As for DEI. Keep in mind that when Illumination wanted Peach to be the hero of the Mario movie it was Nintendo that said "No, rewrite it and make Mario the hero of his movie."
While I hope it was a push against "change for change sake", it may be more about their mascot/image protection than specifically being anti-DEI. They know Mario is the draw. They are hyper protective against pollution/corruption to their image (painfully so sometimes). Sure, Mario in his movie may not have been sidelined, but it’s far from being unaffected by progressive ideology. -Peach is a girl boss instead of an intelligent, but dainty and sweet woman. People excuse this by saying “they needed to give her a more active role” but 1) you don’t have to be in a fight to be useful or active, and 2) even in games where she DOES fight directly, she still has that feminine poise about her. Not here though. She’s just the typical smug, girl boss. The funny thing is, people say her character archetype was “a stereotypical princess” but so few protagonist female characters actually GET to be like that any more and haven’t for at least a decade. Not even just because “their story doesn’t have a princess” but just having a more timid/composed female character. -Peach definitely wouldn’t be grabbing a halberd and charging into battle, but use magic or minions. You might have enemies using spears in games, but the most you’d see even Mario using as a weapon is a cartoonishly-sized hammer. Nothing that could stab or maim or slice. It’s out of place for any of the good guys to use, let alone Peach. -Mario doesn’t get to save Peach at any point despite being a common staple in most of the games. -Luigi is the “damsel in distress” because that trope has been banned for the last 10-15 years, unless it’s a man that’s in distress or a woman… but only if she frees herself because “she’s a strong independent woman”. -Mario hates mushrooms, just to be subversive. They’ll say it’s to be “funny”, but it’s really just to have a scene where a male character is disgusted by something. Which is different than finding something uncomfortable and overcoming it as a challenge, because you can’t “overcome” tastebuds and it doesn’t accomplish anything. Most of Mario’s powerups aren’t even mushrooms anyway so it’s not like you could use it as “he’s overcoming the taste to gain powers to save people” as a selfless act, because stars, tanuki leaves, and cat bells are just absorbed instead of eaten. -It’s titled Super Mario *_Brothers_* Movie, yet the _brothers_ are separated for 90% of the movie, and don’t get to grow/develop alongside each other in the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s only right at the end. There’s probably more I’m forgetting that would be a result of political ideology (switching between scenes too quickly wouldn’t be one, just a general movie issue), but those are off the top of my head. It jam packs in enough references and doesn’t take a big obvious dump on everything, so people will say it’s amazing because standards have gotten so low. The change to Peach is the most obvious, but people gaslight themselves into thinking it’s needed or okay, because apparently if you aren’t punching something you’re worthless. I can see not wanting to have Peach locked away for most of the movie, and that could be done. But I also think developing her more in the 2nd movie would be better, and have the 1st movie focus much more on the brothers themselves.
I might be white pilling a bit too much here, but I like to think part of that decision came from Concord failing. The investors saw that and didn’t want Nintendo to repeat what Sony did.

