The good thing is if you don't need all the power we could always put it in beginner mode I would think that would bring it back down to around stock speed.
Stumpy got the crappy slipper clutch while the Hoss got the bunny hopping beast centre differential after filling with 1 million weight which I recommend for upgrading to for old Stumpy along with the GTR shocks running the blue stripe springs fitted. Don’t forget the wheelie bar 😉👍. Keep up the good work guys 🇬🇧
My MAXX, Rustler, and even the Sledge can bunny hop that’s not a feature worth using just because it’s harsh on the drivetrain. Stampede will get a center differential, and GTR shocks for sure.
@@redbanditracinggot mine from the store with the conversion you did. They said the Hoss 4x4 VXL is discontinued, it is indeed out of stock on the Traxxas website too now. Since I read the Stampede BL-2S is actually a near Hoss but with the HD parts. So I liked their offer for the electronics to be swapped. I did not get the 10t pinion, I am new to this hobby, what is this going to do for wear, tear, speed etc? I will add a fan to the ESC, and maybe start with a heatsink for the motor. Or should I already add the fan to the heatsink directly too?
VS speed and backflips. I’ve already put the vxl in my bls2s also. I left the stock spur and pinion in it. I’ve been wondering the same but I don’t know anyone with a hoss. I just snapped my driveshaft yesterday after 3 runs.
There are 3692 motors. 2000kv plus. Could feed them 4000 watts of 8s if you want to go nuts with it. Might blow the rubber apart. But shouldn't just shred it all right away.
@redbanditracing you want to triple back flip? I want it so fast and powerful it hits the ankle and Knocks off the shoe!!! No but it is mostly for like Bunny hop tricks and speed runs. Just saying the platform can do it. Plus sometimes you can get a motor for really cheap.
The stampede has the 540xl I believe not the velineon 3500.. bought the vxl version today..😎 but probably pretty close overall on 3s.. great video man!
@redbanditracing I got ya.. I guess I was thinking of the box stock stampede being the 540xl not the velineon 3s.. but would make sense they recommend that for the bl-2s.. 😎🤘🏽
I have this same conversion done to my car too because I wanted the Hoss but it seems to be discontinued. Very curious to see a follow up video in a while about how it is holding up after a while. Hope to see it in some time.
Definitely want to see a vs' and wish seen this video a few days ago. I have the same truck with the gtr shocks, metal center driveshaft and just ordered a hoss system thinking i'd be the better upgrade over this setup but we'll see
There isn't alot of information for me to make a complete decision, but I chose the Hoss system due to that's what Traxxas used in the Hoss, I figured there is a reason they went that route. Maybe it will be able to provide more torque at lower temps due to the bigger size motor and if the motor goes bad in my maxx I can steal it from this for the time being. I also thought since the Hoss has a gearing chart I could reference that as to the velenion system don't. Wait to see you do a vs video to see if there is a difference but appears how your's drove they are both going to be adequate
Honestly it’s whatever motor you wanna use is cool. Traxxas hasn’t made a lot of sense lately haha, still pondering why they made a Stampede that’s a replica of the HOSS. Versus will be fun, hopefully it doesn’t ran long enough to complete it.
I would have bought a hoss if they were available so I figured I'd get the stampede since it's available with the heavy duty included then upgrade the power system to have the best of both worlds with speed and the durability of the new heavy duty suspension included. I also wanted something I could let my 3 year old nephew try and drive to get him into it at an early age and tone it down with training mode
Yes, the stock pinion is a 10T, the Rustler uses a 11T. It actually might help keep temps down as well. We’re also going to add a heat sink once it starts getting hot out again.
@@joshthomas4225 I tighten the spring all the way and then back it off half a turn. The owners manual says to go a full turn but I like to run my slippers a tad tight.
@@redbanditracing What pinion did you go with? I’m building a stamp VXL from the ground up piece by piece. I will be running the sledgehammer tires and 3500 KV motor. 54 on the spur. I’m thinking 9 or 10 tooth?
Anyone make good aluminum shock towers I jumped mine once to hard and destroyed the shock tower holes where it mounts to the diff. Replaced the diff with an aluminum one from cobra, but they haven’t released there clipless body aluminum shock towers so I’m stuck lol I plastic welded the old shock tower back together to make it usable and had to add some shimming cause the aluminum diff gap is a little wider than the stock plastic one.
Upgrading parts to aluminum just creates more issues with each upgrade. Diff covers are now aluminum, so now what is connected to those diffs becomes the next weak point, and on and on. We bash very hard, and have never damaged a shock tower like that. We always clean the cars, then spray them down with WD40, and pat dry. It helps the plastic become more playable.
@ if I could send you a picture of my shock tower I would I was blown away that I broke it but a 6ft step up jump at 30miles an hour gets you pretty high in the air.
Let’s see the hoss vs the hot rod stampede!
Thanks been trying to decide if I want to do this to mine this will be a big help 👍
The only thing I changed on mine so far was the Camber links it took a lot of the wobble out of the wheels
We will also upgrade those links, it does get the death wobbles.

