Everyone is over reacting on his performance. He looked slow as fuck to begin the fight and only was able to get the upper hand when Smith gassed himself out and started taking damage. Glover is good, but Jones, Santos, Reyes, and Jan would all beat him pretty easily.
Cameback cause I remembered this awesome rant Chael depicted him in this better than any newspaper could: a passionate guy that is trying his best while being awesome and inspirational to everyone around him
Looking at Glovers resume and the nature of some of his losses for him to come back getting wins after his losses Glovers tough even by cage fighter standards
Yes, His losses are only to guys that are in form and close or ready for a title fight. He has beaten some of the better light heavyweights, Never been submitted and when he has lost its been more decisions than by being finished. Glover is a very solid and game fighter for sure, At the age of 40 still going strong is damned impressive to me. Cheers fella and all the best your way. Dean
I just realised that on every video of yours, I only really hear about 30 seconds of what you're saying... The rest of the time, my mind is trying to decide which wall in the background is actually closer to you..
He really raised his stock in my book. I was thinking he was just a gatekeeper but he brought the fight to the number 2 guy. His endurance looked really good for his age
@@radiationbacon lol, that's true in a sense. There's something missing from Smith's reportoire that makes it seem he's higher up than he should be. Gatekeeper aura?
Danbury, not waterbury. saw him literally today at Stew Leonards grocery store lol. his gym is actually in bethel thou, it's right on the danbury town line border EDIT: actually listening to the rest, probably back when u went there yea possibly Waterbury. but as of now he's in danbury/bethel. it's probably 30 mins west of waterbury
Nice I thought Glover could get him too. Smith isn't the same fighter once he starts taking shots. Some guys give up some guys push through it and still try and win. Anthony is in the middle. He doesn't quit and give up but he starts trying to just survive and gives up on winning in my opinion. Specially in the Jones fight. Barely a round or 2 into that1 he completely gave up on winning and was just trying to get hit the least possible
Also the fact that there is no live audience, makes it easier to deal with the pressure. A live audience definitely makes it much harder to control your thoughts.
Excellent fighter, I'm just getting back into MMA after ten years of not watching and had never seen him fight before. Uncle Chael is the reason I got back into watching Fight Night and bought 249.
not shocking about Waterbury CT being underground.. when I was playing baseball I was smashing the heck out of of baseballs in Seymour, CT. Put the work in, results will come. I was cracking 90mph fastballs at 10 years old, but lost that spark. I'm sure others who've had success going through the grind no matter where they were... RIP Dan Ford, thanks for all the years you've helped me! A true class act! And ya, rowing machines are super rough :D
I believe that Glover's gym is in Danbury, CT. The reason he's there is Danbury has, I believe, the highest population is the NY, NJ, CT tristate area.
I don't know if Glover and Overeem have fought yet. But i think that's a really good fight to make at this point. To seasoned vets both good close in the clinch. Imo it will be fire works
Glover is training with us American top team in Danbury now. He trains under Feliz who is an ex world class boxer. He is really approachable and a great guy. It’s funny how Gus bear Glover then Gus lost to Smith then Glover beats Smith.Glover told me he fought Jones with a broken hand and he poked him in the eye the whole fight.
Glover is the most underated fighter in the ufc because we assumed his time has passed which would make a lot of sense. But in his past dozen fights he's only lost to the number one contender Gustafson when he was number 1, Rumble when he was number 1, Jones the Goat, and a loss to Corey Anderson who's a top 3 or 5 guy on any given night.....and beat everyone else, so I am guilty of it myself not considering him a top 5 guy in the world even though he has been for the past 10 years
What i thought was impressive about Glover was despite not making weight 3 weeks before the fight he was still able to not only win the fight but knock the teeth out of Smith. How is that even possible. I was shocked. Its like he's a rebel, going against all the established training rules and guidelines to victory. Good for him.
I agree the one thing that I disagreed with my dad and brother on was that you always need to practice with guys better or equal to you. I liked working on my moves against guys that I can beat easily once in a while. In fact my buddy that was my practice partner for the most part was perfect because he was stronger than most guy's I wrestle but he was new to the sport so I could work my techniques on him.
Glover didn't get dominated 1st and half of second, he took some good shots but not many. He could have probably finished smith sooner instead of working submissions on the ground. Smith just shuts down mentally when he hits guys hard and they don't go down
On the topic; I always felt like Nate Diaz is losing all his matches up until the moment that the flip is switched then he seems to be he begins sapping there energy bar adding there energy straight into his. And it's a matter of time from then.
I don’t recall glover ever being in trouble in that fight I thought Anthony was tired from the beginning and realized real quick he didn’t want to trade with him.
People call Glover a classy guy but he was a brutal savage a-hole in that fight. Several times he had Smith at his mercy and one flurry would have given the ref the chance to end it. But he always stopped throwing and just grabbed Smith and slowly unloaded bombs on him. Only in the 4th did he do the flurry he could easily have done 12 minutes sooner to give the ref the out. (which the ref took fast).
Chael missed what the rowing machine also does. It's amazing at working muscles you will need to be a strong top guy. (the focus is on the rowing but the side bonus is on certain stability) I hadn't thought of it, until Chael said it. A rowing machine is a decent program for the top game I think. A rower with ropes or bungee.....hmmmmmm....
5 rounds plays such a huge roll in the outcome of these fights. So many times it simply comes down to who has better conditioning which idk if I really love. Its supposed to be about who's the better fighter. When they were both fresh and at 100% it was clear as day that Smith was the better man. The better fighter doesn't always win. Fair play tho he paced himself and had the better conditioning to beat Smith. 25 minutes is just such a long time to be fighting at that level its almost crazy to ask them to fight that long. I'd rather see two guys go all out for 3 rounds than watch them have to slow down and pace themselves and keep the volume low enough so they don't gas out before the 25 mins is up. Its more entertaining and safer for the fighters. Seeing Smith have nothing left for two whole rounds and just take a beating was hard to watch. It makes even more sense not to have 5 rounds for the bigger weight classes. Maybe 4 rounds would be better but 5 is too many 9 times out of 10.
One more bad thing about the non stoppage was ia lot of Glory was taken away from Glover. He was so respectful and genuinely worried about his pink Smith that he couldn't even really celebrate. That Said: it looks to me like Glover Teixeira is playing by a whole new set of rules.
I love when Chael tells these stories about the fighters
I do too, especially when he always inserts something into the story that never happened 😂
"It's just a junior"
I love every story from Chael
Yes, Chaels the best in the business at these mma stories. I always wonder why he never tells any Tom Erikson stories.
Glover is and has always been a classy guy.

Virginbreaker Smith fought Jones for the title just a year ago. That means he was the #1 contender.
Virginbreaker and after his loss to jones he beat Gustafson. Who was also a #1 contender.
Not impressed with A. Smith. He can be beaten imo on any night by anyone in top ten.
