Cool runnings Arturo. Life is like a box of chocolate cause you never know what you'll get with the next piece. (Forrest Gump) Once one another wise man said (can't remember whom) Eact piece of chocolate is a little piece of bliss, a little piece of rested moment in time, so very insignificant in the grandeur of things but so very noteworthy in the moment. A round o judges are a very small and in the sceme of things a very insignificant piece of chocolate and far from the best one. - Another way to look at it is: the significance is not what these few people claims to not note but what the score of other people note of good... 😉

And do you think the judges are ever bribed?…Not meaning that you should that, but perhaps there are manipulations in the back room or corporations behind some of the coffees.

An idea for next year. Hold a coffee tasting at your shop next year and ask native Panamanians to rate 3, 4, or 5 different coffees. You might even get the local paper to cover it. Ask Arturo to give a brief presentation for each coffee.
That gives Arturo some live practice, provides input to help you select your coffee for next year's contest, and gives you some good PR for the shop.

I like this idea, except the "local Panamanians" part. I think they may be experiencing some anti-gringo bias. If the industry is shutting them out, perhaps they should create their own blind taste test competition. In the end, there is no "exterior validation" like worldwide sales.

I agree with this comment! Set up your own Boquete judging. Duplicate everything about the Panama City competition. Record HD footage, from different angles, of everything. That way, you all can go back over the recordings and critique what you did right and also find the errors. For the month before, on the same day each week, you roll play the competition in Boquete. That'll be at least 4 dress rehearsals of exactly what happens in the Panama City competition. You have judges, maybe different each week, that help you find your flaws, polish your presentation, and make it routine by the time the 5th week, and actual competition happens. This way it has become routine for Arturo. He's polished and the presentation is polished. He can recite and execute everything in his sleep. All the bugs are worked out far in advance.
GET A FULL NIGHTS SLEEP BEFORE THE ACTUAL COMPETITION! SLEEP IS ESSENTIAL!!! 👍
I don't know who can enter and who cannot, but think about dressing up Kaylee and having her train to do the presentation. Bring sexy into play! Switch it up. Bring a fresh new approach. Just maybe someone, or the group of judges, are biased for some unknown reason against Arturo. I hope that's not the case but it couldn't hurt to flip the script and try something completely new! After all, I hate to say it, but whatever it is you're doing obviously isn't working. Kinda futile, IMO, to go back and do the exact same thing with the same person. Sexy sells and Kaylee certainly has that! 😉
Whatever you do, just remember, what you've been doing isn't working so start fresh and put your noggins together with something all new. Best of luck everyday! Love the channel!!! 😎🤘🏆

I didn't want to say this before the competition, but it's been going through my head for some time. I've had a feeling that this competition is more about who you know, family legacies and politics not the quality of coffee. The main thing is providing customers with high quality coffee and fair trade with your growers. Which you do with a 5 star rating.

I agree with these comments that the familial, political, and financial connections are what matters most in this “contest.” Even native Panamanians say so.
It breaks my heart to see Arturo and you two sacrifice so much time and energy in this competition over the last 3 years.
Your coffee is outstanding (my boyfriend and I both drink it) and it’s a slap in the face for the judges to say that it tastes like Starbucks or worse.
Please don’t waste any more of your time and talents on this bogus endeavor.

Panama is so simple that innovative ideas are not well received or understood, I am not a coffe lover but I am a great competitor, and you guys have earned my admiration and respect, I always say "Go simple, go beyond" you guys rock!! ... After living in Hawaii I can attest to the local bias. It's a bit of self protection and promotion. Heck, I live in the South in the US and they can get outright nasty abt outsiders from the North. One has to consider these biases and if dings against you aren't part of that and really having nothing to do with your coffee or Arturo. Head up and congrats on your spirit and desire to do best by the local people of Panama. All of you are an inspirations & so loved.

My thoughts, exactly... after their initial loss over 'details'. How many decades have proud, hard working, local coffee growers and brewers been handing down their knowledge from generation to generation competing against each other in this contest?
A couple of gringos can just move into their territory and beat them at their own game, within a few years? I don't think so.
I doubt that the clique appreciated their growers being 'bribed' to sell their beans outside the 'community', either.