A friend might be giving me his copy of the TTYD remake and I know I'm gonna be pissed at that "I'm their sister, not their brother" line, which was not in _any_ version of the original games.
Also treehouse is bound to get rid of them sooner or later. As for reverting changes, if it will happen, it’s going to be in the switch gen or next gen.
If you haven’t already, it’s easy to mod your Switch and there’s mods to change those lines. They’re not on GameBanana because of “intent” even though it’s just restoring part of the OG GC dialogue. And even though they let some guy make black race-swapped “BLM” versions of every Smash Bros fighter. But you can find it on “RPG HQ”. At all, or they’ll start and give up partway through. @@sumomaster5585 Nintendo is not trying to compete with Sony or Microsoft on pushing hardware advancements. If they released their games on multiple platforms, it may not be in their best interest. They would likely have to push their hardware as well to compete, resulting in longer development times and less games.
Nintendo suffers from many of the same issues as other companies (e.g., activist employees), but they seem to hold them back pretty well, at least in comparison to other companies. Nintendo and Pokémon did make tweets about [that police incident in 2020], but they did it later than other companies did. I don't think they've acknowledged many other activist movements either, like Pride Month or the abortion bill changes. The Treehouse can get pretty bad (they got backlash for how they handled Fire Emblem Fates and Xenoblade Chronicles X), but Nintendo at least doesn't censor games that they don't develop, unlike Sony. Outside of that, Nintendo seems to have a better handle on the financials than other companies too (you don't see them having mass layoffs). Nintendo's games also work at launch more often than not (this is mostly a Pokémon problem, mind you), so there's that too. Hopefully they're smart enough to hold back their rowdy employees and weather the cultural shifts.
They also didn't use a black background for that tweet, it was likely something their legal team made them do because they would get into a lot of trouble had they not, and I'm not talking trouble from comments. Big businesses are strong-armed into a lot of this stuff against their will, had Nintendo abstained from that tweet, they may have suddenly had issues with their bank for instance, or contacted by the UN. Also the Pokemon Company is pretty bad, and likely would have gone full-on with that tweet now, but they are a separate entity that just hides behind Nintendo whenever it makes a mistake, as it regularly does.
A decade or so ago, you would point at private companies and say "why can't government offices get rid of extra bloat like that, it is a waste of tax money" and now we have private companies becoming more bloated than government offices. Such a mad world.
Nintendo has also 100+ years in general business. Has hella merchandising and media licenses. Ubisoft has Assassins Creed and many, many, many failed attempts at general media and merchandising. They are not the same.
I only care about Nintendo in terms of gaming kingdom. They’ve been giving me satisfactiry products through almost my whole life. I really really really hope they’ll stand up against the blackrock cancer.
Nintendo and Steam are honestly the only things in gaming I enjoy at this point. Also, anyone notice the "Mario Meets Rabbids" game, and "StarLink Meets StarFox" NintyXUbisoft crossover games on Switch work better then Ubisoft's newer games? It's almost like when a company works with Nintendo, that they have to make a more complete game. And yeah, I know Nintendo a few years ago was also guilty of making incomplete games with "Switch Sports," and the new "Mario Strikers," but unlike Ubisoft and other triple-A companies, Nintendo learned a lesson from the backlash over those, and apparently listen to fans. A rarity in the gaming industry. I'm not saying Nintendo is perfect, and they do crumby things sometimes too, but at this point I respect them way more then Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Capcom USA, Konami, ect.
I also would guess the incomplete games are a symptom of the developers themselves. The Mario sports games are always incomplete and bad, and always developed by the same team. There was also that team that made the bad Yoshi games, and HEY Pikmin, and Chibi Robo Zip Lash who were clearly always incompetent. Most noticeably so because they then left Nintendo to work on Balan WonderWorld. As for the Switch Sports game? I don't know how that happened other than the fact that it was potentially impacted by 2020 and they needed to throw out something that year so something had to be pushed out early and incomplete. But that's just a guess.
i think you mean ubisoft is thq and sony is sega becuse they want third party after the dreamcast which looks sony is doing the same mistakes sega did back in day
It's quite simple. Nintendo is one of the few publishers that operate the same way the industry did over 20-30 years ago. Most of their games are made by smaller teams, budgets are reasonable, they work within the limitations of the hardware and games are compressed down to an affordable size (i.e Smash Bros Ultimate was shrunk down from 60GB to 16GB). The industry could learn so much on how to run a studio if they just looked to the past. Hell I don't know how Sony keeps fucking up when they can learn so much from the PS2 era.
I decided to look it up, grummz is correct, but that's not Nintendo of America, it's Nintendo in total, including all "Nintendo of [region]" subsidiaries. Nintendo of Japan has about 2k employees. Interesting aside, Nintendo apparently has a less than 2% turnover rate. I guess that's what you get when you focus on a specific mission (make fun games) and are loyal to employees.

