    What a pleasure it is to hear Carole Hooven. She is such a sharp mind and gives such articulate answers while retaining high standards of evidence.

    Tom's audio pickup was suffering from testosterone poisoning. He was hard to hear. Carole was very clear. A good example of electronic-gender differences.

    Surely the drive to cooperate as a make team is more influenced by another hormone, oxytocin.
    Oxytocin had been shown to create bonding with the "in group" and aggression towards an "outgroup".
    Presumably the two hormones oxytocin and testosterone work together, b or enhance/moderate the effects of each other.
    Perhaps research could focus on this interaction between the two.

    Totally agree with Carol on transgender athlete. A transwoman does have advantage. From human rights issue, they should have rights to compete. From science, it is clear the transgender woman have advantage over those who are born with woman body parts.

      In that case, what do you think if in the name of human rights, there should be a new category for transgender athlete? However unlikely the situation is, let's entertain this premise.

      They do have the right to compete , against people of the same biological sex it really doesn't need to be anymore complex than that .

    • @kswwsk
      @kswwsk 2 года назад +8

      They already have the right to compete. Against other male bodied people. In a fair way. No one is stopping them from doing so except themselves and activists. Sport is about fair competition, not a way to validate your personal choice of how you wish to present yourself to the world.

      It's interesting that many people talk about the human rights of people who were born male & went through male puberty to compete against women who were born female & went through female puberty, but no one mentions the human rights of the WOMEN to compete only against other females. Women fought for over a century to build their own sports, prisons, rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, etc., & now men who simply say they are women can come in & take over all of it. WHY DO "PROGRESSIVES" NEVER SAY A PEEP ABOUT THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF WOMEN?! Let trans people & their supporters build their own sports leagues & compete in their own categories, have their own prisons, etc.! Stop stealing everything from women! Women should not be sacrificed for the feels of men who believe they are women!
      SPORTS is not a "human right"; if you decide to transition (take hormones & have cosmetic surgery to more closely resemble the opposite sex), that's your choice, but it means you may have to give up other things, like competing in sports. I once read some great words of wisdom: "You can have anything you want; you just can't have EVERYTHING you want." You have to set priorities and sacrifice some goals to achieve others. Women couldn't compete in sports for ages b/c it was too dangerous for them to play against men. So they worked for decades to get Title IX & to get sex-segregated sports so THEY could compete. Let's figure out a way for trans athletes to compete that DOESN'T sacrifice women by increasing their risk of injury, causing them to lose scholarships, and setting women's rights back decades!!
      People have a human right to life, liberty, free speech, freedom of belief (religion), legally acquired property, safety, clean water, etc. In all those things, trans people have the same rights as everyone else. When rights conflict, however, society makes rules that benefit the most people. Corporate shareholders can make a lot more money if they are irresponsible with their waste & pollute the air & water, but that air & water belong to other people, too, so governments make laws & regulations to protect the majority (the public). You can make a profit, but NOT AT THE COST OF OTHERS! The same goes for worker safety. Employers can make a profit, but workers also have rights that must be protected from those who have the advantage (employers). So society sets up regulations to protect everyone, not just a small group of investors or business owners. We need to see this issue of men who want to be treated as women in the same way. Protect them from harm WHILE ALSO PROTECTING WOMEN FROM HARM!!
      Unless, of course, society doesn't care about women, which I am starting to believe is the case.

    • @logicking3765
      @logicking3765 2 года назад +2

      No they do not, especially when competing in sports have significant consequences and implications. If you are serious about equality, humanity, and fairness, you will not have trans men compete with women. What you said is equivalent to “you are racist if you fear for your safety when you walk alone in Harlem past midnight.”

  • @merrimanzajac2856

    I think that we go too far when we say it's an error and it's the "naturalistic fallacy" to approve of our inbuilt evolutionary tendencies. What I think we should say is that there is some kind of balance to be achieved, where our inbuilt tendencies have the harsh edges removed to whatever extent possible. But I think our nature will still need to be expressed, and in many cases it's there for a good reason. For example, if men prefer beautiful women as mates, should we say it's a naturalistic fallacy, and we men should force ourselves to select mates by other criteria? No, I don't think that society would be happy or functional in such an arrangement, and probably there are good, scientific reasons why men seek certain kinds of mates, and it's probably good for the species. To throw it out the window seems the type of mistake that extreme ideologues make, and I think it ends up backfiring (e.g. failed communist governments). I think the goal is to find a harmony or integration of our deep nature with the more complex parts of our brains (where we are trying to calculate questions of ethics and cultural ideals). It's a problem of integration, and I don't think there are ever going to be perfect solutions.

    I have been on testosterone replacement for 11 years. If my testosterone levels get low I become agitated and very argumentative. I am ready to go off and have violent thoughts often. If I keep my testosterone levels towards the upper end if the normal range. I feel happier and much more calm, nit aggressive at all. So her analysis on testosterone levels and aggressive behavior is completely opposite of my reality.

    • @DM-ql6ps
      @DM-ql6ps 3 года назад +4

      Several conditions can cause this. Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is when the adrenal gland in the fetus is overactive and produces too much testosterone. Girls born to mothers with PCOS are often also exposed to more androgens than usual.