This is a video about the importance of taking a closer look at what's really important. You don't have to be "the best" at anything to succeed abundantly and happily in life. That's one thing you're exploring by living a simple life in Panama, and you can continue that exploration with your coffee business. You don't have to have coffee that someone else proclaims is "the best" in order to have a successful coffee business. You can relax and know that what you have now is ENOUGH! What a wonderful thing to recognize!

It’s not a rigged competition you know what he’s doing wrong? He is over working himself to the max, I’m in nursing school and I use to stay up until 3am to go over everything over and over and over again, at some point I snapped and hit a wall, I now stop all school work at 9pm and I get A’s in all subjects, he needs to stop pushing so hard, one it will make him sick and two your brain is done after 12-14 hours out of the day. He needs to make sure he eats well and rests. He’s always jacked up on coffee ☕️ I believe in him he’s been trying for years but it may sound impressive being up all hours of the night, he’s really just disadvantaging himself. Take this as someone who’s seeing from the outside of this situation. Praying for the people in the accident 🙏🏽🙏🏽 He needs to stop, refresh, and plan to take care of himself during the next competition. Little mistakes is because he’s fatigued. It doesn’t include staying up all night to fix them. Take this advice from a health care professional he needs rest and he needs at least 8 hours of no caffeine. ❤ I will be here next year to see his win once and for all.

Random thoughts about the coffee competition in Panama:
    - What kind of coffee tasting competition uses a ridiculous criteria such as what is or is not decorating the counter as a factor in deciding which coffee is best?
    - Arturo needs to get more sleep. You can't do your best work staying up into the wee hours on the eve of a competition (too caffeinated?).
    - If none of the judges identified the flavors in the coffee Arturo was suggesting it had, then IMHP there could be a problem with Arturo's palate.
    - working with a partner who can confirm flavors in the coffee or some kind of peer review is a good idea

Just relax, enjoy your life, and enjoy what you're doing with it! How many other young adults have traveled as much as you have? Please give Arturo our love, and tell him he did an awesome job! Not everyone likes the same kind of coffee, so maybe the judges had a bad time after tasting so many DIFFERENT kinds of coffee, so they couldn't tell the difference by the time they got to Arturo! I spent 35 years in Sales and Marketing. Listening to your feedback from the Judges it reminded me that your perception versus the Judges perception might be the issue. In other words. When we did Marketing Survey's we took what the Company thought was good and took it to the Customers and Experts to actual judge what we were thinking of doing. Lots of times what we or the Company we were working for thought was right was not right at all. It is always hard to judge your own product because you are always going to be a little bit slanted in your own perceptions of your product. I would find outside individuals with Coffee tasting experience to judge your products and give you real feedback. Listen to what they say and apply those changes accordingly to what you are presenting at the Competition. One thing I can tell you that with even 35 years of experience in my field, that I was not always right. Even when I was at the top of my game, there was still room for outside feedback and improvement to move to the next level. Good Luck!

A moment of honesty...every time, Arturo has been nervous almost to the level of panic. Everytime, he has not slept. And, everytime, that nervous energy has been obvious. He's competing against younger cuties...and, much as it annoys me, being young and good looking wins.
For the next competition, all practice needs to stop a minimum of 24 hours before the competition. The final 24 hours should be filled only with relaxing and stress reducing activities. Grooming and wardrobe must be immaculate. He needs to go into it looking like he owns the world. If that attempt has the same result, it's time to consider a new actor for the part. He can be the director who guides the next generation (Rodrigo) to victory.

