Good project, in high school in the mid 60's I had a 3 element beam about the same height. Did not have any rotors but did build a wooden flip-flop with a rope to pull it back vertical. Worked many countries on the old 22 a and 22b channels that were used by oil companies at drilling sights. Skip was thick every day so talking across town was hard on just 4 watts. You should have fun watching how skip twists between h and v.!
I did this with a three element beam back in the 70s. Worked like a charm. I lived way out in the boonies and mounted it on a 50’ tower along with 10’ of mast pipe on top.
Having had a Jo Gunn Smokin 2...the benefit of having both V and H are lost when you are the Mower Junkie and you have 20 people coming back to you every time you key up! Keep up the good work.
I've been doing this since 1978 lol. You should have seen my stacked 4 element cushcraft with both antennas with their own flip flop rotor and stacked on a 20 ft stacking boom. All on top of a 40 ft tower being turned by an old wilson rotor and rotor box. It worked extremely well but my neighbors were nervous about it so I took it all down and used just 1 cushcraft 4 element. I love using a yagi on a flip flop rotor.
Very cool. Horizontal or vertical will come in handy with locals. If your signal reflects off the ionosphere (skips) your polarity will be hit & miss. Skip signals can "tumble" polarity. Fun to play with & see which polarity works best for skip at the moment. I have a similar setup with 4 qty Cushcraft 11 element yagis for 2 meter moon bounce. I had some fun today on 20 meters. Long path over the south pole into India (from Utah). The guy in India was talking on a home made rig transmitting only 40 watts and a piece of wire. 73 de AF7FP
I like what you are doing here, my friend. I ran a 4 element like this for several years about 25 years ago. After a while you may decide you need a way to automatically stop the antenna at vertical and flat to take out the guesswork (and not having to go look at the antenna to see where it is)...let me know if you come to this conclusion and I'll hook you up with how it's done. Keep up the good work!!!!
I noticed the corner guard on the red Jeep's bumper is starting to get grey. If you get close to it with a heat gun, it'll return the color back to black. I did it on mine with an underpowered heat gun (about 600w). A 1500w should do the trick in 1/10th the time it took me. End result will vary depending on how you move the heat around. Try it as if you're painting the car.

We were doing the dual rotor setup in the 1980's with maco m104 beam antennas. , back in the day you could get the alliance u-100 rotors for a dime a dozen, their hard to come by now.
Here's a little trivia...signals sent vertically polarized are rotated to horizontal when refracted off the ionosphere and vice versa. Cross polarized antennas like the Moonraker were popular 50 years ago because you could flip a switch to see which way worked better. If the ionosphere ever returns with multiple hop DX then having the ability to change polarity will be great.
@Jeremy Nottingham , I'm not hearing it here near Pittsburgh. I use wwv as an indicator and never hear it above 15 MHz and even that signal rarely gets above the noise for very long. In the past once the solar flux got above 80 or so the bands would open up, but not now. Even on 40 yesterday the nets were struggling with poor propagation and the solar flux was near 90.
