Could the decrease in reverse hits be due to the rest of the league learning that it isn't a good idea to hit him in the first place?

Seider had a career high in goals and was the first D-man to put together a season with 200+ hits and 200+ blocked shots in years while playing the toughest minutes in the NHL . . . NOT WORRIED!

This! Plus Mo had been taken off of PP1 in place of Ghost and barely had any O zone starts. Man was in the hospital earlier in the day for illness in one of the last games of the season and still came out to play. Not worried. Just fix his deployment and get him help

The fact that Seider played almost exclusively against opposing teams best players speaks far more to our personnel than it does his ability and any possible regression. Improve our D corps, and everything will be amazing.

Matt Roy is the solution. From Canton, MI, and is a great shutdown right d. Having Walman-Seider then Chiarot/Edvinsson- Roy would give us 2 pairs that can take tough matchups, allowing Seider to get some easier assignments

Anyone who can rub at least 2 brain cells together should not be concerned about Seider. For toughest competition I didn’t see Makar on that list, fox, Hughes, josi, Bouchard, etc. This guy is 23 and still learning while being asked to do literally EVERYTHING for this team. Obviously he was going to make mistakes he’s practically being set up to fail with the defensive help around him. Lock him up 8 years no less. LGRW!

Seider has had the hardest deployment regarding opposition in opponents and defensive zone faceoffs. He carried this defense with Walman and Chiarot. Anyone who is worried about his play is not actually watching him.

I watched seider for like 50 games this year. I saw the give away and mistakes. But not once did I feel like he was hurting the team. It isn’t just his competition. It’s his help. Walman did good this year but he’s a second line def in reality. Let’s erase all of that for sec. He’s 23 against the best. On a team who lacks def. And goaltending has been an issue at times. Line changes all the tome by lalonde. Plays every game. Scores points. Hits and blocks shots. Yzerman could give him 8-9 aav for 8 years and I wouldn’t sweat at all

If the Wings want to trade him, there are plenty of other teams that would take him in a heartbeat. Chill. As an Avs fan that watched MacKinnons arc, just be patient. Sometimes these guys need a few years to settle in the star role.

  • @jennifer714714
    @jennifer714714 12 дней назад +2

Seider got far less PP last season. Ghost kinda took the main QB position on the PP. So the points are naturally little harder to come by without the help of PP minutes. I think he's fine but he does need to fine tune when to hit and not to hit, some of his plays where he puts himself out of position to make a hit did cost us.

I think this guy is still a really young kid, he carries himself and talks so mature that I think we all forget his age. It typically takes d men longer to find their game in the NHL. I feel like this coaching staff started asking him to play a different style of game these last 2 years, i feel like he’s more an offensive guy and is trying to switch and be more defensively responsible. Is he at the top of his defensive game….no but he WILL continue to get better and we’ll all look back at this and wonder why we even questioned his development. Next year if we can be better defensively as a team I believe we will see his offensive numbers increase

Seider had some defensive lapses for sure, but he was a shot blocking machine as well. I do think he needs to get better at when and when not to shoot the puck. He passes up great opportunities with traffic in front of the net time and time again. Overall, he is a good young defender with a great potential.

Great stat on Mo. Let the numbers speak. I see his+/- seems to have improved so he is on the ice for more goals. He is on the ice more against the best players is the world than anyone else in the league. 19 needs to focus on getting additions on D and change the “process” so Mo gets preferable matchups (especially at little Caesar’s where D gets the final change)

There were a lot of goals that were only scored because of Mo falling down, it generally happened at the end of power plays where forwards gave up bad turnovers and he was put in a bad position and scrambled to get out of it and happened to fall, not entirely his fault but something you hope he works out

first player with 200 hits and 200 shot blocks in 16 years put good points wasnt a hinder plays the hardest minutes and since after Calder year hes bin played against heavy and hard, Yzerman and the Wings need to pay this kid everything he wants and deserves! not everyone needs to be a giant point getter hes gonna be the best shut down d man in the league if he not already, he will win many Norris' by being a force in shutting down the big stars like no one els hes also only 23 lol let him grow you have an elite d man whos like a good mix of Lindstrom and Kronwall

