INSANE that the post office could not give any information about the zones and applicable regional rates for these boxes. INSANE. Searched all over the internet and USPS does not want to discuss it. Thank you for clarifying.
I agree completely! I had sold on ebay for over 6 years and never knew how the boxes worked because of the lack of info. When I finally learned how to use them, I couldn't believe how much you can save with shipping them. The post office also didn't do any justice with naming them "regional." The name itself makes you think that there are restrictions with what postal zones they can be shipped to. It's crazy that the post office doesn't have any easy to find info on how they work. My assumption is because it's a service that's only available to commercial and online customers. Regardless, I'm glad that I was able to help!
Just watched a guy that explained it horribly you made it very clear. I just dropped off a package today if I knew this last week I coulda saved. Hell if I knew this 4 years ago I could of saved! Right there with you in Florida thinking the same thing
Damn it never mind it says usps discontinued these boxes the end of last month! Also one reason our prices are so high is because China has been registered as a developing nation so they pay the same rates as someone in a struggling country in Africa. They also send over 90% of the mail combined with the other country’s registered as developing country’s which makes countries like ours to pay for their shipping with our rates going up. There is a very good video explaining this if you would like to see it. If they were paying what they should of been paying from the start our mail would probably be Half of what it is today but even if next year they register as a developed nation our prices won’t go down usps will just make a killing because why would they drop it if they already get away with the rates they charge now.
Thank you so much! Been trying to figure out this box for way too long. All they say is "online customers" so I thought it would be available with their click-n-ship, but nope. So your video was massively helpful, finally able to ship without taking a loss.
I've used these before, but it's been several years. Today, I looked at the box options and again thought, "Are these only for use within my region or something?" This video is super helpful!
Hey Toby! Glad I could help. And no, they don't take any longer to be delivered. They're priority air mail just like the standard priority option and have the same delivery speeds. I hope this helps!
Glad I can help! I've been selling on eBay for about 9 years, but just started this channel earlier this year. I'm always learning new things too. The reselling community is one of the best because everyone I've talked to is always so helpful. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel!
I reshaped a regional A (RRB-A1) box to ship something measuring 13x4x3; hopefully, USPS won't care--overall volume/sq inches/ft are the same..just made new creases to fit the item.
A1 and B2 are just different sizes of A & B regional boxes. There are two different sizes for both a and b (you can order both on the USPS website). But, they both work the same way and cost the same amount. the different sizes just allow you to ship different shaped objects. I hope this helps.
QUESTIONS COACH: How do I make set up shipping cost for a REGIONAL BOX shipping label for different distance states? Because I have Flat shipping fee on my listing. Im in Nebraska so I want to show a bigger shipping fee to a buyer in New York on eBay and a smaller shipping fee to a buyer in Texas for example.
eBay doesn't give me the option to select Regional Rate A or B Box. Only the usual priority Mail (recommended) and other shipping services. 😢 help please
Thanks! I just ordered some. On eBay I don't have the option to select USPS Priority Mail Regional Rate Box A like you for some reason. Which service should I select?
Hey David! Sometimes eBay hides it to "simplify" things for the customer, and it's more than likely buried in the priority options. I know when I'm shipping from my mobile app it's harder to find. Try selecting "priority mail" and the see if it gives you a dropdown menu of all of the different priority options. If that doesn't work and you still can't find it, try calling eBay and they can guide you through it via screen sharing. Hope this helps!
Sadly as of Jan 23, 2023, this video is obsolete, since USPS has discontinued regional rate services. I saved tons using this method, and found your video after trying to figure out why the regional rate option vanished.
Super helpful! Makes much more sense now. Thank you! My question tho.. why does ebay not show the regional a box option on mobile device when I'm trying to list? Is it only an option for desktop..?
Hey Tania! You're correct, it doesn't show when listing on mobile (but will on desktop.) The reason being is that eBay tries to streamline things on mobile to make mobile listing easier. When selecting regional on mobile, the buyer only needs to know that you will ship via Priority Mail. If you enter 2 pounds, the shipping calculator will show the buyer the correct price for a Regional A box. Then, you can select regional when you're mailing things out. I hope this helps! ~ Justin
It's an easy mistake to make. I left a lot of money on the table for a long time as well. Glad you're comfortable with using regionals now. And also, Thanks for the sub!
