Man I really hope there are other ukulele videos. I can't tell you what a relief it is to watch a tutorial video that doesn't feel incredibly patronizing or commercialized.
I love the attitude at the start, so many people get stuck in those same 4 chords and never bother to learn the fretboard and basic music theory. If you're paying attention to this video you'll already be ahead! Good luck everyone.
Ukelele is a great and probably the most relaxing of the stringed instruments! Just simple and not really hard to get into, and I think is something every guitarist should give a shot.
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to learn about easy ukulele lessons try Pycanta Amazing Ukulele Protocol (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.
I still struggle with the guitar after nearly 45 years so I purchased a Uke about 4 years ago thinking it would be easier. I checked a number of Uke web sites but didn't find any with a similar "short cut". You are really the prince of sharing secrets of guitar & Uke. I love your sense of humor, and your "stretch" is just impressive! Thanks for all the tips.
This is great. I'm just starting, and it's all technical lessons, which is good if you want to be professional I guess, but the lessons forget we want to have fun - right away. The uke is a "fun" instrument, and I believe many (most?) people "just" want to pick it up and play something. I love your way of thinking, it's more feeling and creativity. Of course it's technical, but this feels different than that, and would help people like me whose brain shuts down memorizing theory. I found this very useful, thank you!
Been playing guitar a lotta years. I got a uke for my birthday three years ago. Love it. Play it every day. I'll pick it up before I play my new telecaster.
@@seandaniel23 Yeah, my acoustic guitars are majestic, and bold, my electric guitars are magically mesmerizing. My little ukulele is humble and joyous.😊
Sean Daniel, I am most grateful you shared this teaching . . . I am not proficient yet . . . but practice makes progress. I am also teaching our six year old Granddaughter. I play Piano, Guitar, Uke . . . and play Ocarina & C Penny by ear, praise the LORD. I bless you in the holy name of JESUS for impacting so many with clever, practical and beneficial instruction. Agape, Rebekaj
i started learning and it blew my mind that most beginner ukulele players start off playing chords and not knowing how to play scales. or what the frets mean, or how the chords relate to any of it. it took me forever just to find out how playing individual notes worked lol
Co-worker gave me an old Oscar Schmidt OU-2 last week. Said, "Could never get it to play." Maybe because the bridge had come un-glued and was attached with a single screw in the middle. Or, because the strings were wrapped under the bridge and laying on the uke. Well after a stripping and re-surfacing the soundboard, I put on a new bringe with bone nut & saddle and a set of nylgut strings. Just a little music theory for uke was what I needed and got it in a "short cut." Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Love this, thank you! I will never impress anyone with my big stretch, though. I have normal size hands for a woman, but a small grip-0 on a tennis racket-so I'm making up workarounds for some chords and just skipping others. Again, thank you for this. I will look out for more from you!
I've been trying to play Ukulele for quite a few years without success. Came across your channel. You have taught me to understand the instrument in a different way. Thank you
This video alone got a subscription 😮😅 I just started learning uke after missing my cello for a while (gave it to my niece to learn) and I naturally started working scales on strings to learn notes to hopefully play chords better but noticed no videos taught it.....until now. Thank you.
wow thank you for upgrading my skills in just 11 minutes! You're awesome. been stressing myself out how to learn scales and so intimidated by it. and plus i have a problem in memorization. so it was a rocky road. thankfully youtube recommended this. Thank you again Sean. New subscriber here =)
Just retired and got my first ukulele, im going to be that big bearded guy that plays the ukulele, i think it's going to be a great new hobby, thanks for the great video 👍🇺🇸.
I hear you! WE uke players get a lot of flack ..but you know.. life is so complicated..why not make it simple!! I play my scales.. on my uke.. Major, Minor and Blues and I am learning the Eyphigian scales. Did I spell that right? Oh well.. I am also learning more about intervals and mixing them with my scales.. and then there's you.. tricks here and there. Does n't seem like there's much time to learn it all. Anyone can strum a uke.. but to master it.. that's different my friend. I hope your a master! Thank you for your love.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Sean. I follow your guitar tutorials (genius) But, ukulele is my best friend. I've been using this instruction. I'm having a good time with it! It adds a bit of flavor. Thanks for the spice!😎
I love your video. My students who have divergent learning can’t keep up. Please slow down. This the the best way to help them learn scales. Or break it into smaller chunks. They think you are super handsome. ☺️
You explained marvelously. Finally I found the channel actually explain it better to understand. So glad I clicked on it . Thanks that helped a lot I love ur channel.
I got a free Uke with a new guitar once. Didn't much care for it. I like mandolin much better, I even played it on a couple tunes with the band ~40 years ago. Haven't picked it up in a long time though. A local shop has the 'Eastman' brand, and I was looking at new F4 and F5' types. Got any tips for an old 'rookie' mando player? Thanks Sean, appreciate you! --gary
@@seandaniel23 Might be fun to go get one and we'll figure it out 8) If I remember right it's just the bottom, er top, er from your chin the next 4 down on a guitar tuned in parallel. LOL 8) --gary
Figuring out that the fretboard just follows the notes like going through a piano was the biggest "ah ha" moment I've had in music so far. To the extent that when i do the "spider" practice thing i usually say "A, A#, B, C" on and on.
I played saxophone for 6 years, I could smash the chromatic scale so hard, but I was still last chair because nobody explained why scales needed to be practiced, memorized, drilled in your head. (Still trying to figure it out myself but getting slightly better)
HALP!! I need a good teaching video on how to play "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette - I need a sexy slow ballad style rather than some silly strumming country sounding version!
Thank you for this. I've got good chord knowledge from learning piano, but tips like this really help free my ear for nice sounding variations to embellish my basic uke playing. Can you translate more of your arpeggio work to the uke please? I've just watched some of the guitar videos and I think they'd translate well. Both linear and re-entry tuning is around, which only affects the octave, but is worth mentioning?
I’m getting a uke bc going from wind to strings is a really harsh transition. I think that uke is a great way to familarize myself with how to work strings.
I just found your Uke videos, how long have you been teaching UKe and who taught you? Because I left a comment on one of your videos because I've always known you as a guitar teacher
