Traxxas X-MAXX 8s | WATCH Before Buying This Servo (( 2085R ))
Yes, do not buy this servo from Traxxas! After several calls to Traxxas, sending my parts in for repair, and still having the same issues. There is a reason why the 2085R has been on back order for months, and they do not want to admit why. For some reason, if the truck takes a small hit or bump (shock), the power is being cut off. As you’ve probably seen from other RUclips channels, this servo causes electrical issues. It was a big headache, but the X-MAXX is back up and running. We did order the Savox 2290SG Monster Servo and will be showing how to install it along with the Hot Racing Servo Adapter.

Hey everyone, in this video we took out the Traxxas MAXX and our ARRMA Gorgons out for some racing and bashing! The Traxxas MAXX handled great and remained unbroken throughout. The Gorgons were very fun to mess around with and drive around. They are very durable and have a little bit of speed to them. With the red Gorgon, it seems we burnt out the motor and will be looking to either replace it ...

The Traxxas #2085R servo puts out 650 ounces of torque. Unfortunately, there was an issue. I believe the servo may have shorted the receiver. We sent the servo, receiver, and ESC back to Traxxas. We will update everyone on the repair, and we will definitely be taking the X-MAXX out for a bash!! Below is a link to where you can purchase this servo. Traxxas has been out of stock for a while, but ...

The Kraton suffered a bent rear axle, but survived the bash finally. As for the X-MAXX….it seems that last hit took it out. After further inspection and tear down, there were no damaged gears. The issue seems to be with the motor or ESC. After driving it a bit more, it has excessive cogging. We will be sending in the motor and ESC to Traxxas for warranty repairs. We will update everyone on what...

Hey everyone, in this video we took out the Kraton, Rustler, and the Hoss for some heavy bashing! All 3 cars have been known to break for us, so let’s see which car survives! All 3 cars are always a blast to go out and bash! Regarding the Kraton, I think we are almost out of the woods with the constant breaking. Outside of the drive cups, I don’t see a lot more parts being a problem for us. If ...

