “you don’t need to eat like that” and if I’m eating unhealthy my mom will still lecture me in my late 20s about my diet! These tropes are so harmful I’m self conscious no matter what I eat
So true! What I hate most about this trope is that the message is not "don't starve yourself to look beautiful," the message is "you should be able to eat whatever you want and still be perfectly skinny." Which is not exactly realistic either.
omg this! why do they expect women to be stick thin but also eat a lot of calories, you're shamed for being picky and eating salad but then shamed for being bigger like honestly who cares just let people exist
And this was so messed up because at the time, Amanda Bynes herself suffered from an eating disorder. Like, objectively, what the other girls were "eating" in that scene was problematic (half of a grapefruit? Just celery? Just water?). This was starving and not heathly, that's true. But instead of calling out how toxic the diet culture is and have them in a healthier medium, here's go Sydney who eats a caloric breakfast. And she's seen as the example to follow even if it's not a substential way of eating either for most people (Amanda and I'm sure the producers knew that well enough). Some people can eat like that everyday and stay thin, but most people can't without gaining weight. It would've been more sensible to let the girls eat more of what they liked (eating cereals to go with that half grapefruit, for example), instead of shaming them and acting as if Syndney's way is the only good way. But of course, none of these girls gained a single pound from that quick change of lifestyle and lived happy ever after. Because it's that easy 🙄
im gonna pretend that sydney's makeup is so bad bc she never learned how to do makeup growing up...that would make sense...if only the people who made this movie thought of something like that lmao
Ahh, yes, I too wear my traditional Polynesian clothes when I go out to support a candidate in a college debate. Totally relatable and inclusive and not at all demeaning to me or my culture.
I roll in wearing a kilt and playing a bagpipe cause I'm like part Scottish or something. Man it sounds really dumb when you apply the same ridiculous shit to white people.
Why does the movie make the election so important? No one cared who was president of the SGA at my university. Also, though, my university wasn't full of shallow stereotypes so maybe that makes a difference
It would have been nice if she got letters from the mom's college friends instead, after she died abruptly in a construction site accident, and she comes to her own conclusion that that's how amazing friendships are made.
Was thinking the same thing. Like if she remembered all her moms sorority bringing food over or if they showed up throughout her milestones to help her get ready for a school dance or just anything
It'd also add pressure of why she'd lie about not being able to make it into the sorority house where ALL your surrogate aunts went. (Also maybe make a point about how far the house has strayed from its sororal roots and has instead come to focus more on popularity and cutting each other down)
Didnt her mum die of Cancer? I agree with you. It would have been better if we had seen her moms sorority sisters in the movie. Show them being invovled in Sydney's life and telling her about the great times they had at college, their bond etc... Then it would make sense that she wanted to pledge the sorority to have that type of bond and to feel closer to her mom.
I'm not like other girls...I'm conventionally attractive, white, with inexplicably professional make-up despite being raised by my aggressively unfeminine dad!! I also eat.../food/.
If you want to _italicize_ words on YT, the trick is to use under score before the 1st letter and after the last letter, filtering the space from the word before. E.g.: Word(space) _ (emphasized word with no space after or before underscore) _ (space). _it's that easy!_
The movie never says she's abnormal it says sorority culture is involved in a lot of shallow and privileged wealthy people which is true. They never said she was abnormal once.
Perfectly timed ad roll. When Nick was going "Where is she? Where is Sydney?" It cut to a trailer for The Handmaid's Tale, so the answer to his question came as something like "She has eluded your soldiers for 14 days."
Dwarfism/Dwarf is actually not a slur, Dwarves have a different condition than Little People and it’s called Dwarfism. An example of someone with that type of Dwarfism is Peter Dinklage. “Midget” is absolutely an ableist slur, though!
@@caffeinatedkatie4696 A dwarf is a person typically under 4'10" with a disproportionate body while a little person is small in stature but their body is proportioned.
