    Pretty subtle but the M32 sounds more smooth. The hats on that electronic track are a little easier on the ear than the X32 for example. I can see how that difference compounded over 8 channels would make something like drums sound a little less harsh than the X32. Thanks for doing this great comparison!
    Edit: Now that I've heard the last rock track. The difference is more obvious for that reason! haha.

    I think A is the Behringer. The Midas preamps are slightly better sounding but the Behringer preamps might be flatter across the frequency spectrum.

      you would notice after a few gigs...when the x32 buttons and faders start crapping out

      @@kdgdirk oh they crap out on the m too. I think I’ve run into more shart faders and encoders on the m than on the x and I’ve ran 4 m’s over 5 years in 2 venues all of them have needed several fader replacements, and desperately need the encoders under the screen. Over the same time period (actually a bit longer like 6 years)3 x32’s that get rented weekly at two rental houses. 1 fader replacement and two with crapped out gain encoders and one with reeealy fiddly mute buttons all around but I also think it was one of the first x32’s the mutes seem better on later ones. My professional assessment? Let the room cap and income of the room make the decision, but thinking m is better built isn’t necessarily true in practice.

      You know when I noticed it... when I was running 24 channels... I doubt you would get the smear only using a stereo track. Once the desk started “working” my x32 got weird (smear)... never noticed it with my M32.

    Yes, the behringer sounded a bit more crisp, but I dug the overall feel better on the x32 over the midas. The midas also sounded way distorted at times.

    The X32 has an excellent quality / price ratio without a doubt for what it offers, on mine after 5 years I have not yet encountered any problems but to be honest I do not do a very intensive one and with large movements, I just try to keep it well in so that it does not get dust.🙂

    Besides the slight volume difference, it appears that there is a great deal of difference in the dynamic range of the two mixers. The WING seemed more articulate and detailed, particularly with the rapid-fire guitar licks, they seemed to punch more, with the quiet spaces in between actually more quiet, creating a much more "tight" sound. Are my ears deceiving me or is this what you guys are hearing as well? I'm particularly interested as I am contemplating upgrading to the wing from my X-32.

      From personal experience I can say, the real problem with x32 starts when you have a live gig. With one track the sound seems ok, but when you have a band with 6 people, you eq them and compress, suddenly you start feeling the lack of dynamics (the sound seems overcompressed, it lacks low end). Then you play music from your pc and everything seems ok again. I don't know much about M32, but with the same OS I would expect the same thing.

    Nice test. I think the m32 sounds less harsh if you listen hi-hats and cymbals. Maybe you should create a blind test?

  • @tasteapiana

    Many mid range elements (600-2.5k) were absolutely imaged better through the M32. Upper mid range (2.5-6.5k) was obviously harsh on the X32, and that's just an observation not only relative to the M32's performance, in this range I could easily blind select it out of several mixers. Low mids (130-600hz) are always a craps shoot unless you have several amps to push through and observe responses. Lows were fine on both, the M32 being imaged slightly clearer below 70. I don't know the price on these two units and I don't care, I simply wouldn't keep the Behringer if it were gifted to me as it has too many things going on that would drive me up a wall.

    Well, this comparison is for me very unclear. The great would be to record voice via condenser mic in studio and compare exactly the same phrase of the voice betweein X32 and M32. I believe this could give us some better idea than to play "digital" music like that.

    I find that the m32 is very clear. You can hear the lows and high very clear. the x32 has to much low end. I closed my eye and I can hear the difference. I love it

  • @aholder4471
    @aholder4471 2 года назад +1

    That's such a small difference that I would doubt any of us could tell in a blind test. I'm actually surprised that there isn't more of a difference than that. Huh. Crazy. I've always loved the x32 and never struggled getting a great mix of actual live bands through it. Any tiny difference I might be able to discern or think I can discern here, I'm confident I could adjust the other one to get it to sound the way I would want. I do think that the ADDA conversion differences are always gonna be bigger than preamp differences. It seems like all modern day pres are designed to be super transparent. Consequently they all sound very similar. Now I'm interested to see what I would actually use that AES switcher you got there at a gig. What do you use it for normally? I don't do big enough gigs to use something like that, but I'm curious.

      Great input! Thank you. We use the switcher for having multiple large acts at one venue. That way as soon as a band is through we can switch from one console to another without having to switch a lot of cables or messing anything up.

    Just a little bit of saturation on the m32 if my ears aren't deceiving me, would you say that's roughly what you're hearing?

    Any chance of a WAV file or high quality mp3 download please? Really need it to appreciate the difference fully. Are you really just testing the ADC then? I felt like B was more controlled and smooth but A was more defined, dynamic and punchy - I'd take A

    I really wonder what's the point of comparing mixing desks by throwing very digital and compressed sounding music out of an iPhone (mind you) at it. To measure how well a mixing desks deal with a signal that's distorted already? I think that leaves not too much room for the better desk to 'shine'.

    i fast-forwarded through the whole video and you didnt show any FFT spectrum analysis of any kind, console shoot-outs are *NOT* a "trust-your-ears" type of comparison, where's the hard evidence?

    • @sweettreeproductions2149
      @sweettreeproductions2149  Год назад

      The evidence is in the comments. We never shared our thoughts for a reason. It shows how differently people “hear” things. No matter how many tools or ways of analysis we come up with, we will never be able to predict the way humans interpret things.

    X-32 more dynamic, with good lows than m-32
