Terranigma is my top 5 favorite games ever, glad to see someone recognizing it
Legend of Legaia has an excellent home village sound track: Rim Elm.
Thank you for this gem
Pains me SO much to see Legend of Mana forgotten... it was, is and will forever be my biggest art inspiration (just got the Art of Mana artbook a week ago!) and i absolutely love it. Thank you for this videos and all the memories man!
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits is my fav game, I wish the Arc series would have continued in this direction.
I prefer arc the lad 3's direction
Oh man have actually been playing it on PS4 recently and its so nostalgic. Story is great and the characters are so awesome, especially Darc, GO DARC!
Same. Honestly twilight of the spirits was one of the best story lines I played as a child. Fucking lit. Would recommend that game to anyone who loves old school JRPG's
@@RaidenKaiser i love arc the lad, its such an underrated series, the 1 and 2 pack is amazing, but i just love how broken you can get in 3 early on. as well as the focus on the hunter missions. i never managed to finish twilight, nor the other ps2 one.
Twilight of the spirits was the only arc the lad i played so i wasn't dispointed by the changes not knoing it belonged to a series.
Legend of Mana is one of my all-time-favorite, no way I could forget! Man, I remember me at the times of elementary school reading the PSX magazines with game solutions - then I bought LoM and... Were looking forward to skip the classes and play, play, play! I loved it. Made a replay a year ago and even though its system is quite simple now, the story and the artistic side of the game are still quite nice. Love it
Legend of mana rules
I really like how you're all about getting to the business of things. No frills or bullplop, just amazing lists. keep up the excellent work dude.
Arc Rise Fricken Fantasia. Such a great game and a challenging game. Sucks that it might be forgotten forever
Damascus Unverse for a game of that high quality and music made by Yasunori Mitsuda, Yoko Shimomura & two pupils of'em, it's unfair for that to be unknown, and I hold high regards to that game, as I think it's one of the best JRPGs of all time.
It's definitely an interesting JRPG, but it felt a bit lackluster in many areas, though the gameplay was really good and hearken back to the old school JRPG days with a fair challenge.
Yes i play this and qiute hard on start :) but great game :D
Infinite Undiscovery was one of my favorite JRPGs ever. When I watched the opening credits and saw Ryo Mizuno’s (Record of Lodoss War, Legend of Crystania, and Louie the Rune Soldier) name attached to this game I knew I was going to love it. I highly believe the reason this game went so under the radar is because it was on the wrong console had this been on PS3 it would have done so much better same goes for Blue Dragon.
You're a cool guy man. I agree with what you say about forgotten and underrated rpgs. Never heard of Tsugunai Atonement until you mentioned it in your other video. White Knight Chronicles for the PS3 is ridiculously underrated too!
OMG, you're right about WKC. It's not unknown but it definitely is underrated and it was quickly forgotten when it came out because it was too short. Thanks for your feedback!
That's cool man. Yeah it was quickly forgotten about for being too short. I swear I heard really bad stuff about it when it first came out too. It's one of my favourite ps3 rpgs. I want to play Tsugunai Atonement but it never came out in Europe :(
Ah! WKC, when i bought my first PS3 that was actually the first game i bought for the console. But i bought the version with both the first game and the second in one. Anyways, it caught my eyes because i do like Jrpg's and mechas for some ungodly reason. Now WKC doesn't really have "Mechas" per say. But you who've played it knows what i mean. And it's a decent game! But the english dubs are a big turndown. Other than that i like most of it. From the soundtrack to the story and the artwork. Even the clunky gameplay.
Interesting fact about Legend of Mana, it was never released in Europe, yet the main theme of the game is written in Swedish and sung by a Swedish singer. Sadly us Swedes weren't getting the game to see our language in a bigger game from a foreign developer :O
Hell yeah! Arc Rise Fantasia was so damn good. It was created by some of the Tales developers. The music was perfect and story. Best Wii game along with Xenoblade and Last Story. The voice actors were from many Tales games as well. A must play, the Final Fantasy of the Wii!
Infinite Undiscovery is one of my favorite games ever!!! It deserves another chance, and even a sequel!!
it's biggest sin was being 360 only which pretty much killed it before it was even released.
give me a remaster, move it to computer/ps4 an you will see me throwing my money at it
@@throwbackgaming5260 yes and eternal sonata for PC please
Secret of Evermore , Treasure Hunter G , Live a Live, and so much more
I still have my ps1 Legend of Legaia from 20+ years ago. I played through it again a few years ago on my ps3 and still really enjoyed it. Great game.
Prokion baby...wooohh!!!