  • @thenickfoxx
    @thenickfoxx 12 дней назад +1

The reverse hits dont happen anymire because teams know who tf he is and they barely attempt to hit him anymore unless its a board battle kind of thing. He still lays the boom though.
Yes, he needs to work on his d zone turn overs. I will agree with that. But Blashdril is kind of dimwitted in saying "like 50" goals were on him. Like another reply said, he was all upset at Yzerman for trading Vrana lol, not like Yzerman knows what he's doing or anything.
Im sure Mo knows he needs to work on the turn overs, but he didnt cost us the playoffs "all on his own" like someone quoted lol. He's a 23 year old kid going up against the best of the best and he was able to neutralize his match ups as much as an elite dman would. He hasnt even hit his prime yet, i know he'll kick it into another gear as the next few years come.

You have to remember who Seider played with in his rookie season. He was one of the top 3 players + PP1 at the time.
The team only got better after that, which doesn't mean Seider got worse.
But when you suddenly have 10-12 players scoring and you're only playing PP2, the numbers go down a bit too.
Also, what position does Seider play? D! That's the problem with the NHL these days... a good defensive player doesn't get credit until he scores.
Absolutely no one can tell me Makar is better defensively... offensively of course, no question.
    But that's not Seider's game.
40+ points, 200+ hits, 200+ blocks sounds like a good two way Dman to me though
Correct about the turnovers. There are a few more, but as the video says, Seider plays against the top lines, ALWAYS.
On the subject of hits, Seider himself explained that he needs to learn better when to hit and when not to hit.
Topic of reverse hits - how many players thought to themselves in his rookie season - Hey young blood, welcome to the NHL -
Again, opponents are learning that maybe they shouldn't do it anymore.
Also, Lalonde said in an interview last year that they asked Seider to play less risky, which I personally hate.
Let him play his game & don't force a style of play on him....
One thing I've always hated this year though, have you ever noticed how many 2 vs 3 situations Detroit has had against them because Lalonde's style of play sends 2 offensive players to push right away ?
Personally, I see Lalonde as the culprit as to why Seider's game in general doesn't look like it did in his rookie season.
Think Steve Y gives Seider 8 years for 8.53M though.

Troublesome in that the Wings don't have good enough defensemen (besides Seider).
Wrong take at the end, Seider will be matched up against the top players...remember, he's only 23, and has done more than a passable job on the top pairing, better than any other Red Wing defenseman this year (and last year). Edvinsson has a loooong way to go.
Did Seider give up pucks (have turnovers), yes, but it may help if he had a better defensive partner as well. Walman is not a top pairing defenseman (2nd pairing on the better teams in NHL). Also, there are some forwards on the Wings that aren't great defensively.
Chariot is a 3rd pairing and Petry is a 7th or 8th defenseman. The Red Wings were again lucky, I think to be close to a playoff spot, and it was thanks to having some good forwards and getting some good goaltending at times....which collapsed on them (of course their defensemen helped at times, but more offensively!)

    • @ericscottstevens

Albert Johansson probably is not going to pan out. Not much gaudy potential from Tuomisto and Wallinder either.
ASP is a ray of hope but is offensive minded and most likely 2 years out.
Andrew Gibson is probably the closest to gaining some new exposure in the system as a physical type defender. Brady Cleveland is still a mystery pick, or at least bewildering to many fans.
I would not rule out SY drafting another defender for their #1 pick.

Craziness, let's just say hypothetically, he had one bad mistake every other game (so say 42), yet had 5-6 great plays every game against top talent on the opposition. This makes him bad somehow. You've got to be kidding me. Most of the people commenting on this obviously never played defense in hockey or have over inflated expectations from a 23 year old who will only get better when you add a better defensive core to the other lines.
