This is a video about how Goku from Dragon Ball Z changed my entire life in many ways. It covers my discovery of the anime and how Goku's character impacted me as a child.

I think the harsh reality of growing up is feeling like we wanna be Goku as kids, but realizing most of us are Vegeta. And I think coming to love yourself and others the way Vegeta learned to eventually is such an integral part of growing up that DBZ has really helped me with. Great video, can’t wait to see what you do next :)
Thank you Casey! I really appreciate this comment and it’s so true man.

Goku taught me that you can be strong but gentle at the same time. Vegeta taught me to take pride in myself even if people don’t like me. And Piccolo taught me that people are capable of change no matter their past or where they came from.
I love this! It’s so true 🥹

Toonami saved a whole human being. That is amazing.
Toonami is the hero we needed lol.
Not Toonami, Toriyama
Truth. But if Cartoon Network didn’t get experimental. Our country would be doomed 😂😂
My first moment was walking into my parent's room. My dad brought me in and wanted to show me a cool show. Just as I looked Goku and Vegeta unleashed their beam attacks at each other in the Saiyan saga. I'll never forget.
Your dad is an amazing man hahaha. That is probably the most iconic moment in all of DBZ. They've tried to replicated it so many times now but it never hit that level of epic again LOL. soooo good!
I think, when piccolo sacrificed himself for gohan fighting nappa, something in me shifted as a kid.
I think that was the most selfless, chad thing I ever saw at that age, and I knew i wanted to be like him.
Absolutely!! That was such an amazing moment! His character development is one of my favorites
facts, he had beef with goku but decided to save his enemies child
@@batboythecool yeah man. I never seen anything like that out of character before. I didnt understand why he did that when I was a kid but I knew piccolo was different from the rest of the characters. Like inspite of his exterior, he was very honorable and badass. Best anime character hands down period
@batboythecool did you not watch any war movies with your dad?
@@SCHMALLZZZ what does that have to do with this?
I was the same way growing up. I didn't come from a bad family or anything. Martial Arts was a part of my family. I loved fighting the pride of being a good fighter, and the joy of the fight were what led me to violence. It was also my go-to way of solving problems. In a lot of ways, i was like young Goku. Watching him grow up and learn when and wear to apply his gifts helped me to grow too, and by Z, he was an inspiration to use my gifts for good too.
Love this! I did martial arts too and found myself wanting to use them in the wrong way until I saw his character. Love your story man.
There’s so much from dragonball that taught me how to be a better and greater person from being prideful of who you are, being kind and honest, building/creating a circle of people who believe in you as much as believe in them, feeling of loss, second chances, fighting for what’s right, the list goes on and on. Akria taught us all how to be better people and I am grateful for those lessons
Absolutely man. I really appreciate you sharing its impact on you!
Dang its sucks you gone through that. Reminded me of Charlotte when the main character went through a low point in his life and one person came and changed it. But that person that you met was goku. He was the one who changed many people's lifes and gotten you to become the person you are today. I love the community you made and love how you see us as family. We all loved you from within the community you mad and hope other that join will be just as kind.
Not spoiling much of the show if others didn't see it. But people should watch Charlotte.
Love you MLG!
@@WeebOutNow thx dude. I was introduced to toonami when I was 9. And I remember watching kill la kill and when I wanted to watch the last episode aired. And also remember seeing episodes of DBZ kai.
I was at my dad grandpa's place when I wanted to watch the last episode.
I had no idea those shows went to Toonami!
My brother, i may have only just found you but i know how you feel. I used to enjoy hurting othwrs, I would always pick fights and start them. Sometimes they were guys in the nedt grade up somwtimes one grade lower than me. I came from a very abusive background in my younger childhood and i had a lot of anger problems. It was literally DBZ that got me out of that headspace. It took a while and i eventually also went to therapy and surrounded myself with good friends. For the few friends i have now, id happily give my life to help them. Everyone deserves their own redemption arc.

