- Cars are packed with features. And lets face it, no one reads the owners manual. Im pretty well up to speed on VW/Audi cars. But I learned something about my MK8R and MK7.5 today. It has tabs to hold up the rear cargo cover.

I never knew my car had valvetrain damage until after I owned the car 6 months
It be like that, wondered why I never had 6th gear, it turns out the previous owner put a 6speed gear knob on a 5 speed transmission. I felt like such an idiot
@@kennorcott7074 there's no wayy you fell for that 😂😂😂
@@s-mode3325 I figured it out once I replaced the transmission for a 6 speed anyways lol

I wrote in the wrong section but lmao thats hilarious! 😄 🤣 😂
If only there were an owners manual included in the glove compartment for the owner to learn about their car. That would be so convenient!
A quick summary would be nice. My Audi manual is half warnings and legal disclosures after each section... Not to mention it's commonly too verbose.
Sighhhhh. I blame attorneys for this.
@@RUclipsHandlesAreStupid still, there is an index and you can skip pages until you get the part you want

After 7 years, I learned my car is not deer proof.
Oh dear
These cars are filled with all these little tiny convenience features, I love discovering them.
no fr it’s so satisfying
"easter eggs" - Like my B6 A4 had a tiny little sun visor above the rear view mirror - or that my Touareg visor split so you can have it forward and to the side at the same time.. Or the B6 A4 has little fold down grocery hooks on the underside of the rear deck to hold your plastic grocery bags.... And the list goes on and on..
Yup! As if they are designed by Germans.
I've learned my car burns oil after owning it for 2 months ...
Welcome to direct injected VAG motors.
That is perfectly normal, they guy you bought it from topped it up so that by the time you noticed something was wrong he'd be in Mexico.
Sweet! Mine leaks it from every orifice.
mine 20 years old Jetta does not burns oil but its only 60,000 mileage
@@u2pankow That's trick. It's 20 yrs old.
The best feature of most hatch backs users don't know about is the grip in the hatch to pull it closed. So many use the outside of the hatch lip which is evident by the clear & clean finger marks on the paint!!!
Checking for this tomorrow
After three years, I went through the OEM roadside kit in my Alltrack. Found an AWESOME OEM multitool in it.
I think Humble was being satirical when he said there should be a book. He’s probably got it memorized.
Bro.. You should check the glove box. There's probably an owners manual there 😱😂
Was gonna say the same thing 😂

Had my mk7r for 6 yrs and didn't know this either
I think it’s called an “Owners Manual” I could be mistaken.
Although there's an owners manual that gives this information, I would rather discover these little secrets on my own. Every time I do discover these little gems it's like I have a brand new car all over again no matter how long I've owned the car. I don't know about ya'll but to me that in itself is worth the wait.
I've owned my Golf R for 5 years now and just found out I can do this 😂
Same!
Me too after 4 years, and I only recently found out that you can store the rear parcel shelf in that compartment too.

In a perfect world the sales rep is supposed to walk through the car on delivery and show you these kind of features...but that's a perfect world.
If only there were some kind of manual for drivers of the car. A driver's manual, you could say!
@@dielaughing73 But most people shouldn't have to buy a car just to read the owners manual to see what features it has. A sales person should really hit the bullet points.
Sales guys don’t know quirks about them either
@@dielaughing73 Dude it would be quicker to read the Qur'an from cover to cover than it would be to read most of those manuals!
In a perfect world someone reads the fucking owner's manual like they're supposed to because everything is detailed in said manual.
My Mom owned a VW Lupo for about 15 Years. After 8 Years of owning that car I showed her the 3rd Sunvisor above the Mirror. She couldnt believe she never saw that one. It was never folded up again :D
I owned my car for three years and didn’t know it came with a brand new air pump in the back.
Ive heard when the touregs first came out you got a free 2 day class to learn about all of the features that it has
Had one on hire in Switzerland a few years ago. I'd flown into Basel that morning, driven almost to the Italian border, had a meeting, & was driving back to Basel to stay the night. Part way through it pings at me & a message comes up 'Driver fatigue detected'. It wasn't wrong lol.
I'm glad my truck is so simple I don't need a 2 day class to learn about all of its features....
Been daily driving my 87 Bmw 325i for nearly 6 years.
Zero issues but I did just find the blinker stock, no plans on touching it
typical bmw owner at its finest
My BMW doesn’t have one.
Betcha that the blinker fluid is outrageously expensive and is probably re-branded because it's all made in the same factory.
It wasn't always an optional extra.
After 5 years of owning my 7.5 golf GTI I figured out adaptive cruise works perfectly through stop and start traffic, especially when you really cbf driving after a long day and you dread that hour in traffic it’s amazing, I always thought it would deactivate because of stopping but from what I can tell it doesn’t pretty much at all
Half the fun about a new car is finding out all the Cool Things by accident!
blew my mind when i found the ac vent in the glove box in my mk5.
Yup to keep drinks cool 😎

