“One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans.”- Otto von Bismarck (1888)
Balkans and south american politics can change completely any moment, like Dom Pedro I declaring brazilian independence after a violent diarhea.
@@C0lon0 Well yes, but actually no
Bismark had a lot of foresight that Europeans ignored.
@@fullmetaltheorist Not ignore just don’t care much because it wouldn’t effects them than it usual already.
Also to some it their right sphere of influence why should they listen to Bismarck.
Especially Austria and Russia.
To the other European they don’t care for what happen in the Balkan.
@JOPITER595 Just stop my friend you already enough trouble and so does Greece. Just leave at it be. We don't want another Balkan Happen.
Shotout to Portugal as an honorary member of the Balkans.
Southern Italy (which is where I was born, grew up and live) can also be considered a part of the Balkans since it's very culturally close to Greece and economically similar to all of the Balkans (def not Bulgaria and Turkey tho 😂)

@@GigaRomanTechnically a bit of Italy in the north is part of the Balkans
As a Half Portuguese and Half Italian I kindly accept your offering of being Balkan
As a Portuguese, this dob't make any sense.
Hungary should be a member of the Balkans too. They're never tired of quarreling with the Romanians over Transylvania.
@JOPITER595Finno-Ugric.
and?@JOPITER595
@JOPITER595as if, I prefer the Seljuks to the Huns, honestly. They're Uralic mongrels that should not be in Europe. Glad they're not part of the Balkans.
Sincerely, a Balkan citizen. ❤
@JOPITER595 It's not Turkic. Just because their exonym refers to a Turkic group and they're somewhat in the Turkic Organisation doesn't mean it is.
BALKANS IS NOT A MEMBERSHIP.
It's a geographical area... Hungary is part of said geographical area.
So Is Moldova and Odessa...which are excluded from this map for whatever reason.
I don't know why suddenly people decided the Balkans was a cultural and political thing and anyone who dosent share said culture or politics is now suddenly no longer part of the Balkans.
I mean look at that map for Christ sake, IT LITERALLY HAS HOLES WHERE OTHER NATIONS OF THE PENINSULA HAVE BEEN DELIBERATELY REMOVED.
It looks as wierd as those bizarre maps of Africa that cut out western Sahara

correction: Mostly people from croatia, serbia, bosnia and montenegro understand each other. Slovenian is a bit different but still semi-intelligible. Bulgarian however, its like a mix of serbian and russian from how i see it at least. Not as comprehensive to ex-yugoslavians as they themselves are to each other.
That's because Bulgarian is a direct descendant of Old Church Slavonic (Old Bulgarian) with Greek and Turkish influences overall. So it and Macedonian are part of the East South Slavic language subgroup.
That's why the language should be called "Yugoslavian".
If any Bosnian, Croat, Serb, and Montenegrin understand this > "zašto ne možemo biti prijatelji?"

- Greece and Albania makes it hard to believe are enemies bc they’re both at NATO so they can’t rly afford to bicker with each other
- I’ve personally never found info about the UK and Spain hating each other
- between Türkiye and Russia, it’s seemingly (as of currently) tied to the Ukraine war
- not sure about the three next ones
- Baltics: Estonian, Latvian and Lithuania

At the same time they both had different colonisers: Canada had the French (which created Quebec) and the US had the brits. Even though the brits had some control over Canada after France backed off (and continued to have so until 1982) it would be somewhat of an unreasonable statement to ask why they weren’t together considering the situation within the us

Bulgaria at the time of the Balkan Wars and the First World War: "The whole Balkans are mine! And Macedonia and Thrace and Pomoravlje and Šumadija and Wallachia, and Constantinople, it's all mine!"
Certainly an excellent video, although I would add that Serbia is excellent in basketball and water polo. Although people forget that many people from the Balkans (more specifically Helm) contributed a lot to the invention of many things that people use today, and it's not just Nikola Tesla, there are a lot of Greek, Serbian, Croatian, Romanian and Bulgarian scientists and inventors. The only thing I can't find is whether there was an Albanian inventor without being stolen.
Serbia in 1885:
@@HeroManNick132 Incorrect. It is known that the war started because King Milan defended the Treaty of Berlin, according to which Bulgaria was not supposed to unite, as well as to protect the Shops in western Bulgaria. Serbs are not as megalomaniacs as Bulgarians were.

I'd say you definitely overexaggerated Bulgaria as it's actions were less imperialistic and moreso seeking unity when others sought to divide the lands for themselves, but oh well.

You can't mention Jokic and Doncic without Giannis
You should have included Giannis when mentioning balkan basketball players.
Hungary and Moldova, and parts of ukriane are Balkan regions..
Don't know why people skip them.
The Balkans is a peninsula guys, not a political region..it shouldn't have massive holes in it when you cut it out, due to excluding countries or areas that's part of it.
But somehow Constantinople is always there, but not Odessa, Moldova, Transnystria, or Hungary...at least, southern Hungary
People don’t count Hungary, Moldova and Ukraine because of geography - they’re too far to the east (same with Romania) - and the histories are too different. Most of the Balkan countries are ex-Yugoslavian countries. I’d be the same situation if you now wanted to include Estonia as a Scandinavian country because it’s in the north.
@@lilbeans Once again, the Balkans is a peninsula...a geographical area, like a continent
Countries that are part of it aren't based on opinion, but are instead based on a map and the physical peninsula.
Geographically, Hungary, Odessa and Moldova are part of The Balkans, with Moldova literally completely geographically whitin the Balkans.
That's like having a map of Africa but excluding north Africa cause it's so insanely different from sub Saharan Africa.
There were actually people who tried to do that for years, but luckily Africans including many in the north fought against such notion.
But it seems like Hungary, Moldova and Odessa don't really care if they're part of the Balkans, and it seems the folks who make this video's don't care as well, so they just exclude them cause they aernt part of the "Balkan culture" or "Balkan Politics"...and are more tied to Russia
But for accuracy sake, and to properly represent the map, they should be included.
The Balkans represented in this video is like the internet, meme version of the actual Balkans

Why is the map of the Ottoman Empire wrong?
1:08 I don't understand why Bosnia is shown as a small weak ball. During its time as a kingdom, Bosnia was the most powerful state in the Balkans.
1:17 Bogumilism / Bosnian Church. The Bosnians converted to Islam over a very, very long period of time. Many followers of the Bosnian Church converted to Islam very quickly because Islam and the Bosnian Church had many points of contact and Bosnians saw Islam as liberation from the oppression of the Catholics and Orthodox. But here we cannot speak of all Bosnians. In Bosnia there were never more than 30% Muslims in the country. Many Bosnians remained Catholic and Orthodox.
Because we are literally being torn apart by Serbs and Croats who live in Bosnia, and who are continuously taking land away from the Bosnians, while also suffering without being able to be part of the EU. The country became broken after the ‘92-95 war and it doesn’t help that they’re constantly forgotten from world history or compared to Serbs and Croats.
2:20 That's like saying English and Dutch are the same language but claim they are different for nationalistic sentiments. Be fr
English had heavily Romanization. Back then it sounded like any other Germanic language, nowadays it's half Germanic, half Romance but still Germanic due to history and its root.