Thanks for sharing your story. We're actually pretty similar, I used to be so full of hate and anger... I thought of everyone around me as tools for me to use and then throw away. The way I saw it, I was just beatingnthem to the punch... it took me a long time to learn that I was wrong. My favorite character used to be Vegeta. I related to his struggle with wanting to be a normal person but ultimately having his "True" self always gnawing at him to be the "Real" him... It took a long time but I found my way with help from people I've met and the influences from fictional characters as well. I didn't relate with Goku at first, I thought of him the same way Vegeta did, as a fool. But I began admiring him Goku, how someone so strong, facing so much adversity, always did it with a smile. I looked up to him so much that I strived to be more like him. I can confidently say I'm heavily influenced by Goku, and in turn, by Akira Toriyama.
Thank you for sharing your story bro! It’s been amazing to see how many people Toriyama reached and helped.
You're not the only one...but in comparison Goku was a role model for me ever since I was a child...as much as my Father was, till he passed on January of 2024...love dragon ball for how it helped amd still helps me through the hardships by fiving me the motivation and strength to keep pushing...also...rest in peace Aki Sensei...he's already missed greatly...
Sorry to hear that about your dad brother. Thank you for sharing how this anime impacted you :).
Goku has taught me many things, and has been a role model for me throughout the entirety of my twenties. He has taught me that strength can be measured in the ability to handle life's challenges, and he was always seeking the next one, while expressing kindness even in battle.

Goku and dragon ball in general literally formed me and turned me into the guy i am today

Great essay man. I am formerly a villain too. Not from trauma but from immaturity.
I learned I could cajole people covertly at an early age with manipulation, and I could get the upper hand pretty easily. I justified it with shallow concepts like "natural selection" and "life is a competition" was the way to ascend to power and I'd help people after I was successful. Luckily I encountered Jordan Peterson who showed me the righteous path is the true way to power and making change for others.
I grew up watching DBZ and now see that Goku was a shining example of this. I have zero weeb shit in my house, except for a foot tall figure of namek super saiyan goku on my desk, reminding me to be strong but merciful. I call him "Buff Japanese Jesus" hahaha.
Right on brother. You are in the small small small minority of people who are able to introspecting at all, much less admit you're wrong, even more less change at a deep level.
Subbed and liked. Rock on
Thanks for the love man! It’s amazing how one person’s imagination had an impact on so many people!
I was like you once, liked fighting and violence and imposing myself on other people. I was uncontrollable, and then I entered martial arts classes. I come from an athletic family and had the genetic “superiority” over others as I picked up on techniques very quickly. When it came time for combats, I beat my opponents easily. This happened for years, until one day I was at a tournament and I was faced with an opponent who was a harder worker than me, and this beat me. First time I experienced defeat, and he offered me the chance to become a better person. He taught me the ways of life and how to be a functional member of society, I came to appreciate this. He also introduced me to dragon ball, which is where he got his morals from. I realized he was a “goku”, hard worker and kind hearted, and I was a “frieza”, lazy and full of hatred. The show and him made me become a better person and realize the error of my ways. I’m still friends with him 20 years later.
I love this story man!! Thank you for sharing. It’s really awesome that you two are still friends today 😄

I feel like the wheeling to keep on going when life gets tough is what take out of DBZ and Goku.
Positive energy is way harder to maintain. Its easy to get angry and sad when thinks dont go your way. I have used negative emotions as my main source of power, but its hard to control.
To be clear its not about which emotions you feel, but what keeps you going.
💯. I agree that being positive is much harder.
You explained frieza well most people actually don’t get that concept or the hidden messages in dragon ball.
It’s a very well written story in my opinion and can can show you things about the people. And the world, Same with one piece and naruto. All got deeper messages that the fighting/ action shows people think it is. But that just surface stuff you that gets in to the show, especially as a kid.

