Mukluk makes the best guides for GW2, mostly because they are short and to the point. When you want to learn something and not get lots of unnecessary additional info, Mukluk’s guides are the best ones to watch. Don’t worry about knowing everything about WvW, because you can just follow a commander tag with a large group and watch the chat window for instructions from your commander. Lastly, the base game is ridiculously easy and you aren’t nearly as good at playing GW2 as you think you are. Not trying to be mean, just stating the facts. I laughed at your last video as you were saying how great you are at video games while dying in a story instance, which are almost impossible to fail in. You are better than the average new player, but not by much , or as much as you think. I’m glad you are enjoying the game and hope you will continue playing it.
Over 8,000 hours in WvW. I can only recommend that you don't force yourself to 'try' and enjoy it, instead just think of it as a sort of semi-casual version of PvP. A lot of the joy from WvW comes from passive understanding of the game and then knowing how to use your comfort and understanding of your class to allow that passive understanding to guide you into it!
This. WvW is the only game mode that you have the possibility to experience ALL available experiences in an MMO simultaneously. It is the most sandbox feeling MMO experience IMO and you must learn how to enjoy existing in the initial overwhelming hodgepodge of chaos. But if you find the flow, there is no other game that has replicated it yet. (And I think ESO’s Cyrodiil is the closest to it)
Fun fact: There's so much about Warclaws in this because it used to be a WVW exclusive mount. You could use it outside of it, but it used to be very slow and overall a downgrade from the raptor. I had a very bad time grinding it out after everyone. I had to spend all week in WVW, because my dead server was always losing hard.
Since Mukluk made this video very surface-level with the most basic important things, his video is still (4 years later) almost entirely relevant, despite WvW having seen a lot of changes since then. However: there IS some outdated info that i will correct or elaborate on down below!!! WARNING: this will be a giant wall of text, but if you read this comment, please read it til the end, there´s so much to say about WvW and the video that may need clarification/correction since it´s not a simple topic. Since you mentioned builds: Yes, you need a different build, for multiple reasons. The more obvious one: you´re playing against other players, so players interact with abilities in a different way than a PvE-encounter. The more important part: WvW/PvP have a different skill-balancing than PvE, in some cases the changes are very drastic (one of the obvious ones: almost all traits/skills that grant quickness or alacrity in PvE do NOT grant these boons in WvW; for example scrapper's "kinetic accelerators" grants might and fury in WvW, instead of Quickness in PvE) And since Muk mentioned stats: there is a VERY recent change to celestial gear, which does not grant concentration and expertise anymore in WvW-only. So it´s important to always keep in mind that some stats, traits and abilities do NOT work the same as you´re used to from PvE (even if it´s just a numbers-difference) or may stop working that way in the future (if ANet decides that there´s a need to split other things as well). About servers: since this video was made before world restructuring went live, the way people get assigned to a team has changed drastically. Previously, you were assigned to the WvW-team of the server you selected upon character creation. however: this is now a deprecated feature that will eventually get removed. Instead, you now have to select a team in the (new) bottom tab of the WvW-menu in order to enter WvW (if you haven´t been assigned to a team automatically or based on your guild), and you will get reshuffled with other people every 4 weeks. In order to STAY with specific people, you MUST now select a WvW-guild in the guild-panel before the lockout-timer expires (displayed in the guild-panel as well), and you will ONLY get reassigned with players that selected the same guild, on the WvW-reset after teams got locked in (the timer). You cannot change your team on the fly anymore by transferring. This is probably the biggest change that has happened since the video got released. ~ 4:50 / ~ 5:20 this is outdated information due to changes. In order to obtain the warclaw, the collection is no longer required. You immediately unlock the warclaw in WvW by just spending the first point in the Warclaw Mastery. ~ 11:00 i wouldn´t necessarily say that Mukluk always has a "high level understanding" of whatever he makes guides about (not as a general statement). HOWEVER: he ALWAYS has AT LEAST a fundamental understanding of what he´s talking about. In other words: he understands the topic ENOUGH to not spread false information (and he even almost always says that he is a relatively casual player), but it may sometimes not be in-depth knowledge for a very detailed guide. Which is a thing he does VERY well. He keeps the things he doesn´t know