Speaking of coding, at least within Europe, it's general practice to code and document things in English. This happens even if your entire team speaks the local language natively, because teams change. I've seen code bases of native companies that did code in their native language and that can only reasonably do business in their native country, and new coders still IMMEDIATELY ask why the code is not in English. The answer to that question is NEVER "because we're in Germany/France/whatever". The answer is usually "That's because we have very specific native terms in our business which have no official English translation. If every programmer comes up with their own translation, we end up with multiple different English terms for the same native term and that's going to be confusing. I know, I don't like it either." That's not to say having international teams and expressing everything in English doesn't make communication harder. It does. I work in such a coding team. All our code is in English, but 80%+ of our worktime is not coding but discussing what and how to code it. Whenever the subject matters get complicated to explain, our team lead will switch to our native language and say "sorry [international colleagues], we'll translate later". We all speak English fluently, but that's often not good enough.
Nintendo America subcontracts a lot of work for its games. This allows easy hire-fire. It also makes their headcount low, which looks good to investors (... for some reason)
I haven't been able to find any law that requires companies to have HR departments. Which law exactly is that? I don't think the language barrier is that much of an issue. I'd imagine most of people code in English anyway.

Ehh, if you'd have known the "lore" about Paper Mario TTYD and its original Japanese version over the years concerning the character of Vivian (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to since I can't think of anything else), then that wasn't really something that out of left field. The "shenanigans" are at least more accurate to what the original Japanese said than what the original English localization on the Gamecube had. Those shenanigans may have been a shock to many casuals but plenty of more die-hard fans have been aware of it for years now. Not to mention it's not even new for Mario since Birdo also has existed since the 80s.
@@TheBoltMaster456 Uh, because no, it's not? That's the first I've ever heard that, and that just can't be true because the whole thing comes directly from the original manual for Doki Doki Panic, except there the character went by "Catherine" instead, but was still described to be "a guy who thinks he is a girl" similar to the U.S. Mario 2 manual. The only error I can think of is Birdo being named "Ostro" instead.
It's doesn't have as much to do with the DEI bloat as much as it is about the differences in the work culture. The bloat definitely takes it's toll, but it's the work culture that is the biggest difference. I guarantee you that a single Japanese worker in a Japanese company is a productive as a couple of western workers in a western company. It's a combination of different factors: Japanese people in general work harder and are more devoted to their job because that's just how it is over there from the cultural perspective, it's expected of them. They don't have weird things like "mental health days", they don't go play table tennis every two hours, they don't spend an hour eating their lunch, they just come to work, to their job as best as they can, and leave with very minimal downtime (basically like most low paying jobs work in the west). I've worked for a while in the western IT company and the amount of time people spend not really doing anything is astonishing.
Nintendo still makes good games that caters to its audience. Yes they're guilty of their shady moves but you can't fault them in making games for the hardcore fans. Something Ubisoft, Black Rock, Sweet Baby Inc and any other woke companies will never understand.
Also when you have many migrants as workers then need many supervisors too to walk them through what they should done and how ! That's in every industry 😉😉
They also keep their jobs too, lol. While I’m sure part of it could be English sites not keeping tabs or knowing too deeply, you don’t really hear about layoffs at Nintendo. Quitting is probably harder to track, but even bigwigs don’t really quit before they can retire. It’s happened once or twice, but extremely rare. Heck, you’ll be lucky to stay (willingly) at any job for over 5 years in the West unless you make it to management. Everyone else will get laid off in that time or have to quit just to get a promotion because companies don’t care about investing/keeping employees.
As many have said multiple times, this is all just the logical end result of civil rights law forcing companies to hire certain people and give certain people preferential treatment. Else, you get hit with massive lawsuits.
Woah woah woah... While I agree with most, the last point felt a little bit just to fill your standard video length. Because they only barrier of entry left in these companies is that you are able to speak the company language fluently. Nobody codes in English or french... Code is standardized. Yes, people might occasionally speak in their local language in a studio, but when they are talking about work with international teams, they speak the company language.🤡
8:04 As someone who studied computer science this has confused me for a solid minute. I've NEVER seen a popular language that wasn't using just english.
Ubisoft’s average games are also more visually realistic and are open-world games, whereas Nintendo’s generally the opposite. So Ubisoft is going to need more people to make any given game as well. Which is another issue, going for the most costly type of games. I think a more fair comparison would be Ubisoft to FromSoft (before Elden Ring), as they target a similar style of game (not open-world but big) consistently and is seen as profitable. Just to see if Ubisoft’s numbers are poor or standard. Although Ubisoft is also a publisher whereas FromSoft just makes their own games, so it’s not perfect.
I cannot comprehend how a game developer needs 20,000 employees. As I've said before, the more trash degrees women get the more stupid positions in corporations need to be made to justify their existence. It started with HR departments and those have leveled up to DEI departments. Now that degree in African Feminist Basket Weaving will have some use, since you need one of those in your DEI department in order to make your game for the "modern audience".
I'm perfectly fine with ubisoft falling. They need to triple down on woke DEI and go under. I think they are beyond salvage. Activision and EA still have their greed to push them forward, Blizzard is already dead.
For now. Crossing fingers that Nintendo wont also get consumed. Its bad reputation going around about DEI inflitrating japans big companys and spreading.
Ironically, androgynous people and characters (especially fictional characters) can be very attractive, but the androgyny in woke games is always meant to make the characters look ugly!
I have some insight into what goes on at ubisoft... i dont think dei is such a bad problem... the company has been very poorly run for a long time... not very attractive for top talent... lots of local corruption wasting company money on bs... too many people on the business side looking at spreadsheets with very little competence... its a big company and the rot is deep and goes back basically to 2008

