Think the n47 engines with the timing chain issue was recalled, mostly affected the 2007-2009 diesel engines. No rattle snake sound under the bonnet just yet.
@@christopherraison798 all the n47 engines right up to 2015 (when it was phased out for the b47 engine) suffer from timing chain issues. Often you can hear it when it starts to go but not always. Worth getting it done for peace of mind if you want to keep the car. There are specialists who can do it for £800-900.
I don’t really understand the obsession with comparing the X5 & X6. Yes, they share the same platform and engines and the X5 is cheaper with more practicality but that is the same template across every car manufacturer’s line up, more for less of the same. I had a 2011 40D model (mine had 5 seats and a sunroof), I am 6’1 and could sit comfortably in the back and there was loads of boots space which included an ‘under tray’ part that can hold two 10kg suitcases. I find most criticisms of the X6 always centres around cliche waffle as opposed to looking at the car in own individual entity.
It’s quite a shocking realisation that the first gen X6 is now un-ironically understated and I’m not sure how I feel about that to be honest. Is that because the X6 wasn’t as bad as we thought, or are modern cars truly that bad…?

The boot is the right shape for suitcases/bags for weekends away. It's basically for DINK folks.
I’ve owned an E71 for 8 years & it’s a great car. The wife & I like it so much we’ve also bought a 2017 F16 X6M. Now that is a beast of a car but very, very expensive to run. We normally only use it as a weekend car because we get around 15mpg, unless we take it on a long run where I’ve managed a staggering 23mpg.
We have a number of these parked around Norf London where I am. They are totally impractical for the effluent streets of Muswell Hill! Also they are pretty much despised as mummy can't get seven kids in them. I suspect they are like chalk and cheese, you love them or hate them. It's the reputation they have around my way a well. @@pclayton5063 Bangle definitely had a hate it or love it design language. I loved it, had a 2003 745li. As much as I loved that car, I'm glad I sold it on time before any issues, at that time I was unaware of the unreliability of the 4.4 V8.
@@behnambabaknia6843 I agree with your Audi analogy. But still feel BMW hasn't produced a beautiful car in decades. That 5 Series is ugly
Enjoyable review. They certainly have presence and have aged very well. Is a bit rediculous that such a large car, has comparatively poor rear space, but I wouldn't say no to one.
Fortuitous that I’m looking at one of these and the X5 but can’t decide at the moment
i work at a tire shop and when ever one of this come in whit a tire that looses air i always check the rim first they tend to crack on the inside
Brilliant video as always Matt but i would get the same Gen X5, split fold tailgate and has more presence for me :D
A great video. Styling of the car looks great and some good points made about diesel cars. I purchased a 120d f20 a few months ago, mileage is over 150k but it has full bmw service history and has never missed a beat. Just goes to show that if they're well looked after they'll keep on going :)
timing chain should be replaced as a precaution at that mileage
@@ahyaan2552 Possibly already done? FBMWSH.
@@martinhunt6004 do bmw do the timing chain at a specific mileage?
Think the n47 engines with the timing chain issue was recalled, mostly affected the 2007-2009 diesel engines. No rattle snake sound under the bonnet just yet.
@@christopherraison798 all the n47 engines right up to 2015 (when it was phased out for the b47 engine) suffer from timing chain issues. Often you can hear it when it starts to go but not always. Worth getting it done for peace of mind if you want to keep the car. There are specialists who can do it for £800-900.
Nice review! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Very good car. Centre of gravity is low because of fast back. More sporty than harvester X5. I would but it.
That "i've massively overspent" air freshner 😂
Great info buy honestly I dont think I would buy "any" modern BMW. Now a 1980's 633 or 635csi I would 🙂
635 csi 😘😎
I don’t really understand the obsession with comparing the X5 & X6. Yes, they share the same platform and engines and the X5 is cheaper with more practicality but that is the same template across every car manufacturer’s line up, more for less of the same. I had a 2011 40D model (mine had 5 seats and a sunroof), I am 6’1 and could sit comfortably in the back and there was loads of boots space which included an ‘under tray’ part that can hold two 10kg suitcases. I find most criticisms of the X6 always centres around cliche waffle as opposed to looking at the car in own individual entity.
Not a x6 fan, spent a weekend with one and found it uncomfortable, the x5 was a nicer car by far, they do look good though on the plus side
Still looks relatively fresh in the right spec
It’s quite a shocking realisation that the first gen X6 is now un-ironically understated and I’m not sure how I feel about that to be honest. Is that because the X6 wasn’t as bad as we thought, or are modern cars truly that bad…?
