      I was wondering if toilet powered by electric or gas cylinders. Plus I’m certain he has his facts wrong you need to dispose of dry ash every few days in regular bin as totally bacteria/odour free. But mild inconvenience compared with virtually all other systems...think you need paper liners too. Nice boat of its type but decor not quite my cup of tea more hotel/holiday look than homely. But everyone different.

    • @lisadefries6718
      @lisadefries6718 2 года назад

      Terence Jay £20 for pump out every 10 days so that’s approximately £728 per year for a live aboard plus cost of pump out toilet instigation that’s about £1800….6weeks bit optimistic regarding Cinderella incinerator toilet more like 11 days for 2 people but it’s odourless bacteria free ash to dispose of in bin nothing else

    Nice video, so can i assume that with a 10 wide boat you can travel up North? As there is a North South divide where you can't take a wide boat up North so i am told? The other option is to get a narrow boat, but i would like to get something a little wider.

    • @therealunclevanya

      Correct, you can only use the southern or northern systems there is no widebeam link canal.

    • @MrSheckstr
      @MrSheckstr 3 года назад +5

      From what I’ve heard from other “wide Loaders “ the common practice is to spend a few seasons in the north or the south, and then when it’s time to take it out of the water to reblacken the hull and other refurbishment to go Ahead and have it transferred overland to the opposite system. Often while this is done one hires a narrow boat for a season and uses that to transition the narrow canal until your big Bertha has been delivered

    • @bufords
      @bufords 4 года назад +1

      yes you would need a tesla battery pack $10k plus electric drive motor 20k you could never get enough solar panels onto boat to recharge the batteries. Gen set would be about 3 to 5k . The total cost would be around 50k . You would rely on shore power or gen set for recharging

      A widebeam, (anything over 6'10" wide) regardless of length, can't do a lot of the Midlands canal system, as this was designed and built for narrowboats. A 6'10" wide 57' is considered fairly universal but there are a couple of bits where I believe even 57' is a squeeze.

    Sides included. Couldn't you use wood for the side's, and make it lighter. There's so many wood preservatives. It would never rot 👍❗

      Canal boats used to be made of wood, but its not very hard wearing for the rough and tumble of canal life hence the modern use of metals such as Iron Steel and Aluminium.

    The thing about wide beams is that they are in practice gentrifying the waterways system.
    When the canal system was saved from closure in the 60s there were next to no broad beams anywhere on the system, and those people who had leisure boats were all narrow (to the extent that many live aboards used old converted working narrowboats.
    These old timers valued the industrial history and the heritage of the working boat families just as much as they did the scenery and the closeness to nature.
    Up to the 90s it was the norm for people to buy a "shell" and spend a year or so fitting the boat out. The canals were a place primarily for working class, ordinary people to follow an interest that was affordable.
    Now we have wide beam boats that cost more than narrowboats - that are bought by people with the wealth to pay others to fit them out (and presumably maintain and dry dock them too) - and most importantly want to be on the water for "life style" choices.
    Whilst there's no compunction for people to have any connection or interest in the community they are joining - imo (after almost 30 years afloat) the superficial nature of most wide beam live aboards lessens our community.
    If you want to experience the inland waterways properly, take as much interest in the history of the system and the lives of those who worked it - and that can't properly be done on a boat that can only visit a third of the system.
    Just my opinion.

    odd filming. you film the kitchen from the sitting room area and simply talk about the kitchen and the freezer being near the bar stools then you don't actually film around the bathroom or the bedroom with the cameraman filming the tour guide and not the bedroom itself. looks a pleasant enough boat but not showing things because the cameraman is shy is not doing anyone any favours.