Samething in my Mk7
Um, the MK4 GTIs had a strap that fit on a hook on the parcel shelf to hold the floor up...See, Germans can do simple when they want to...crazy engineers
The look on my face when I realized... my mk5 Rabbit does this too. Holy crap.
2016 VW GTI owner here....just learn something new about my car after 6 years!!!
Owned VW’s for 10 years. I recently learned that when you press the gas pedal in full, you still can ”click” the pedal down further to shift a gear down. 😅 Really handy in takeovers if needed.
Totally held mine up with my head too! 😃
What! I always wondered what those tabs were for! Sweet
Its a reason I love VW's, finding things I never knew.
So true... I just learned by accident that my sun visor extends. No more need to dangle t-shirts, hats, etc. 😂
After owning a Mk-4 Jetta for years, I discovered the tiny sun visor above the rear-view mirror.
Followed shortly by the bitter disappointment that it doesn't cover those gaps not covered by the visors... ;-)
I finally knew something you didn’t.
I now feel equipped to take on the world 💪
Hahah yesss
I owned my current Yukon for three years before my son told me about how to fold the middle seats. There's a switch... I always manually actuated them, which I thought was a weird way to do it vs my older suburban I used to have... Made sense after seeing the switch.
I had my VW for 8 years and I was learning little things about it that I thought were genius the entirety of the time I owned it. I think it’s time to get another one. I’ve had better cars, but I never loved any car like I did my VW
Haha, it took me a year or two to realize my Fiesta ST had these too. When I acquired my MK8 GTI last week it was nice to see this feature as well.
Mk8 gti..congrats bro that is sick
Owned my Impreza for more than 6 months before discovering the side view mirrors folded in.
I hope you didn't discovered that by smacking into something...lol
Same thing with my 07 Aveo. Back seat folds up twice to have a flat bed in a compact car. Owned it for 10 years before I figure that out. Amazing feature.
Him: "They should make a manual to tell you what your car does"
The book in his glove compartment: "what am I, chopped liver?
My family has owned the same mk4 Jetta since new I was the one that discovered that the trunk floor insert has a hook in the handle to hold it up, 20 years later
Yup, it's super cool. I discovered mine on my mk4 Jetta maybe 2yrs into owning it?
Only problem is that I can't really use it cuz now I have a sub and amp in the trunk weighing it down hahaha
lol that's what that hook is for?
@@ianmoore322 It pushes the sub into the rear seats so it can't reach high enough. And if I tried to make it go that high I'd probably fold the floor in half since it's not very strong.
So THAT'S the purpose of those! Been wondering for a while...
Yup, same
The mini AC vent in the glove box was a game changer for me. Close my own vents, open my windows, catch a breeze and let that guy keep my drinks chilled on a road trip
Cold coffee is nasty after it gets warm
When the sun shines from the left side I move the "parasol" to the left but I didn't know I could extend it so it blocks better the sun. A very happy moment in my exciting life
visual inspections are key! 😂
Thanfkully I knew this when i went with my mk7 into the ditch. And you can even lover the cover to get more boot space.
I finally learned how to turn the rear wiper off after 3 months
Ohhhh
I thought he was going to say he didn’t know it could drive him to a barber.
Welcome to the club. ☺️
Owners manual? 😂😂
Yea they should work on making those
When I got my R I sat down and read the manual, it took about 4 hours 😂, but I learned a ton of things that I would probably never have known.
My Passat has a handle on the carpeted cover for the spare tire that hooks on the edge of the trunk opening. Some people might not like Volkswagens but I like them for the attention to all those details.
notification squad, Have a nice weekend!🔥🔥🔥
Notification squad?
After eight years of owning my car I found a lever on the drivers seat that tilts the base.
That's such a minty feature
That's stuff the dealer should show you to help sell you on the car, I remember going to the car lot with dad as a kid and they would show us EVERYTHING on the car lol.
My mom bought a 2002 Acura RSX brand new, and I bought it from her in 2009. I was browsing the parts categories at RockAuto (because car guy) when I discovered that my car had a glove box light, confirmed by the shop manual and visual inspection. That was in 2019.
