So many styles of chili you would never be able to cook them all. I have made some Texas style, no beans or tomatoes, that would make you cry. And i have made regular as well. The taste testers were not happy the one time I cooked "not-meat". Steve comes across some great stoves. The first Coleman I bought when I moved up here was a 400, I think. With the original funnel. Thank you for sharing your meal with us, Chris. Stay safe and stay warm
I've never heard of chili without beans...interesting. Watching you and Bear eating Texas Pete all the time got me to try it. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I'm now buying it by the gallons off of Amazon. LOL! Good influence or bad...only my doctor knows!🤣🤣

Hell yeah. I like both chili with beans and no beans. It's all good. Light beer is better than non Alcoholic. You need a twelve pack to get a buzz. Stay healthy Chris.
lol them Texans are the ones that say no beans in chili . this was a perfect video brother right to the end . food looked good proper camp fire type of meal . dang buddy not only do you have beer stumps you have beer trees . lol . any way great video always enjoy watching you cook . BIG 10 OUT OF TEN STARS !!! . take care brother camp safe .
I still love that set up you have there. I like the beans too. It needs real beef though. Hotdogs work too. lol. Ohhh my goodness. As soon as I typed hotdog, you put one in there. Lol. That’s cool. My mom used to make something like that when I was a kid. I always loved them. Too bad I’m not there.. I’d help you eat it. Lol.
I couple of years ago I went to a chili contest held by a local organization in town. I think there was about 30 different chilies. The verity was pretty crazy. It really opened my eyes on how much you could do in the chili realm.
Way to chili up some chili dogs at camp Brother! Sure it was nomolicious. I also am a fan of beans in my chili. Let the haters hate! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Thank you for the video! Excellent! It looks like that Coleman stove was perfect for the use of the mess kit. Often times, due to the thinner characteristic of a mess kit, folks accidently scorch their food when cooking on them. Not to mention, the mess kit is much harder to clean. However, you did it just right with the low simmer technique. tks
I’m smiling while reading your comments.... I learned about cooking in the ol’ mess kit the hard way...... I burned, in fact, scorched, beyond recognition my first or second meal in that thing! 😂🤣😂
I'm going to have to figure out that snap your fingers and it's cut up trick. That will save time! I need to try some of that vegetable beef stuff. I've heard good and bad about it. Hope the clear cut doesn't get to close. Chili has beans, I prefer pork and beans. That is a cool Coleman stove. No meal is complete without Texas Pete, Lol. Looks delicious Chris! Now I have to try it. Take care, my friend 🤝
The land I get to play on is 100 acres. My camping area is 1/2 mile from the main road, I purposely made it close to the front so I can deer hunt the rest of the property... the land next door is also 100 acres and provided “sound protection” ... they clear cut the whole 100 acres and built a house and put a couple horses and about 500 dogs over there! Kinda kidding but it sure sounds like that when they all get yappin’!!!! 🤣😂🤣
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors , maybe some brush and bushes will grow back next summer and cut down on some of the noise. One of our neighbors had a dog kennel, of hound dogs about thirty of them. We were far enough away that they didn't bother us. But my mother in law's cousin was renting a house here on the farm, close to the neighbor with the kennel. I didn't have much use for her, always wanting me to do something for her all the time. Finally had to tell her no more flavors from me. Of course she was kinda teed at me. Every time I would think about, I would get a game call and get the hounds at the kennel fired up. Needless to say she didn't like it. Some how it was around midnight when I decided to play with my call. Thank goodness she finally moved off, Lol 👊
Well, that is an interesting campfire chili with the veggie burger. I sure need to get one of those Busch trees, wonder how long it takes to make fruit...lol. I picked up a little old single burner Coleman stove that I will be refurbishing. Cheers Chris
Every so often I'll leave out the beans .. but not very often.. I love just about any kind of beans.. Would put them in my cereal if I wasn't afraid of being committed...hahahaha
Ahhh the age old question. Does chili have beans or not? Well I say I need a bowl with beans and a bowl without beans to be able to give my opinion. That is a great little stove Chris.
I tried fresh tomato chili today too, Chris! Yummy! I don't have an opinion about fake meat yet but I am a fan of beans in chili. I have to admit that I can skip the meat if the chili has lots of tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, black beans & red kindey beans and lots of flavour Eat what you got, I say.