But we remember it as Legend of Legaia. I always mention it next to Xenogears and Star Ocean The Second Story
"one of your friends mentions...".. wait... What friends?
As for me, Legend of Legaia is not forgotten, but completely unknown.
I had a Playstation, i am a RPG fan, but never heard of this game until now.
So - thank you - gotta find it and play!
PS: Legend of Mana is a masterpiece of art. How can this game be forgotten? I think, it's just unknown to many, just as Legend of Legaia was unknown to me.
I really love this video, man! Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks!
I love Legend of Legaia and Legend of Mana, my childhood games. Legend of Mana has great soundtracks. I often listening to them until now, especially my favorite, Hometown Domina's theme.
Legend of Legaya is the best hidden gem ever. Super game, and sooo unique!
Terranigma is the best SNES game I ever played. And the story was one of the best I ever saw in a video game
Thanks to you, I just added quite a few rpgs to my want-list. I picked up Infinite Discovery awhile back for cheap but forgot I even had until now!
Thanks for reminding me about Legend of Mana :'), i know something is missing in my list about JRPGs in PS 1 console but i didn't have a clue until i watch this video. Deserve a like :D
one of my favorite jrpg in ps1 that i will never forget is "Breath of Fire IV"
I have:
Legend of Legaia,
Illusion of Gaia,
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits,
Terrranigma,
Arc Rise Fantasia,
Evolution Worlds,
and Shining Tears.
Love them all. Played Legend of Mana...but didn't much care for it. I like nearly all the other Mana games, though.....go figure...
Man Eric,i love number 10 big time and i poured alot of time in Legend of Legaia because of how wild the battle system is.
Illusion of Gaia is also an awesome game Eric,it really made me enjoy how much thought was put into it.
Legend of Mana is super awesome and i had a wild time trying to figure out how to place all the areas plus running about to battle all the intresting enemies.
I haven't played Infinite Undiscovery yet so i wanted to get your opinion on the game itself.
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits is intresting and i just started it but i don't ever hate the changes because it makes the gameplay way more intresting.
Terranigma is one game i haven't gotten a chance to play but i do hope to get a chance to one day.
Arc Rise Fantasia is another game i haven't been able to play yet.
Oh man,Metal Saga is so freaking amazing and i learned how to go about playing the game plus the execution is everywhere but if you take the time to grind the beginning area then you should be able to have the funds to upgrade everything you need to take on the wild enemies.
Evolution is one i haven't played as well but hopefully one day i will.
As for Shining Tears,i loved playing that game along with all the other Shining Force games because it had alot of depth and intresting mechanics to it,that made playing them worthwhile since you had so much leeway in how you wound up gearing up your characters to take on almost anything.
Great list Erick!
It hurts my heart that Legend of Legaia deserves a spot on this list lol
It was my first JRPG.
I actually played through the first act recently to see how its held up over the years, and it really is a game that every JRPG fan should play.
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits was fantastic and deserves attention.
I got to disc 2 of Infinite Undiscovery, but it was during a time when I was buying more games than I could reasonably beat and still taunts me from my massive backlog lol
Shining Tears I got like 15 hours into before lending to a buddy as a coop game he could play with his girl, and ended up losing it forever lol
Good game though lol
Thank you. Well, at least Legaia's fans keep the game very well remembered and that is all that matters in the end.
Arc the Lad Twilight of The Spirits was real good. When other games where going with a grid based system for their tactics style games. Twilight of The Spirits went with having a circular style that just seemed more real. I also liked how the story had two different/slightly opposing characters that eventually come together. Real neat.
Some of the best games end up being swept under the rug. It's a real shame, honestly.
all i have to say about legend of mana is, this is what i point out when people talk about pixel graphics. i have yet to see a game look this amazing.
No jade cocoon? No one seems to remember that game
indeed
I think a cool top 5 or 10 video would be on Game Arts games, which would include the Lunar series, Grandia series, and Ragnarok Odyssey
I have Terranigma on my SNES emulator on my tablet. It's a hard but great game.
Wait a second...LEgend of Legaia 1 ( not 2...by the gods, not number 2) was a fantastic game! I still have it for PS1. It was unusual with its fighter combo battle system, somewhat linear but original plot and world, and fun factor. Getting al lthe hidden stuff was great, and its still in my top 5 NON mmo rpgs list ( #1 Wild Arms, #2 FF7,#3 Legend of Legaia, #4 Chrono Cross and #5 Heroes Quest 1 for the old Tandy computer ; THE ORIGINAL version and one of the first rpgs) . ^~^ Good vid though.
Amazing story
Amazing soundtrack
Great gameplay
U get the legend of mana
One of the masterpiece arpg on ps1
Back to 2000's when i played this game with my brother
"How come people ignore this game [Infinite Undiscovery]?"
