      There's a double rail catwalk block, rails only. If you stack them with the rail side touching they become invisible. I had a giant 50x50 two story with a root farm that looked like it was floating 16 blocks above a foundation.

    Ahhh, I've missed these videos. Your insane base builds are incredible, but I always look forward to your block testing videos each update. So thorough, informative, and entertaining bud. There was, however, one thing surprisingly missing; Taco!!! Where was the "Hey, Taco, come try to climb this", or the "I saw it Taco.... it was a drive-by head shooting that came out of nowhere!", or maybe the "Come on Taco, climb this super-tall ladder to get in to the base".
    After all your upcoming testing videos and new base ideas I think the viewers NEED to eventually see a custom built Taco obstacle course base where she has to make it from one end to the other without falling. I'm sure you could do some "surprises" like garage doors pushing through a seemingly innocent wall and such. If you do this video I will deny all ownership of this idea for the purpose of protecting myself from an angry Taco, lol

      @@pseudoposse So, update regarding the 4-way block. I hate to kill this idea but it didn't work well with a difficult horde night. They are, somehow, able to push each other through those openings when they pile up. We had multiple zombies make it through to attack us. It's possible I did something incorrectly, but I followed your instructions. Quite a few were pushed in to the floor so only their shoulders and head were seen, but they could move and hit us, lol

      @pseudoposse  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@theguru143 Both taco and I spotted that too! Glad to see others testing! Yeah they totally glitch through the poles if they pile up too much in lategame hordes especially if you use the corridor design in which zombies drop through the poles in the very narrow corridor. However there is an easy fix for that upcoming ;)

    I love that you put in so much effort making these videos.
    I refuse to use creative mode. I may occasionally build a quick and dirty cobblestone version of an obstacle or fighting position next to a cop car and then trigger the alarm for testing reasons. I generally like to keep my bases kinda original... But I am not gonna lie, your videos are so helpful. I dont mind dying on horde night but wasting an entire night due to a critical error sucks.
    Right now my favorite base is simply a single block, normally the scaffolding ladder. I just pop it over a 1 cube opening. They climb the ladder and I shoot or stun baton them... I just got to night 35 and not one has gotten through. Day 7 was cobblestone. By day 14 I wrenched enough gas pumps to make a steel scaffolding ladder.
    I basically use it just like the ladder that leads to the diagonal railing. Right now I am using a radio tower... The entire base cost me about 40 blocks because I made an anti vulture cage... My horde nights have become pretty boring if I am being honest... LOL!

    • @pseudoposse
      @pseudoposse  3 месяца назад

      I'm glad you appreciate all of our hard work! I hear ya, when I actually play the game, I dislike using creative mode at that point. But for demonstrations, pretty necessary.
      If it gets too boring, you can always try a different design, mix it up. Half the fun is in failure and tweaking the design!

    As always GOAT content, there was a couple blocks that let you build floating bases or force fields, one was a catwalk with rails on both sides and when placed one on top of another in certain position the block becomes invisible and un tangible, dunno if that still works on A22, there was also a pipe block that worked as a force field wall, again dunno if it still works haven't been able to play the new patch yet.

    They used to have the wedge tips so if zombies fell on to them they'd stick to them. But then they'd have issues with them running on to them and then running in place - that was a long time ago. I had built a big pitfall with those and they would land on one then proceeded to beat the crap out of the walls made from those. Then also around that same time period they had it so even if you had a straight down wall they could still 'land' on a seam and would beat the tar out of the blocks they were facing, dig a tunnel out and around or down to you. Dogs were great at landing on seams and are generally great at digging.

    The Pole 4-way block with the Catwalk floor looks very good - one question - what does this 4-way block UP-GRADE to? Can it be brought up to Steel?
    You also show ways to slow the Zombies down a bit for melee - melee is such fun, which I like, so the final strength of the block may dictate how much they need slowing down to cope with repairs in the mad rush. We eventually use electricity and steel blocks in our melee - shooting base style.
    Also, thanks so much for your ladder and railing diagonal up the top. We used this simple idea by making a nice self-contained live-in tower of three 5x5x4 rooms with all tables put in as we built upwards and enclosed the top with a cage to stop the birds. One ladder inside went up to the top fighting area and we put a ladder with the Railing Diagonal at the top up three sides for redundancy. It worked well, but we did not get to use it with Demolishers - I'm sure it would still be fine. Regards.

