      @@ponderersounds3172 I spent the entire day today playing with it. This pedal sounds many times better than any other Walrus Audio pedal. I have owned and own many of them including the Slö and the Slötva. I wonder if someone besides Jason Stulce helped with the algorithm design? The algorithms are on a higher level of quality than anything else from Walrus Audio. This is some of the nicest sounding work done on the FV-1 chip to date.
      Now, I would love to see Walrus Audio do a stereo pedal that has mode IV from Lore and mode IV from Fable with the stretch control and the same low pass filter control knob and super wide stereo mode as Slöer. I also much prefer the black/cream version of Slöer as I think it matches the more elegant and expensive sound and would love to see a new stereo pedal with Lore/Fable algorithms in a similar enclosure ;)

    First - great demo. I always look forward to yours!
    Huge downer that the reverb can't be applied to your signal when latching in Dream mode. None of the Slo's can do it but the R1 can, had hoped this would have been an obvious upgrade. Its nice when you're running into other reverbs but its a silly limitation these days. I really wish it had been a 'smarter' pedal that took more advantage of the Mako line control tech. Having owned a SLARP, Slotva and now looking at a Sloer - its really irritating to see the tech taking baby steps when you know Walrus has already far outrun these in its other lines - and they're still dropping these for +$300. Its one thing to support a growing brand with a hit like the Slo being mono and no presets. Its another thing to - years later and an entire tech upgrade later (Mako runs on SHARC chips) - offer the same tech with the same limits but in stereo. And still Dream is the only latching reverb. Players need to start understanding that the limitations of this are imaginary. There is no reason you can't choose between latching and sustain for each. Its all software.
    In the wake of what companies like Hologram are putting out, I admit its difficult to get excited for this release, even considering the Slo is one of my favorite all-time reverbs. I also don't like how Walrus keeps undercutting their own line-up with these baby-step releases. The value of the SLARP and Slo dumped with the Slotva, the slotva dumped with the Sloer, etc. I think innovation looks more like allowing old pedals to hold their value because they are special, and not just milking iterations indefinitely.

    • @ponderersounds3172
      @ponderersounds3172  Год назад +2

      Firstly thanks so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it and I’m glad you look forward to my work.
      I get where you’re coming from I think, but I think you’re wrong on a few counts. The Slöer runs two entirely independent algorithms for left and right, unlike many of the industry standards from the past decade that use a cheap trick to make a stereo pedal. The freezing effect is using that reverb algorithm to create the sustain so in order to have reverb after there needs to be another chip to create a reverb after it. The Slöer, having two algorithms, could do this but it would have to be in mono, one into the other, I’m in favour for having a stereo pedal be stereo all the time. Some pedals out there that do the sustain or loop thing and allow effect post sustained pad actually don’t have the truest form of stereo imaging going on. There’s a really great article from Mr Black that breaks down the difference.
      On the topic of Walrus making a lot of releases, they do have a large lineup, but I understand it. They have different releases for different customers, not everyone wants or needs everything crammed into a pedal. I actually manage a large pedal store and daily see how a comprehensive lineup appeals to lots of different customers, and Walrus are one of those brands that sells a lot because they have varying levels of complexity that appeal to certain individuals. Don’t get me wrong, I personally would love to see the Slöer with MIDI and four real time reverbs to do stereo sustaining but it would be expensive and a pretty small market as far as who would buy it for that particular purpose.

    • @ReddenDoom
      @ReddenDoom Год назад

      @@ponderersounds3172 I really appreciate your response and its super cool that you run a store! From that perspective I suppose I could see Walrus' offerings being a huge plus for the reasons you've stated. For me as an early adopter of a lot of their tech, it gets frustrating when you have to lose money from supporting early releases.
      When it comes to true stereo, I always thought the Walrus R1 was true stereo. In that pedal you can sustain *any algorithm* while also choosing whether or not you want continued effect or not - its one of its coolest features (bypassing the pedal with a latched sustain keeps the sustain going - therefore you can have your signal wet or dry along with the sustain). I have a myriad of frustrations with the Mako line (clip at the output super easily forcing low mix values) but this was a huge win.
      Its a pretty big deal that the Sloer runs completely unique algorithms for both LR channels. I find Walrus is often pretty bad at PR'ing their tech specs and it can lead to users like me being frustrated. Its really cool to hear that this is true stereo. Really makes me wonder why the Lore and Fable weren't though when they both had dual DSP. I wonder if FV-1 can be stereo off one chip? I don't think they ever made a big deal about Mako being SHARC based and I often wonder if it would have boosted sales.

    What an absolutely fantastic video explaining everything about the Slöer reverb without a word.
    Just loved the graphics and all about how you did it.

      Gear - 2022 Groves Custom 62' Telecaster, UA Dream & Juno 25 - Audient Preamps for Piano, Synth & Sample tones.
      I used an amp sim on the left (UA Dream, can’t remember the specifics) and a real amp on the right (the Juno is a Bassman style amp) I always dial them in quite close but not quite.
      The Tele is a custom build by a master here in Australia, almost a straight up ‘62 standard but with a little more across the string spacing at the nut, and a slightly more baseball bat feel to the neck, pickups are both Righteous Sound, 90’s Gazer in the neck and Tele Foil in the bridge.