...because it's on XBox. You really had to ask? Most people aren't going to buy a console just to play one game, and the bulk of the JRPGs were on Sony consoles, so a lot of people gave up Blue Dragon/Infinite Undiscovery/Lost Odyssey/Eternal Sonata/Vesperia for...everything else.
To me Lost Odyssey was huge letdown. When I play a RPG game I also play because I love to level up. They put a level cap and I was forced to play the game in the gamemaker way. It should be up to me if I want a challenge or not. If I want to level up i should be able as much as I like before I progress. They took that away and I sold that game right away. I hate it when try to think for people like "oh but it wouldn't be challengeing and to easy" BITCH it's a RPG that's how it was meant to be played. You're dealing in most stories with bad guys I want to be as strong possible and put that STUPID level cap in each chapter? I sold the game right away. And will never touch it again. Same goes to Chrono Cross. Someone should smack that person who came up with that stupid level cap. Let it be up to the player how they want to play it. If I want a challenge I will level up less. but at least it's a choice I can make. But they forced that into our throaths. Never forgiven those 2 game makers. Trash games. If the level cap was gone I would say yes those are actually great games. But that level cap.. Why bother even to put a level up system. Just finish the first chapter and the faster you are the better equipment you get and we all can forget about battles since it's more important to follow the story..... indeed such a great gaming experience... NOT!
Um Xbox 360 was initially killing across the board INCLUDING JRPGS. Not only did we get Lost Oddysee and Infinite Undisovery, but Tales of Vesperia, and keep in mind Tales had been pretty silent in the West up this point, the last games being on PS2. Vesperia was my first and favorite Tales game. We also got Blue Dragon, a game I initially bought and disregarded but after playing it through was pleasantly surprised by. I didnt even buy a PS3 until near the end of end of its lifecycle due to the fact that J4PGS FINALLY started to release on it. And to be honest FF13 left a bitter taste in my mouth. But PS3 did get better offerings.
Most of these games aren't even close to being forgotten titles and many RUclipsrs mention them often.
I played Infinite Undiscovery, it was decent but it did have a few quirks such as a annoying gameplay mechanic with a flute that clashes awkwardly in combat and puzzles, awkward parry mechanic, cringe voice acting, lack of customization to weapons and armor and some mild glitches. The story was okay, had a nice plot twist and the ending was predictable. I mostly remember the endgame gauntlet thing it had, and the Queen forgot her name but wow she was a good final boss fight. Then played Dragon Age and personally forgot about this game.
I never forgot legend of legia one of my favorites.
Arc the lad 3 is awersome! its diferent from the other arcs as its a more relaxed game, with less focus on its story, and more on the world itself, but it is incredibly fun for it.
Legend of legaia One of my favorite..story line is fantastic!?gameplay also
man i was kinda hoping you would talk about the holy grail of forgotten games. possibly the most amazing psx game to never come to the west. MOON. saying this game was ahead of its time is not even scrapping it.
Great list! You've got a new subscriber!
Thank you and welcome!
Oh yeah. I remember the number 1 game on this list. I had a friend years back who lived a couple houses away from me that had this game. We played through a level many times, because I guess he needed to grind or something. It was a fun game from what very little I remember of it.
I will never forget Twilight of the Spirits... its the only game I've ever forced myself to complete cause I couldn't stand it.
Romamcing saga 3 Is by far the best rpg game i ve played :$
Haven't heard much about it, what aspects make it number 1 for you?
played most of these games, its sad what happened with quinted, but some of the devs want to remaster terranigma at least. I think the game director just disappeared.(for real)
Only played the shining force series and shining tear is something different, there is also shining wind never played those...
And somehow i missed Legend of Mana, while i managed to play all 3 seiden densetsu...lol that is what happens if you commit completely to pc games and western rpgs/strategy titles.
Did those games got better it so hard to imagine for me.
Like i still think Seiken Densetsu 1 on the gambe is the best in the series.
And shining force 1 the best of its series.
Sequels got longer and more hours to play through it, but the quality dropped those first games got a lot of suspension and no fluff. Like a good clean director's cut.
Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia are part of a trilogy. Even more forgotten is the third game, Soul Blaze (and by the worst of the three). Soul Blazer is a fun game in and of itself though. Illusion of Gaia is the one I played when I was a kid, so I tend to favor it. In fact, when I tried remembering it, for the longest time I thought it was a Zelda game, and I couldn't find it, but then stumbled upon it one day. Terranigma is considered the best of the trilogy by many. And they're only very loosely connected.
