When I was a kid, we lived on an off grid farm in Wisconsin. We cooked on a wood stove that also heated the house. We made butter, root beer, soap, and grew all are veggies and raised all our own meat. Plus, we had an orchard of everything that grew here. My grandmother only shopped 2 times a year for flour and sugar. I guess that's why I watch. I like to see you fiqure it out.😊

It's lovely that you showed Enrique how to build that pump (I'm very mechanical and even I had never heard of such a thing!), but it's HIS new found knowledge now, and HIS turn to share it with those he loves...and his turn to get to be the "hero". If you go down to "help him", you'd be stealing his thunder and taking away his moment to shine. And worst of all, the domino effect of kindness and gifting that you started with the sharing of YOUR knowledge will be tainted into an unforeseen ego battle that would likely damage your relationship with both those young men, and possibly even the folks in that village. We'd all like to think that a gift is totally free (or it just becomes a "trade") and has no strings, but the joy of spreading the gift is its own reward, and grappling with the ego of that is the lesson attached. Let him have HIS moment to shine...we all need that. Lynn

To separate the cream from the milk, we’d put the milk in a dispenser with a spout at the bottom. Then use the spout to drain out the milk and leave the cream once it’s separated. You can also churn the butter by putting cream in a jar and shaking it. Good that washed the butter to make it last longer. The buttermilk has so many uses.

I grew up on a farm with a dairy. Me and my siblings would sit in front of the TV watching cartoons on Saturday mornings with cream in a glass mayonnaise jar and make butter by rocking the jar back and forth. Took 15-30 minutes and the butter formed into a clump. No clean up like what has to be scraped off of the paddle with a churn.

You can also use a plastic water bottle to make butter. Just fill water bottle about 1/3 bottle with heavy cream and shake vigorously for about 5mins. It's a pretty fun little diy trick.

Awesome. Let me add my rant. I did 9-foot tall house wrap on my tiny home by myself in a wind and rain storm off-grid at 10000' in Colorado last summer. Afterward, I felt so accomplished and when I see all the snow piled up against it this winter, I'm sooo happy I did it. You will be too!! (And I'm always so grateful for a shot across the valley so I can see where I spent a summer high up on the breast of Volcan Baru)

Hey temps are relative! I think our bodies adjust to our climate. I’m in Michigan and it actually got to 57 degrees today. We have a 20 hr tornado watch and had thunderstorms and pouring rain all night non-stop. I’m exhausted! But I just changed clothes because I’m too hot!

When you're making popcorn, add about 3Tbs of sugar and a pinch of salt into the pot right after the corn. Keep shaking until popped so sugar doesn't burn. And you have kettle corn! It's the only way i ever make popcorn. Except occasional Carmel corn. Enjoy!

They mostly use concrete and cinder blocks in Panama. You guys should build similar as Florida. A concrete slab. Then cinder blocks external walls. Then Metal roof structure like they use on houses there. Availability of North American house style building materials is very crucial in Panama. In Panama City they use sheetrock and wood more often on new building. For things like to cover pipes and vent ducks that run along the feeling in the corner of the rooms.