Would love to see it, bro. Thanks for the links, also. I will be doing the exact same upgrade to my stampede very shortly.
Awesome, that motor works great for this setup. I would definitely go down to a 10T pinion, it did get a little warm. I’ll be adding a heat sink/fan

thanks for the video i did same thing to my stampede 4x4 i witch with my other stampede had vxl and now its faster and fun to drive
versus baby
Turning TSM off on speed runs helps a lot...you dot hav to fight w it so much!! Great vid!!
Yeah you gotta always turn that off, it makes the car wobble a lot. The stampede was wobbling most likely because of the plastic camber links
Versus!
I put vxl in and every time I had a 3s battery in, something breaks, without crashing lol, just broke plastic center drive shaft.
Looks like we’re gonna need the aluminum center driveshaft.
Stampede vs Hoss speed run and doughnuts

Haha there’s literally no point in that. Even with the 3500 is controllable. A 540XL would be a lot of low end torque, anything more is crazy.

Totally agree, motors aren’t that expensive.

The Stampede 4X4 BL-2S upgrade option is the VXL 3S 3500. We installed that motor because it is the option for this model.

Need a lcg chassis and a brace bar
I can use the default pinion that came with it with this motor swap out?

When I converted mine to 3s I upgraded to a hardened 14t pinion.
I tried the stock pinion(10T) with the default spur and the spur gear is just getting chewed on one side so I'm trying to make adjustments.

My mini revo had a death wobble out of the box and after awhile it cleared up idk what it was
Having TSM on will most definitely cause a death wobble.
Sorry if already asked but what gearing did you go with? 54 on the spur but what pinion?
Yes we stayed with a 54T Spur

Currently thinking about doing this same Upgrade to my stampede. Have you had any issues with it? What other parts did you need to change out?
Everything you need is in that video, same for Slash/Stampede/Rustler.
would a traxxis 3s velineon brushless power system fit in the traxxis stampede bl-2s so you can run 3 s
This video is exactly for that, you can either install the 3500 or the 540XL Velineon.
Awsome thank you great content
What device are you using to test your speed. I'm new to RC and looking to get one.
We use the GNSS Performance Analyzer. It works great for speed runs. If you get one you can also measure how high/far you jump with the RC Gears app

I started up grading mine. However, something has happened. Traxxas is now selling an upgraded Stampede for $100.00 more. Thoughts?
It’s a good deal, you’ll get the Extreme HD kit, 540XL motor. Which the motor/ESC alone is over $150+/-
@@redbanditracing It is to late for me to go back. I guess that maybe I should have waited. Oh well!
Can I use my stampede remote?
You can use any TQ or TQI remote, if you have a TSM receiver you will want the TQI controller.
What are the power tools you use?
Ryobi, you can get them almost any hardware store for $20-$30. They work great for this type of work.

Add some mini weights that's what I did the weights you put in a real tire on your real life cars rims
Put a maxx motor and esc in it
The 3500 is the upgrade motor for this vehicle. Adding more power won’t make that big of a change, it will just make it more uncontrollable.