enough about on a surface-level that is enough to explain the basics, while not going so deep into things that the information he gives may become false information. And this video in particular showcases this very well. Despite being so old, almost none of the information he´s giving became outdated (except how teams are made/team-selection, since this process just had a massive rework earlier this year) ~ 14:30 this is a very difficult question to answer honestly. I´m not even sure if you can even get any realistic numbers on how many people play casually vs highly competetive players. However: the difference in skill between dedicated WvW-players (e.g. players that raid with a guild on a regular basis) and casual WvW-players (e.g. hopping in for gift of battle and then leaving) is drastic. But you´re not wrong with what you said. Since especially in large-scale in a public squad led by a capable commander, there´s usually a very skilled "core" of the squad, surrounded by the more casual players. Which equalizes out the skill-difference to some extent. However: you will still have to learn the fundamental dynamics of WvW-combat (which is a thing learned best from experienced players directly). ~ 15:30 that´s the neat part. You are ALWAYS on the team that is "being invaded". Because it is a 3-way free-for-all, and 24/7 PvP-mode, and everyone has a "home"-borderland (the one with the "house"-icon in the WvW-menu), there´s always some conflict going on somewhere (including your home, and especially eternal battlegrounds, which is the only map where structures are placed equally on the map) ~ 18:14 there´s a good chance that this may actually happen, assuming you are trying to understand WHY those professions are played in certain ways in WvW. This is actually the reason why i even became an engineer-main, despite playing Ranger and Guardian for YEARS before. ~ 20:14 i disagree with that, because that´s a very surface-level approach that swings around in the other direction very quickly. While yes, you may need to learn less buttons and traits if you´re following a build (which mostly is true), the devil hides in the details. There is a LOT of mechanics/dynamics that work into each other, professions that interact with each other, and game-knowledge/profession-knowledge is the MOST important thing (in PvE as well, but in WvW EVEN MORE, and in solo-roaming EVEN EVEN MORE MORE). Also, the amount of buttons heavily varies from profession to profession, and even from build to build. As generalized example: engineer (realistically, going by PvE-builds that existed when they were viable) had a build that had access to 25 weapon-skills and 3 profession-skills. And while not all of them were part of the rotation, they´re there. Sure, there are builds that are much simpler, but it´s not a statement that holds true in most cases. ~ 22:00 yes, the options you have are massive, BUT: they look deceivingly stronger than they actually are. Because YES, you CAN just get all your hero-points from WvW. Yes, you can get legendary gear with effectively zero skill. BUT: almost ALL of them are a HUGE time-investment. And while all rewards you can get from WvW have been sped up over the last years, the SAME result can be achieved in PvE as well, AND a LOT faster. In almost all cases, the PvE-route is faster/cheaper/both (VERY few exceptions apply). The WvW-methods of unlocking basically everything that is possible to be unlocked via WvW are almost ALWAYS only viable to players that ALREADY have spent a lot of time in WvW. For a brand-new player, it´s almost NEVER viable to go for the WvW-route!!! (unless you suddenly become a WvW-main and spend a LOT of time in WvW anyway). about learning "how to WvW": there´s many ways to get into WvW, with some being harder than others. Just hopping in and trying to figure out stuff on your own is definitely the HARDEST way to get into WvW (i´d almost say, it´s nearly impossible to "actually learn" WvW this way). My advice: especially now that team-assignment has become guild-based --> find a guild that is willing to teach you! The latter part is also important. There is a lot of guilds out there, with varying degrees of competetiveness. Find people that welcome you as a new player that want to learn about things (a lot of guilds welcome completely new players that actively want to learn from "the pros", since you´re basically "virgin" and haven´t acquired any bad habits or false knowledge yet). Imo, a brand-new player that is actively willing to learn from experienced players is BETTER than someone that has run around aimlessly for years when it comes to teaching them. Every time you don´t understand what they do --> ask them why and let them explain. And with people you like, you can trust, and you regularily play together, you will have way more fun in WvW than you might expect. HOWEVER: don´t try to stick with people that don´t want to teach you, are rude (blaming you for mistakes) and ofc try to avoid joining a guild that doesn´t actually want newbies. They may be highly competetive and you´ll probably not match well together. Ofc this search may take a while, but you will eventually find a guild that suits you.