@YesImSureIEnteredMyNameCorrectly Actually the terms little person and dwarf are used interchangeably, there is no one or another. A quick Google/browse on the Mayo Clinic/NHS/Little People of America can tell you that. Restricted growth, a.k.a dwarfism, is characterised by unusually short height (typically less than 4' 10" as an adult) caused by a medical or genetic condition. There are many conditions that can cause restricted growth but they are generally divided into two broad categories - proportionate short stature (PSS - what you've described as little people) and disproportionate short stature (DSS - what you have described as dwarfism). Which term is used is down to the preference of the individual with restricted growth. Its important to be sensitive to that.
This video is currently blocked in North America due to a copyright claim from Universal (AS PREDICTED). I'm working on the dispute now, but until then a VPN will help ;)
I'm literally in the middle of watching it 😅 I guess the block doesn't work if I'm already watching it. This movie cannot still be making them money... why they soooo mad?!?!?!
It’s mostly because 90% of teen rom coms involve the girl being not like other girls, but it doesn’t help that she’s brunette. Brunette girls are NEVER like other girls, according to movie makers.
The evil witch should have married Sydney’s father. That would have been more like Snow White. Sure there’s an age difference and it’s weird cause the daughter is the same age, but that’s the story we needed
Or the evil witch could be the same age as her dad, so the reason she stays at the sorority is to try to imitate the young beautiful woman she wishes to be.
@@lovecraftscat5044 Or she's the house mother, I've heard of some sororities having that. Like the dad shows up to the sorority on parent's day, meets the house mother and they get married very quickly.
Ok, so. This sorority has a lot of chanting and secret traditions which is “unrealistic” TO MOST PEOPLE. But like. I’m not saying my undergraduate college was a cult, but we legitimately did have a TON of traditions that included chanting (often in Latin) and singing and usually with really specific instructions (ex. Lantern Night: Starts at dusk, in black robes, freshmen file into the cloisters in a SERPENTINE formation, upperclassmen chant in Latin, swing lanterns in “a, c, b” form, etc) and you’d be surprised how quickly people would just pick up on the songs and chants and then just…do it? And yes, we literally did have a “goodnight” song (it was in Welsh and English, and closed out THREE other traditions that take place the same night). We also weren’t allowed to tell other colleges about a lot of our traditions. Again, I’m not saying it was a cult, but I mean……………a little cult-y.
Wellllll.... My mam died when I was 4......my dad (a nurse) explained menstruation to me with accurately hand drawn diagrams and all fully scientific labelling, buuuuut.... I distinctly remember him saying 'just like a chicken' in the midst of explaining about the shedding of unfertilised eggs and endometrial lining....... I asked him would mine come out with the date stamped on them too.
@@29jgirl92 ah yeah he prides himself on the whole 'sex isn't dirty' stuff. When I got my first period he (well he claimed he) wore a pad in his underwear all day in solidarity 🤣🤣🤣
My dad explained it to me like a chicken laying an egg looool. And then I turned around and acted like a smart ass and was like WELL THEN WHY DONT OUR BABIES COME OUT IN EGGS AND HAVE TO HATCH?! and he was like whatever get out of here I was just trying to explain something to you in an interesting way that you’d understand that also wouldn’t be ‘embarrassing’ for you ffs.
I get so stressed with the "cool girls eat carbs and bitched don't" we saw so much at that time. Like, they knew it was an eating disorder. Some movies joke about this way too much, some even make jokes about bulimia (bc they seemed to think that not eating is not disordered enough) and it's always painted as "oh, these girls are so vain!" as if the quirky protagonist is cool enough to eat and that's all there is to it, but she's only cool because she is thin, if she was fat eating normally, she would be the butt of the joke. And this thing of painting eating disorders as a matter of vanity is just. So toxic. Idk man I think if a girl doesn't eat unless she measures her oat bran with a kitchen scale I'll not think she's a vain bitch, I'll call the campus psychiatrist to talk to her.
You make so many good points EDs are not about vanity They're about control and numbing ED shaming and fat shaming is so prevalent especially toward women Movies like this casually pushed some harmful ideas and normalized stuff so much
I remember being so annoyed by the makeup. Snow White has porcelain skin, so they bronzed Amanda with mud and drew her eyebrows on with a melted crayon.
