The reason the Pirate Ship article says it's always cheaper is because the Regional Rate A box is 0.2 cubic feet. This comes to $10.80 when used for the Regional Rate A box, however any other 0.2 cubic foot box (Same dimensions or otherwise) would be $9.22... The regional boxes are just cubic boxes with a little extra cost.
You are right on the money as usual. Found the same thing a couple of days ago with a package. I was surprised. Hadn’t used an A box in 2 months but had a package to Washington State that showed it as the best option.
Interesting timing. I had the WEIRDEST situation happen today when I went to ship out a package and actually had to call Ebay on this. I had an item listed with Priority shipping "on top." The listing displayed the price of shipping as $9.99 and the actual cost of shipping came up as $10.22. Twenty-three cents wasn't a deal breaker but here's the kicker -- the buyer was only charged $8.12!! Definitely worth the call to Ebay! I had to explain the situation a few times but finally got across that the problem had nothing to do with the final cost -- it had to do with the fact that everything Ebay-system-related was whacked! I was told I'll be issued a credit for the difference between what the buyer paid and what the listing had as the shipping cost. Keep your eyes open, folks!!
Hello, if you read the Pirate Ship article it says that if you have a slightly smaller box than the Regional A Box like 10x7x4.87 you would be in .2 cubic which will cost 9.22 dollars for his package. The package dimensions he entered 10x7x5 is in .3 cubic so that is why it is more expensive than regional. Even better you can use the "Box in a Bag" method while still using the regional A box and would still get a cheaper rate than shipping the regional box by itself. Shipping can be very confusing lolz. Hope that helps anyone!
You should read the entirety of the pirate ship article. I believe it says by sizing a regional package down by 1/10 of an inch brings it down to the next lower cubic tier
You’re freaking me out Lonnie! The day my EasyPro 2 arrived was the day you made the video about buying one and I was just listening to the podcast with you talking about Zoo Tycoon 2 and I only just sold that within the last week! I got $189.99 for it because it was sealed and I live in Australia where the prices are stupidly high though.
Lonnie or anyone who can reply; Disregarding the PirateShip shipping and only referring to eBay shipping. If I know my item weighs more than 2lbs and fits in Regional A box, Should I then list my item as 2lbs for shipping, since it’s ships at a 2lb rate? This would be SO helpful since my listing would be much cheaper on shipping than other sellers. Thanks
Regional A is slightly more expensive than 2 pound with top-rated discount. Cubic is limited to 20 pounds, so flat rate boxes are best for very dense things.
I thought the shipping discount was tied to the store subscription? and there was a bit better rate for TRS? either way looks like Reg. A/B is back in contention. thanks for an informative video, Lonnie.
USPS got rid of commercial "plus" pricing and only has commercial pricing. Ebay decided to keep the discount USPS doesnt offer anymore for top rated sellers.
If I’m not mistaken, didn’t the regional rate A option not exist? I remember you saying in an older video that you had to just enter those dimensions and put in 2 lbs instead of having the actual package option
As an ebay buyer, anything international has pushed me away. The predertmined shipping prices are outrageous. I'm in Canada and I wont order from the US anymore
I have seen several times when ebay is cheaper than Pirate Ship. But in this example you showed you calculated the cubic rate at 0.3 (10x7x5) and the regional A Box is 0.2 (10x7x4.75). Pirateship rules state to round to nearest 1/4 on cubic. 0.2 rate would have been $9.22 for your package. Then again who has a 10x7x4.75 box laying around to use. I don’t(except the regional A box which can not be use as cubic). With cubic shipping size does matter.
My bad. I was looking at the measurements ebay showed in your video. I didn’t have a box in front of me. After further research(on USPS.com)those measurements are inside measurements, outside measurements are larger as you stated in your reply. I wasn’t meaning to be an a$$, just the way it came out. I truly do appreciate the information you provide and enjoy watching.
Lonnie, great topic and content. Did you compare Pirate's 2-dimensional polybag rate for that box? I've found their 2-dimensional bag rates (at or below 18") generally (not always) beat 3 dimensional cubic rates. Just wondering how that stacks up in your scenario. I appreciate your informational approach to this lifestyle! Casey a/k/a willowelivery

I would like to see any of that in writing, eBay has been cheaper on regular priority shipping for top rated sellers for a long time now. The only time pirate ship is cheaper is on cubic shipping when that is the best option.
Ebay is 3% cheaper if you are top rated for priority. Not counting cubic because ebay doesn't offer that. That 3% is the commercial plus discount USPS use to offer but was phased out. Now USPS only has 1 commercial tier. But ebay decided to continue to offer this discount that usps doesn't offer any longer.