I thought so to I have had my servo since June July and it's never skipped a beat
Thank you for the update
Sup my guy. I am back, I’m not here to trash talk or say “TOLD YOU SO”. Traxxas won’t give you a refund, I would ask them for store credit if I was you. It’s a win win since you can get a refund from Amazon too I hope. I get your frustration. My truck was pulled apart for 2 months as I waited for new servos every time they burned out. Let me tell you about my issue and what happened. I posted a part 2 video of the resolution. My ESC would flash green like yours spontaneously although I never thought much about that since the blinking would go away, then come back and go away… Traxxas replaced my ESC, I am not sure if they replaced my receiver too because it’s something that remained clean so I couldn’t tell if it was swapped. They also replaced my servo.. they had my truck so they worked on it themselves and returned it serviced. ESC does not blink anymore. So far my truck has not broken, I am on day 3 of using it. I am waiting for it to break with mild abuse but it hasn’t. I believe there must have been an issue with a certain batch of ESCs where it over volts the servos .. that’s all I can think of. Sorry it happened to you too. You’re lucky you got it from Amazon because they have very lenient refund policies.. traxxas won’t refund hence why I kept replacing them, I bought directly from them so I had to keep sending it back.. $150 is alot for me. Best of luck on your search for a servo man. You should check out the perfect pass Xmaxx servo. They sell out quick but restock often, just set a reminder on their site. They recently ran out. Also… to stop the play on your motor fan, scoot it back. The motor has screws on the back that align with the heat sink and kind of “locks it in”. www.perfectpassrc.com/products/perfect-pass-monster-t-servo-for-1-6-cars-insane-speed-power-accuracy
I won’t say too much about the first callback to Traxxas but it did NOT go well. Ended up I said sending the servo back to Amazon. Ordered a new servo from Local hobby shop, SAVOX Monster Torque. I will be replacing the ESC with a HobbyWing as well. After this last interaction, I’m seeing HobbyWing all around 😉
@@redbanditracing same here, I always hear the name Hobbywing. If anything else breaks.. I will check them out. Best of luck man.. and scoot that motor heat sink back.. it stops the play haha. Peace.
Traxxas support is horrible stop using there crap servos same thing happened to me with my Maxx and that servo Everytime I flipped over just like your x Maxx delayed response then it would burn out receiver steering channel after it happens a few times then you have to replace receiver and servo and no more problems since I stopped using that servo there something that shorts the receiver out which causes poor voltage of around 3volts output after get a reefs servo never have problems with them
I have a hobbywing max6 on 7.4 volts
Just watched the video the problem isn't the receiver or the servo. It's the esc there isn't enough power for it to run the servo
My Xmaxx ESC would burn out the servos. They replaced it and so far I have not had any issues. I first thought it was the servo itself but now I believe the ESC is a problem too.
Someone should tell Traxxas cause they can’t figure it out and it’s there electronics.
That would also make sense, but that would also be pretty funny considering Traxxas hasn’t fixed the issue.
@@redbanditracing yeah, I’m sure their getting returns at a high rate, they’ll find out the hard way. Wish they listened to us customers.
I was told you set up binding receiver power first then remote set bind and it worked for me
I believe there a lot more issues with Traxxas electronics than we know.
They don’t care if your not happy they want ur money and you bought there car lmao
Bought 2 of these last week. Both of them are going back
Definitely go with SAVOX or Perfect Pass!
Perfect pass so far has been working well for me. I did the one that's made for the xmaxx. It's fast and has a good amount of torque.
Have you thought about the 2085X servo from Traxxas. That is the one I have in my XMaxx and it works really good with no issues.
I have, the only issue is for the cost of the 2085X you can get something with twice the torque. We’re going to start venturing away from Traxxas Electronics.
I just run the stock servo. I did have the original fail once. Got a replacement cheap off Jennys. No issues since. At least for people on a budget.
I may have misheard you but channel 1 and 2 are for your servos if you have anything else plugged in there u will have issues
There are two CH1, both can be for your servo. CH2 is for your ESC/Speed Control.
I put that servo in my XRT and so far I haven’t had any issues, I was thinking about getting an aftermarket servo, but did not find one that fit direct, without an adapter. I also do agree with customer service being hit or miss, I’ve had them give me free esc replacements, no problem, and other times they have made me pay the 50%.
I’ll be putting up a video on the SAVOX install, and if it fits the XRT the same way I’ll be sure to mention it.
No one should ever buy ANY traxxas electronics besides maybe their light kits. They’re garbage.
Haven’t had issues like this before, starting to agree.
@@redbanditracing let’s not jump that bandwagon haha, this was a first for me too. I still think their products are top tier. One issue like this makes me more weary to research before pulling the gun on something expensive.
I've never had good luck with the traxxas electronics and I've dealt with the traxxas support and it is terrible. Me personally I just ditch all the traxxas electronics whenever I get a traxxas vehicle. I would just get the Perfect Pass Monster servo for the XMaxx. Its $170 but go watch his video on it on here. His channel name is Raz Shifrin. Hopefully I spelled his name right. Im going to be getting that servo for mine when I get it. I'm going to be getting my XMaxx next month.
messing with wiring and stuff is what keeping me away from getting a RC LOL
It’s not too bad, you can always message us with questions.
Agfrc servos. Traxxas makes some great RC but their electronics are trash.
Savox servo was my favorite option for my bashers
If the esc detects any kind of throttle or brake from the transmitter it will flash green. Normally I would a apply a small amount of throttle or brake normally fixes it. If not then I just re-calibrate my esc. I think its because when dust gets in the controller it starts messing with the neutral position. Its very sensitive. Its weird but once I figured out why it flashed I just kept running it as so. As far as loss of power, I have no idea! Very strange and disappointing.
I’ve noticed only on the X-MAXX you need to give it throttle so the ESC sees input from receiver to work. Weird
If you can get the Raz Shifrin Perfect pass servo for the Xmaxx I would highly recommend it I have a vid with it and it works great and the nice thing with the lower bec on a Traxxxas esc it still has a ton of torque and speed. The customer service sucks mail in parts at your cost to be checked. My maxx slash was all over and they were clueless. A viewer pointed out the light on the receiver was red meaning tqi was off how did they not know that. They told me it was a high skill model, and I should use 4s!!! I replaced that weak servo and servo saver and wow it drives great no more wondering or uncommanded turns making it flip.