“Your friends in college will be your friends for life.” I literally only still talk to two people I was friends with in college. Everyone else dropped off the face of the earth lol
I don't talk to anyone I was friends with in college. And you know what? That's fine. Sometimes I think movies make these really weird 'rules' about how our lives are supposed to be and it's just silly. So what if we all went in different directions? It's life.
College for me was like high school for most people because my abusive mother didn't even let me get a high school education. It was not a good experience for me in other words so I don't have a lot of people from that time period worth keeping in my life.
Movie tropes like not eating properly, "not like other girls", demonizing girly girls, the "makeover" scenes, are the reason so many girls my age (late 20s/early 30s) have deep seeded issues I'm still working through. xD
I swear if I wasn’t trans (I’m afab) those makeover scenes would have given me a goddamn complex. Especially the Princess Diaries one. I love the movie but as someone with thick, easily tangled hair and glasses… yikes
@@DeathnoteBB OMG My mind when writing that went straight to Princess Diaries. I had a shit time growing up wearing glasses because every. single. thing. about glasses is "unattractive" I legit broke my glasses in high school so I didn't have to wear them and suffered from, well, not being able to see!
Cheyenne Linn made a video about how in movies at that time they'd shame girls for liking fashion and feminine things and praise the NLOG characters. Bc feminine women liking fashion, beauty, and what else is bad? B they apparently are all dumb? Shit like that makes me tired of characters like Wednesday.
as a server if a big group of college students like that tried to walk out on a bill I would be lock the doors and perform a citizens arrest on every person in that diner
About the sister thing: in the Grimms fairy tales there are two different stories with protagonists called Snow White - 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' and 'Snow White and Rose Red'. The second one is about two sisters who live in a cottage in the woods and has nothing to do with the first one.
I wonder if she had an envelope for every outcome, since who knew if she was guna go to college. Maybe there's a pregnancy envelope, a dropped outta school envelope, a getting married envelope.
It’s crazy to me how early 2000s it was just seen as normal and feminine to not eat? Like? No wonder we all had eating disorders. Food was manly apparently.
I've been recommended her videos before, but never watched any. Looks like I know what I'll be doing after this. I have found out about so many great channels in the comment section of Nick's videos....looks like I can add another to the list.
As someone whose been suffering with an ed for about 10 years (I'm 22), I'm really glad you addressed the ed culture that was being pushed down our throats when we were only kids/teenagers. Acknowledging these things help me understand why I have these problems and help me work through them. With all these tasteless movies surrounding eating disorder culture to the proana content on Tumblr, its no wonder so many people have eating disorders and body dysmorphia. Keep up the good work 👏👏👏
I know this comment is older (but, so am I - as a millennial) I have a strong background in Psychology and was reading your feedback and experience intently, then I saw you mention "the movement" on Tumblr. My entire body clenched because I was *personally* horrified. I remember when the original site launched and how because filtering/"safe search"/content blocking software in browsers were *extremely* subpar it was highly accessable and easy to end up accidentally exposed to it and their agenda. The idea that someone would bring it back for a resurgence to a new platform for a new generation is awful. There's an even larger microscope on image with a incomaperable disparity between what is seen and reality. I apologise for the long rant (and I hope nothing I said caused you any distress, I tried to choose my words - or lack thereof - very carefully.) That being said, thank you for telling your story. It shows your strength, and seeing that strength may help others who are not ready to share yet. Despite what the media, spokespeople, or anything claims - *health* is beauty. 99% of the "beauty" industry is to artificially emulate the appearance of a healthy, well nourished, hydrated, fully rested (ect) individual without doing half - or any - of those things. I know that it's a continuous healing process (especially when, as I said, people can change their image with the tap of a button) but please try to take into consideration one thing: Don't compare yourself to others, because *you* are incomparable. --- I wish you the best, happiest, and healthiest life.
I have never seen this movie but somehow I know this random fact about it originally being titled "Sydney White & The 7 Dorks" but the studio thought having dorks in the title would hurt its box-office. Hilarious that they totally undermined the moral of their own story by giving in to the dork shaming. Anyway, this video was hilarious Nick. So glad it was released from copyright jail.
