So if that tall post (cassette) is little more than 2m long I'd need a bit more than 4m of head room to be able to slide it into the brackets? Do I have that correct? I have a roof over and around 3.15m head room.

Too floppy in wind or even a breeze. Sad, it is a good idea but I feel it needs support in the middle or it sags when extended to full length.

Have you tried and tested one thinking of getting one for the terrace.

@@jimny786 Yes...As soon as it's extended, the middle sags slightly in any breeze. The overall look is not good.

How do you fix them on wooden decks?

You might need to fix a square piece of thick steel first to the deck and then fix the anchoring post to that and the deck and use nut and bolts.

Remove top decking put 4x4 under decking then fix from top into it
