- Lot's of people have been posting videos about how the controller isn't great for what they want to do with Skydio 2. The controller might not be for everyone, but In my opinion, those people just haven't mastered pairing Skydio 2's obstacle avoidance system with manual flight yet. So I decided to show you this full flight of me flying Skydio 2 with the controller to show it's true potential once you are able to harness those two things.
Enjoy this full uncut/unedited Skydio 2 + Controller flight in dense trees.
Note that some of this flying is near thin branches, which goes against Skydio's safety and operating guidelines. I wanted to show Skydio 2 being pushed to the limit, but you should know that the Skydio warranty most likely wouldn't cover *some of the sections in this flight had I crash and damaged my Skydio 2. Each Warranty claim will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by Skydio to make sure you are abiding by their safety guidelines and not flying recklessly. That being said, I've filmed in this spot several times and have never damaged or crashed a Skydio 2 here.
Purchase Skydio 2 at Skydio.com
Inject this straight into my veins.
Exactly! Drone crack!
How do you retrieve the 3d scanned mapping footage on the bottom right corner
Skydio Please allow an update so that we can generate the cloudmap in the future🙏🙏🙏
I can see this Drone being very useful for search and rescue work .
Wow. You sold me. Putting my order in now. I have every drone DJI makes and I have been flying RC for 35 years... but this is definitely next level... Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely A M A Z I N G. Everything about this flight was outstanding - from flight time to camera performance - and everything in between! When you're doing something Right, you're gonna have Haters.. and "Other Product" FanBoys.. who's sole purpose in life is to justify what they support and believe in.. Even in the face of clear-cut evidence and fact. They will SEARCH for negative S%*t to dwell on. THIS Video Post will definitely help set the record straight - for any logical person, anyway. This is an Excellent demonstration of what most of us already knew about the Skydio brand. Please, Keep Up the Great Work!!!
Idk who is cutting onions but my faith is restored in this drone. Thank you for making this video 🤟
Thank you for doing this. I was fascinated by the whole 17 minutes. Nice work! As a land conservation resource professional, I see a lot of possibilities for this drone in assessing woodlands, forests, ravines and other hard to reach areas just as you showed in this and your other videos. Mine arrives on Thursday; looking forward to applying it in similar ways. Thanks for opening up eyes - this is far from just a "follow me" drone!
Have been going back and forth between the skydio 2 and the mavic pro 2 especially whether it's worth waiting for my order like everybody else. It's video like this that reminds me why this is the way to go for me. Great video, thanks for sharing!!
this video is just a mix of cinematography and obstacle avoidance, just Skydio in its element! awesome, congratulations
Outstanding. Truly epic show of brute force autonomous drone with skilled controller pilot. Sold. Can't wait to get mine. Batch 2. Thank you Ken. This is the best skydio video on the net.
All I can say is .... WOW. I'm sold. If I had the flying skills (and luck) to get this drone to do that without clipping a tiny vine or twig and make such beautiful videos, I'd fly every day. My guess is luck would catch up to me and I lose a bunch of props or worse, the whole drone, but, one can aspire and dream. :-) Thanks for this video!
I am batch3 and I still believe it's worth the wait especially seeing this footage. Great job sir!
I had seen this before from you. Wow, and the choice of music was spot on also.
Very cool music. Not in your face is becoming cool! About time.
I love it flying without the prop sound. It’s like an exploratory spaceship.
Skydio must to pay you to produce mor of this videos, I bought my Skydio because of this.
Awesome. The controller is exactly the reason why I chose to buy this drone. I would not put my drone in a dense forest like this (FAA line of sight regulations et al), but a good demonstration of the drone FPV capability. I watched with care the inset on the left of your controller and phone, and I did not see any connection issue between drone and controller/phone. Don't know what the maximum range from your controller you flew, but I'll guess less than 500m. Thank you for posting.
smatsoukis for this flight I stayed pretty close, didn’t want to risk disconnecting and ruining my continuous shot. Best to play it safe.
Skydio2 is king when flying manually with obstacle avoidance capabilities without crashing !!
Really incredible shots. Never thought anything like this could be possible. I fly some tight spaces with my Mavic Mini with the prop guards on in cinematic mode but would never try anything like this. Wow! Can't wait to get my S2!
Ok. This video pushed me off the fence and made me drop the deposit... That is how is will be great for search and rescue. Thanks!
Truly outstanding. No words to describe the autonomousity of the drone.
Great demo of how well the Skydio performs with the controller. That was an amazing flight in tight spaces.
I'm more of skilled pilot....don't know how but all my drones don't have the slightest of collision avoidance....
Gotto give props for that Skidyo though to be able to sense and judge ....When this is going to be available in Europe, I'm going to buy one for my wife.