I'm not sure I'm appreciating the onslaught on Amanda Bynes' movies and on my delirious nostalgia that had me convinced that every movie she starred in was at the epicentre of grade A film making 🤣🤣
Me, seeing this movie being advertised in 2007: That looks super lame, I'm going to skip it. Me, seeing this clip show over ten years later: That was a great choice.
re: movies praising thin-average people for eating... It makes me wonder also what was Amanda Bynes' experience at the time. I don't know anything about it and I don't want to project or speculate too much but it seems reasonable to think it could have been that while her character was being praised for eating pancakes and cheeseburgers, irl she was dealing with shaming, pressure, restriction and scrutiny directed towards her diet and weight.
As someone who identifies as asexual, I get so uncomfortable and low-key sad when "not having sex" is literally a plot point to convey someone is inferior. And it never gets called out by movie reviews and rants because people are just so used to the idea, that most don't even notice the prejudice is there and should be taken seriously, just like homophobic jokes.
I’ve definitely seen it get called out, but not nearly as often and never in the context of being asexual if that makes sense. Like people will say “there’s nothing wrong with not wanting to have sex,” but it gets left at that, no one even mentions asexuality. Maybe because a lot of people have still never heard about it?
@@Hannah-zw9ow Maybe I'm missing something, but as an Ace, I feel like acknowledging "If you don't want to have sex, you don't have to and there's nothing wrong with that," is in itself, ace-inclusive by default? But I do agree, it is nice and validating to have asexuality mentioned by name.
@@cbz5283 exactly, it's something that often happens in comedy movies, and what prevents me personally from praising 'acclaimed' comedies like American Pie, Superbad and it's copies
When I was going through recruitment, every sorority made it a point to tell me that they were all foodies so unfortunately for Sydney, she’s no longer a manic pixie dream girl
I remember fishing this movie out of the $1 bin at my local closing blockbuster. One thing I absolutely hated was the totally irrelevant inclusion of Sydney's suitcase of comic books to show how she was a 'dork' too. Apparently she's a nerd too but anytime any of the guys make a surface level dnd joke she's like 'Yea, I have no idea what you guys are talking about, haha you're such nerds'. Which is it script writers?!
To be fair I kind of like comic books too but had very little background knowledge about DND before I met my current partner. Not all nerds are the same and I guess they wanted her to still be relatable but “not too nerdy”?
@@ghoulishtoad omg was that why? I thought it was because of the Moroccan hat and they just gave him that name because he was brown 😂 I'm Arab so I'm used to movies showing India but playing our music, I just assumed Americans were back at it with their racism lmao 💀💀💀
Why does Amanda Bynes play the exact same qUiRkY “not like other girls” girl in literally every movie☠️ She’s the Man, this movie & What a Girl Wants are literally all the exact same main characters
The absolute WORST Amanda Bynes movie I've ever seen that no one has seemed to have heard of is Lovewrecked - sorry to whoever else has seen even a minute of this movie.
Yes, I'm probably a bit older than most of Nick's viewers, so I haven't seen a lot of the movies he reviews, but I have seen "Love Wrecked", and you are correct. It was an awful movie, and if I'm remembering correctly, oddly sexual in nature, for her still being so young, and the "love interest" being quite a bit older than her......but it's been years since I saw it, so I could be wrong about that.
Is it bad that I have Lovewrecked on DVD and used to love it? I haven't rewatched it yet as an adult and I still thought it was better than Sydney White, She's The Man, etc. Sounds like I'm wrong.