I never thought about itz but you're right. There was a lack of characters like this in the 90s. I am a decade öre more older than you, and Goku was a continuation of characters I was drawn to. I was also abused and bullied, but I had been exposed to ideas like Goku much earlier, so my story was slightly different. I also wound up in fights a lot, and had similar rage problems, but my goals were more to end the violence, so to speak. I wound up wildly self destructive, and in doing so I hurt a lot of people around me, but that's another story. Glad you were able to alter your course dude. ❤
Love you bro. I was just talking about that with my wife the other day. Before DBZ dipped its toes, a lot of hero’s were very censored and we never got to see their real depth. Crazy how much things have changed. Hope you’re well!
Bro is a real life Yusuke. Ultimate chad status right there.
Thanks Dylan haha. I’m surprised someone on here even recognized the character.
Bro told the truth, he’s not lying, I was a evil person, I enjoyed the destruction of other people, I loved seeing the terror and embarrassment on thier faces when I dominated them with my own strength, I hated everything with a passion, as of now I’ve changed I now hate nothing, but I also love nothing, I’ve given up, I don’t have anymore genuine hatred towards anything and it would take a huge amount of torment and anguish to push me back over the edge like I was before… I’m a changed man, I now live for nothing except only to grow in strength
Love ya brother.
I was a very angry, cold, and sadistic kid growing up. I loved causing pain to those around me when I got mad. I was expelled multiple times for fight kids and even the teachers. I had to move from California to Georgia to stay up their with my Mother do to my terrible behavior. That's when my cousin hooked me to watching Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z for the first time. Watching Goku's Journey set my mind at ease through out the whole thing.
After I was done watching DB, DBZ, and GT, I watched the DBZ Movies and Oh boy... I felt a terrible chill up my spine when I saw Z Broly. Seeing him reminded me of ME being a massive jerk to everyone. When he was defeated, I felt that I wasn't going to do any harm to anyone ever again. That's why "Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan" will always be my favorite anime movie.
It’s a legendary movie for sure. Really appreciate you sharing your story man!
Great video. Subbed. Keep it up.

In America our culture praises the antihero. Goku is the classic hero. He had a positive outlook on life, no matter the situation. In dragonball he was innocent and carefree.
This is pretty true. Although Batman was a classic hero, I think he was the first dip into a darker style that America fell in love with.
@@WeebOutNow true. Before batman was superman . But even batman had rules. Now we have wolverine, Deadpool. These characters have reshaped the hero figure. It's strange how the culture has shifted over the years. The classic archetypes have transformed into the attitude hero. The craziest thing Dragon Ball Z has done that not even science has achieved, is that it invoked the dormant masculinity within alot of kids at an age where masculinity was supposedly non existent.
Kids at the age of 5 and 6 literally wanted to be as big and strong as Goku. Hell I showed a picture of beast gohan and astolfo (a femboy character from fate) to a 7 yr old kid an yr ago and asked him who you wanna be like when you grow up and he picked up Gohan in a heartbeat. Dragon Ball Z literally inspired an entire generation of kids to get into fitness, work hard and become men. No anime has gotten close to the impact dragon ball z and Goku had on men.
Akira Toriyama didn't do magic. He did a miracle. He deserves the best of the best in heaven or in the next life 🙏

Sometimes i feel like batman when he says he thinks about killing his enemies all the time but he never does but will there be a day that ill have to take a life I truly do not know the hardest choices require the strongest wills

