I saw this when it was new 16 years ago, watched it many times and then forgot. So sad. So happy to have been reminded of it and came back to see it's still up.
10/2022. I could've sworn this was one of the "viral" videos back on the beginning days of youtube. Now realizing it only has 375k views, while nowaday "viral" is 10mil+ views. How the internet has changed.
I’ve seen Jake reprise this version over the years, but there is something very magical about this particular performance. Perfection. Don’t think it can be outdone.
I found this video like over a decade ago and it still gives me goosebumps. Literally the best ukulele work I've ever witnessed. I never knew a human could strum that fast.
This easily became my first favorite RUclips video back when Yahoo Launch and Ebaumsworld became a thing of the past. I watched this for the first time between college classes as a music major. I'm now going on 38 and have 4 children, 2 of which are teenagers, and this is still among my top favorite videos on all of RUclips.
When I was 4, my dad went to a Jake concert and when he came home, bought me a ukulele and taught me everything he knew. Then I learned guitar and piano and now today, still love this video and Jake Shimabukuro because without him I would be a different man. Music is my whole life and I owe that to him.❤️
One of the first RUclips videos I’ve ever seen. The world changed a lot , everything changed a lot since then.. I am very glad and thankful that this beautiful classic still exists 🙏🏻 Much love from germany
I saw this video 15 years ago, And started playing the Ukulele. My first ever instrument I really leaned into. I strive to make these tiny bundles of joy sound more serious than a guitar.
Saw this video about 10 years ago. Kids ended up buying me a ukulele for Xmas. 5 ukuleles later I am still learning. Having fun writing and playing tunes.
Lots of Jake's music now available on CD, including live performances. His playing definitely stomps on the opinions of anyone who dismisses the ukulele as a mere toy. Amazing playing.
this is still one of the best musical performances ive ever seen. in history there probably havent been many this good. im still transported to a different dimension when i hear this. I first saw this before youtube existed, this video is older than people probably realize.
Long time listener, first time commenter. This has been a staple for me when I’m upset and it never fails. Whatever you’re doing now I hope it’s exactly what you want. You truly are a cut above the rest and thank you!
Jake Shimabukuro, wish him so much success!!! The highest point an instrumental musician can reach. I'm nor his mom, nor his friend, just feel the World deserves him!
I haven't watched this video in quite some time. (Years). Something just came up that reminded me of this video, so I tracked it down again. It's just amazing ! I just sent the link for this video to my son. I'm sure he will appreciate it just as much as I do.
I’ve just rediscovered this after years as my 5 year old has just picked up a tiny guitar and I was showing him how my fingers couldn’t fit the fret board but there are incredibly talented ukulele players who can; it’s still amazing.
Unbelievably beautiful and intense and I know that George Harrison's soul receives it every time Jake plays it. Just beautiful, passionate, and harmonic!
Went to see Jake perform in Cincinnati 2 years ago, and he was absolutely fantastic!! If you love guitar/ukelele music, it would be very worthwhile to watch him play. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! BTW, this is the best version of this song I've ever heard. ❤❤❤
My late partner and I visited New York on a mid week break, from the UK. We were so excited... like a couple of country mice, in the big smokie. It was mid April 2006 and we were doing all the touristy things in the 'Big Apple.' Exhausted we found ourselves in Central Park, near the Dakota Hotel and lay on the grass looking up at a very blue, Spring sky... I wish I could have bottled that moment... This rendition of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps...' brings back that snap-shot in time...
i just watched a documentary on PBS about him. very interesting and very poignant.. I think the documentary will make you cry and feel happy at the same time. He is very humble and down to earth. Best regards
THIS is the video that destroyed my ignorant “Tiny Tim” (from the ‘70s) stereotype of the ukulele as a legitimate and versatile instrument. I saw Jake live not long after seeing this-over a 100 concerts in my lifetime; NEVER have I been so blown away by a performing artist! I am a guitarist; I am now a ukulele player, trying desperately to play catch-up for all the lost years that I snubbed this wonderful instrument…😐
I first listened to this easily 10 years ago with my step dad at the time and it was so beautiful, I forgot about it for many years and one day found myself humming it in my head and now I come back ever so often to itch that spot !!
Saw him play this live once and it hit my heart more than anything has in my life. I could feel he was putting his heart into it and having fun in the process. Sometimes I’ll listen to the recording of it to feel it again.
I saw this video for the first time like... 12 to 14 years ago... its still one of the most amazing covers ive ever seen. Back when RUclips was young and fun.
I come back to listen to this at least once a year for 15 years now. Still one of the most beautiful things in existence...
Literally do the same thing! This video been a part of me half my life now! & it blows my mind it has such a low amount of views
I come back every year to watch this. It's the most extraordinary performance that I have ever seen
@@MikeyTripz I agree. Was just thinking of the same today when I re-watched it for the zillionth time 😁
Me too! People rave about Prince's solo - and that too is great, but this is beyond compare
I saw this when it was new 16 years ago, watched it many times and then forgot. So sad. So happy to have been reminded of it and came back to see it's still up.
Classic, when RUclips was RUclips. Before money and ass and sh*t. Remember watching this in 2006 and was like HOW?
Tbh I like ass and sh%t
Yes, how does this video not have millions of views yet?