Amanda Bynes played the exact same character in all these films. The "not like other girls" character who was "so not girly AT ALL, what's a dress? heels? makeup? ew!", who ate a lot because "what are calories? I love to eat! I have meat on my bones! salads are for rabbits!", who considered themselves/were considered by others as "one of the guys -- I can fix a car and belch and wear boxers and don't care about dumb stuff like painting my nails because that's GIRLY stuff and I'm a TOMBOY so men respect me and women are jealous of me!!" Sydney White, She's the Man, What a Girl Wants, it's all the same character. It's just Amanda Bynes "destroying traditional femininity" by eating with her mouth open and looking confused when people ask her to wear heels. I mean, I loved these movies growing up and I love Amanda Bynes's work, but looking back ... yikes.
ok just to pick a fight: the line where she says that she doesn't get a lot of pledges studying is bullshit, anyone who rushes has to maintain a certain GPA (usually over a 3.0) because GPAs affect srat rankings, which is a huge deal at most schools. a lot of srats will build in study time to assure that pledges are maintaining good grades
Yeah, a lot of the sorority girls I've met have been triple threats where they manage to balance managing social events, competing in sports, and maintaining 4.0 GPAs all at the same time
"Here's what makes me SPECIAL AND UNIQUE!" I died at that. That's always how I feel internally when at a job interview and I'm asked to describe myself and my interests
Okay but as a German I'm slightly confused because "Rose" is from a completely different fairy tale? Like she's from "Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot" where two girls live with their mother (who is alive) in the forest cut a "dwarf's" (or gnome or some sort of forest spirit?) beard because he keeps getting it stuck places until his power is so reduced (yeah his power is stored in his beard idk either) that a bear and a falcon who are actually princes he enchanted and they spend like a winter with get married to them. It's not the same Snow White as in "Schneewittchen und die 7 Zwerge" even the name is slightly different. Though it means the same.
This comment really makes me think of Klaus from American Dad telling German stories. Look it up if you don't know it. Makes me think the stories they talk about are actually real?
@@JK-vh3sr I looked up some of them and I didn't get the impression they were based of anything real, no. Maybe I should have mentioned that the bear and falcon turn back into humans before marrying the girls.
What’s interesting is I remember reading that Amanda Bynes had an eating disorder. So it’s likely she was struggling herself. It must be odd to have to play a character to be fine and unaffected when in reality you’re struggling with food yourself.
I literally had just checked your page to see if you uploaded, because your videos seem to be the only thing I want to watch lately. I'm autistic, so I live a life heavily based on the same routines day to day, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your updates like when your on vacation and not uploading that day. You don't ever owe us that, but the fact you go the extra mile and give us a heads up is really helpful. My son's father died in the beginning of May and your videos have become a tradition on your upload days. I think you are insanely talented and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. xoxox
I'm so sorry to hear that, I lost my dad around the same time, so I can relate to Nicks videos being one of the few things to make me smile these days. Hang in there my friend, I if you ever need a kind word, or a pick me up, you know where to find me......the comment section of Nick's latest upload. 😊
So the letter cracked me up. My mom died when I was 12 and before she passed she wrote me a bunch of cards for different events. For high school graduation I got this whole thing about how she hopes it was worth the work and I’ll be amazing in whatever field I want. For college I got a card that said “off to college!!!” and I realized the envelopes got mixed up 😂
Ya know, if Sydney was just rejected from the sorority altogether rather than waste time getting hazed first, this movie would be less tedious. We already have a overwhelming amount of evidence that she's painfully unique without showing that she doesn't fit in with the Aryan Club. Also that chant at 13:14 is terrifying and would be reason enough for me to never want anything to do with a sorority if they were trying to sell me on it.
it really says something about the American education system when I never even considered it being weird that the library desk hadn't been sanded/cleaned or replaced in 3 decades.
The entire joke with them is that they’re either socially awkward or have something weird about them physically like allergies or pissing yourself- or the ONE person of color is just stereotypical and vaguely African while having like no lines or personality
I don't think that's the case.. aside from the "dopey" character that they weren't sure how to translate to a college campus, they're all just social outcasts in one form or another which was kind of the case in the original story. it was very of the time in pop culture that wasn't based in reality (think BBT) and in the end, they were "supposedly" celebrating being "dorks." but even so, I'm not going to pretend that it was done well or that there aren't other problematic elements. you could probably make a case for ableism or making a joke out of neurodivergent individuals but the entire movie is messy at every turn tbh
I know it's bad, but I still like this movie, it's a stupid happy ending movie I watch when I feel super anxious. Doesn't cancel how super terrible It is tho
Okay so "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Snow White and Rose Red" are separate tales. In German the Snow White in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is "Schneewittchen" Vs the other Snow White is "Schneeweißchen". In the Rose Red story a plot point is there is a rose bush with red and white roses and often the Snow White from this tale is called "Rose White".