Muk spent years in tech support. He knows how to explain things in ways that make sense and get practical results. A true icon in the GW2 community. To answer your question about alts, the best way to find out is to go up against a class that does something so wicked to you that it makes you want to try that on others. Go forth and die in creative ways, that you may find an alt flavor that entices you away from Reaper. Also note that PvE, WvW and PvP are considered the 3 pillars of GW2, meaning that you can play in each mode exclusively and still earn similar rewards, craft legendary items, get ascended loot drops, etc. It's ENCOURAGED to play all 3, but there are people who never venture outside their preferred mode. WvW is such a fun rabbithole to go down, tho - it's much more casual than PvP and also more group-friendly, with an easier learning curve. Definitely plan on having a WvW specific build & gear layout. You will die often, as Muk mentioned. It's all part of the game until you get better at reading situations and your surroundings. This game mode will reward you if you play to your strengths and know when to disengage against your hard counters... just like playing pokemon - if you're awesome at someting, you'll be lacking in others, but an overbalanced approach kinda sucks at everyting, so pick a role and try that until you feel you like it or would rather try a different role. Playing with friends is where this mode shines, tho. Go in with a group of guildies on Discord!
Heh, welcome to WvW. As someone with a metric ton of time spent in WvW, all I can say is that there is no one way to play this mode (scout, havoc, zerg, roaming) and they can all be fun to mix up to suit whatever mood you're in. As Muk said, running with a zerg is a good way to learn the ropes, though I'd add the detail that it's really helpful to get in whatever comms the tag is using (usually Discord and you can just ask for the server link in squad chat). Being in comms is not only super helpful to the tag, but it can be a game changer for understanding and enjoying the game mode. Helps to try a variety of commanders, and even run with a WvW guild if they open their squad to anyone (happens sometimes) because there are as many styles of commanders as there are players in the game. Maybe see you on the battlefield.
I started getting into WvW when I got into legendary crafting and now I've been doing it regularly for around two years. You can really get a sense of accomplishment between taking objectives, wining fights, and getting participation rewards. imo the best way to learn is by listening to a commander in Discord. As long as you're asking yourself the "why" questions (Why are we setting up here? Why did I get wiped there? Why are we backing off now?) you'll learn and find a role you enjoy. Of course, there are a lot of people who don't ask those questions and simply enjoy following the group so that's an option too!
As a heavy pve enjoyer that played in the core of a few hardcore wvw fight guilds, what i usually tell to pve wvw newbies, is that zerging is fun asf. And what helps get u started and understand the appeal of it, is trying to see a zerg as a big raid boss squad, because it kinda is. in pve you are figuring out a comp with sinergy, each player with a specific role and each role supporting the other, and the zerg works the same way. each player has a fundamental role into the zerging working, and the enemy zerg is like the boss your zerg is trying to break, understand its specific traits and how to counter it. Most pve players have pvp experience of simply being smashed to the ground without any agency over their characters of fights, its almost always a feel bad experience of no leniency or learning curve, and they might be thrown into wvw, get ganked by 10k hours into wvw roaming experience and feel like its all the same, but in a zerg u can't and won't be bullied, except by a bigger stronger zerg, but even then, u are never alone. WvW zerging is fun as gell, and only gets better depending on who u are tagging along with. The only issues are gamewise, stalemate, hardly ever new meaningful updates, server and skill lag issues and queues on prime time.
The absolute bread and butter of WvW is catapults and flame rams. They’re the most effective and easy ways to bust down walls. It’s great to have knowledge of other defensive siege though like shield generators, trebuchets, arrow carts and ballista so that you can effectively counterplay
They've done pretty well in allowing people who like PvP or WvW to remain in those game modes and still progress your account and remain lucrative. It's one the best ways to get tomes of knowledge, which grants 1 level up. It just reinforces that idea of being able to play the way you want and not being punished for it. There are definitely things that are only achievable in PvE, like the mounts, but a little forced diversity is good as long as it doesn't last forever
You said you finished the HoT story right? I highly recoment the achievement "Knight of the Thorn", its kinda like a inbetween story between HoT and Lw3 and the final reward is a acended weapon and you can stat change it and change it to some different weapons, basicly its like a bit like a legendary in someways. (also Raid Wings 1,2,3 play before lw3 but you dont have to do them before). Have a nice staying :D
I played almost all the content in GW2 and it was nice, but the thing keeping me playing is WvW. I'm a roamer so 1v1s and outnumbered situations always feel interesting for me, with balancing, new combat mechanics and new matchups changing the landscape and keeping things fresh. I've always been a fan of open world pvp in MMOs and so far GW2 does it best. Pair this with very solid and diverse content types for when I don't feel like WvWing and you've got the perfect MMO for someone like me.