      @pseudoposse  5 месяцев назад

      I am thrilled the railing diagonal has worked well for you! That is correct, the pole 4-way block can be fully upgraded to steel, the full 10k hitpoints.

    i actually like it when TFP nerf them into the ground because its fun to figure out new tactics. though i actually miss the days before smart zombies, i want them to just spawn at each side and just beat on your walls from all sides to get to you. all they needed to do to make it harder would be increase the zombies. radiated zombies will still tear through steel blocks fast.

    Great information! One question: don't a lot of these zombie dropper designs have vulnerability to zombies going into "Destroy Everything Mode" when they land are within X blocks of player? Is building high a good means to mitigate that vulnerability? How high? My understanding is, it used to be "11 blocks" so a platform built at 12 blocks would work, but it seems that distance may have been increased to more like 16 or 17 blocks?

    • @pseudoposse
      @pseudoposse  5 месяцев назад

      Anytime you drop zombies, you will have to deal with the zombie rage mechanic. As you mentioned, as long as they are further than 11 blocks from the player, there is a near zero chance they'll start destroying everything. I say near zero as a small percentage of zombies will still start beating on your supports.
      Aside from that strategy, you could dump zombies into some water which will also stop rage mode. Electric traps will achieve similar effect as well.

    For some reason when ever we have horde night bases, the zombies always tend to start beating the walls / pillars even if there is route to the entrance where we are. Thought it was an AI change but might not be that.

    • @pseudoposse
      @pseudoposse  4 месяца назад +1

      If they are beating on your walls/pillars, several things could be going on:
      1) Zombies can see a direct route to your position through the walls/pillars and feel it is easier to go that way versus the route
      2) There is no inadvertent/accidental path through your walls pillars, but your supports are so weak, they feel it is faster to break through and collapse you rather then follow the path
      3) The route is too long and they feel it is easier to break through
      4) Something is wrong with the path and thus they cannot reach you
      Try positioning yourself on various points along the route to see if they follow it. If they do, see at what point they'd rather beat on the walls/supports. Based on that, try to identify the issue and fix it. Good luck!

      I have my zombies set to the fastest speed so speed isn't the issue. If they are punching the walls, that might indicate they are getting stuck. If you have sharp contours or corners, consider putting in some wedges to make it more gradual . When zombies get stuck, they will tend to beat on surrounding blocks. That is where I'd recommend starting at to fix that issue.

The majority of players in the game play with "QoL" mods and instead of the developers addressing these QoL changes which could elevate their product to new players, they instead focus on money grabs with add on creatures etc. If your community needs a mod to make traps viable as a base defense, it might be wise to have a discussion and roadmap on how to address that issue. hey.. have you noticed how dogs, wolves etc can walk up the side of walls now? seems like the devs made a cheat to allow them to slide up certain blocks..
    whats the best way to remove this cheating ability they have? for example... if i do a jump to ladder into my base on the 3rd block above the ground, and full blocks
    behind it, dogs cant climb up into my base but the problem with this ladder setup is if ur too close to the wall sometimes it wont let u jump cos ur under the bottom of the ladder
    so the normal solution was to put 2 plates under the ladder so u can 100% of the time jump up... what ive noticed since alpha 21 is if i put those plates there.. dogs can
    magically slide up those plates and get into my base.. did you ever do a test to see which blocks dogs can cheat with and which they cannot cheat? thanks

    • @pseudoposse

      You can definitely get them to fall off while jumping in a variety of ways. Forcing them to jump up narrow pillars can do the trick. Also the pillars, triangle plate 1/4, plate 1/4, etc, plus bars can get zombies to fall via jumping. You could even use the half block trick i showed and add a block in front to get them to jump though it does work better having them just run through.

    Is using God Mode to build your horde bases in a regular playthrough considered cheating? I know building anything without God mode is mostly possible, but is anything impossible to build without God Mode turned on? I assume it helps a lot with wiring things together too, that couldn't be done without it. I just want to know if I should be using God mode when I play or not, since I'm sort of a newer player, and have only played the game the way it's intended, i.e. no mods, and no God Mode.

    • @pseudoposse
      @pseudoposse  3 месяца назад +1

      Most people would consider using god mode in a regular playthrough cheating and if playing the game as intended, using god mode will trivialize all game content. It does help make building faster as you can fly around. For some bases, the time saving is minimal but for complex or bases that are suspended, the time savings can be massive. However, a determined player can build anything that can be built in god mode.
      As for wiring, it can easily be done not in god mode if set up correctly. In this video, I do a base build in which I show how to set up an easy wiring base: ruclips.net/video/Bu5ZbCN7MmU/видео.html.
      Since you are a newer player, I would recommend playing without mods until you learn the basics of the game as many mods make the game harder.