This... this is why this drone is on my list to watch in the coming year.. Great display of what this drone is capable of.
Stick around and you'll see lots more goodies.
Nice example of Skydio's capabilities. Question for you... I understand it comes with a 3 foot "avoidance bubble" around the drone. Was your Skydio 2 modified to a smaller (or tighter) bubble? Seems you were able to fly thru some very tight clearances. If yours had a smaller bubble, will I be able to do the same when mine arrives? Hope so.
Tom Allen nope, I had the normal version. According to Skydio the bubble shrinks when you move slower so that you can squeeze through smaller gaps once the drone knows it’s safe.
Amazing, it’s almost like an arcade game, nice job
LinoPR 2016 the way you fly it is close to a video game too.
This is exactly what i was waiting for, this is awesome! Thank you for the footage and showing the real potential of this drone.
That is the most impressive Skydio 2 test I’ve seen. Wow
This the kind of videos i like , again u just showed how fantastic this machine is when used in the right way, with the controller. Awesome just awesome.Well done!
Man I cant wait till I get mine!! Awesome video
Amazing can't wait for mine to arrive!!
dude i subscribed coz of this! this is the future! we can use this drone for search and rescue! want to see more of this.. Thank you for showing us what this drone can do! I am so impressed.
Cheers so much for sharing! It's definitely an impressive drone, plus nice flying skills also but in 2021 I might wait, to see if 3rd iteration releases at least by March and if not then get it for sure:)
All that I want to do when I get my Skydio is to fly like this, slow, between obstacles, smooth, without stops, fluid.
Mr Steele would be ripping it through them trees
Excellent flying! What voodoo allows the video feed to pass through all those trees?
This is precisely why I am buying this drone !
Thank you so much for clearing up the issue. I will be hopefully getting my Skydio2 2ndQ of 2020.
Me and my buddy will be using mostly the controller. Ya know with all those FAA rules it's getting harder and harder
to find places to fly. We try to follow the rules as much as we can, but sometimes we just go off the path a little. I probably would
be happy with my HolyStone HS700 for what we do as not so much into the action sports, but we will order the beacon as well.
However my financial adviser said if I don't start spending some money. We're going to be leaving a lot of money to our children (LOL)
Great Job Ken
Chasbro Chas i got twins u can leave some $$$ to them 😬😬😬 aswell 😁😁😁
Totally mesmerizing to watch!
Well done. Good choice of music.
Kendall amazing footage and amazing show of piloting skills once again! Any chance you can show us what you look like in the Skydio 2's obstacle avoidance vision? I reckon it'll look amazeballs!
I don't think any DJI drone could do this. Thanks for showing an example of what the S2 can do without being a selfie drone.
Can you do a test with using the different phone controls through the beacon to extend range? That would be terrific.
Excuse me while I pick up my jaw! Freaking awesome!
I could use this to look for some drones Iv'e lost...
As well as Bigfoot
The best drone Wonderful flying!
Very nice! This should give some on the fence of what to get some encouragement as to which way to go!
rimango senza parole, non veo l'ora che sia permesso l'acquisto in italia !!!!
Great great video coupled well with good music
This is so sick!!!
Thanks for the video, this drone is awsome!
Awesome!!!
A M A Z I N G ! ! !
Amazing video showcasing your piloting skills! How did you bring up the live sensor screen on the right?
ShibaKunNYC I’m also curious how the live sensor view was pulled up.
To get the 3d point cloud data the Skydio 2 need to be in developer mode. Not sure how to do that. So it is not overlay when flying but postprocessed
The best drone. I want to have it soon! Go global sales!
Awesome video.. so from your experience.. how close can the Skydio go through between objects you think? great video sir
needs about 2 feet on all sides.
Oh my God I don't know believable experiment really nice really nice thank you dear share your video
I don't get how you were flying sideways and backward without line of sight?
Also, is this Southern Oregon? I live in Portland and used to be in Grants Pass.
Thanks for the epic video! Can't wait to get my Skydio 2!
Brian Christine don’t need to see what’s next to you or behind you when you have 360 degree obstacle avoidance in every direction. This is what makes Skydio 2 unique.
Nope, it’s California.
@@KendallMartin Wow, so the 360 OA allows you to pull stick backwards/sideways and it just "finds a hole" to fly through... astounding. This is ground breaking. I fly my spark through dense brush and it's such a pain with the obstacle avoidance completely stopping me when it's totally fine. I'm blown away by this. Glad I got my preorder in!
Nice Video , memorizing
Wonderful flying!
Is this a batch one production model? Others have had issues with range causing loss of video and loss of link and auto RTH. But you are definitely not having those issues. True? Even with the Beacon and Controller some are having signal loss issues in much less dense forested areas. Granted they may be more ur an too but still, some aren't able to get more than 500 feet.