You decided to play WvW. We can say that I live in WvW. There are 5 different groups in WvW. The first is Solo players. They usually operate in unpopulated maps or in remote corners of maps where there are big battles. Their only goal is to kill you. They are very experienced and catching them and killing them is almost impossible for new players. They have the best items.Sometimes they are present in major battles, but players who are left behind or separated from their groups are their targets: Guilds or Fellowships: These are groups of 2 or 10 people and are usually concerned with simple tasks. Solo players usually wait for one or two of the group to fall apart when attacking them, or prefer smaller groups. These groups are more concerned with capturing camps or towers. Zerg groups: These are made up of large guilds or discord groups, they usually want you to join the discord or they can't join the group. They can have different names depending on their size, but their main purpose is to win the war in WvW and enter large wars. These groups get rich in a short time in WvW wars. They have a collective game structure that requires you to play with certain classes. Despite their size, they are attacked by players consisting of scattered groups or single players following them, and they usually win. Scouts:They usually work for large guilds or zerg groups. Many single players are also scouts. They watch the enemy's movements and report them to the main groups. They don't have to be very good players, but some are better than all the other players. I have seen a scout kill 30 people by himself. Their main duty is to gather information. New players: They can be found all over the map, alone, in small groups, or following larger groups. Professional WWW players:These are groups created by solo players when they become a group.A group of 20 people can pass over 100 enemies without stopping and run after 500 enemies. They play better than anyone else when they are grouped or on fire: You cannot enter their group. You cannot talk to them. Even a single player who leaves this group and runs towards you will cause the enemies to run away. They are extremely bright, you cannot see what you are, but in a moment you will be dead. Lights appear everywhere. Their legendary auras symbolize that they are gods. Welcome to the real game.
Most is still relevant with a big difference. The system has moved from servers to guilds. So you have to find and choose a WvW alliance guilds and set it as you WvW for the matchmaking to place you to a team with the rest of the guild to fight together. Otherwise you will be place in a random team to fill up the last spots of their team. Which in that case the people you will have around will change every matchup. Also the Warclaw you can get now from Janthir Wilds
As a long time World vs World Commander (launch of gw2) it teaching curve is very easy to teach but it takes a good amount of time to realize how much actually goes into the game. Discord is an almost must have if you are really wanting to take a big bite out of the game mode. Though there will be a lot of those out their that will say you don't need discord that's for the ultra sweats or I do not want some nerd telling me what to do, the general survival rate of players and the general going on of things is better knowing you can jump into call and listening to what other players are saying and what is going on the map. Many guilds and commander have either there own private or public discord that are used on the regular bases and being them is great. What the game mode does not teach you how the game truly plays: Zerging is not for everyone and its very understandable it can be very much a slog or one sided but what the general outcome of it is having as many aoe and survivability as you can or playing classes that really support other players healing and boon giving is very much appreciated. The other part of zerging is that of class/build coordination some classes perform better then others and work off each other and creating prop squads like making sure every party has a guardian a necro an ele as an example each covering for boons the other does not cover (this does require some decent coordination). Roaming: Is very much the hardcore of WvW it is very not much for the feint of heart it will truly test your class understanding and knowledge as well as your true button pressing skills good roamers will take on 3 v 1 without hesitation. Defending/calllouts: always be using team and map chat open lots of players will have a separate tab just for these chat logs just for this and are constantly scanning it stuff can happen on a whim or small fights can suddenly turn into massive brawls either at a tower or camp and being ready to move from place to place is the key to winning. when defendign an objective its always good to callout on team and map chat what is coming or what you see Size of the group estimate as best you can or give a possible range. Location what (tower, keep, camp or shrine). Uniform are the the blue team the green team do they all have the same guild tag. Time what is the current timer of attack is it just staring or is the wall and gate damaged is there an emergency waypoint able to be used. (also know as the sluts reports) Classes/builds: every classes has it strength and weakness and wvw is one if not the biggest game mode where being able to class hop in and out is very important and it is noticeable when a team need more defense or more dmg being able to swap on the fly comes in handy. Now some classes will always out perform other but knowing you have the ability to either counter or contribute to the team as whole is very much need WvW is a team effort at the end of the day you either win as a team or lose. Mukluk video is very informative it not fully out of date but it should help in a stronger start and hopefully this word salad of mind help. (this is barely dipping a toe into the massive lake that is WvW).