You should have gone for an Aftermarket Servo and adapter the first time itself.......
Always gotta give the manufacturer the benefit before trying aftermarket.
@@redbanditracing Good luck
@@redbanditracing Traxxas electronics are actually not that good.....
I’ve replaced my servos with Perfect Pass Monster T servo. These are the best and exact fit. No modifications or brackets needed.
If I only needed a servo or two I’d go with perfect pass, but we have 6 RC’s that need servos and that gets pricey haha.
@ not much more than the Traxxas one. $169. I think. I have on all 4 of my XMaxxs
I just ordered one to have for when either my XRT or MAXX goes out .... and if/when I have to replace it will order another to have on hand
Not everything is rosy.........
Get the perfect pass Monster servo direct fit too! 💪🙏💙
That's what I bought.. its great so far
Key Fulcrum 75kg XMaxx servo is the only way to go, I’ve had mine since they came out about 1.5yr ago & it’s been flawless…. Fast, super strong & NO adapter needed
You need to set your neutral position to stop the green light from flashing 👍
It was already calibrated, the X-MAXX system needs to see a response from the receiver to go steady green. Only the X-MAXX I’ve seen have that kinda delay when starting.
Why don't you just connect that servo to another one of your Traxxas cars' receiver/ESC and see if it still has problems. All Traxxas servos are 6 volts anyways so any 4-8s ESC should work. The 3S probably won't have enough amps. Obviously you can't install it but I mean just a bench install. Also, that shorted temp wire could have fried something else. One time I had a shorted fan wire that smoked and prevented the ESC front even turning on until I noticed the short and fixed it. And another time some lighting kit wires got stuck in the pinion/spur (very unlucky) and it fried my receiver and servo but my ESC was fine. Electronics can break in weird ways...
Funny you say that, I had the fan wire in the MAXX do the same thing. I think we’re gonna start going to HobbyWing, which will also let us increase the BEC for other servos.
@@redbanditracing I'll be honest dude. I really like Traxxas' stuff and I thought "their electronics were fine" for quite a long time. And truth be told, they are fine. But... Once I tried one of the new Hobbywing G2 sensored motor/esc combos... Traxxas electronics seem like kind of a joke. I ended up buying 2 more of the new G2 systems. So now I have a Max 5, a Max 6 and a Max 8. You will not want to use Traxxas electronics after using a sensored Hobbywing system. I mean the stock Team Corally electronics are amazing, basically just rebranded Hobbywing stuff.
I know u guys dont use aftermarket parts a lot, id go with Hobbywing and avoid Traxxas and there terrible support
I'm still new, but it sounds like Traxxas has a lot of electrical issues. And they tossed your servo away that you bought elsewhere??? Thats BS man hope it all gets fixed up
I cant stand traxxas electronics replace the esc with a hobbywing man its way better
its your esc 100%bad esc is going to burn out your receiver, bad receiver is going to burn out your servo but traxxas servo is garbage and is going to burn out anyways
I have seen that happen, in this case the Servo was cutting out the power. Went ahead and installed stock servo, did some bashing and no issues. I’m guessing this is why those servos have been out of stock for months.
I believe this comment to be accurate based on my recent experience.
I've always had issues with traxxas support and they're terribly rude on the phone and treat you like you're stupid in my experience. I've been doing rc for over 10 years and I can tell you it's sad to see the only brand I run be this terrible... Great videos keep up the amazing work!!!
Thank you for the comment, and you’re 💯 correct. I’ve had better experiences with Horizon Hobby support lately than Traxxas even though it takes a while to get through.
I am a Traxxas fanboy and they have gone downhill in customer service in the past two three years
Thanks for the info
Aw man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I was tempted on buying that same servo but held back and got myself a perfect pass servo that was made to fit straight into the X-Maxx. It was bloody expensive, but the performance is awesome. Hopefully your problems get resolved soon brother 🙏
Got a Savox Monster Servo on the way, that should fix the issues. The perfect pass is great from what I hear, but pretty expensive.
@redbanditracing Hell yea dude, and agreed. Very expensive, but the performance is crazy, even at just 6V. I paid $270 shipping included, and another $90 from its fees since it was from UPS. So overall, it cost me $360 😂
I just put a 1/10 size servo in mine.. 38 bucks from gxservo hobby.. its called ak70. And its flawless.. it even comes with spare gears if u ever need to replace them
That’s cheap, I’ll check that out thank you.
Dang I just put one in. I haven’t had any issues yet. I like it so far but I haven’t had issues. Hopefully I won’t.
I’ve been hearing lately other have had their servos cutting out. Hopefully your is fine
@ I’ll let you know if it does.
Had a summit over 1500 into it and 3 vxl summits. They went their directions and I had seen a Snap On Black XMAXX for 600 used and jumped on it. No batteries only some old 1800 3s so got 2 smc 9500 cobalts.. batteries came in yesterday. Wish me luck..
Sounds awesome!! Let us know how it goes
That's hilarious 😂

Very nice work
dang it of course they stopped making the vxl version of the car apparently they were easy to work on and very light which would've been perfect for me do you have any other Rc that's kinda similar fun to drive but easy to work on and light ? I'm in a wheelchair btw lol
Yeah we’re hoping they bring it back but it’s not looking good. I think you’d love the Jato 4x4 that just came out. The VXL model will be around January 2025. BANDIT XL-5 is still a good buggy
bye bye differential 😢
Haters will say it’s reversed😂
Top shelf 4s basher for sure. You guys did a magnificent job covering everything. 👍👍🏆🏆
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
I'm a big Arrma fan and the Gorgons look fun and durable but the MAXX really has some good punch. It looks like a super fun basher for sure. Great job on the video and I love the track. Very nice!
ok so my Russler vxl brushless has something wrong with it so I took it to a shop and the guy told me it was the slipper clutch. he sold me the pieces (which were overpriced) and I replaced everything he told me to (which was all in the video oh and thanks btw it was very helpful as far as putting it back together) and it still has the same issue. so mad. and he upgraded me to aluminum parts then I saw this, he said it cant melt. I am very new to the whole rc thing
Installing the center diff is much better than the slipper clutch. You can fine tune how much slippage you want by changing the fluid weight.