Wow i didn't realize Pedro Pascal plays RPGs!
I too really enjoyed Infinite Undiscovery.
Woah, Evolution Worlds. I had never heard of that game since I played ages ago. I even had forgotten his name
While it's great to see Legend of Mana get some much-deserved love, I still think Sword of Mana deserves way more respect than it got. It fleshed out the characters and gave us better gameplay than the original.
Legend of Mana and Infinite Undiscovery were GREAT. LoM didn't age well though and nowadays is just odd going back to after all this time.
Infinite undiscovery was indeed great, then it suddenly ended. It was WAY TOO SHORT, but I think it could be a Xbox exclusive jrpg and I think it would actually sell well as a franchise
@@Gilly037 I know, it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and we got no conclusion due to poor sales and general lack of interest.
Saw a video recently that basically said "stop calling for innovation when you don't ever buy innovation" and i couldn't agree more. Which is why i buy games that deviate from "the norm" often, whenever i get a chance and i find it even mildly intriguing.
Infinite Undiscovery was one such purchase and I LOVED it for it's new take on the JRPG genre. Though admittedly, the voices did get a LITTLE annoying at times lmao. Specifically Capell.
Emerald Comet I could not agree with you more! Kingdom Hearts started out that way as well. I love games like Lost Odyssey and Magna Carta because they are familiar but so different at the same time. I feel the same way, that people don't buy innovation
Arc of fantasia was my fav jrpg...But nah...Normies make people forget legendary jrpg
I LOVE Legend of Mana. It’s WEIRD, and has far more to do with Michael Ende (The Neverending Story) than Secret of Mana, it has always seemed to me, but I LOVE it. I love Secret of Mana too (it is my favorite video game of all time,) but these lovely sisters couldn’t be any more different than one another! Two very different gems.
the BGM you use is so relaxing.. I'm pretty sure this is from legend of legaia.. vahn town maybe?
Yup.
That theme is from the town of Jeremi :)
From which game was the music you hear in the beginning video?
AH Honnestly for Infinite Undiscovery the fact that I never continue is due to localization, I'm french and in France Infinite Undiscovery wasn't translate and was release entirely in englsh, back when I got it my english were very poor and at one point I couldn't progress because I didn't have a single clue about what to do, but now that I am more comfortable with English maybe I should give it another try.
i still have my legend of legaia and legend of mana,
legaia was difficult but good if i remember right,, mana had some sides that annoyed me is prbably the reason i remember it better even tought i like legaia best
I remember all of these games; own most of them; and finished some of them
Evolution lol. I remember having that game for dreamcast. It was decent
i say games like radiata stories and rogue galaxy are also forgotten games that were really good
More like underrated games, especially Radiata.
yeah its really sad that game was soooo good and addicting to play
Rogue Galaxy Underrated ? I thought this was the opposite everytime this game is mention everybody talk of how good it is while I find it to be one of the most boring A-RPG I ever play.
Rogue Galaxy was like Xenoblade before the Wii came out. Huge open maps and beautiful graphics.
That's nothing FFXII and Dragon Quest VIII has huge maps to and amazing graphics to for their time and they are better than Rogue Galaxy in terms of map because the Problem with Rogue Galaxy is that many area were just one or two zones that was reuse over and over and over (only variation being only when you reach a boss) making most of the dungeons extremely repetitive, boring to explore and way longer than necessary, add to that a boring battle system (especially considering this game was realease at the time around Kingdom Hearts 2 which blows him away in term of battle) that resume of hitting the ennemy, guard to be able to attack again and use items to heal nothing else there is some cool idea for boss fight at the beginning (this is actually one of the only game I know where the very first boss is actually the most enjoyable one which is sad really) and then at one point of the game all the bosses became just HP Sponge that hit like truck, character that are underuse, a story that is rather simple (not bad just simple) and sorry but I can't considere with all this flaws I can't considere this game as good for me it's just an average game, and the worst part is that the version of this game we got was actually an improved version apparently.
Omg, Illusion of Gaia was my favourite game for a looooooooooooooong time! Personaly it's still my favourite SNES game.
Now, Legend of Mana is a game that I could never forget. since I'm addicted to the great compositions of Yoko Shimomura.
Then you really need to play Terranigma!
It sounds like you're kind of relaxed with you're eating system. I remember most of these, and I can't say liked them. But thanks for reminding of Illusion of Gaia. Forgot about that one
gj having evolution on here the shining series in general is forgotten so much that they dont even port the games over anymore
They just did with Shining Resonance Refrain for the PS4/Switch/Xone.
yeah i know i mean all the ones that stayed in japan
Gonna dl and play infinite undiscovery! Ty for the info.