As someone who switched from only running PvE to WvW and only a bit of PvE the best advice I can give you, is joining a guild/alliance. Don't do it on your own, it is heavily team focused (yes Roaming too imo my dear Roamers). Also you can get better into the playstyle of your Chosen class, because there will be players in these alliances, who will give class lessons or teach you general things about WvW. Discord/TeamSpeak is everything especially when you are new and you are joining a zerk. (:
The reason why there are so many guild slots in GW2 is that you can search for and join the right guild for each type of player mode (PVE, PVP, WVW, RP etc.). This means you always have the right community at your fingertips with just one click.
If you are thinking about another class for WvW, there is a good chance you will be receiving a good number of "Tombs Of Knowledge" which can be used to add levels to other characters of a different class.
As for the whole alt thing in WvW, yes other classes are great at certain things. PvE in this game is KINDA trivial unless you’re doing pinnacle content. In WvW a necromancer (especially scourge and to a lesser degree reaper) excel at ripping boons to soften up the enemy players. Whereas a class like firebrand is great at giving your squad aegis and stability and then classes like druid or scrapper are amazing at healing and removing conditions from your team. WvW is much more specialized than PvE in this game for sure.
I took a long break from the Game and now I'm thinking of actually doing WvW seriously. It's an amazing game mode that i regret not taking advantage of.
IMO the best experience you can have is to find a guild that has consistent tags that lead groups. This will let you go out in different sized groups, depending on what they focus on. Roaming is "ok" and can be fun in its' own way but where it really gets enjoyable is when you're working with a group. Small group stuff 10-15 is drastically different from zerg play 50 man....and both have their own merits. With a small group you can be more critical of timings, more specific about group setups, and more synergies between your group and this can allow very small groups to destroy larger groups that are either caught off guard or just plain not as serious....while zerg play is really just like most large raids in games where you are focused on working as a group but really more about setting up your group to compensate for your lowest common denominator.
Welcome to my favourite game mode! Whenever I get run over by a stampede of enemy players, I start to giggle. Can't help it. Maybe I'm weird. When you're at level 500 , you'll realise that the first time you thought you were catching on, about 250 ranks ago, you really had no idea. Then you'll reach rank 1000 and facepalm at the rank 500 you. I'm at 2000 and I still do that. Luckily for me, I have THE BEST WvW guild (hi peeps!). It's full of people who are not only more experienced than I but also more skilled. For some odd reason, they still seem to want me around. Maybe they're just polite, haha. If you get hooked, it is very beneficial to find a WvW guild that is on your level. Want to hard-core raid and end up on RUclips? Then the chill guild who sometimes transmogs and starts dancing with the enemy might not be for you, and vice versa. One of my best memories in WvW is when my oldest kid, who was maybe 10 at the time, transmogged into a baby dolyak and started running after every enemy he could find, shouting BAAAAHH! Oh, and I'm sorry, but WvW will NOT be the game mode that'll make you want to change from necro. I still recommend trying different professions/builds/jobs out, though.
if you use your boost on engineer/Mechanist, I'd be happy to teach you how to solo roam on it. Roaming Mechanist is effective AND safe. Once you get your muscle memory down, if you run into 30 enemies, you WILL escape. You're kind of never in danger. You can take camps and towers completely solo as well.
For some groups you might want certain boons, and it's nice to have the option to fill a group. If you're making your own group though you probably never need to swap class unless you really want to.
