"Austrians can understand the Germans"......."but they do not want to"
Just like Britain to Americans
That's true
Austrians can understand Germans, because they learn the German language. Germans don't learn Austro-Bavarian, so they can't understand it (would be difficult anyway, as there is still no standard for it).
Like most people can understand the English, but the English cannot understand most other people/languages by default.
English is taught nearly everywhere nowadys though.
@@Leo-uu8du one thing I always wondered is what English sound like to other people, do they understand what we're saying or does it sound like nonsense

WW1 had an unreasonably harsh punishment on Germany, when it was Austria who ignited it
@@typicalperson6389 Well I think I decent chunk of it kind of came from France, where the treaty of Versailles was signed, and the fact that they wanted reveng on Germany, and considering how much land Germany lost compared to Austria in WW1, I'd say Germany didn't get out that bad.
typical person The terms were harsh but to say Germany was innocent isn’t true, it’s the Kaisers aggressive diplomacy (breaking alliances, insulting/threatening most other countries in Europe and encouraging the Austrians aggression) through his reign that made the Great Powers of Europe so tense, his incompetence is what led to it only taking a spark to ignite the continent
So, to summarize, Austria is like a cultural latin-catholic version of germany but still speak some sort of "different" german than the germans.

lol Austria's dialect thing is similar to us Vietnam. Basically, our language is romantized using Latin characters so we do have what is called the ideal sound for that word written out but everyone eventually pronounces it their own way somehow and a bit off then and there but we do not mind it so much. We think it is kind of cute and unique for each dialect and accept all. Some region dialect sound way too off and they may sound unintelligible to other speakers especially the central part of Vietnam. It is like a whole new language but we still understand each other through written language.
uh yes Vietnam the country of hot girls and cheap hotels
But Vietnam is an united country,Germany and Austria are separated lol
@@crystalpink6535 yeah I said only the dialect thing within Austria. Most Vietnamese don't really think there is one standard dialect or accent. Everyone just say however they feel most comfortable with. Some believe the Northern speech should be the standard as it is the oldest region but eventually they don't pronounce exactly like written anyway.
I'm sure Austria if ever united with Germany will not mind it really much and continue to do their own thing anyway (if Germany don't enforce them to change their habits) as they have the same German roots. However, I don't think Russia and US like the idea of united Germany states
@@rosemichaelis9519 If Austria would unite with Germany, then Germany would probably force its tongue on Austria like it did with its own regional dialects and languages. Most regional languages like Alemannic, Bavarian and Low German die out within Germany's border, because for Germans they are just "dialects" and their speakers are "uneducated".
What people in Germany today call dialects are in reality mostly accents and slangs. There are just minor differences left like in Saxon they pronounce all 't' as 'd' and you can hear 'i'/'e' instead of 'ü'/'ö'. In linguistics these are called regiolects.
Alemannic, Bavarian and Low German don't just differ in pronounciation, but also in grammar and vocabulary, due to their different origin and foreign influences.
E.g. Bavarian, Alemannic and Low German are a thing since the early Middle Ages (Old Bavarian, Old Alemannic and Old Saxon)
@@rosemichaelis9519 Seeing how Austrians heavily dislike germans a "unification" won't happen. It also wouldn't make any sense for us Austrians to accept the germans into our country as they're many more than us and us ethnic Austrians would then be a minority in our own country.

Not much to say. Dolfuß had enough of the parliament an desolved it.
@@myfairlady343 Still, it was an interesting time. Austro-Fascism was its own interpretation of fascism, inspired by Mussolini. The Austrian civil war, the transformation of democracy into a dictatorship, Dollfuss rejection of Hitler, Dollfuss murder, the dictator Schusschnig, who was later interned in the concentration camp after the Nazis came to power and then taught for a few years as a professor at the University of Saint Louis.
In general, the time under the military dictatorship, as well as the high unemployment and poverty after World War I, were important for the Anschluss to Germany later.

Kleinwalsertal by any chance?
I know Austria blaming Germany became a meme and I love memes but too many people in this comment section believe memes are historical facts and that ignorance pisses me off
"Germany got all the blame after WW1" last time i checked Austria stopped existing as a great power lost many of its german speaking lands, lost its only port, couldnt have an airforce, lost most of its industry, was denied the right of self-determination, was plunged into two decades of unrest and instability and GOT ALSO BLAMED (treaty of Saint.Germain states Austria-Hungary and its allies are responsible for the war).
Germany is just more well known and gets the spotlight in history books.
And dont get me started on WW2 Austria didnt exist between 1938 and 1945. Hitler left austria in 1913 served in the GERMAN army founded the NSDAP in GERMANY got voted into power in GERMANY was the chancellor and Führer of GERMANY and former Austria was part of GERMANY. Austro-germans made up not even 10% of the german population in 1939 so get out of here with the whole "Austria started WW2". Its city got destroyed too 250 000 austrians serving in the german army died and the country was occupied until 1955.
Only thing I admit is that Austria was classified as a "victim of Germany" which is unfair to germany since austria wanted annexation. But austrian school books still say that we were a willing part of the 3.Reich and highlight austrian involvement.
the wanted anexation thing is worng lots of people supported it but its not like the vote ever happend and maybe hitler had a good reason to make sure.....
it is possiple that people would have wanted it but we will never know for sure
Small correction. AUSTRIA didn't want the Anschluss. The Austrian people wanted it. The country/it's government certainly did not want it.

Actually the list of Austrian demands wasn't entirely ridiculous. The Serbians even agreed to a handful of demands but there were 1 or 2 big ones that they wouldn't agree to. So the Austrians could have gotten most of what they wanted and avoided the war but they said no
they made their mind for war before the ultimatum only
they wanted to add 1 more ethnicity to their empire.
though to be fair the big one was a pretty big one, the austrians wanted to conduct their own investigation into Franz Ferdinand's death, the serbians refused this part of the demand, which personally I don't see such a demand as ridiculous at all. especially given the nationalistic nature of the assassination.
didn't the serbian government say that the last part needs to be debated at the European theatre or somehing simmilar, and Austria refused.

@@-Eisenfaust- Wow, dude, you have 0 history knowledge. Till 1945 almost all Austrians considered themselves Germans since their ancestors settled in the lands known as Austria today from Bavaria 1200-1000 years ago and to a lesser degree from Franconia and also mixed with the small local Slavic and Avar populations. Austria had been the predominant force in Germany for 500 years between the 13th century and 1866 as the biggest and most powerful of all German states. That it had been kicked out of the German unification process was due to the Prussians winning the German bi-polar rivalry between Prussia and Austria (German dualism). During the 19th century till the end of world war 1, all German speaking Austrians considered themselves as Germans in a multi-ethnic empire with other ethnicities as the leading force. When Austria-Hungary was dissolved after ww1, the Austrians wanted to join Germany in 1919 immediately, which was forbidden by the western allies who didn’t want a strong Germany in the heart of Europe for obvious reasons. When the German army entered Austria in 1938, the overwhelming majority of the Austrian population saw their century old-wish to be united with the other Germans coming true. The only reason Austria was an independent country between 1919 and 1938 was that the western allies forced it to be independent and forbid any union with Germany. Also social democrats, leftists and catholic clergymen who opposed nazism were in favor of the Anschluss. So yes, the overwhelming majority of Austrians wanted to be incorporated into a larger Germany with help of their Austrian countryman Hitler. U r welcome for the history lesson.