Yeah is it the original?? I can't believe it doesn't have one mil yet. Should be 40ml @@OLYsounds

And they’re usually complete nonsense!
I watched this with my dad when I was really young. I’ve watched it many times since then and I’m here again!
I think its been deleted and reposted.
This is not the original version of the video actually. The original was deleted or made private
i cant believe it's been 17 years
16 years later and it's still the best ukulele work I've ever seen.
INCREADABLE /BRILL
Jake was and still a beast I just wish he made music with Mike love!
My dad showed to me this video when I was somethin like 7, now I am 18 and on this Christmas day I found it back, I'm getting very emotional
Me too
The most bad ass performance on a ukelele ever
This performance is simply lightning in a bottle. There's something magical about this rendition
I’ve seen Jake reprise this version over the years, but there is something very magical about this particular performance. Perfection. Don’t think it can be outdone.
Exactly, some people say perfection isn't achievable on this earth but I strongly disagree. This is it!
Jake cannot do it again by himself. THis is magic of only a particular momment.
I agree this particular video is "gold" as a musician sometime you accidentally make masterpieces this is on of those times for him it's perfection
I watched this in 2006/2007...till this day I feel the need to see this performance time and time again...bravo
The same.. the best of till the tears of joy !!!!!! Right ?
this is still my favorite version of all the ones he's played
Same.
Same
Same. Right around the time George passed. That energy came from somewhere…
Seeing this when I was younger is one of the very reasons why I have my own ukulele now
I found this video like over a decade ago and it still gives me goosebumps. Literally the best ukulele work I've ever witnessed. I never knew a human could strum that fast.
Brah if him and Mike love was same time in history brrraaahhhh
I'm surprised this mesmerizing classic doesn't have over a million views! Saw it first over a decade ago🤙👍💯.
idk why but it had millions of views but youtube removed it all
on GOD, this is the most underrated video on RUclips
This easily became my first favorite RUclips video back when Yahoo Launch and Ebaumsworld became a thing of the past. I watched this for the first time between college classes as a music major.
I'm now going on 38 and have 4 children, 2 of which are teenagers, and this is still among my top favorite videos on all of RUclips.
15 years and this still blows me away. Strum on man
I watch this every few years and get goosebumps every time. Early days RUclips you needed talent.
When I was 4, my dad went to a Jake concert and when he came home, bought me a ukulele and taught me everything he knew. Then I learned guitar and piano and now today, still love this video and Jake Shimabukuro because without him I would be a different man. Music is my whole life and I owe that to him.❤️

