Free shipping gets sales tax on the whole price. This will make your price higher than others who have the same over all price with shipping, because sales tax are excluded from shipping price charged. BINGO!
When you offer free shipping it eliminates the buyers knowledge of the labour involved. It really should be called “shipping and handling”. Time, labour, supplies and delivery are all costs to the seller.
Another advantage of adding on shipping is if a buyer initiated a return (their choice, not your fault), you don’t have to refund the shipping cost, just the item cost. With free shipping, you must refund it all.
About the increasing your limits question, unfortunately with the no calling thing I am not sure BUT I called on day 2 of having my store open, I had 10 listings available, and asked about an increase. They asked me a number of questions about my personally to prove I was who I claimed to be and once verified I instantly got bumped up to 50 listings.
One reason I don't like to do free shipping is if the buyer wants to return an item (I don't do free returns either) then I'm out the shipping cost sending it to them but a lot of my items are heavy (dinnerware, glassware, shoes and boots, coats, etc.) I also don't like the buyers thinking shipping is free for us when we do free shipping. A lot of buyers actually think it is free and make lower offers to buy because they look at other listings, ignore the shipping charges and think our price should be the same... kinda like what Lonny said... free shipping sellers may sell more items but most get less per item.
I've mailed thousands of packages myself. I only do free shipping and for two reasons: I hate boxing stuff that hasn't sold yet, and I've mailed so many packages I can pretty accurately guestimate the cost of shipping to any zone in the USA. Of course I do actually weigh it, and just roughly measure the box size when giving a shipping quote outside the continental USA. But I rarely actually box things before they sale. I've done it both ways for years now, and this is how I prefer it.

My profits are down about 12% but that's pretty typical going into spring or summer anyway. If you are having slow sales and your margins are razor thin to start, increase you prices 20% and then run a sale of 15% off.
I guess some mom on Facebook or Instagram brought up zoom and everyone jumped on board because today and tomorrow we have 5 zoom conferences with each teacher and each sports coach. Just one more thing to do. The problem with some of this stuff is because they are all home they think we are all home doing nothing. I’m still working my ass off as a full time reseller.
For those of you going to the post office has anything changed? Mine started with orange signs that say 6 feet away. Then next trip there was red tape 6 feet away. The next time I go they have the garage door cage pulled half way down with 2 sheets of clear plastic taped to the cage with just enough room to slide your page under. The plastic was like you would lay down for painting. I imagine it won’t be long before they close the cage completely and only take packages though the pull down Dropbox slot. I asked about bigger boxes that don’t fit and they said to ring the buzzer by the door. Someone will can come and get it. One of the post offices by me already closed the lobby starting last Monday. Dropbox was open with a sign that says go to a nearby post office. No explanation of why it closed.

Hi Lonnie, great videos and I've just subscribed. I also always charge postage. The buyer can then see the exact breakdown of what they're paying and know that they're not being ripped off. Free shipping might imply that you'll pack it and post it as cheap as humanly possible to squeeze as much profit out as you can (even if you still do anyway haha). Easier to handle discounts since you're not having to factor in shipping costs. Promotional fees on eBay are based on price of item, not the total sale. Buyer...a lot of states don't charge sales tax on shipping costs. Yes on shipping and handling though. But if I buy something for $19.99 with free shipping. I pay sales tax on $19.99 in California. Whereas, $9.99 + $10 shipping, I only pay sales tax on the $9.99. So item becomes cheaper for buyer. In addition, you can get discounts or free shipping if you buy enough from some sellers. Main issue is sites like to push free shipping. Not sure if it's because buyers can't add or if it's just a mindset thing.

Have you had trouble with the eBay Glitch Lonnie? The shipping is changing to free once listed. I know you like to charge shipping on top. Keep an eye on your new listing if you have not experienced it yet. 📦
I too noticed I was getting less when I offered free shipping for a short time so I went back to shipping on top except for certain items where the majority of sellers use free shipping.
Basically you just make a label using the weight and dimensions for the 1st box, then you print another label for the other box. It's actually much simpler than you may be inclined to think...I know it fooled me at first. When I did it for the 1st time I was thinking "hmmm, that's it??".
Those 4 hours are probably more work than they actually do in school. When you account for all the wasted time and teachers dealing with other students, the social aspect is definitely a drag though.
Re: Going to the post office - I schedule USPS pickups..only to a point though. If I have enough that I feel would be too much for the letter carrier to fit in his Jeep then I take the rest to the UPS store down the street which also takes USPS. I load those poor people up regularly.

Right now I have been selling mostly caps and hats. I have been blessed with a couple of individual collections at great prices. They are selling ok and I'm learning more and more as to what sells best. I have also been selling many other items such as DVD box sets, Modems, Disney Snowglobes, Bats and Gloves. The all have sold really well. I just ran out of them and can't really go out and search them now. The thing about sending out an item that got damaged and refunding the customer to avoid an out of stock strike doesn't work on ebay UK , its still considered a defect and it counts against you as the seller.I know i've tried it myself
I just actually switched bunch to free shipping. I've had things listed for less cost + shipping than people just 1 price free ship and they were spending more. I do check back and forth shipping across country is killer. $12 item - $3 being on east cost vs close to $5 for all the CA people that buy from me. Try to stay under pound or padded envelope.