You want to hear something kind of exciting, and would have a greater impact on reality as we know it based on what Goku represents? There's something even greater to acknowledge about Dragon Ball, and especially Goku, and I hope that this will be even more life-changing and significant for you. The core principles that Goku's character encapsulates in DBZ, and all of the sagas *come straight from the Bible.*
For example, the Buu Saga where Vegeta and Goku are fighting Buu on the Kai planet and asking the people on the earth to aid in lifting up their hands to strengthen The Spirit Bomb, They "didn't believe" because "they couldn't physically see see" the spiritual world and the battle that was taking place over The souls of mankind, which that fight represented. The Z fighters represented missionaries to persuade people to come to faith. It even make certain statements that are very explicit to imply this.
This would imply that Majin Buu represents a literal demon, and so does Frieza, which is why he is called an "Ice Demon", because he literally is. This means that more than his character representing "bad people" or the things that they do, he represents the invisible forces that inspire people to do those things.
A great and hopefully inspiring thing that I hope you might consider is that it seems the reason why Goku has had such an impact on us is because of Jesus, which seems to me that Jesus deserves our attention. Goku re-enacts these characteristics of Jesus Christ through both his strength and mercy.
You might be able to see it more in a more apparent way through this comparison below:
Goku: _"I am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth” “Ally to good! Nightmare to you!”"_
Colossians 1:27 - To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, *the hope* of glory:
John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, *the truth,* and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, *The Prince of Peace.*
John 1:4-5 - In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5And *the light shineth in darkness;* and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 8:58 - Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, *I am.*
Exodus 3:14 - And God said unto Moses, *I AM THAT I AM:* and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, *I AM* hath sent me unto you.
If you want to know what Goku truly represents, then I suggest reading the New Testament of the Bible, especially The Gospels. I hope that your revelation, inspiration, empowerment reaches new heights that you never knew were possible. Anyway, take care, and I'm glad how positively you were impacted! Thanks for sharing your video!
Jesus, the real thing, will take you further than Goku ever could...
I’m actually Christian although I found Jesus many years after DBZ. I grew up Catholic and never understood the love of Christ until I was about 16 but never fully dove in until it was the end of my Marine Corps career at 28.
Jesus had a significantly more impact than dbz haha. But this was arguably a starting point.
I was also reflecting on the similarities between them the other day and it’s really cool that you left this comment. Love ya brother! ❤️❤️
@@WeebOutNow Thanks, bro. Awesome! Thanks for the reply and sharing a very personal testimony with us.
Just to clarify, I'm not saying that DBZ is allied with Christian views, because there's also some anti-Christian themes in it, such as Goku Black who seems to take on the role of "Christ", especially when he fuses with Zamasu, having a deity/immortal and mortal aspect, just as Jesus is both a man and God himself, but I am saying that core principles communicate in the series are biblical, even if the lens the series sees it through may not be allied with the Bible. There's also the questionable things of Goku siding with Mr Satan in the Buu saga, and when people lift up their hands to power the spirit bomb, People are chanting the name "Satan, Satan", which kind of implies that the spirit bomb is actually a collective orb of spiritual worship toward Satan.
In either case, Christ and the Bible are the very center of the series, even if the series may have some elements that in some sense may Christian. It seems to ultimately implies this statement: "Although we may oppose Christianity in some sense, Christianity is actually true".
When even opposing forces are inadvertently admitting this, it makes it all the more intriguing to look into Christianity.
Yeah I definitely see that. That’s what happens though with multi cultural religious aspects are joined together. :)

What anime has impacted you the most?
For me it was Naruto. During 2020 I was overwhelmed by hate for people who loved me but hurted me a lot. By binge watching all of Naruto during the pandemics I was able to better understand how to cope with the pain I felt, how to find a meaning to it, and how to stop hating, because hating was dissipating my energy, which were already very compromised by the painful events I was just recovering from. From that day on I accepted suffering in a much more patient way, without any desire of revenge, and hopefully I will reach my dreams by keeping this path of acceptance, love, and hard work, just as Naruto did.
Pokémon. Ash meant so much to me as a kid and even still does today. He was a character that cared so deeply about his friends, and was willing to work hard to achieve his goals and despite failing over and over wether it was loosing to a rival, a gym leader, or the league he’d always pick himself back up and keep going. I found it inspiring that despite loosing and people talking down to him he never let that make him loose side of himself and who he wants to be, this was especially prevalent in the Sinnoh saga. And eventually he did become the very best like no one ever was, and I was cheering him on then shedding tears when he said goodbye.
welcome to the nhk
It was this, DB and DBZ as a kid, and Gundam. Gundam Wing to be Exact. Those were the first two. Then ,Dirty Pair.
I love this! Naruto’s story really touched my heart as well!
Bro gave up the sigma male grindset over a japanese cartoon character.
And learned just how much better he is now
Sounds like you’re more like Vegeta.
I definitely relate to him a lot. I'd say my personality has definitely moved closer to Piccolo in super. He turns into a bit of a goofball lol. Vegeta is still a pretty serious guy with insane pride but much more light hearted for sure.
