Wow, as a Leverkusen fan I was shocked that the Hammers could dominate us like that in the first half. No other team has managed that this season. With a bit of luck, the Hammers would have deservedly led 2-0 at half-time. Good luck for the rest of the season.

To anyone wondering why we can't play like we did in the first half in every game, it's because we were losing.
If we had drawn in Germany there's NO WAY we would have come out of the blocks like we did.
The fact that that has to be the prerequisite to see that kind of guts, intensity and intent is a damn shame.

We play low block negative football near on every week. For example playing Burnley at home it would be nice to see us press and dominate the game. He sets us up every week with a low block and if I’m honest at times struggle to work out our tactics. I know we ain’t the best side in the league but we are right up there. However, his ineptitude at in-game-management is staggering and was exposed massively again today. No chance of us playing like it under moyes. At 60 minutes it was obvious we needed changes and to freshen things up. As per usual moyes in game play/tactics were terrible. To play aggressive, pressing, defend from the front, positive football u need strength in depth and a squad u can rotate and change throughout. I can take getting knocked out like that and players gave all. @@HammersChat yeah but if you can read the game, you know he was anchoring that midfield and containing LK. He wasn’t running as much as he was getting in the way. There was still a chance to send it to extra time until Moyes subbed him a lost the midfield. I agree…they would have been too tired to go to extra time, but at that point it’s a different game. Then you send on all the fresh legs(if he can find some) and hope for a miracle.

The frustrating thing is that first half just shows what we could do if Moyes hadn’t made us constantly play with the handbrake on & if he’d built a squad to allow us to freshen things up (to maintain the intensity) from the bench.
Atleast it shows that we can do it without Paqueta & if he goes for £85m then that’ll give us a bit of cash to build the squad so we don’t fall into the “small squad” crap again next season (European football or not).

If we we were gonna be so negative and defend for 90mins in first leg why play Paqueta who like Payet has questionable discipline. Moyes asked for a disciplined performance in first leg but Paqueta mugged him off knowing a card would rule him out next leg allowed his frustration to give a biased ref the chance to do this. What we needed was him in this leg when we were actually gonna attack.