In the late 90s there was a program forcing sales to go over all little details. The customers were called to verify. The dealer did NOT want to lose any HALOs for failure to discuss everything about each new car sold.
I didn’t know my car had rain sensing windshield wipers until I realized that they turned themselves up faster without me having to touch it. I got to looking at the lever and the twisty thing to adjust how often the wipers wipe on “delay” instead of “delay” it said “auto”
I screamed with excitement
My MKV GTI came with a DVD from VW that told you all the cool stuff like how to get the windshield wipers to go halfway and stop to that when you put it in reverse it changes the ac to recirculate mode.
The older VWs and Audis I believe have a little clip that folds out from the handle for the trunk floor panel and it clips onto the bottom of the rear windshield
I finally bought a Subaru Impreza. IM 34 and didn’t have the ability to really buy one until now. I did it motocross racing and hunting all growing up as well as 4 x 4. I finally bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza sport, premium manual transmission in order to do my first build. I have on this car for two years now and just figured out that it has rearview window defroster’s, but they only come on when you click the rear button.
That book idea would be so sweet. They could call it like Buyer’s Instructions or Owner’s Manual or something like that and you could always keep it in your car to reference if you need to. What if they made it small enough to put in the glove box too???
Wow I’ve held mine up the same way this whole time. Thanks!
I acquired my mom's car after she died I have always been the person to do maintenance on it for over a decade. I had it for about 6 months when I realized it had heated seats.. since my son is the sole driver of the car I asked him if he knew that, his answer was priceless.. you didn't tell me that...
LOL. My MK4 never had it. But my MK7, i noticed the little tabs and put two together right away. Cool feature that VW added.
2015 GTI. Had it over a year before I learned the spare tire well, is also the storage area for the parcel shelf that hangs from the hatch. Flip it upside down, slide it in. No more just having it flop around when the seats are down carrying big stuff.
Did you know that half of the dual pipe exhaust goes black, and the other half stays shiny?
What a cool feature.
Awesome video's your producing, down to earth, wry humor, and info that we all need, even after accidental discoveries, keep up the great work man. BLESS
You will be mesmerised when your done reading this.
The parcel shelf and be stored in that "compartment" (false floor) when extra space is needed in the back.
Right! Sooo many people NEVER look at the owners manual. I look at the manuals for my cars. It upsets me when I buy a used car and the manual is missing, you know they did not read it, they sold it.
Didn't know about those. That's awesome.
Also, if you have the MK7 floor on the higher setting, you can also fit the parcel shelf underneath the floor.
I learned after two years that my manual 2014 Mazda 6 has hill start assist. Just press in the clutch while holding brake and it’ll hold brake until you gain forward movement. No more rolling back a few inches 😂
When I bought my Mk1 TT from a guy a month ago who had owned it for 12 years, I showed him that the fuel cap has a place to slot onto while you fill it, 12 years and he never knew
That book was there but it was gradually replaced with a book telling users that drinking antifreeze is dangerous etc etc
I'm a now retired but longtime, old school car salesman. I would sit and read something called the "Owner's Manual." I found them to be packed with useful information. As a *bonus* sometimes I'd go sit in whatever new car I waa learning, and practice with it, BEFORE showing it to a customer. (Ford guy, bleed Ford Blue).
I have had a ‘98 Volvo V70 in our family since 2013, just last year I figured out that the rear seat bottoms can be removed by pulling four red levers. I knew the rear seats could fold flat but I didn’t know you could straight up remove the seat bottoms. I also figured out I could pull two levers on the passenger front seat and it would fold down, only saw my dad do that once but never knew how he did it.
I just discovered my wife’s Hyundai has “environmental sounds” that can be enabled in it’s media player
LoL, my dad discovered that we have automatic day/night lights but my dad used it manually until I took over
Dad's doing it right, as he's likely to turn his lights on in poor weather, and you are likely not to, as there's quite the possibility you're counting on them to come on automatically. They won't.