Just started reselling on Ebay end of last year, most of my listings are calculated shipping. Being out of New England, i found if I free ship and add amount to ship to CA into the price of the item it not fair for everyong. The buyer closer to me would be paying more when they don't need to.

To answer the title question, my phone app, which is how I do most, if not all my listings, offers free shipping for me...without me knowing it... hmm. Does that happen to anyone else, where when listing an item, I am 100% sure I did buyer pays shipping, only to discover, usually after it’s sold and buyer makes payment, that it had free shipping. One time it was an item that sold for $9.99 and shipping was $40. Lol.luckily buyer was understanding. Now I double check all my listings, and yet it still happens every so often. Anyone else?

I have a couple questions --- first, maybe it's just what you show on your videos but you seem to have a large percentage of new (sealed) items. Not sure where you get so many like this. Maybe it's different in your area but where I am, finding quantities of new items so cheap (or at all) just doesn't seem to happen. I know I have watched other full time EBAY sellers who talk about having 10 Goodwill stores in their area. Around here we have 1 and some thrift shops but see very little ''new' items. Second, have you had issues with EBAY changing parts of your listings after you post them? I have found that they have turned on "Accept Offer' after I turned it off. Also, they changed the shipping method from 'Buyer pays flat rate' to 'calculated shipping'. Tried posting to the EBAY Facebook page but so far no posts have been posted to the page after EBAY moderates them. Apparently EBAY only accepts praise posts. Thanks for all your hard work.

I know you do a lot of First Class Shipping, and I am told First Class weight is up to 15.9 ounces, when I list something on ebay, it will only let me Ship First Class up to 13 ounces, any thing over that is says the package is over weight for First Class Shipping, any suggestions on how to fix that, it would always take 15.9, before, and I am using a desktop computer any help would be appreciated?
I started selling on ebay in March and was limited to 5 items. i sent a message to ebay after i sold those 5 items and was bumped up to 75 items per month. so he could try that.
I’ve been selling stuff on eBay for the past 4 months, and it has gone great. Until now. I recently had a seller buy a used 1080 ti from me, and after it was delivered, he decided to return it to buy a newer card. I don’t usually accept returns, but I thought I would this time because I can easily resell the graphics card, but it has been over a week and the buyer hasn’t sent the item back. I haven’t refunded him yet, obviously. I contacted eBay and they said the buyer has 35 days to ship the item back before they can take any action. That is so stupid. Does anybody have any advice on what I can do?
Free shipping also means paying more in promoted listing fees if you choose to use them.

I dunno if they are but around the 6:30 mark you get a batmobile kit out and it looks like you've got vinyl lay down. If they are Vinyl you shouldn't lie them down they warp, wouldn't want you getting a return dude.

Free shipping is quite normal here in the UK because it's a lot cheaper and it's 99% all flat non regional rate so doing it is fairly simple

Have you had trouble with the eBay Glitch Lonnie? The shipping is changing to free once listed. I know you like to charge shipping on top. Keep an eye on your new listing if you have not experienced it yet. 📦

Good video. When you look at the sold items the most items that sold are no free shipping.
I too noticed I was getting less when I offered free shipping for a short time so I went back to shipping on top except for certain items where the majority of sellers use free shipping.
Had a bunch of orders going out in the last week! I always charge shipping calculated to the destination where ever they may live!
Question: I have never had to split a combined order into 2 or more boxes - could you show how you create the labels for those?
Basically you just make a label using the weight and dimensions for the 1st box, then you print another label for the other box. It's actually much simpler than you may be inclined to think...I know it fooled me at first. When I did it for the 1st time I was thinking "hmmm, that's it??".
Those 4 hours are probably more work than they actually do in school. When you account for all the wasted time and teachers dealing with other students, the social aspect is definitely a drag though.
i do free postage on small items and low priced items and the reason i do is because ebay charge you on you postage and it brings in the sales
Re: Going to the post office - I schedule USPS pickups..only to a point though. If I have enough that I feel would be too much for the letter carrier to fit in his Jeep then I take the rest to the UPS store down the street which also takes USPS. I load those poor people up regularly.

Hi Lonnie, I have been at eBay since mid October and started following you not long after that. Just part time now...until I retire from the J O B ! Right now I have been selling mostly caps and hats. I have been blessed with a couple of individual collections at great prices. They are selling ok and I'm learning more and more as to what sells best. I have also been selling many other items such as DVD box sets, Modems, Disney Snowglobes, Bats and Gloves. The all have sold really well. I just ran out of them and can't really go out and search them now. That said my question is I need some help making a really nice functional storefront for my eBay store. What should I do and is it really a big factor in my success. Only use free shipping for first class items that you wont need insurance on and most clothing items.