So A 1 and B is the same regions just different size boxes right so there’s really just A boxes and Bs and the 1 and 2 just different sizes I would of saved 1.25 if I had sent regional B
Can I ask u question shipping small things like these key chains? Everyone talks about first class mail But there’s no free tracking And I can’t afford to trust customer that they got it Someone told me mail with stamp in envelope Can you help with idea? Post office told me $8-12 to ship these 3 key chains that weigh maybe 4 ounces
OMG!!! WOW! THANKYOU! I had no idea what these were and just like you said I thought they meant locations. I was like well if you ship from A to B, can you still use A or does it not qualify? This video is wonderful! Thankyou soooo much for sharing!
How would I go about calculating shipping for buyers, since eBay won't let you choose A or B boxes until AFTER the buyer pays? I can only choose priority mail, small, medium and large flat rate boxes, upon making my listing. Which would I pick until I can change it later? Let's say I have a 3lb package going across the country. I put 3lbs in before purchase, picked "priority shipping" and the buyer pays. Estimated shipping cost for them let's say was $18. Well when I go in and change it to the regional box, and regional let's say was only $9, will it deduct what they already paid? Do I get to keep the excess $9 or what happens with that. I hope this question doesn't sound confusing.
Regional Rates are strictly an online or commercial service. You can't get the boxes at your local post office (you can only order them on the post office website). If you buy the postage for them at the post office, they will add a fee to the overall price. The reason for this is because Ebay and other online merchants have massive contracts with the post office. This is also why the postage rates you see on the eBay are discounted versus what you would pay at the counter at the post office. You may be able to use regional rate boxes through other online merchants such as pirate ship, shippo, or other online shipping platforms. I hope this helps. ~ Justin
Just for a little more clarification. These are just like the regular flat rate boxes but with weight limits? Region really means nothing, you can ship anywhere as long as you stay within the weight limit of the specific box?
Yes, you are correct. You can ship them both anytime and can ship them anywhere you'd like. A lot of people get confused thinking that the "Region" title refers to who and where they can be used. However, unlike flat rate boxes (which cost the same regardless of destination), the rate you pay for Regional Rate boxes varies based on how far you are sending them (e.g. what zone or “region”). However, in a sense it is a “flat” rate because the shipping costs the same, regardless of weight, for packages shipped to the same “zone.” Oftentimes, you can save significantly by using regional rate boxes because you're charged at a lower weight rate than the package actually weights. As long as you stay within the weights for the box you can use them. The weight limits are as follows: USPS Regional Rate Box A: Shipments of up to 15 lbs. USPS Regional Rate Box B: Shipments of up to 20 lbs. I hope this helps! ~Justin
@@CoachCommerce So, you're saying the zone, or region, may effect the cost a little but the rates charged on these boxes (within the weight limits) are lower than regular priority rates? Did I understand that correctly?
@@ItWorks9412 Yes. Regional boxes provide a low-cost shipping alternative to regular priority mail for commercial and online customers. The price is "zone pricing," hence the regional name. The boxes do have weight limits and are often times priced lower than regular priority rates. Not every time...but in my experience, lately it's more times than not. I hope this helps! ~ Justin
Hey Tom! Great question and I'm sorry for the delayed response. I always use calculated shipping. I'm not the best guesser, and whenever I use flat shipping I see to always get burned from someone that is buying from Alaska or Hawaii. There's nothing worse that selling an item and making nothing (or losing money) from shipping costs. I hope this helps! ~ Justin
@@CoachCommerce so just to be clear, you choose USPS real time calculated shipping for your products? Is that correct? And do you just have all of your products weighed approximately to what they would be once boxed?
I've modified them before, and haven't had any issues. I've only made them smaller and have still used priority as the service. If you use first class or parcel there's a really good change it will get kicked back. If you're using them for priority, t's really a crap shoot (because you're not technically supposed to modify priority boxes). If it passes through the hands of a stickler, they'd probably flag it.
A1 and B2 are just different sizes of A & B regional boxes. There are two different sizes for both a and b (you can order both on the USPS website). But, they both work the same way and cost the same amount. the different sizes just allow you to ship different shaped objects. I hope this helps.

I’ve never seen them offered over the counter at my local post office. They mainly have the flat rate boxes at the counter.