And how are you getting stereo image sensor representation view? That is really cool!
There really needs to be telemetry so you can tell how far it is.
Stunning! 👍
Awesome video. How were you able to record the OA thermal on the bottom right?
Like a bird 🦅
So this is why I reserved one last October. I will never fly another DJI drone.
Absolutely wonderful & incredible!
Would you say any thin branch is safe if go slow enough for Skydio to recognize? So far with my experience and youtubes watched it seems so!
if you go slow with the controller, yeah you're pretty much golden.
Kendall quick question about the OA video representation (lower right inset), is this data included when you upload the flight log and can the data then be used to analyse crash incidents, partial hits and recovery, and/or a way for the end user to contribute data to help improve OA. From a lecture at MIT by a Skydio lead engineer he stated most of the data used to develop OA was computer generated, so now that the Skydio 2 is in the public's hand I would think more real world data would help to improve the autonomy of Skydio even more. Big thumbs up for the choice of background music.
In the event of a crash you can send the log data to Skydio for the engineering team analyze what happened. It’s part of the warranty claim process, however all that information is not stored forever, due to size and privacy reasons, Skydio doesn’t have access to all that data unless you send it to them.
Thank you for the video. Can I ask a question please?. Your shots going forward and backwards are beautiful and I presumed half manual and sensory\ obstacle avoidance system. So do you have a ability to go straight but pan left right up and down , tilt, etc etc even move the body, like DJI??, while still going straight ahead.? I see there is a function where you can set up point A and B, does it let you move the camera where ever you want-an, tilt left right etc etc ? also when you do those Droney type of facts and see me away secretary can you control the camera.? Can you also have the camera tracked around someone or something 2foot off the ground? Lots of questions sorry🙏🏼🙏🏼Thanks again for sharing 👍🏼🙏🏼warm regards stay safe and healthy👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Kendall Martin, this is outstanding work. I was wondering if you could share some of the technical information. Shudder speed, HD40K?, Filters, white balance and such. I am in awe of your work.
Warren Dennis shot in 4k30 HDR ON, no filters, everything is as on “auto”.
Hey Kendal , did the recent update for keeping FPS & resolution locked show improvement when turning side by side? as I can see in this footage has this glitch kind off, if at all it was shot before the update.
Simplemente IMPRESIONANTE , eso es justo lo que me gustaría lograr y ahora sé cómo gracias por compartir
Wonderful. Congratulations amazing, dude. I wasn't speechless. I wanted to ask you if the drone helps you and corrects you when it encounters obstacles,!?
MTBV Mondi Training Bike Vive yeah, the drone does the majority of the work avoiding obstacles
@@KendallMartin Thank you 1000 and congratulations again for the beautiful exciting video. Congratulations.. 👍😉
Awesome!! Which program do you use to mix the music? Thanks!
Awesome! How did you get the point cloud video from the flight?
I hate to be negative but the video transmission does lag a lot.
Ben the deeper you get into the woods, the harder it’s going to be to have a stable connection. Lots of physical blockers in this environment, but it shows of the obstacle avoidance capabilities the best.
You are proving I’ve had too many years of conditioning flying other multi rotors and clearly need to get braver flying my Skydio 2. Mine loses signal very quickly, I’m sure yours is no different. So how did you manage to keep it so close, by sound? You are clearly flying blind among the trees, was that a challenge?
It's was quite easy once I found the limit of the range and tried to always fly within that limit. Also, if you're not turning off WiFi when using the controller you'll probably get a lot more interference. Flying blind is what the Skydio 2 excels at since you don't have to worry about hitting anything you can just choose the best/most open path and let the drone do the rest.
I assume this was before the Skydio AEF enterprise software upgrade was available? Or were you using an early version of it in beta form?
Could you please give credit for the music. very nicely done?
Awesome! How do you come up with that thermal version on lower right corner of screen?
Not a thermal image. It is the model of what the drone sees through the 6 navigation cameras.
smatsoukis bingo!
Kendall - I’ve seen it in the skydio advertising. I remember the other videos you produced for Skydio. The question really is not the “what” but “HOW”. Meaning, whatever you call it , is irrelevant to me. HOW do you place that in the lower corner ? Is it only available to skydio? Could this be something we could produce as customers? Thanks! Love the video and looking forward to fly mine soon.
SERGIO CARIELLO it’s not something normal customers currently have access too, it took a lot of effort for one of the engineers at Skydio to generate it from the log data of my flight.
@@KendallMartin thanks! It looks neat in that corner. Maybe skydio can add a trick for customers to replicate something similar in the future.
All I have to say is holy shit! And thanks!
