Most pro fighters have extremely traumatic pasts. This is not uncommon at all- they start fighting to deal with frustration or being forced to defend themselves- and decide to train to harness that anger and master their movement. Something clicks in their brain to make them actually enjoy the violence and I think it’s because they finally have a say in the participation of this “pain”. It’s therapeutic and freeing to them after they have the power to embrace the suck. This is quite typical tbh & I know because I’m dating someone that used to box/jui jitsu and got in a LOT of trouble in the past due to his strength.

The world is nuts, and honestly why I went through some dark times (not just bc of the state of things but medical issues, etc) and just kinda lost my way in terms of just fading into the background. But everyday even when feeling awful I would make it a point to be decent to others and be able to put myself in their shoes and understand everyone has struggles, and some people’s are truly debilitating to functioning normally aka healthily. It’s tough for people that really get effected by the horrible stuff that goes on, and just thinking why are these things happening? why are we allowing these things to happen with no major changes being made to maybe make a difference in areas. We’re living in a weird world and it’s only going to get crazier imo. I did figure out that what I really want to do in life is help others, in one way or another. I mean I really get his trauma and I feel for him but at the same time I don't think it's okay to go around involving fighters personal life. because I get that his trauma is more low, but then don't provoke people you know what I mean? maybe just his defense mechanism to attack everyone but you can't just justify all the things that he says. again this is a serious question since you are a therapist. Amen brother we need more men willing to show their pain and be able too smash your head inside out if you want too mock that. I just wondered at first if Theo was tearing up because he made Sean cry…. I would have thought this is my last podcast. You can’t be a Richard Simmons trying too be a leader in us showing our internal war as men. This man is the perfect one too show it’s ok. I’ve done time and struggled with anger as a result of a brain injury from a snowboarding accident when i 14 changed my behaviour growing up for the worst, but the most anger I kept pent up was from that feeling of being alone too battle it, I talked too friends and family and they don’t understand your internal fight which in turn makes it worse too fight. I’m a believer in not seeking out the answer it will be given to you when the time is right. I still haven’t found it but videos like this help a lot especially when you can relate but see that strength from Sean that most of us don’t want too let out in fear of being seen weak. This guys good role model a good inspiration, made mistakes in life as we all do, learned from it and uses his platform to give people the help he never had. He’s there in that seat for a reason he suffered for a reason and it’s too help men struggling too talk about what’s eating them inside. I love this guy because I’m Canadian and he bashed Trudeau good up here lol

I was having so much suicidal thoughts 10 years ago as a teenage, also suffered severe anxiety and mental disorder. I got diagnosed with bipolar, spent my whole life fighting bipolar. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment changed my life for better. I can proudly say i'm totally clean for 6 years and still counting. I'm not a single father man...My dad was tho & he got custody 9f me and my sister. He was a strict fundamentalist (nothing wrong with that), my mom left because of these strict rules.....But I was the oldest and beared, the brunt of my dad's frustration w/wife leaving & I was very mouthy.. I say all that to say, That in this day and age they would say I was abused. But I wouldn't have become the homeschooling father that I am now. I wasn't a teacher before Covid. But all the things I seen as over done punishments is what made me. Diamonds aren't made in a vacuum. Pressure is how we get these gems. The 80/90's were a different time. It's more strange for a man to strangle those emotions down then it is to sit and talk trauma out. I went on to ride bulls and suffered TBI's that led into epileptic seizures. But all of those things I misunderstood as abuse is what give me the spine to stand up and get up everyday. My mother di3d suddenly in 2019 and I used to say the best thing my mother ever did for us, Was that she left us... But now that she has passed on, I see why Mt dad was the way he was. Doesn't chamg3 history but I understand now and my teenage angst is gone. Very good clip Theo.

With you. My experience was every category of abuse, bouts of couch surfing as a kid, sleeping in a business storage room, the bullying that goes along with poverty. Got therapy, which helped, but there was still that hole in my soul. I had an ephifany...free will is love, free will can be influenced, Satan and his legions influenced my hazers to get me to blame God (where Sean is stuck here, which I get, but hope he sees it the adversary who whispered into the mind of his dad)...and that God is who gave me, Sean, you, us the capacity to survive.
We are men, now, and the choice of good or evil is ours, every moment of every day.
Therapy was useful, but seeking Christ earnestly changed everything for me. I didn't know that type of love existed...had no concept of it...or how He would change me. That all that pain of past could be retroactively converted into usefulness..into purpose ..into a gift.
He is the ANTIDOTE, which is why the wicked that has ruled the world has programmed us against ever reading his instruction and love directly for ourselves.

The fact Strickland let himself be vulnerable on camera, shows an absolute ton about how much he respects you and your environment. Also I learned from a very expensive corporate therapist through leadership training, that when people open up to you about trauma, technically your supposed to just let them know you hear them and that you are there for them. Not share personal examples in attempt to relate, which is what most people do by instinct. This is because everyone's experiences are different.

Me too. I went through trauma as a kid and then became a police officer in a big city. There was death and suffering everywhere. I'm not sure about Sean's fixation on killing someone. I had to kill someone and it is a terrible thing, but it was kill or be killed.
In my mid 40's I became emotional, like I had never been. I find myself talking openly about things from the past. I love my wife, so intently that it is painful, now.
I have seen so much death that it permeates my life. I've become an emotional man and I reflect constantly on things I've experienced or done. I am terribly hard on myself, but I have been working on that and getting better.
It seems like I used to rarely feel sadness. I went straight through and kept moving forward, but now I feel sadness from the past, present and future.
This has been going on for about 4 years but it has slowly gotten a little better.
I'm sorry that you are going through this but I'm glad you commented. It's hard for me to understand why I started reflecting so deeply in my 40's. It's been painful but I have grown. Treat yourself with kindness and maybe try to understand yourself. I hope that you can find some growth from this and move forward as a better person with a better life.

I facilitate healing for a living and have learned that immediately offering someone a tissue when they start crying does them a huge disservice..... if they ask for a tissue, sure --- but I believe one of the biggest reasons we don't resolve our traumas is because we don't allow space to fully experience and understand what's even happening inside ourselves.