I'm going with 'That Bad'...
It's an utterly idiotic car for tossers.
@@bugsygoo Good thing that you don't stereotype and insult people, just because they have a different taste in cars.
@@bugsygoo You probably drive a Sandero or something similar? I bet you love the top 10 cheap and cheerful cars 😂
@@mrmrmrcaf7801 I drive a Golf Gti, because I like cars and I like driving. Anyone who owns a land yacht pretend 4wd is not into driving. They're small dick types who want to look like they're into a something they're not and to dominate the road. In other words, they're twats.
Old age means we'll have to *step up* from a 640d Gran Coupe to one of these (with heated seats obvs)
I had one. Costs $8000 to fix the turbos. Really cheap to maintain compared to a Saturn rocket.
Will burn a hole where you least want it to. Always had great road presence, it gave rise to the like of the Velar and others.
Feel’s like an AA meeting “ my name is …..? And I like BMW X6’s🤣 I think £10k for purchase and £3k for ownership costs over 4years, not including the cost of ditching those run flats.great review.
One of the few BMW models I dislike, I think they haven’t aged well, and why you would pick this over an X5 is beyond me.
This car is 15 years and o think it is aging well. Look at any X3 coupe or x6 after this car. They are not such a looker. This is beefy.
Anyway in South Africa a soccer player who died in 2014 owned one of these, was shot and died in either a hit or a home robbery. To this day the murder has not been solved. ( Just saying RIP Meyiwa
Looked fuck ugly then and it's fuck ugly now
It's mind-boggling that people cheap out on tyres....it's the only thing between you and certain death......to be avoided at all costs.....
People don't realise how important they are. The ratings on them from A to E suggest they're just as good for far less money. But if you're ever watched a video or read a magazine as the difference in the wet especially when braking you'd not cheap out on tyres.
@@paultasker7788 Agreed....any naysayers should go on 'tyre reviews' on YT.....it's the difference between pulling up short or arse-ending a car at 30 mph.......
For me i always go for the X5 either the E70 or the F15,
Finally got here within the first two mins! 😁 It certainly looks cool, maybe also a little bit "too much" though.
Matt will have on his solid gold diamond encrusted tombstone
“I massively overspent”
Why are all of your commenting subscribers 70+ years old. This car is wicked, I’m going to look for one right now
would love a comparison with the next gen's X6 from the F series!
I think they look their best when they’re hanging 5mm off your rear bumper on the outside lane of the M6. Cars for absolute jodrells.
Review an X5 e70 please
Keep the reviews up man, got a gift for presentation
Lots of leaves on the trees for a winter's day
Honestly, the X6 is "For the Gays" (I say this as a gay guy) It's a coupe soft roader, it has back seats for your slightly drunk girlfriends or a doggo, but the front has loads of room for you and the hubby/bf. The boot is the right shape for suitcases/bags for weekends away. It's basically for DINK folks.
Keep it up man😊😊
I’ve owned an E71 for 8 years & it’s a great car. The wife & I like it so much we’ve also bought a 2017 F16 X6M. Now that is a beast of a car but very, very expensive to run. We normally only use it as a weekend car because we get around 15mpg, unless we take it on a long run where I’ve managed a staggering 23mpg.
It puzzles me why BMW never integrated a digital speedo on the rather bland cockpit display
I remember the ‘cost effective’ top gear review of this where clarkson took it to Australia to see if the glove box would open upside down 😂
We have a number of these parked around Norf London where I am. They are totally impractical for the effluent streets of Muswell Hill! Also they are pretty much despised as mummy can't get seven kids in them. I suspect they are like chalk and cheese, you love them or hate them. It's the reputation they have around my way a well. Usually owned by the local drug dealers and wannabe gangsters.
Loving the air freshener. 😂
Is the set of tires gonna set you back two grand???
Mine certainly did.
The purpose of an X6 is to look impressive and expensive and I think it’s very good at that.
They just don’t look they are expensive also
I ordered one after finding it online as I was specing a X5 up for lease, found it cheaper than X5 on lease as it was bettered speced and got one of the earliest in the country, enjoyed all three years I had but I do not like the new model
Hi Matt
I’m considering one of these
Are you blind?
What flavour is the air freshener?
Overspent flavour
Smells of burning £20 notes 😂
The ultimate Deanomobile.
deano 😂
Winter?
The thing is the other BMW I had was a 645ci so I'm used to coupe problems to the X6 issues didn't bother me cause I've been dealing with it for years 😂