Ps were you controlling going underneath that log or was that the obstacle avoidance doing it for you just automatically going forward? Because it looks like your left hand is pulling down and controlling The altitude was your right hand is still going forward is that correct? Thanks again
Where did you get the Skydio 2's 3D model of its surroundings from?
Stefan On Wheels one of the Skydio engineers generated it for me after lots of begging.
Originaldobo is not having the same experience as you with this drone. Seeing these type of tight spaces clearable with the controller makes me more confused. I truly am torn.
California Phantom I haven’t seen any footage of him flying in an area like this, Florida doesn’t have a lot of tall redwood forests lol. It also takes practice to know what it can and can’t fit through. I’m sure if he flew in this exact same spot he would have similar results as long as he has soft fingers.
Kendall Martin how is the transmission distance? Because he’s having a fair amount of issues with that as well.
Varies depending on whether you are line of sight. You can get decent range when you are clear of obstacles, and even in the trees for this video I didn’t get much lag. It’s not built for long range flying obviously, but usually for everything I do it works great.
Amazing
Want telemetry is on the screen to see where the drone is, battery, etc.
How is adjusting joystick movement compared to DJI?
Is that interested thermal on the lower right of the video?
Fab music. Shows your confidence. :)
BUX BE the battery life is on the screen, and you can quickly pull up the maps icon to see where the drone is, but yes telemetry is coming in a future software update according to Skydio.
You have full control over the joystick sensitivity.
The lower right corner is what the drone is seeing.
Nice flight. How were you able to show in the small screen how the drone was viewing ?
How did you get the 3D mapping ?
I assume this was before their AEF or enterprise software upgrade as well?
Awesome. I'm ditching my air for that.
Thank you. Very nice. I've been looking forward to making those kind of videos with the controller setup more than playing with the beacon or phone. It's nice to see it done so well. How did you get the video on the right side that shows what the drone is seeing?
@Lon Denard Yes, Kendall is a "Digital Media Producer" at Skydio. I can see why Skydio hired him, great job Ken!
I really hope they make that available.
Derek Deacon it’s not something currently available, as it takes a lot of work to generate. I’m sure it will be available one day tho.
@@KendallMartin I hope so. Its neat to have both views and see what the drone sees.
Super Sweet. .
Yo some of that looked 3d..not going to lie
Awesome. Question. is it more accurate with the controller then? some of those spaces look smaller than the 1m we have as our bubble currently. Ive put mine to a few tests its amazing. I need my controller BAAAD. Have a Merry Christmas!🎄
Sean Cook it’s the same with the controller, but you definitely get more precision control. It takes practice to know what you can and can’t fly through.
Is there a way for Skydio 2 owners to be able to produce the OA environment map video like in the bottom right corner I see in your video? It would be a great feature to show the first responders we are working with not to mention interesting feature to add to a website for potential clients to see.
Akron Drone Services not currently.
Great job. What was battery life at landing?
How do you get that thermal image in the lower right of the video??
Trying to fly a drone manually in that environment I would have crashed it more times than I could count.
Great Video Does Skydio have a return to Home feature? So if it was getting too hairy can you just tell it to come Home?
It would probably be safer to manually fly it out if it gets stuck. Skydio 2 can't see beyond walls or around corners, so there's nothing better than having a human pilot to guide it out. The obstacle avoidance does a great job of allowing you to do this without stress. However, Skydio 2 can do some pretty amazing RTH obstacle navigation on it's own, as seen here: ruclips.net/video/8WtoCrF0smo/видео.html
Its really awesome! As if your a national geographic filmmaker. you can film remote dense areas where no drone has ever film? Hope to see more capture like europe alps, castles and landscape? Im pretty sure Dji fanboy would like to see this crash ? lol!
hello. very nice video.
i see sometimes skiydio above water. i know that with others drones, flying near above water was always a problem ,
because "sensors" don't realy recognize what is it. Do the skydio do better with flying near above water ?
thank you.
I hope this one is folded dreaming to have one
Very nice..But still nothing beats the quality, security, and uninterrupted distance I achieve when on vacation in the country with my good ol Mavic Pro👍🏾#PieceOfMindPilot
I own a mavic as well, but nothing can get the types of shots Skydio 2 can get.
Thanks for doing this, I'm on the fence between this and an FPV drone. I wonder how this drone acts over water, Mainly use my drone for hiking vlog videos and many of those are to waterfalls. My mavic air acts very wonky over the water, I had to hand catch it while it was moving to avoid losing it once.
Jeremy of New Scotland has worked great over water for me. Obviously still need to be careful by water, but it definitely does better than DJI drones over water.
Kendall Martin this drone looks very promising, I’m not sure how to buy it in Canada but I’m sure there’s a way.
Jeremy of New Scotland its actually available in US and Canada.