And started playing the Ukulele.
My first ever instrument I really leaned into.
I strive to make these tiny bundles of joy sound more serious than a guitar.
Still ranks in top 3 best vids I've seen on RUclips
Not sure why this doesn't have 50 mio views.
pretty obvious why
More like 500m views
i think it does. this was one of the earliest viral videos, before youtube was launched.
That was FANTASTIC. Absolutely gorgeous!
Considering how much Harrison loved the ukulele, I imagine he would have loved this.
the ending where he picks all 4 string continuously is amazing!
Watched this a thousand times in the last 10 years. Inspired every time.
Never get tired of hearing this. Bravo,Jake.
Saw this video about 10 years ago. Kids ended up buying me a ukulele for Xmas. 5 ukuleles later I am still learning. Having fun writing and playing tunes.
One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
I can't believe this video only has 385K views (11/9/2022). I'm pretty sure I'm about 13K of them. Such a great rendition. George would be humbled.
what a legendary video, thanks for the 10+ years of memories
My guitar isn't gentlt weeping, it's having a class A mental breakdow...that was fricking awesome!
Still one of the top five musical performances I've ever seen
Just found this again from probably 15+ years ago and still sounds amazing
I remember watching this 10 years ago. Wanted to learn this so bad. Love watching this and the nostalgia
Lots of Jake's music now available on CD, including live performances. His playing definitely stomps on the opinions of anyone who dismisses the ukulele as a mere toy. Amazing playing.
***** But they are, as he says, toys. What is a toy but something you play with to create joy? :D
The reason I bought a ukulele years ago.
i found this vid absolutly years ago, and right now im vaping some lovely ganja listening to this, its bliss. peace
Jake is amazing, i listen to this song every year, several times a year for the las 15 years!!!!!
Years later this is still a classic favourite 🤍
Years and years after, this cover still gives me certain emotions
EXACLTY
Love the sweetness of this instrument. Just bought myself one and am completely in love with it. The sounds are like fresh morning dew for the ear...
This is the first video i've ever watched on RUclips. Times fly and this guy is absolutely nailing this song every time i am watching :D
I have been coming back to this video for 15 years and I’m always blown away like it my first time listening to it. Incredible.
Watching it 13 years later and still good
Thanks, beautiful moment when I discovered this unfortetable video 15years ago
I literally hear the guitar cry trough the amazing voice of this little uke. Incredible performance !!
Brings a storm to his audience just through his playing, omg, saw him at Strathmore in Silver Spring and he is Amazing!!!
Incredible. One of the best versions of this song.
Jake is a master on the Ukulele, so happy I found him many many years ago! Love this.
I play your song all the time.
You are a genius.
I first heard about Jake in 9th grade, when i was 14. Im 26 now, still come back to this once in a while.
This guy was a Ukulele God before Ukulele became cool again. So damn good.
this is still one of the best musical performances ive ever seen. in history there probably havent been many this good. im still transported to a different dimension when i hear this. I first saw this before youtube existed, this video is older than people probably realize.
I too remember seeing this video before "corporations" started to take over the internet. I miss the internet of the 90's/early 2000's
You're either misremembering or lying, Jake himself said this is from 2006. It's easy to find on google
@@stevendemayo3631 ok, it still wasnt on youtube first
"something like this" .....proceeds to lay down one of the greatest tracks ever
Long time listener, first time commenter. This has been a staple for me when I’m upset and it never fails. Whatever you’re doing now I hope it’s exactly what you want. You truly are a cut above the rest and thank you!
Wow. As beautiful as I remember it.

One of the 1st videos I seen on RUclips and here I am 15 years later.
Major goosebumps. So beautiful, almost made me cry.

I’ve just rediscovered this after years as my 5 year old has just picked up a tiny guitar and I was showing him how my fingers couldn’t fit the fret board but there are incredibly talented ukulele players who can; it’s still amazing.
Jake, my friend, you are truly amazing. Keep up the good work. Give us more!
Returning yet again to enjoy this ukelele mastery. 🙏💚🙏

I love this song... and this version is just breathtaking!!!
Work of genius
Unbelievably beautiful and intense and I know that George Harrison's soul receives it every time Jake plays it. Just beautiful, passionate, and harmonic!

Still THE best rendition of this classic song ever! On only four strings, no less!
I saw this guy open up for kaki king a few years back. He played the most beautiful rendition of Ave Maria I have ever heard.
this makes me so happy, there doesn't need to be a singer, its good on its own
Will never forget this performance through space and time i was a kid when i first saw it until now one ofthe best playing of that song in the world
Wow, simply AMAZING!!
Still magical almost 20 years later 😮
My goodness.. so May years on and still my go to to prove what’s capable at the top of your game.
I just saw this guy in concert for the first time and he is now my all time favorite, Phil Keaggy has now dropped down to 2nd favorite

How does this have so few likes such an amazing rendition
This is OG RUclips, lost in the annals of history to the videos that fuel the content machine now. The real ones are lucky enough to experience this

Clearly a wizard, cyborg or alien of some description. Bravo!
Bravo. Simply amazing.
Beautiful to see the mastery. When an instrument becomes an extension of your heart....wow!
This is a gem.
Truly inspiring. That was the sweetest playing I have ever heard. Props to you man. Play on.
Listening to this for the first time, at the recommendation of my friend Ben. His fluidity and skill are impressive.