The sunshades slide out and block right across the driver’s window seven years owning a mkv, I found out on the net.
I like that it’s discrete.
Also the interior lights can be dimmed by double clicking the left/right switch.
It took me 2 years of owning my mk7 golf r to realize that in your brab handles the two little tabs you would take down to remove the brab handle can be used to keep the handle open and you can use it to hang clothes
I’ve owned a Golf for 4 years and didn’t know this! Thank you!
I also only recently found out that the rear parcel shelf can be stored in the spare wheel compartment too!
That’s funny. Had my R for 3 weeks and I was just looking at those tabs today wondering what they were for. Lol.
I’m aware of those tabs. Just had no idea what they were for.😂😂😂 thanks❤
My mom has had her 08 Mercury Mountaineer with Microsoft Sync for 14 years. Just the other day as we were traveling she didn’t know that she could play her iPhone music through the USB port because they car has an actual 3.5mm auxiliary jack for audio. I had to explain to her that her since her iPhone doesn’t have an aux port, they made the iPhone capable of playing music through the lightning port. Therefore she can play music through a regular usb to lightning cable. Oh, and it’s 10x better music quality
Bought my wife a Mk4 GTI back in the day. Had it for several years before she figured out the all windows up and down by turning the key in the door lock and holding it there. 😂
I decided to read the manual for my 98 CRV cover to cover, and discovered that if you take the headrest off, pull a lever and lift the backseat up ten degrees and pull the front seat so the way forward, the seats will like up forming a flat bed inclined around 10 degrees. Amazing.
Did he have a sales consultant show him the car? Probably not. These are cool things I show my customers.
I’ve been driving square body Chevy’s/GMC’s my whole life. Well I went to go put my 91’ suburban that I bought about a yr ago into 4WD to see if worked yesterday on a overland adventure and in the process I confirmed it worked but then also realized the trucks actually have a light on the dash cluster that lights up letting you know 4x4 is engaged. I’ve been driving them since I was 16 and just now noticed that lol. Guess my Jimmy’s light or switch isn’t working lol.
Brooooooooo this was one of my number 1 features since day 1... so bad my golf have to go I'll miss it for sure
I’ve learned my CC has an oil leak, a coolant leak, a vacuum leak, and a brake fluid leak.
At least you can find out about your discovery in the owner’s manual. I had to find out the other way.
Bloody hell, I was wondering what those tabs were for!!! Nice one thanks!
I bought a (new) MK4 GTI with fog-lights. I didn't know how to turn them on until 130k miles later, after I sold it. I never turned them on once the entire time I loved owning that car..
I've had my MK7 for 3 years now and I didn't know this, thank you! I did know about the owner's manual but there's no way I'm going to sit down and read it cover to cover.
Here are a few more. The sun visor can pull out of the piviting arm to be extended. There is an AC vent in the cabby and the glove compartment. The windows can be lowered by holding the lock button on the remote, and can be closed by holding the open button.
I never knew my car had a bad clutch/throwout. Until this week... I bought this car beginning of the month...
I learned my 99 CRV has a hook to hold up the picknoc table for the exact same scenario. Noticed it about two years ago, after ten years of ownership 😂😂😂
I worked at Volkswagen doing exactly that, explaining to clients everything about their brand new car, from services to how to defrost a window, and also those little things, like the "hidden" cup holder (similar to a 3 series BMW) or that little tab to hold the boot lid up.
I always like to skim the owner's manual when I get a new car because I always find things I would never have known.
If you come back to your VW on a hot day you can put the key in the driver's door lock, turn it to the right and hold it there and it will unlock and all the windows and sunroof will open. Also works the opposite way to lock and close everything.
3 years inom owning my Tiguan I finaly, thanks to you, discovered this feature. :-)
I love finding these. It's like doing all the side missions on your fav game, after you completed the campaign several years ago
