Apparently the original pitch was to use the same idea from Dial H for Hero, where the character transforms into a random hero using a rotary dial on their wrist? Something like that

yeah actually he was going to switch with alternate versions of himself from different dimensions so like a fish ben and so on

At the start of the series that's true! But it can be "unlocked" for unlimited use - we see a future version of Ben that's got in unlocked at some point in the series