Keep in mind that Nintendo's CEO only takes a salary of $2.5 million, far less than that of any western companies. The (relatively) modest salary is a much healthier way to run a corporation like this, since your employees are being much better compensated.
The CEOs pay rate makes no difference to other employee salaries. It’s an extra 10k for upper management. Worry about the first 100k, not the last 5.

Nintendo would be a great company, if it wouldn't take us so far back to another extreme where your youtube channel would be in danger of getting copyright struck into oblivion for showing cutscenes of their games.
this is what happens when you put NEIGHBORS in your games
I know, I don't like it either."
That's not to say having international teams and expressing everything in English doesn't make communication harder.
The whole gaming industry will be coming out of BRICS in the next few years.

As many have said multiple times, this is all just the logical end result of civil rights law forcing companies to hire certain people and give certain people preferential treatment. Else, you get hit with massive lawsuits.
Woah woah woah... While I agree with most, the last point felt a little bit just to fill your standard video length. Because they only barrier of entry left in these companies is that you are able to speak the company language fluently.

Because they don't care about DEI, they can focus on finding the best people they can for the job.
If nintendo keeps up its indie support they are good in my books
lol, I didn't even realize, but wait, is this the guy who was involved in those bloodsports?
Can ya do a video on Nintendo filing a Lawsuit towards Palworld's creator please?
Closer to 8k for Nintendo - but close enough
I cannot comprehend how a game developer needs 20,000 employees.
As I've said before, the more trash degrees women get the more stupid positions in corporations need to be made to justify their existence. It started with HR departments and those have leveled up to DEI departments. Now that degree in African Feminist Basket Weaving will have some use, since you need one of those in your DEI department in order to make your game for the "modern audience".
Ubisoft run on taxpayer money. And more hiring = more taxpayer money.
In America even our corporations are too fat
I'm perfectly fine with ubisoft falling.
They need to triple down on woke DEI and go under.
I think they are beyond salvage.
Activision and EA still have their greed to push them forward, Blizzard is already dead.
Legislation and nepotism. Whether through race or gender.
Where can i buy this "Nitendo"?😅
Not only do they have to be bilingual but they have to be good coders too
To be fair, Nintendo doesn't make the games. They're the publisher.
Even with strict copyright stance Nintendo still a better company than Ubisoft currently is now.
For now. Crossing fingers that Nintendo wont also get consumed. Its bad reputation going around about DEI inflitrating japans big companys and spreading.
Nintendo is outright the biggest company in Japan. Ubi isnt in the top 100 in france (where their hq is)
I think by Scam Francisco you mean What’s Left of Scam Francisco.
There is no such thing as "coding in English and coding in French". All coding is done universally in the same language.
dunno if anyone mentioned this yet but you misspelled Nintendo in the video's title; someones gotta say it
I’ll be honest after finding out how little his company did for their game I stopped listening to grummz