You're welcome.
Will play it after i get back my xbox360 from a friend i lend it to. Ive been playing emulators for 2 months now.
I hope they put arc the lad r in english on the consoles.
Ohh wow I remember playing Evolution Worlds as a kid! It was so damn hard! Lol
I cant find Infinite Undiscovery to buy in Brasil for years, so, If one good soul wanna give me this game for xmas i would so happy 😎
I started Inifinite Undiscovery, but got 3-sector red ring on Xbox 360 (i.e.-death); need to start again someday
I still play Legend of Legaia, Xenogears and Valkyrie Profile
Damn Infinite Undiscovery i remember being so hyped for that game and then i saw something which made me really sad and im pretty sure that's why it's been forgotten it was xbox 360 only ... like wtf? the 360 failed miserably with JRPGS and i myself never got one (which sucks cuz i never played tales of Vesperia but we finally getting that PS4 re-release boyyyyy)
Altair Newgate ive got xbox 360 and i have some really good jrpgs
The 360 had some great jrpgs aside from Infinite Undiscovery,Lost Odyssey was fantastic, although multiplatform to this day Eternal Sonata is my favourite single player Jrpg. Blue Dragon was an enjoyable jrpg, then there were multiplatform jrpgs like Last Remnant,Resonance of fate, Dragons Dogma etc. The 360 was Xbox's best era for jrpgs.
Legend of Legaia has a pain in the ass summon system
What is this music track from from it's hauntingly beautiful
Legend of Mana -> How to forget the single time i did 100% of the quests? Good times.
it's hard to notice when you played all the games in this list. I'm i old? Maybe!
i think Vagrant Story should be on this list
I think it's on the second part.
F*ck! Arc Rise Fantasia! One of the best JRPGs I have ever played! Best music too! F*ck the company who released it overseas, using a lackluster lineup of voice actors, luckily, I played the undubbed version which greatly amplified a better experience.
"I don't wanna die!"
I must admit I really enjoy Metal Saga. I still play it occasionally.
HOW CAN I FORGET ABOUT ARC RISE FANTASIA!? That game has taught me the meaning of git gud long before I even heard of dark souls xD
Man I loved Legend of Legaia
High five.
One of my favorites when i was a kid. Recently got it on my PSP
No, no. The best JRPG that no one remembers is Grandia 2
Grandia also, ps1
Still have my copy of Twilight of the spirits.
Archaic Sealed Heat
You know, I was thinking and I understand this video is a bit on the not so new side, but as far as forgotten JRPGs go... What about Battle hunter? I liked it, no one knows about it so I guess it's forgotten if it was in fact ever known at all. Good list though.
Guardian Crusade, It seems no one knows this one. Truly epic
It is hard to say it was a good game. If the dragon did not learn darkbeat's sister Dragon form he was useless the last half of the game. Some of the toys had such ridiculous requirements to recruit most battles I just used the step toy to deal 9999 damage and that was it. Anyone who did play it will also complain that they either did not know the fairy was a playable character or that she only showed up 1 time the entire game usually on the battle against the heroes.
Don't think Terranigma was forgotten at all btw, SaGa on the other side, people hardly know it and its such a successful series, just overshadowed by its own companys Final Fantasy.
I love the way you talk man
Haha, thanks.
I played infinite undiscovery and beat it a long time ago
I would try to play Arc rise fantasia, but something happens to the main character, he is forced to kill his Childhood friend who's family he has been living with, all because a certain girl chose him...
Shining Tears such a great game
This is the first time I've seen "Infinite Undiscovery" on a list that wasnt for worst video game names of all time... That name probably had a lot to do with why I never played it, in fact!
yayyyy evolution!!! soooooo underrated!
i think that sqex should release their xbox360 rpg games on pc
Cyber org psx is a rpg?
We never asked for dub in the first place, we only need sub, and yet they still make the dub
Just being a dork, but you obsolete your title by making the video. They stop being forgotten; ergo, the title becomes a paradox. It's like time travel, Marty! :P Lost Odyssey was a great narrative!
You're right; the whole point is to make these games be remembered, hahaha.
saga frontier, anachronox, guardians crusade, thousand arms if you want to make another list
I did make another list and I'm pretty sure I left it at the end of this one :)
no I mean you should make another one since I know you didnt mention anachronox, kartia or eternal eyes lol
Kartia and Eternal, I put them on hidden gems videos! :D
you should check those other ones though lol
thousand arms and lunar are two more i forgot
Is Rogue Galaxy not forgotten? I sure hope not. I'd love a sequel.
I don't consider it forgotten....yet.
Radiata Stories?
Check out my newest video ;)