If you want to use Blishhud as well you should also check out his guides and others about it. There is a Blishhud module for WvW that tells you where to place siege equipments and how to use them like where to play a trebuchet and how much power to put into launching it.
Yeah, you can unlock a lot of things in WvW as an alternate to unlocking in PVE, skill points being the most notable, however, it's still time spent playing the game. I wouldn't consider it an advantage really. If you are unlocking the stuff via PvE, you are also leveling up your masteries, which can't be done through WvW. Once thing that WvW has that PvE doesn't though, is the gift of battle. This annoys a lot of people because the gift of battle is required to make most legendary gear, so you have to force yourself to play WvW, even if it's something you hate doing.
Listen guy, I just want you to know that Guild Wars is a game for altaholics, and that while the griffon is like a fighter jet, the skyscale…is like a helicopter. Now you know. 🤯😂
If you want to get into the more competitive aspects of wvw then find a fight guild to run with. They will likely be following a tag, driver, they will be comped up and likely talking in comms ie discord. The zerg is just a giant blob which may or may not have a somewhat disgruntled fight guild in the core that had to open tag to get enough players. Well usually it's the driver that's complaining the most. The parties within squad are organized and you stay on pin in order to benefit from various boons etc. The fight guild itself is a highly coordinated and tight knit group that's usually trying to move as close to the driver as possible as they engage in fights with other guild groups and the like. This is the most likely scenario for seeing 15-20 players down 50. This kind of group is also a kind that's likely to push you to possibly check out other classes/specs. Lastly I'd like to note that it is much easier to get warclaw then it used to be.
Ah, the WvW journey. Going from the PvE pack mule (sorry to my pve'ers, love you guys) to a valuabke member of the WvW community. Can't wait to see you on the battlefield!
I'm a proud PVE Andy who only holds up his participation for Gift of Battle and I WILL announce this as well as my dismay every time I get ganked in /team. Love you pvp nerds tho
Heres My Advice Find a guild 2 Follow a commander That to me is good for a beginner because they can lead you with experience players so you can see what they are doing Compete in this mode you do not need a commander tag follow a person who does At least a commander will lead you into a fight that might be more competitive
What do you do in WvW? Well, you roam around a bit and try to take down a dolyak or two, and then a Willbender will appear for 0.3 seconds in your peripheral vision before you receive a stack of 24 burns and bleeds, your skill cast breaks because your target moves behind your character model but still goes on cooldown, and then you die from cringe.
Hi guys. I am a pvp main and a newbie to Wvw (except a few gift of battles for legendaries). I never really got into it so far. As pvp player i think i got some abilities that may be helpfull in wvw as well (like keep an eye on the ground, kiting, know how i get myself used to new builds etc.) But i would want to ask the wvw experienced community here, what they think is the best way for me to get a better feeling of wvw? How does a positioning in a fight change when there are way more players in your opinion? Are there more or less specialized/sustainable builds in wvw than in pvp? Or does this depend on whether you roam or zerk? Do you guys run multiple builds on the same character and select by situation? (like roaming vs zerking?) Or can i be a usefull Zerk member with a roaming/duelist build as well? I apprechiate every qualified and friendly answer.
If you are interested in more buttons there are some classes like Firebrand Guardian that might be more interesting to learn in different fights! Hope to see you enjoy WvW
Ah, WvW! Or "PvE with muggers". I mainly roam solo flipping Camps unless my Guild are running stuff. Need those Memories & Gifts of Battle for Legendary Gear. I'm a Hardcore Open World Casual and I'm having fun.
Juste getting back into wvw myself. With a prosper Zerg with Discord Comms is insanly fun. You should watch a wvw zerg fight Video.😅 For unlocking stuft WVW is good. Gold per hoher not so much.
Play a support class like firebrand, tempest, Druid or scrapper and everyone will love you and add them to your group and then you get good…that is my story
Mukluk makes really good beginner level tutorials for sure, no doubt. but if are past the beginner level and you want to get good at fighting, you need to watch other creators. not gonna mention any particular ones cause there are many with both high/low viewer counts.
