    Thank you for your very comprehensive presentation. Can you please give some advice on how to relax and elongate the structures in order to ‘get the disk out of the way’?
    Much gratitude from Norway

    I don't know if this may help someone out there but please be very gentle as you may cause more damage to yourself
    Recently I could only open to 2 fingers without pain. What helped me get my jaw back to 4 fingers wide was opening my mouth as wide as I can without pain and then using my thumbs and first two fingers together on the back corners of my jaw and pushed lightly, not hard, up and inward toward the center of my head as I tried to open and close very gently. There is a sudden jolt in my left TMJ and then the jaw relaxes and opens all the way.
    This was after having my wisdom teeth removed. I wasn't experiencing much pain from my teeth but my left TMJ was really hurting and causing A LOT of pain when I tried to open my mouth. I suspect having my jaw open during the procedure may have shifted something with my disc but I'm not sure.

    I hit my face really hard when I was a child, throughout puberty I noticed my face was really asymmetrical and my mouth always hurt. I’m 19 now and doctors told me I had TMD. They made me a splint, and I was supposed to get surgery, however, how do I fix the asymmetry?

    Whats the treatment???

    So question is, how does the disc become further anteriorly displaced so as to restore a jaw to open to a reasonable measure? Also, I agree about surgery but what about taking the disc out? I guess we can live without the disc? I'm scheduled for an MRI so as to have a procedure where two incisions are opened in my cheek and the joint is flushed and a steroid is injected in the hopes of reducing the swelling of the disc. My opening has been severely compromised for a few months now. Thanks for the video.

      arthrocentesis makes most maxillofacial surgeons roll their eyes
      the ones that perform it mostly see it as a placebo
      there is a good chance your problems are myofascial/habitual in nature
      try to get yourself an NTI-TSS or an equivalent anterior midpoint stop device
      prior to surgery always a therapeutic approach, the above devices help to redirect parafunctional forces that occur most often when you sleep (clench/grind)
      you could have a B-splint for daytime use if you're a daytime clenched
      TMD is difficult to cure and surgery is irreversible

      I don’t understand what’s to hard with these surgeries. Couldn’t they just make a new disc? They even can replace the whole jaw…

    • @bw6078
      @bw6078 Год назад +1

      @@highparadise11 I wound up having my surgery. They "cleaned up the arthritis in the joint" and trimmed the disc. The joint is a little noisy but at least I can open my mouth now. To answer your question they can replace the disc with fat I believe but it doesn't last.

    • @highparadise11
      @highparadise11 Год назад

      @@bw6078 yes good for you! And even if it doesn’t last, I would rather do it over again if that would help fixing the problem for a few years or even just only a year. I’m not positive though about my “diagnosis”. I feel fluid moving inside the jaw/ear/head area and according to MRI of the jaw there’s no fluid there.
      I also have other issues with sinuses but I’m thinking this is parotid gland related or sinuses.
      Did you get more pain drinking? Anything? Expect water? Milk, coffee, bubbly sparkle water etc? My pain increases if I do and I’m thinking this has something to do with the parotid gland which area often swells related to meals

  • @highparadise11
    @highparadise11 Год назад

    So does a disc displacement while opening the mouth cause or could cause extreme pain and pressure inside the scull. Getting worse by laying down, giving the feeling of fluid moving and pushing against to give reference against the ear/temple but deep within. No pain palpating face masseter etc. accumulated fluid right underneath the ear as far up as possible. Swelling of lymph nodes on the neck? Pain is felt more but always there opening the mouth can trick the brain to not experience as much pain.

    • @highparadise11
      @highparadise11 Год назад

      Also no issues with opening my mouth or eating. But even with just sparkling water with some sort of flavor gets the pain going more. I’m thinking this might be something with the parotid gland and not only a TMD thing