New sellers are limited on the number of games they can sell when first starting out...so they cannot sell games to build up their Ebay feedback....just FYI
The thing about sending out an item that got damaged and refunding the customer to avoid an out of stock strike doesn't work on ebay UK , its still considered a defect and it counts against you as the seller.I know i've tried it myself

I just actually switched bunch to free shipping. I've had things listed for less cost + shipping than people just 1 price free ship and they were spending more. I do check back and forth shipping across country is killer. $12 item - $3 being on east cost vs close to $5 for all the CA people that buy from me. Try to stay under pound or padded envelope.
Love the videos, they are very useful for tips and tricks just seeing how you have your stores setup in your shed. But for a beginning seller, how do you create a clickable link to your store? And if it is shared to lets say Instagram, will it violate any Ebay policies as a seller? You seem to be a seasoned seller, and I would love to hear your input. Just started reselling on Ebay end of last year, most of my listings are calculated shipping. Being out of New England, i found if I free ship and add amount to ship to CA into the price of the item it not fair for everyong. The buyer closer to me would be paying more when they don't need to.
I never offer free shipping, because duh it's not free . Not for me , not for them . Those that do hide the cost of loose
Humm...am I missing something? All those action figure items are selling for under $20... Don't they cost about the same as the eBay sale price? Maybe making about $5 or less on each item? Help me understand how that's worth the time?

Just a thought from a fellow reseller, it may be really cool if we all (jeffrey, curiosity shop, you, Ashley rose, common wealth, commonwealth picker, craigslist hunter.. ect..) connected and sent each other resale items in one big box and do revealing unboxing videos during this slow buying time?! Also it would strengthen the trade and supporting one another as well as showing unity during this time. Just a thought. ☺️ I hope to hear if you may be interested. I have 20 people including Crazy LAMP lady cool with it. I have 8 people interested at Real Nifty Vintage interested and commonwealth picker said he would be cool doing it once he has gone through his death pile. I have also asked Part Time picker as well.

To answer the title question, my phone app, which is how I do most, if not all my listings, offers free shipping for me...without me knowing it... hmm. Does that happen to anyone else, where when listing an item, I am 100% sure I did buyer pays shipping, only to discover, usually after it’s sold and buyer makes payment, that it had free shipping. One time it was an item that sold for $9.99 and shipping was $40. Lol.luckily buyer was understanding. Now I double check all my listings, and yet it still happens every so often. Anyone else?

Why don't you print out a pull list then you could get your picking done a lot faster

I know this an old video but i dont understand y i always hear everyone saying there starting a new ebay store and can only list 10 or 20 things or 250 bux or maybe 500 bux, i opened my store 2 years ago nvr sold anything on ebay before that and i was able to list 500 items or 20,000 then within 6 months went up to 1500 or 60,000 idk where its at now, but i guess i got lucky?, if i could only list ten things to start idk what i would have done lol

Never understood the debate on free shipping. Free shipping is NOT free, someone has to pay it. I have never done free shipping on ebay.
I'm sure most people know that. At least they should.
It's just means it's incorporated into the price rather then shown separately.
I told someone that if I had an item and I wanted $10 for it and it cost $5 to ship. I could either list it as $10 plus $5 shipping or $15 with free shipping. She said she rather pay $15 with free shipping 😳

I have a couple questions --- first, maybe it's just what you show on your videos but you seem to have a large percentage of new (sealed) items. Not sure where you get so many like this. Maybe it's different in your area but where I am, finding quantities of new items so cheap (or at all) just doesn't seem to happen. I know I have watched other full time EBAY sellers who talk about having 10 Goodwill stores in their area. Around here we have 1 and some thrift shops but see very little ''new' items. Second, have you had issues with EBAY changing parts of your listings after you post them? I have found that they have turned on "Accept Offer' after I turned it off. Also, they changed the shipping method from 'Buyer pays flat rate' to 'calculated shipping'. Tried posting to the EBAY Facebook page but so far no posts have been posted to the page after EBAY moderates them. Apparently EBAY only accepts praise posts. Thanks for all your hard work.

I know you do a lot of First Class Shipping, and I am told First Class weight is up to 15.9 ounces, when I list something on ebay, it will only let me Ship First Class up to 13 ounces, any thing over that is says the package is over weight for First Class Shipping, any suggestions on how to fix that, it would always take 15.9, before,

I started selling on ebay in March and was limited to 5 items. i sent a message to ebay after i sold those 5 items and was bumped up to 75 items per month. so he could try that.

I’ve been selling stuff on eBay for the past 4 months, and it has gone great. Until now. I recently had a seller buy a used 1080 ti from me, and after it was delivered, he decided to return it to buy a newer card. I don’t usually accept returns, but I thought I would this time because I can easily resell the graphics card, but it has been over a week and the buyer hasn’t sent the item back. I haven’t refunded him yet, obviously. I contacted eBay and they said the buyer has 35 days to ship the item back before they can take any action. That is so stupid. Does anybody have any advice on what I can do?