'Horizontal progression, best mounts in the genre, GW2 respects your time...' are phrases thrown around because those are the main draw points of this game (along with 'endgame fashion wars, no monthly fee, best community in mmo's...' off the top of my head). I don't see what's wrong with people enjoying a game and telling others in few words their reasons why they enjoy it, if someone replies with "what do you mean by horizontal/mounts/respects time?" then they can elaborate. However, I can see why streamers can be annoyed by tens or hundreds of players repeating the same phrases, but that's part of having people trying to share their excitement/enjoyment, IMHO.
man , ignore all of this and join a running wvw guild for 2 hours almost everyday, u will catchup with everything naturally while having fun in discord all being there and following commander voice tag
I highly recommend joining up with a commander if available in the map. I don't use the discord groups because I hate elitism in these types of groups (which is my opinion) but if your up for it, joining a discord group would probably help (again I hate elitism in videogames hence I don't join them) but your community could help you out doing WvW anyways so ya
WvW is not a mode i'd go into solo. Sure you can and do fine but in my experience it's a mode best played with a group of friends or a guild. That is to say it's more fun when everyone gets to laugh at/with each other's misfortune than you the individual screaming into the void.
what do you do in WvW.... get gifts of battle. seriously speaking, some people do nothing but WvW and for those people you have reward tracks that give access to lots of materials and items from various areas in the PVE gameplay... *however* if your main focus in GW2 is PVE, there's very little reason to do WvW other than for gifts of battle.
Ahhh, wvw, our mandatory pvp experience just to get gift of battles for legendries. ...honestly, just use an alternat toon so you can make a dedicated "roaming" and "zerg" build that won't clog up your main toons builds slots, and just do your best in staying with a public commander tag, or just tag camps. never really like doing anything pvp, and the controlling step to really be "optimal", aka turn off autotargeting and use action cam, I heavily disliked. If it wasn't the need for Gifts of Battles, and the fact the only second legendary ring you can get is from wvw, I would hardly ever be touching this mood of the game myself. Edit: 14:38 I want to say, it's actually fairly even of how many know what they're doing and a many others are just following Tag, or a large group. You can kinda pick up of how things are play if you do it long enough and pay close attention to how folks set up siege weapons, or you always attack a camp first to resupply before attacking any of the other bigger spots, _never_ stand still when fighting another zerg, and always be on your warclaw if you're not attacking. But over all, unless a bonus wvw event is going, a lot of players in wvw know what they're doing, while few odd ones who are lingering behind are still learning.
Worst game mode ever developed. If you are unlucky enough to be in an of hour timezone you will stem rolled with no incentive do not waste your time ANET is horrible at developing a game
(And I think ESO’s Cyrodiil is the closest to it)
You also get to fight the final secret boss of the game, Commander Indo

The more important part: WvW/PvP have a different skill-balancing than PvE, in some cases the changes are very drastic (one of the obvious ones: almost all traits/skills that grant quickness or alacrity in PvE do NOT grant these boons in WvW; for example scrapper's "kinetic accelerators" grants might and fury in WvW, instead of Quickness in PvE)
And since Muk mentioned stats: there is a VERY recent change to celestial gear, which does not grant concentration and expertise anymore in WvW-only.
Despite being so old, almost none of the information he´s giving became outdated (except how teams are made/team-selection, since this process just had a massive rework earlier this year)
~ 14:30 this is a very difficult question to answer honestly.
Because it is a 3-way free-for-all, and 24/7 PvP-mode, and everyone has a "home"-borderland (the one with the "house"-icon in the WvW-menu), there´s always some conflict going on somewhere (including your home, and especially eternal battlegrounds, which is the only map where structures are placed equally on the map)
~ 18:14 there´s a good chance that this may actually happen, assuming you are trying to understand WHY those professions are played in certain ways in WvW.
12:00 man, this take here, about type of guides for mmo's and creators etc. made me sub immediatly.
You capture a camp once every 10 minutes, and afk the rest of the time to reap the pip rewards while you watch a movie :)
That's how I got my first legendary armor set. I played during the WvW off hours though, cause I didn't want to just leech off the regular WvWers.
Necro has one of the most satisfying mechanics in WvW where you can pull defenders off walls with their grasp utility.
They have the best items.Sometimes they are present in major battles, but players who are left behind or separated from their groups are their targets:
Guilds or Fellowships: These are groups of 2 or 10 people and are usually concerned with simple tasks.