Do they not know that just because you have one degree you can’t go back to college and get another degree and still be considered a student??? And still run for things lol
Yeah!! Being 30+ and in college isn't unheard of at all. In high school, most kids are the same age but college is so different. I've had classmates that are 17 to 27. Do these writers think college is just high school 2.0????
Menstruation is the same thing as a chicken laying an egg though. Humans and most other mammals drop their egg into their uterus, then if its not fertilized they shed their uterine lining. Chickens just drop it outside their body so there's no shedding of any bloody, mucusy flesh when their egg is rejected.
I watched this movie once when it came out and did not like it lol. Its kinda similar to the house bunny too...but much worse. I think because I was obese my whole life, I always hated the trope of "thin girl eats so much and still has a perfect body and its quirky and a personality trait!" Its like the ultra mary sue. Oh she likes sports, is super smart, good at everything, isnt like other girls, and is super positive too? Its just too much and puts weird expectations on young women

Right?? Like the casual misogyny was so normal in the early 2000’s
It would have been fine to eat if they didn’t backfire it completely with the “after all, we’re all a size 2” comment. Bring It On did the same thing.
omg this! why do they expect women to be stick thin but also eat a lot of calories, you're shamed for being picky and eating salad but then shamed for being bigger like honestly who cares just let people exist
I spit my coffee out at the "in-between my walks from the gay bar and the free clinic, I did attend 4 years of college."

(Also maybe make a point about how far the house has strayed from its sororal roots and has instead come to focus more on popularity and cutting each other down)
@@TheNumnutRandomness Very true! And all of the jokes making fun of sorority girls would hit different.

Dwarfism/Dwarf is actually not a slur, Dwarves have a different condition than Little People and it’s called Dwarfism. An example of someone with that type of Dwarfism is Peter Dinklage. “Midget” is absolutely an ableist slur, though!
What is the difference between a little person and a dwarf?
@@caffeinatedkatie4696 A dwarf is a person typically under 4'10" with a disproportionate body while a little person is small in stature but their body is proportioned.
@@yesimsureienteredmynamecorrect so "little people" are just short people?

The evil witch should have married Sydney’s father. That would have been more like Snow White. Sure there’s an age difference and it’s weird cause the daughter is the same age, but that’s the story we needed
Or the evil witch could be the same age as her dad, so the reason she stays at the sorority is to try to imitate the young beautiful woman she wishes to be.
ok but that would be so funny if he showed up to visit Sydney and he and rachel ended up dating

That's weirdly the story of what a girl wants isn't it?

So toxic. The idea that someone would bring it back for a resurgence to a new platform for a new generation is awful. There's an even larger microscope on image with a incomaperable disparity between what is seen and reality.
I apologise for the long rant (and I hope nothing I said caused you any distress, I tried to choose my words - or lack thereof - very carefully.)
That being said, thank you for telling your story.
I know that it's a continuous healing process (especially when, as I said, people can change their image with the tap of a button) but please try to take into consideration one thing:

You should do the old Mary Kate and Ashley movies, like Billboard Dad and the one where they went to Australia for witness protection
PLEASE
Billboard Dad was brilliant!
Yes the Australia one!!! That just unlocked a memory lol
Our lips are sealed😂 I had that on DVD. The shame.
YESSSSS
Steaming boy piss was not a phrase I needed to hear... but here we are
That real sorority clip was genuinely spine chilling! Why was that so scary lmao
re: movies praising thin-average people for eating... It makes me wonder also what was Amanda Bynes' experience at the time. I don't know anything about it and I don't want to project or speculate too much but it seems reasonable to think it could have been that while her character was being praised for eating pancakes and cheeseburgers, irl she was dealing with shaming, pressure, restriction and scrutiny directed towards her diet and weight.
she has been open about having body dysmorphia and eating disorders due to Hollywood pressure unfortunately
@@reilly4678 :,,,,( so awful. childhood celebrity is so obviously harmful. I hope she has found healing and is living her best journey.