I have lived in Guatemala for 40 years. You need to understand that you and Arturo are foreigners taking on established coffee growers. They and their ancestors have controlled the Panama coffee business for generations and they are not about to let a bearded gringo and a Venezuelan represent Panama to the world. There is too much money involved. It doesn't matter how good your coffee is; they see you as a threat and they are much bigger than you. So, stay safe. About the coffee competition, I have to tell you, panamanians know their coffee. You have been serving mostly your international customers and their taste buds are different. I always tell my coworkers (whom love their Starbucks) that they don't know anything about real coffee. I agree with other commenters - there are many things that you guys can do to improve performance and presentation:
    - Have mock competitions with the public in attendance. This will help him speaking about his product in public. Present multiple varieties of coffee and have people leave honest feedback. Record each presentation so that you can look on it and pick out any imperfections and work upon them.
    - Get adequate sleep leading up to and the night BEFORE the competition (don't stay up too late practicing)
    - It's not just his demonstrations and presentation of your table etc that they will look for, but Arturo's presentation as well - does he look refreshed? Is he dressed in clean, crisp clothes (do not wear the same clothes from the night before, no matter how clean they may appear).
At the end of the day, though, remember that win or lose (we are cheering you on and hoping that you win), you're all still winners in our eyes and we will support you no matter what!

The amount of work that Arturo and your team put into this is impressive. But as a piece of advice, that of course you and Arturo can follow or not, for next time is to try a different mind set. Go as your goal is NOT to win, just to have fun. As all that count is the journey and not the finish line. As you go for 2 days in Panama city to visit an amusement park or something like that and participate to the contest as a secondary goal. And in the end you will have a great experience and not a stressful one. And for Arturo: you ALWAYS go to sleep before a contest to be relaxed, rested and happy 🙂

Oh my gosh you guys!! 😢 Our hearts are broken for Arturo. He is much more than a barista he’s an innovator, an artist .Creating outside the box. The works created by Jackson Pollock, and Pablo Picasso, we’re considered trash, by those who judged art.
Now, if you wish to view pieces created by either of those men, you’ll be 10’ back behind the velvet rope. Stick with the Art of coffee Arturo. Forget the likely biased judges of competition. You’ve already won. Won OUR hearts for sure! Soon, much like a museum, the lines will be out the door to experience your works. Like in Stowe!!! No bad Days our brother. Much Love from Jeff and Diane 🤍Spokane, WA.

Have you ever considered making a calendar out of your thumbnails for your videos? They must bring in the newbies/clicks and I bet a calendar branded with your coffee and farm would sell. You could even make it something that your audience could engage in. Maybe subscribers could submit their favorite thumbnails from your videos and the selection process could be left to a community vote. Engagement and another source of income? Not such a bad idea, I think.

    Hi Guys-
I’ve been a subscriber since you began your journey in Panama. As a matter fact, we talked while my wife and I were down in Panama, but you didn’t have time for us. At any rate, I wanted to give you some friendly advice from a loyal subscriber. Namely, I’d like to recommend that your titles aren’t always doom and gloom, and that you don’t feature Kaley in borderline vulgar poses. Today’s video is one where too much of a good thing is shown, if you catch my drift. People love you for your spirit and the adventure you’re on, and they don’t need to be drawn in by catchy titles or hopeless circumstances. Just be who you are and invite people in.

Jordan shake the negativity and dig deep for positivity. Take what you learn with each defeat and roll it into next years presentation. Maybe review those that are moving on to see what is different. Look in your own backyard for inspiration and guidance. Stand up and do it again. Each step is towards a new start and a new day. Each failure is a new lesson learned. Next time get a hide a key for front door locks and just replace the door and move on. Y’all are not defeated but simply moving up the learning curve. Take a deep breath and relax. We all luv y’all and think your the best.

Eltoro (not sure if that is the correct spelling so sorry if it is not).....Wow! It took only a couple of tries to get your presentation to almost perfection this time. What an achievement! I have watched you the last few years of this competition and honestly you were fabulous. No one in your team should expect a win being a relatively new coffee company. Give yourselves time to let your coffee percolate (lol) and mature. Rushing creates stress and disappointment. Jordan and Kylee, you moved to your farm in Panama to have this very thing. A slower more meaningful life. Do that with your coffee company as well and everything will fall into place. Never give up and slow down and you will make it to the top without a doubt. Great video!