The fake beef wasn’t too bad.... I had a lot of other flavors mixed in... I should’ve tasted it by itself. I will next time, I still have three patties.
You are 100 % on " It's your chili or your steak " so you can cook it as you see fit. I rarely cook my chili or stew the same way twice and if it's chili I like it. Yours looked delicious and so did the hotdogs. Looking for more good camp cooking !

It’s still higher.... higher in sodium too! I don’t really believe it’s a “healthy” alternative but more of a lifestyle or dietary thing to those who eat it. I was just curious because I never tried it before.... it was good. I’m glad you are a bean guy too!
My brother doesn't eat meat. It's odd. I tried some fake burgers here and there. They are not as bad as you would think but I like the real thing. I like black beans in my chili but the wife is traditional with kidneys. Any bean works for me.
We have cincinnati chili which has cinnamon and chocolate in it. It's different than any other chili that you have ever eaten. Most people that are not from our area don't like it.
I eat chili all the time with beans and we also put potatoes cubed up. It thickens the chili as the potatoes cook and tbh with old timers using dried beans and taters, I'm surprised more people don't do it. Also lentils could be used and they cook fast too.
My wife makes tacos using morning star non-meat and they are really good. i like some veggie burgers but not hot dog. You can't fake a hot dog. I like beans in my chili. Looked good, thanks for sharing.
Heck, some people put their chili on top a plate of pasta. I’d say there are no rules for chili making, unless your in Texas. Just beef and spices for that style. Your lunch looked good to me. If you had invited me out I’d have made some cornbread in place of those buns. 🙃 Thanks for to post. Always enjoyable.
I didn't know his name was Carn.. but yeah. I saw that too. He uses that impossible beef. Chili looked pretty good.. and there's nothing wrong with beans. lol Thanks for the video brother
That stuff tastes pretty good Mark. I think it will work good for camp recipes that need ground beef. Looking forward to your Wednesday creation tomorrow!!!!
Just found this video and had a quick question sir. Those metal storage containers. What are they and where can I find some. They look like exactly what I was looking for.
Those containers are vintage Wear-Ever Aluminum “Jack Frosters” Refrigerator/Freezer Boxes, made in the ‘50’s. They are many different sizes and can be found in antique stores and on line. Thanks for watching!
Been hooked on Texas Pete for awhile, thought I could drink it if I wanted. Till I had some spill off my pizza while putting it in my mouth and Texas Pete poured down my throat. Took awhile to catch my breath. ATB to ya. Watching my mom sleep while she's in a manor. I play some cds of old music she likes while she's waiting to die. Use the manor's wifi to check up on everyone's camping cooking.
I know this is going to sound crazy, but our winter temperatures will normally be in the high 30’s to low 50’s. Occasionally we’ll get into the 20’s, but 70’s isn’t unheard of either! AC in the daytime, heater on at night! 🤣😂🤣
I always thought beans were a must in chilli. Whatever anyone wants in their chilli is what they want and that is okay with me. I like several different chilli recipes. I prefer white kidney beans over red. The red just look weird to me. It is too bad there is more noise at your camp now Chris. That is a dandy stove from Steve. They are nice but getting harder to find at decent prices these days. The Coleman fuel stoves work very well in winter cold conditions. You are obviously getting to winter there now if the temps dropped to about 50 degrees from your usual of 150 degrees 😉 That meal sure did look delicious but you scared me for a minute as I thought you weren't going to put Texas Pete on it...........Take care, Mike.
Thanks Jeremy… those are “Wear-Ever Aluminum Jack Frosters”. Good in the freezer, fridge or for transporting stuff in my back back. They were popular before plastic Tupperware took over.
Thanks! Hard to beat good chili... my backpack is an Italian Army Alpini Mountain Backpack from the 80’s. I’ve had it a long time.... maybe 10 years. Definitely worth the $20.00 I paid for it. I did have to swap the shoulder straps for US ones because the original ones were too small for me.
Am surprised that some enterprizing soul hasn't reproduced the old WWll chow kits. They weren't originally designed to be used as cooking kits, but for use as personal plate and pot to receive food prepared in a "field kitchen". Wish I could find some of the old style eating utensils, knife, fork and spoon that were issued, in conjunction of the mess kits.