About alts:
If you ever do instanced content (such as raids, strikes or fractals), you will appreciate having alts.
I'd love to see you try the jumping puzzle in WvW. It was really fun seeing you try the Mad King's Clock Tower jp for the first time!
Now is time for the mad king!!!
I’ve played for years on one character actually hehe I find it funner I’m not much of an alt guy
@@jamesanderson7409 for sure! I generally find that you can play any content with any class. :)
But did you know there's no hard trinity?
Commander knows what he’s doing, everyone following is just part of the mindless swarm
I'm a proud WPvPvEW Andy who hates everything.
@@Kaltsukka very based I'm impressed
Heres My Advice Find a guild 2 Follow a commander That to me is good for a beginner because they can lead you with experience players so you can see what they are doing Compete in this mode you do not need a commander tag follow a person who does At least a commander will lead you into a fight that might be more competitive
solo roaming is just a suicide mission if you dont Know what your doing WHich is why im adamant that you Follow a commander
As pvp player i think i got some abilities that may be helpfull in wvw as well (like keep an eye on the ground, kiting, know how i get myself used to new builds etc.)
But i would want to ask the wvw experienced community here, what they think is the best way for me to get a better feeling of wvw?
Necro is again very good for WvW . For big Zergs Guardian is a classic
Juste getting back into wvw myself. With a prosper Zerg with Discord Comms is insanly fun.
You should watch a wvw zerg fight Video.😅
For unlocking stuft WVW is good.
Wait wait MONSTER RANCHER? were you a visitor to Monster Rancher Metropolis back in the day??
You should try watching the Combat Guide from Mighty Teapot
I guess Mukk is above average in explanation capabilities because he worked in tech support...that sure shapes up your ability to dumb down things
Try the willbender speciazation for guardian and enjoy 1vX stomping ;)
'Horizontal progression, best mounts in the genre, GW2 respects your time...' are phrases thrown around because those are the main draw points of this game (along with 'endgame fashion wars, no monthly fee, best community in mmo's...' off the top of my head).
I don't see what's wrong with people enjoying a game and telling others in few words their reasons why they enjoy it, if someone replies with "what do you mean by horizontal/mounts/respects time?" then they can elaborate.
However, I can see why streamers can be annoyed by tens or hundreds of players repeating the same phrases, but that's part of having people trying to share their excitement/enjoyment, IMHO.
man , ignore all of this and join a running wvw guild for 2 hours almost everyday, u will catchup with everything naturally while having fun in discord all being there and following commander voice
tag
I highly recommend joining up with a commander if available in the map. I don't use the discord groups because I hate elitism in these types of groups (which is my opinion) but if your up for it, joining a discord group would probably help (again I hate elitism in videogames hence I don't join them) but your community could help you out doing WvW anyways so ya
There is no elitism, you’re just a sensitive snowflake that wants to leech off the tag without pulling your weight.
WvW is not a mode i'd go into solo. Sure you can and do fine but in my experience it's a mode best played with a group of friends or a guild.
That is to say it's more fun when everyone gets to laugh at/with each other's misfortune than you the individual screaming into the void.
Give it a try to other classes, you will enjoy them
what do you do in WvW.... get gifts of battle.
seriously speaking, some people do nothing but WvW and for those people you have reward tracks that give access to lots of materials and items from various areas in the PVE gameplay... *however* if your main focus in GW2 is PVE, there's very little reason to do WvW other than for gifts of battle.
playing wvw is the main reason to go into wvw, the gamemode is fun even though gob farmers will prefer flipping camps than engaging in the content lol
If it has a red name and a lifebar, kill it. You cant use siege stuff made by rivals
But over all, unless a bonus wvw event is going, a lot of players in wvw know what they're doing, while few odd ones who are lingering behind are still learning.
just do the lab farm good gold
not as fun as conquering the clocktower or doing the many achievs and side activities
Nah, he can do lab farm later or maybe next year. It's really boring sh-
I just want him to fight Steve, but not farm the place for hours
Try to unlock any skin, mini of halloween
Arenas were always way more fun to me then wvw.
Worst game mode ever developed. If you are unlucky enough to be in an of hour timezone you will stem rolled with no incentive do not waste your time ANET is horrible at developing a game