“The wiggiest looking wig.”
There was major wiggage :)
You should do Wild child clip breakdown. It was THE teen girl movie in the UK
That’s why I never saw it! I heard it’s a classic and I’m like “How did I miss THIS”
Yess it's so good
As someone whose name is Sydney, this was THE movie.
These are always funny but this one has me cackling 😂 “remind me to delete this if i ever enter the corporate world”
Seriously, Nick was particularly extra and sexual today and I'm like oh my lord, watch your mouth young man
He’s in heat don’t mind him 😭🏃🏾♀️💨💨
As someone who identifies as asexual, I get so uncomfortable and low-key sad when "not having sex" is literally a plot point to convey someone is inferior. And it never gets called out by movie reviews and rants because people are just so used to the idea, that most don't even notice the prejudice is there and should be taken seriously, just like homophobic jokes.
100% agree with you! Let people be asexual ffs 😑
Yes, or being called a virgin is an insult/shameful.
The fact that I thought you already covered this movie BECAUSE SHE WAS CASTED IN THE SAME TYPE OF MOVIE EVERYTIME. Ms. Bynes deserved better 😒
@@awkwardotter13 you wouldn't be confused or put off by other's nerdiness tho
@@piersnivans5983 good point
I mean she can be into comic books and still know nothing about D&D

The black guy in here is like the Latino in that 70s show, just an offensive stereotype we could have done without...
his name was literally Fez too which stood for foreign exchange student its horrible
@@ghoulishtoad omg was that why? I thought it was because of the Moroccan hat and they just gave him that name because he was brown 😂 I'm Arab so I'm used to movies showing India but playing our music, I just assumed Americans were back at it with their racism lmao 💀💀💀
@@poppyseed5270 Trust me, your assumption wasn't wrong.
He is not latino tho hahahaha
Why does Amanda Bynes play the exact same qUiRkY “not like other girls” girl in literally every movie☠️ She’s the Man, this movie & What a Girl Wants are literally all the exact same main characters
Cause she got typecasted, that's why.
The absolute WORST Amanda Bynes movie I've ever seen that no one has seemed to have heard of is Lovewrecked - sorry to whoever else has seen even a minute of this movie.
@@deborahseevers7856 yes totally, Nick thinks Sydney White is bad but she's starred in movies that are much much worse
Nick needs to cover this one
omg I watched that and I forgot it existed
I mean, I loved these movies growing up and I love Amanda Bynes's work, but looking back ... yikes.
ok just to pick a fight: the line where she says that she doesn't get a lot of pledges studying is bullshit, anyone who rushes has to maintain a certain GPA (usually over a 3.0) because GPAs affect srat rankings, which is a huge deal at most schools. a lot of srats will build in study time to assure that pledges are maintaining good grades
but that doesn't align with the pretty girls must also be stupid and vain cliche
Yeah, a lot of the sorority girls I've met have been triple threats where they manage to balance managing social events, competing in sports, and maintaining 4.0 GPAs all at the same time
yeah you get kicked out if your grades drop or you can't pay your dues. it doesn't seem like they did their research.
Me, an utterly bemused Scot- "hmm yesss indeed, one must maintain ones GPA, of course...srats...rushing pledges...certianly" lol
Um but dont a lot of pledges struggle with maintaining that GPA during pledging? It was def a bs line though
"Here's what makes me SPECIAL AND UNIQUE!"
I died at that.
As an American, we just got it wrong I guess
@@DeathnoteBB That's okay I'm not mad at you guys. Just confused.
They have been helping me have something to smile about, and something to laugh at during those hard times like in the middle of the night during this grieving process. I think you are insanely talented and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. xoxox
I'm so sorry to hear that, I lost my dad around the same time, so I can relate to Nicks videos being one of the few things to make me smile these days. I truly wish you the best, and am sending you a virtual hug. Hang in there my friend, I if you ever need a kind word, or a pick me up, you know where to find me......the comment section of Nick's latest upload. 😊
The image of those girls “cheering” in the sorority house (along with their male counterparts) is 98% of the reason I didn’t attend college.