Heck yeah... that sounds like a deal... was it only the pot, or the whole mountain cook set? The complete set sells for around $50.00 (U.S) last time I checked.
Great looking , if it isn’t suppose to have beans in it then why do the sell Chili Beans ? Lol.. You’re right about the cats..... but...... my cat has issues with tents, tarps and ground-cloths in my backyard. She feels the need to pee on them within minutes of me setting them up! 😂🤣😂
It tasted pretty good, but it was mixed with a lot of other flavors.... i think it’s an acceptable substitute for raw burger when hiking or camping (sometimes) That’s the first time I ever tried it.... Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
We eat beans in our chili but I hate tomatoes so Hannah purée’s them so I can’t see them lol! She tries but she don’t know how yet to cook the farts out of the beans either 😂
Good Vid Chris for a while I thought you were gonna go full veggie, till you produced the hot dog that is, BTW I was wondering those storage boxes you had are they a variation on a Japanese style Bento box or just re purposed containers atb Bill
Hi Bill... Thanks for watching! Those boxes are “Wear Ever Aluminum Jack Frosters” from the 1950’s. I believe they were the pre-Tupperware favorite way to freeze or refrigerate left overs. I never could find out any info on their intended use, bu I have an idea that they may have been used to heat up leftovers as well... from the fridge right to the oven, but I’m not sure. I only use these for transporting food in my pack. The jury is still out on the whole aluminum/cooking thing I think, but those Japanese folks use ‘em all the time don’t they? I wonder if their boxes were inspired by these old Jack Frosters (???)
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors actually the 'modern' bento boxes are stainless and come with steel, wood or food grade plastic with a seal depending on what you fancy
Beans work for me!😉👍 I don't think that I've ever eaten a chili hotdog, at least, not that I can remember anyhow. Though I would be putting plenty of cheese on mine also!😎😉🧀👍 Fake beef though???😒🙄😳😬 If you start eating tofu chili, I'm unsubing to ya!😉😋
When you said that it’s fake meat I almost stop watching thinking I was on the wrong channel or that a vegan hacker just spoiled your channel 🤣🤣🤣🤣 To me chili comes with beans and Chili con carne with meat😉 that stove works just perfect and luckily you add an hotdog to your meal😆👊👍✌️
For all the people complaining about the lack of beans.... I once added pineapple to my chili. I was in high-school in the 1980s and trying to be creative. It was wrong but kinda not so bad. Hahaha!!!

It tasted pretty good, but it was mixed with a lot of other flavors.... i think it’s an acceptable substitute for raw burger when hiking or camping (sometimes) That’s the first time I ever tried it.... Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Should carry a squeeze tube of tomato paste to add in with a little of that beer
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We eat beans in our chili but I hate tomatoes so Hannah purée’s them so I can’t see them lol! She tries but she don’t know how yet to cook the farts out of the beans either 😂
As always enjoyed the video. Not sure about the meat LoL
😂😂😂
@@CarolinaChrisOutdoors actually the 'modern' bento boxes are stainless and come with steel, wood or food grade plastic with a seal depending on what you fancy
looked pretty tasty to me..
Ha Ha Ha!!!!!! I’m cooking turkey/tofu/veggie bacon next, just for you! 😂🤣😂
I love beans in my chili. I wouldn't have it any other way.. unless someone served it to me without beans of course. You know.
HA! Yes, I do know! Thanks for watching Ron... I hope your doing ok... don’t try to rush things!
I'd argue that true chili has to have beans in it, with out belongs as a dressing for hot dogs.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dude found the wild beer bush. I didn't think that existed in real life.
Usually Sasquatch gets them before I do...I was lucky on that day. Thanks for watching!
I live chili but I love it even more without beans
Chilli with beans is the only way to go
Yep... I gotta have a few beans in my chili 👍🏻
to me a proper chili HAS beans !!!
Hahaha!!!
Beans in chilli HellToTheYeah Brother veggie beef well i guess it will do LOL anyway its edible right .
Yep... it was edible. It actually tasted pretty good but shoe leather probably tastes good when boiled up with onions, jalapeños and Texas Pete! 😂🤣😂
A mess kit is not a cooking kit.
It's made to go through a mess line at a base camp where the food is already cooked and just dished out.
Ok... thanks for that.
Bonito sombrero
¡Gracias!
