The Colts played them tough, but the Steelers had too many weapons on offense and that defense was historically good, one of the best ever. The Steel Curtain; of the eleven starters, 8 made the Pro Bowl, 3 were 1st Team All-Pro, and 4 were eventual HOFers.
I was a Raiders fan about 9 at this time. We were fortunate to have such great teams like the Steelers and Raiders you felt like the players were part of your community like all the dads on your block. What a special time and rivalry with Pittsburgh was the icing on the cake!
Me too. Actually, I was 6 at the time and the Andy Russell TD was the first thing I remember. I think my dad had just flipped the game on to check the score and, too young to understand what was going on, I thought that Bert Jones had thrown the ball backwards and thought it was so funny I decided that the Steelers were my team.
No doubt. This game was a hint of how much they’d miss Bert after his shoulder injury in 1978. Neither he nor the team ever fully recovered from that injury in ‘78.
Those Steeler teams were like really good pressing teams in basketball. They just made you play faster than you wanted you. And they knocked the crap out of you.
I think it was 7 Steeler turnovers (4 lost fumbles out of 4; 3 interceptions); but the Raiders tried to keep up their end with 3 lost fumbles out of 4 and 2 interceptions.
The Sports Illustrated article on the game reported that in the Steelers’ locker room, some players were chanting “Juice! Juice! Juice!” for Russell. One of the other players grinned and said: “Yeah-prune juice!”
@@keithclark7266 yeah, Ed and Steve Sabol _really_ loved filming in slow motion. I was yelling “Lateral it! Lateral it!” at the TV watching the broadcast. The “prune juice” line is from the _Sports Illustrated_ article on the game.
This was the first "Terrible Towel" game. Crazy that 45 years to the date, the Steelers would have another memorable W at home vs the Colts
As a nine-year-old Baltimore Colts fan back then, felt numb but optimistic after this loss.
THE BALTIMORE COLTS

I was 11 years old and I cried after the game.
4:39 Bill Belichik cheering on Lloyd Mumphord. Ironically, the only guy on the Colts sideline showing any optimism at that point with Domres.
The first Steelers game I ever watched at 8 years old and the introduction of the TerribleTowel

No Bert Jones, no shot

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STEELERS💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤

Somehow the next week, the Steelers had 8 turnovers and yet still beat The Raiders 16-10.

Steelers led the NFL in turnovers in 1979 and still won the super bowl
RIP Andy Russell

3 year season islands 75,76,77 in a ocean of bad Colt teams 1972 thur 1983 when they moved to Indy. 0-3 in playoffs those years.
Could have timed Andy Russell’s return with a sundial.

@Mikey300 • The NFL films clip makes Andy Russell's run slower than it actually is. NBC's clip of the play and Russell is running faster

The Steelers were the better team, but if Jones played the whole game, this could very well have gone the other way.
I had forgotten how bad Marty Domres was....................in fact, I had forgotten about Marty Domres period before seeing this clip.
Domres sucked