“Slob the builder” you have me dead every video 😂
Every time you said that Lenny was running for president I just kept screaming "TERRANCE" at my screen.
"When did Pete Buttigieg have an acting career?" LOL 🤣 I'm dying!
So the letter cracked me up. My mom died when I was 12 and before she passed she wrote me a bunch of cards for different events. For high school graduation I got this whole thing about how she hopes it was worth the work and I’ll be amazing in whatever field I want. For college I got a card that said “off to college!!!” and I realized the envelopes got mixed up 😂
Is that the same house from House Bunny? Literally same conflict of saving a sorority house....
Nick should absolutly watch that movie!! (Also it has baby Emma Stone, my original lady crush!)
House Bunny was far more entertaining than this crappola.
“Catcalling is sexual harassment” THANK YOU!
Also why Amanda as Snow White? Why not an actress with translucent skin and jet black hair?
SO YOURE DOING A CINDERELLA STORY NEXT, CORRECT?
Yes! One of my favs to this day
He needs to review all of them.
The eating breakfast scene is sad when you realize Amanda Bynes had an eating disorder at this time
It's like Jeannette McCurdy in iCarly :/
Ya know, if Sydney was just rejected from the sorority altogether rather than waste time getting hazed first, this movie would be less tedious. We already have a overwhelming amount of evidence that she's painfully unique without showing that she doesn't fit in with the Aryan Club.
Also that chant at 13:14 is terrifying and would be reason enough for me to never want anything to do with a sorority if they were trying to sell me on it.
The Jesse McCartney duet was beautiful. Just like all of our souls.
I've thought about "It's a sorority not a ho-rority" every day since I was 10
The "hi-ho, bye-ho" line still make me cackle like 15 years later
Cinderella didn't cut her heels or ties off. Her step-sisters did, filling the shoes with blood 👍
Now that the fairy tail movie adaptations are here i'll wait for the clipbreakdown for the cinematic masterpiece that is Beastly
I remember Beastly, it was so cringe! The ending was so poorly written.
“They consider me their queen because I have the fishiest smelling discharge” 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
it really says something about the American education system when I never even considered it being weird that the library desk hadn't been sanded/cleaned or replaced in 3 decades.
I feel so fricking uncomfortable with the 7 "dorks" here, seems like they're making a mockery of people with mental disabilities.
Yooo i was getting that vibe too
Yeah the socially shunned nerds in these movies always seem to be mentally disabled?? It’s weird as fuck.
Assuming that any and all weirdos/social outcasts/socially awkward people have mental disabilities is actually ableist as fuck.
Clip breakdown is the one thing that always makes me laugh no matter how bad of a day I'm having
I know it's bad, but I still like this movie, it's a stupid happy ending movie I watch when I feel super anxious. Doesn't cancel how super terrible It is tho
Me too... I like fairy-tale adaptations, and this movie is fun.
I need to rewatch this movie, I am sure it would bring me joy.
That's me with Hannah Montana the movie idk it just makes me happy 💀
Okay so "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Snow White and Rose Red" are separate tales. In German the Snow White in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is "Schneewittchen" Vs the other Snow White is "Schneeweißchen". In the Rose Red story a plot point is there is a rose bush with red and white roses and often the Snow White from this tale is called "Rose White".
That said I think its a fun twist to bring in Rose Red, Fables did it very well there.
@@tgs9929 yeah I was just about to bring up fables/twau lol.
Do these writers think college is just high school 2.0????
now that we're in this series of modern day fairytale, i'd like to see you cover Beastly after this
Ooh yes!
Yes yes yes! I thought it was going to be so much worse than it was but I’m sure there’s still tons for Nick to tear apart.
Oh my god, YES. Many of the early 2000's teen romcoms tend to really drag in the beginning, but that movie was wild from start to finish
Beastly the book was good, the movie not so much
Menstruation is the same thing as a chicken laying an egg though.
Snow White and Rose Red is actually a different story that involves bears and marriage
